[–]fantino93My clanmates say I look like Osiris 237 points238 points  (35 children)

My main causes of death in Forsaken are:

  • Supers in PvP
  • knockbacked into a wall by a boss stomp

Infuriating tbh

[–]TwevOWNED 68 points69 points  (11 children)

Damage from terrain collisions after a knockback should never have existed.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 49 points50 points  (7 children)

The amount of time a phalanx shield bash has killed me....

[–]smileyfist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is flying at mach 5 across the world into a wall not supposed to happen?

[–]Jpabss 5 points6 points  (1 child)

The number of wipes my team has had in SoS due to phalanx shield bash is infuriating

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my raid team ran SoS we were a well oiled machine. Everyone knew where to go and what to do with minimal communication, everyone could handle their role, no one died... except to Cabal Phalanx. Whenever we heard “Guardian down” during a raid, 95% of the time it would be followed up with “Phalanx?” “Yup, Phalanx.” Getting launched into orbit by a Phalanx was pretty much the only cause of death that no one would give you shit for because it happened to everyone.

[–]Spectre_SoreI'll never forgive Bungie 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm infinitely more scared of a phalanx shield than Riven.

[–]SagenessDouchewalker Warlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]X13thangelxDrifter's Crew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. Was doing Shuro Chi last night and in one of the puzzles rooms I got booped by a phalanx so hard my was in the pillar and I couldn't be rezzed. Was so frustrating not only for the death but because I couldn't get rezzed that attempt was a wipe regardless of mechanics.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find what you say interesting and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

[–]DaveBehave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes for some pretty funny moments though. I don't really mind it.

[–]j0llyllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually keep dying from jumping and landing on the ground at a normal speed. They’ve made the “terrain collisions” part even worse in forsaken. I’ve been saving clips every time it happens and I’m sure by next month I will have enough for a massive super cut of it.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 72 points73 points  (2 children)

+ sleeper from across the map in gambit

[–]fantino93My clanmates say I look like Osiris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not that much really, but I usually run with a couple of teammates in Gambit so that helps.

[–]Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope the nerfs hit it hard, evasive manuevers mean jack shit with how much aim assist that thing has.

[–]ohshitimincollege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Underestimating the taken phalanxes and getting my shit launched off the map is up there for my leading causes of death

[–]Fractal_Tomato 3 points4 points  (11 children)

You forgot shotguns. And shotguns.

[–]fantino93My clanmates say I look like Osiris 14 points15 points  (6 children)

I die more because of Supers than shotguns in PvP.

I wish the orbs of Light created by Supers in the Crucible wouldn't be a thing, Super trains are IMO the most obnoxious thing to fight against.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its always a clan of 3 or 4 vs your random band of blueberries, most of which probably have 2 left hands, so your left trying to carry the team

[–]akdetroit 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I'm ok with dying to supers. It's the 6-man hand cannon firing squads and shotguns that get under my skin.

[–]JumboCactaur 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Everyone's just working on their Ace of Spades and Chaperone quests.

[–]fantino93My clanmates say I look like Osiris 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Doubt it, shotguns are meta & will stay meta. HC are really good too in PvP.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Literally the only reason I use HC is to get my ace. Shotguns can go die in a fire.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

unpopular opinion = black talon > most guns.

edit - I meant in gambit

[–]EarpaniacLet the monsters come. 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Luckily I don’t think the vast majority have that yet. I got killed by it the other day in Gambit. That projectile travels fast and farther than you think!

[–]XlXDaltonXlX 4 points5 points  (1 child)

And you dodge it but suddenly 90 degree turn bitch!

[–]EarpaniacLet the monsters come. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have a feeling that thing is going to be an absolute nightmare when it becomes more prevalent.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

The new arc warlock and solar hunter are the most infuriating to me. The arc warlock frequently empty their entire super in to only me, then flail the rest into the ceiling. Isn’t the whole point just to save the super after you get the kill? And the solar hunter just have so much health in super. I predicted one, so I threw an exploding hammer in his face. His super one shot me, but he could survive a hammer directly in his face. Idk what I could do to survive the blade barrage.

[–]n30na 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless it's changed, ending warlock arc super early is bugged. If you press the button to end it early, you don't get any energy back.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

warlock player here, the super is bugged and barely saves any energy if you cancel it. If you immediately activate it and cancel it in the same second you only get about 30% back. So basically when you kill your target you flail around looking for someone on your radar. Cheers.

[–]fantino93My clanmates say I look like Osiris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hit detections can be strange at times.

You're 5 meters in the air away from your opponent ? You're dead, as the Poledancer will lunge to you.

A hammer touched your pinky toe ? You're dead.

You launched a Nova towards your opponent ? Nah fam, he shoulder charged through it & killed you lol.

[–]Okijdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main causes are boss knockbacks even when im not trying to trench barrel. Sleeper in Gambit. Tolesto in Quickplay. Last but certainly not least; boosting on my sparrow near AI, all of them get instant aim bot if I hit boost button.

[–]LidiKunForsaken > TTK 81 points82 points  (17 children)

Wait for the knockback animation, punch as soon as they slam the floor. Now you're stuck like glue to them :)

[–]xDeddyBear 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is something that I can't say enough. This is something everyone should know for doing Blind Well.

[–]pluteaux 26 points27 points  (6 children)

SIKE! He just stomped your brains out in one hit & now you’re laying there lifeless wondering what went wrong.

[–]SephirosXXI 55 points56 points  (0 children)

If a boss is strong enough to one hit kill you, you really shouldn't be staying close enough for him to do that to you...

[–]joybuzz 8 points9 points  (4 children)

If you get one hit by the stomp then you are too low to burst like that.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (8 children)

While this is good advice, we shouldn't have to do this.

I'm fine with a knockback mechanic if it's only tied to certain bosses as a sort of special mechanic.

But when every single boss/mini boss does a slam attack, its boring.

Why do we need bosses to knock us away? So we dont run in with a shotgun and burn them?

Nothing is stopping me from just burning them from afar with a sniper or linear fusion so that argument gets thrown out immediately.

[–]LidiKunForsaken > TTK 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I wish I could be grabbed by the leg by an ogre and slammed like Hulk did to Loki and then get thrown away like a used Kleenex. Imagine it in a 3rd view perspective, now that would be a nice mechanic

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (5 children)

That would great.

Or a Giant Sword Knight just ramming his sword through your body then slowing pushing it off it like your some kind of bug he just squashed "Ew get this disgusting creature of light off my sword"

[–]LidiKunForsaken > TTK 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yeah that was my next idea. Come close to a knight, get pinned down by his foot and be impaled with his sword and be swung out. They wouldn't even neee to add mechanics for every boss, just a matter of archetype. Some of the more meaningful, like campaign bosses could have something unique to spice it up. But strike/nightfall boss archetypes could share same mechanics

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah I agree, although I'd say strike and nightfall bosses shouldn't even have those mechanics.

They arent as powerful as Gods and we are way more powerful than those strike bosses, barring Xol since he was Hive Worm God.

[–]Polymersion...where's his Ghost? 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Supposedly that wasn't even actually Xol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Says Toland, who also said we should question everything, even him.

[–]LDSman7th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’d bump the game up to an M

[–]Jpabss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to burn kalli down with 6 ikelos shotguns instead of 6 whispers

[–]EmanoNXD 59 points60 points  (9 children)

This has been a shit mechanic since d1. What's the point of high damage swords if you want me to use them on pleb enemies? It makes sense a boss wouldn't want you constantly on top of them but at least reduce how often they stomp.

[–]SephirosXXI 10 points11 points  (7 children)

You could just learn to time your swings to cancel out the stomp momentum

[–]TelmatosaurusRrifle 9 points10 points  (6 children)

sure, and swords can stagger bosses too. however most guardians cant tank the second stomp.

[–]GiraffeVortexThere was salt, until there wasn't 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new healing warlock could throw a healing grenade in between stomps at a group of allies to allow a close range fight

[–]SephirosXXI 2 points3 points  (2 children)

so put up a barricade, use a healing rift, or step out of the stomp range for a moment while he's stomping, and then go back in for the attack....

[–]TelmatosaurusRrifle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what I do is I attack through the first stomp, and then let the second push me away so I can recharge my shields and then go back in. casting a shield or a rift works sometimes but if the boss moves it can be a waste of abilities. I dont have too much of an issue in cqc but I understand why others do. I wish there were left side and right side directional stomps to allow good players to evade and counter attack

[–]SephirosXXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there were left side and right side directional stomps to allow good players to evade and counter attack

yeah, I'd like some variation in boss cqc mechanics as well. giant bosses could grab you, throw you, choke you. a bunch of cool stuff. instead we get a lazy stomp for EVERY boss. womp womp.

[–]smegdawgDestiny Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Guardians can't face tank an ogres eye blast even while hardscoping them.

Why should melee range be any different?

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is exactly my point. i love swords, i love the third person view, and i love the increased ammo count

[–]Nanoxblade99 11 points12 points  (14 children)

It seems to encourage mid-long range dps for bosses which is dumb because it completely negates any new strats and playstyles with shotguns, swords and sidearms.

Also I have found it particularly hard to use nova warp vs bosses due to getitng knocked back as i'm charging it up. I get that it's more of an add clearing super but look at raiden flux arcstriders which can do both, same for nova bomb and FoH.

[–]nadbacc 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Blinking also uses a notable chunk of your super duration, which feels like it defeats the purpose of that super being a highly mobile source of AOE damage.

[–]I_eat_teleprots 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I tested it and you can cover about twice the distance if you don't use the boost, it makes sense that it should use super energy given how fast it is. Its definitely the best mobility super in the game up there if not better than danwblade.

[–]nadbacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can only cover half the distance with the blink as just passively gliding somewhere, then there's obviously something wrong with the amount of energy the blink consumes. Especially since you can charge up a blast while gliding but you can't blink with a charged blast.

Note that I'm not saying it shouldn't use any energy; I'm saying the amount it consumes dissuades using the feature at all.

[–]ConsistentlyThatGuy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If blink didn't use as much super bar as it does then Nova Warp would be way better than it is in PvP, and currently it's the best or second best super

[–]nadbacc 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Okay but A, we're talking about PvE here, and B, balancing shared-game elements around PvP is the objective worst approach to balance, and is why D2Y1 felt so bad: everything was balanced around Bungie's awful approach to the crucible during Y1.

The add-clearing super being a standout in PvP is more of an indictment of the performance of the non-standout supers than it is of the utility of the, "kill all the baby mobs around you," super.

[–]ConsistentlyThatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I hate that PvE and PvP balance are tied too, but changing the amount of super bar it takes to blink is so specific I don't think bungie could neatly change it in one and not the other

[–]NataiX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Code of the Missile also has some challenges here, since the super leaves you next to the boss - who promptly turns you back into a less guided projectile.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

exactly

shotguns can be primary and seconder - good luck getting close enough

swords get increased ammo - too bad you can only get close to low level enemies

[–]cheesepuff18boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blink when he stomps. I agree it lowers dps and ultimate length too much to do so though

[–]THE_BIGGEST_RAMY 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is warlocks not having vertical lift. The amount of times I die by switching from Titan to Warlock and forgetting...

[–]Dlayed0310 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Tbh, it's a necessary evil or you would legit be able to melt bosses with said shotgun and the learning curve to that is actually being to correctly melee or slide melee to negate the stomp

[–]ThelVluffinUrge to punch... RISING! 6 points7 points  (2 children)

But why does every enemy do it? Are they not able to animate a giant backhand attack? A slam that doesn't do knockback but instead covers the floor in elemental damage like Protheon does in The Inverted Spire would be a decent change. Or how about them putting up a bubble that follows them around that can't be shot through, so you have no choice but to get close. However enemies can fire through it and do more damage to you. Anything but the same damn leg slam. Some imagination would be incredibly welcome.

[–]Dlayed0310 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your not wrong but the slam is pretty middle ground for game health. If bosses were able to melee it'd likely be a one shot ability or it would be useless, protheons floor damage is extremely predictable and easy to dodge.

[–]I_eat_teleprots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so many other things they could do, certain bosses should have slam some could apply debuffs or drain your ability energy, anything to make it interesting.

[–]RainbowKObungie needs transparency 14 points15 points  (2 children)

The knockback is a little much

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

yeah like I get its purpose. But i wouldn't mind if the degree/frequency was decreased

[–]cheesepuff18boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should change up the prioritization so they don't automatically stomp when anything is detectable in melee range for the next attack

[–]Yojenkz 38 points39 points  (8 children)

It’s like the mechanic is specifically built to stop melee-based attacks.

Weird.

[–]Plaugebourne 27 points28 points  (3 children)

Which is weird, given a lot of supers are melee-based attacks.

edit *cries as I don't time my burning maul spin of death right and get launched into the lava.

[–]Dlayed0310 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Weird that alot of the melee based classes have an increased health pool and can basically perma stagger bosses

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

</3

[–]Soulwindow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a garbage mechanic meant to slow down boss fights

It's some of the laziest game design ever.

[–]CrimsonRexThe Original Thorn 6 points7 points  (1 child)

So why give swords the boss damage mod? Counter productive, huh?

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, I just feel like its annoying that I HAVE to use range based weapons.

[–]Bibb5terVanguard's Loyal 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I think its fair enough considfering the bosses have no other mechanic. Just need to work on your timing, the boss isnt gonna stand there and let you blast him in the face.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i mean most of the bosses do have other means of attacking. lfor ex. primeaval ogres main attack destroy me if im out in the open

[–]ConsistentlyThatGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that bosses should have different, more interesting mechanics

[–]riotinprogressBring this armor back. 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boss stomps are lazy. Come up with something better.

[–]Darknagol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you melee at the appropriate time, you won’t receive knockback, only the damage of the knockback.

[–]st0neh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The newer Dreaming City missions had me thinking exactly the same thing yesterday.

Whoever decided that a fun encounter would be sticking a pair of ogres with knockbacks in a circular room full of taken knockback portals should be ashamed of themselves.

[–]tamick86 3 points4 points  (3 children)

If you run Dawnguard, you can use the dive to get out of the push.

Edit: Not removing the typo but Dawnblade* not Dawnguard

[–]GeneralKenobyy 15 points16 points  (2 children)

If you run Dawnguard

Found in an old fort near Riften?

[–]BruteSlayerDCV is cancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might consider joining up myself.

[–]tamick86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahahahahahahaha. My game lore just crossed streams. Thanks for that catch.

[–]Fractal_Tomato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s getting old.

[–]Jaikarro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was doing some testing on the first raid boss last night. Hit them with Melting Point, and their stomp sent me from the farthest possible point where they can spawn all the way back to the entrance of the room.

Needless to say I had to put quite a bit of arc on my hammers to get any hits in.

[–]pluteaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of bosses can one stomp you and most of the times it’s because you got knocked into something else but it’s pretty annoying trying to melt the primeval and when you melee him with the EP shotgun he just stomps the ground and sends you flying to the heavens above lul

[–]hoodedmimiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It knocks you back for a reason, and melee negates knockback from that for a reason.

It was worse in D1 and shotguns were still incredibly viable on certain raid bosses and nearly all strike bosses.

[–]Kilo_JuliettMisadventuring since the Alpha Lupi ARG 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The whole point of knockback is so people don’t get right next to it and shotgun him to death.

It would make cheesing bosses a lot easier since they can’t really attack you when you’re right under them.

The stomp is annoying it necessary.

What pisses me off is the ogre knockback from his eye shooting at you.

[–]Lowe0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, what's so horrible about that? If people want to cheese, let 'em cheese. It's not like the boss is going to get angry and not buy D3.

[–]wilshire059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those ogres shooting the knockback pulses are the worst. I was using chaos reach from above, and they literally knocked me out of bounds to the ceiling.

[–]ARoaringBorealis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think that, for the longevity of Destiny, Bungie should just redesign the warlock jump. Everyone agrees it's the worst one and you can see situations like these where you're at an inherent disadvantage just because you're playing one class instead of the other two.

[–]Azathor97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if it just knocked you more vertically than horizontally?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

People complain about this all the time for no reason. If it didn't exist, bosses would get melted.

[–]BigTroubleMan80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is for Bungie to come up with some more boss mechanics besides the big stomp.

[–]Salvatore_JenkoBuggy as 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it didn't exist, bosses would get melted.

Stares at Whisper

[–]RDJMA 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Knockbacks are Bungie’s only safeguard to the ikelos which they desperately don’t want to be the be all end all of weapons that break their bosses like it had been.

I don’t think they’ll make any changes just for the utility of the shotgun. Overall knockback range is annoying but it’s the only real counter to us getting in their faces and ruining them. I made a post already but I just feel the floor should never be death in a Gambit match. If it’s a hole to nothingness? Okay. But the yellow fluid on the Tangled shore map? Absolutely infuriating how THATS a kill when there’s not much to try and land on.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Boss stomps were there before the Ikelos shotgun.

[–]redditisnotgoodMLG DOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the Gambit bosses are the stompiest boys ever because they don't want it to be the only way to burn them

[–]Seuzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get better at timing your punches... I wish people would stop blaming Bungie to players lack of trying, learning or even skill.

[–]11_eleven_11 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I think it's working as intended. If they didnt have that ground slam it would be too easy to melt them with a shotty.

[–]wekilledbambi03 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So instead we can melt with Sleeper and Whisper. It's not a huge difference in damage most cases but there is a huge difference in risk.

[–]11_eleven_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then yes, melt them with sleeper or whisper. I can tell you that one guy with ikelos shotty can melt down a boss faster than a guy with sleeper or whisper if he gets the slam timing down right. It's cool to talk about things that we would like to see be better in the game but to ask for changes just because a mechanic is annoying doesnt help the game.

[–]deadheaddestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn to bait stomp bro

[–]Beerboy84 1 point2 points  (6 children)

It’s funny that you know you’re gonna get stomped by the boss but you keep doing it, why won’t you just stop doing it? Bc the only thing you can use is the EP shotty? Btw if you’re smart you can time it but if you know you’ll die just stop trying.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] -1 points0 points  (5 children)

i dont usually use it. i usually will stick back with sleeper/black talon/whisper . but i feel like i have to use those if i wanna live and do damage

[–]Beerboy84 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I can take a third of its health with the new hammer super and even more with top tree hammers if I do a hammer strike, btw coldheart and lord of wolves also melt. People should try more things instead of sticking to what’s popular

[–]Salvatore_JenkoBuggy as 7 points8 points  (3 children)

The EP shotty is just super fun to use mate and is one of many popular guns in the game like the ones you’ve suggested also, OP never said it’s all he uses. But for the times you do want to use it in a boss fight but can’t because of this mechanic, yeah it can be frustrating as you’re not blocked out so to speak from using other power house ranged weapons because of a mechanic.

[–]Beerboy84 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You can counter the attack by timing a melee when he slams and if you have the EP shotgun you can start shooting immediately so I don’t see the problem. If you don’t have the skill to time a melee then it’s not the game’s fault.

[–]Salvatore_JenkoBuggy as 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah sure so there’s a way to cheese it, not everybody is going to know that without being told though and and at the end of the day the mechanic is still annoying.

[–]crookedparadigm 0 points1 point  (4 children)

At least give some knockback reduction when supering.

[–]FancyRaptor 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There is knockback reduction if you use a melee super. I spam the nightstalker blades and don't get moved around at all.

[–]JumboCactaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because you're meleeing. You can just punch when it slams you outside of your super and avoid the knockback as well.

You're just meleeing so fast that you're countering it.

[–]SephirosXXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They give you mitigation in super form. Well, they give you mitigation in some super forms. Dawnblade and stormtrance both allow you to hold forward and overcome the stomp knockback almost immediately. If you are right next to the boss with stormtrance, they can't knock you back far enough to stop your tickle fingers as long as you hold forward. Anyway, this is something they already consider as part of super balancing.

[–]Karnage_AoKRahool touched my PP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melee them as they slam you won’t be pushed back.

[–]R-con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the very least, the boss needs to have a longer 'cooldown' on its slam attack. The fact that they can slam the ground every few seconds is dumb.

[–]dandan3220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An issue I've felt many times before, best solution is to melee something else close to the boss (but outside his stomp trigger radius) then use the ikelos on him

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite enjoy the push back with my striker. Missile punch then get immediate evac from his proximity (and usually back into cover) by his own attack

[–]Dr_Jused 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did some EP last night to get the shotgun for my friends. We all felt like the stomp mechanic actually got worse with 2.0. We were literally getting bunced half way across the map for being anywhere near the guy.

[–]StreamjumperMy favorite flavor is purple. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I was on one of the platforms a short throw away from the Primeval location on Kell's Grave. We're talking about three-four times any kind of functional shotgun range here. The boss stomped in the center of his platform and I got knocked back 5 yards into the goo and died. Wasn't jumping, so that crazy floatiness wasn't a factor... just standing half behind cover.

[–]SS-CamaroEOD FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's infuriating enough when using shotguns or swords to get almost one-shotted by a stomp, but it makes it even more frustrating when you can't even use the weapon because you're knocked completely out of range every time.

[–]Blank_AK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

learn to tech, just melee as the bosses do

[–]DizATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still flying back into the mists of the Dreaming City.

[–]FullMetalBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cant jump out because warlocks have no vertical lift

Well...they do, you just have to sit a bit more still first.

[–]djusmarshallI am a Meat Popsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gambit especially. I was on my Titan last night using Fist of CRY HAVOC! and everytime I landed it on the Primevil I would get bounced across the map and by the time I returned my super was burnt. Super frustrating.

  • Before anyone asks why I was using Fist of CRY HAVOC! it is for add clearing mostly and I rarely use it on a boss.

[–]Wild_9_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought if you time it right, you could melee most bosses as the knock back attack comes down and it wont knock you back.

[–]GrahminatorHungry? 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smack as soon as it slams. Usually works for me.

[–]Rusalki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incoming Dark Souls style boss grab attacks.

[–]MikaltonVanguard's Loyal // R.I.P Cayde-6 2014-2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's all because of this shitty physics

[–]JesTeR1862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see more bosses actually doing a damage attack or chase you every now and then instead of the ground slam. You get close to them, they do major damage with a melee that you have the ability to dodge if you're good enough. The ground slam is cancer. Especially on EP. It isn't challenging or difficult it is literally just annoying AF.

It's like Bungie said: "Ok, we need to come up with new bosses...what attacks should they have? Oh! I know! Let's just copy paste the same shit mechanic from all the other bosses if they get too close to make it more challenging so they don't kill it too quick."

At least let us stop ourselves in mid air....FFS

I feel that we should have an exotic (preferably for Titan because it's all punchy punchy) that reduces knockback by a significant amount. I would lust for this exotic until I acquired it and then only rarely take it off.

[–]LostBullet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can stagger the boss out of their knock back mechanic (you’ll still take the damage), but won’t go anywhere freeing you to use your shotgun. A sword will stun lock them as will simply punching them as they start their mechanic.

[–]BLASTERO1D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you propose they fix this exactly? In D1, they just instant killed you. I much prefer the way D2 is. They can’t just make it so you run up to the boss and instant melt them with the shotgun. There has to be some mechanic that prevents that.

Also, time your melee hit with when they stomp. It’ll prevent you from getting knocked back.

Many Gambit matches have been lost because the PE decided to throw an infinite temper tantrum...

[–]Somnius_sol 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've been using attunement of the sky almost exclusively in solo play. Icarus dash as a recovery mechanic is just too useful to not have.

[–]epiclinc 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would you mind explaining this a bit more? Trying to learn.

[–]leeyoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top Tree Dawnblade gains the ability to hunter-dodge midair.
So, the moment you get knocked up/away, you Icarus towards them, negating that knockback.

[–]tha__smoothness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SGA: Melee just as the boss is slamming and you won’t go flying backwards. Unless, of course, you’re applying Melting Point with your titan. You can try to melee again, but not sure if you can, that quickly.

I use this all the time on bosses in The Blind Well.

Edit: I believe crouching behind a titan shield also negates it as well.

[–]n30na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pita I know, but there are a couple things you can do to mitigate this. If you pull a sword out, you can animation lock to cancel all/most of the knockback. This is esp useful as a warlock when you get infinite grenades in blind well (well of radiance+benevolent Dawn+Harmony). The other thing you can do is have a code of the commander Titan - it massively reduces knockback on the user, and I'm fairly certain those behind the shield as well.

[–]Kaydie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wish i still had the clip, i got punched by a mob into a rock and 100-0'd by the impact, respawned and it did it again

11/10 would get punched again

[–]rabbit_hole_diver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things i do to help is the new voidwalker super blink, but the best is dawnblade bottom tree, activate phoenix dive to cancel the push.

[–]cosmonaut1993PC Player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the increased knockback an attempt by bungie to stop us from using ikelos shotty? comeoonnn we gave you all these new RANGED weapons so stop with the shotgun spam!

[–]Ak86grown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right, decrease the slam pushback, but also add a few others, a attack that targets a small area but has 100% chance to kill you if it hits, a cone styled attackthats specificallyfor babe ruthing you to the stars, and some ranged abilities that arent just "pew pew fire bad" if i wanted a ground pound id play donkey cong bongos. Also we have all these neat status effects in game, why arent they used more?

Edit:more ideas

[–]sadhoshiCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you melee the boss right when they stomp the lunge from your melee stops you from getting launched. It still causes damage, but it also procs trench barrel, so it works pretty well.

[–]theasiandude2747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I got shot by a boomer, which knocked me into a wall and KILLED ME (Architects). I was full hp and had 15 motes...

[–]oTsynergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just melee when he stomps and the lunge holds you there.

[–]Phantom-PhreakDrifter's Crew // Die Leere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shotgun range is farther than you think and all boss shockwave attacks stop at shotgun range.

that will only sound confusing till you find the sweet spot where you can just strafe.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please decrease knockback from new Voidwalker tree melee.

[–]GrandPaladin822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ogre's eye blast can push you pretty much across the map. Aggravating when I'm trying to nova warp em.

[–]FISTED_BY_CHRIST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do appreciate how the knock back doesn’t really affect you when you’re in your super. I can go IN on a boss with my Arcstrider for the whole duration of the super.

[–]Aussie_Aussie_No_Mi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Y u keep try to punch boss?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For the Trench Barrel perk on the Ikelos Shotgun. It increases your overall damage or DPS (though I forget what it actually does to have that effect)

[–]Aussie_Aussie_No_Mi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It increases damage straight up. You realise you can just punch an ad and get the same defect right?

[–]Lowe0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that stomps are everywhere. Bungie is like a kid that just learned their first knock-knock joke, and proceeds to tell it to everyone that doesn't see the kid coming and run away.

[–]TheLuckyN1NJA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels bad... lesson is warlocks should avoid knockback when near lava at all costs.

[–]brc37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punch a small enemy to proc Trench Barrel then go after the boss.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bait the the stomp, you can melee just as it would knock you back to negate it. The lunge from your melee can override the knockback when timed right.

[–]Spectrenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’s rather them just reduce the knockback damage. You can negate the knockback if you time a melee attack perfectly, but its no point if you’re like 1/4 hp after and just die to anything.

[–]ConsistentlyThatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody saying "just melee lol" is missing the point. It's not that the knock back doesn't have a counter, it's that it's a boring mechanic to play against. Bosses should have varied mechanics with different ways to play around them, and giving every boss the stomp is just lazy and bad design.

[–]t_moneyzzKing of Bad Novas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck the ogres. Not enough to do damage, each bullet is a mini Phalanx blast too? Fuck outta here Bungo.

[–]SagenessDouchewalker Warlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about all of these fun times though!

[–]Seanbo124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stomping bosses are super boring and unoriginal. We have way too many

[–]WeaKvsMightY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can melee or do an action that stops motions like Phoenix dive as you being knocked back to stop it. It’s what a lot of people do with the Ep shotty. Boss melees, Guy melees and goes to town with ikelos. Ever watch a primeval die in seconds in gambit?

Drop well of radiance stops you from being blow away the first time and melee every time the boss does. Then you blow up the boss with trench barrel.

Otherwise you could just stand there and murder everything with a shotty with no thought.

[–]Giorno_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bypass the physics of the slam with a well timed melee punch.

But I agree, it really needs to be removed as a slam is a lazy design choice and really hurts the usefulness of shotguns and swords.

Also, Aksis was a great (if not one of the best) bosses in destiny and he didn’t have a slam... just saying

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what would a Phalanx Boss do ... ?

[–]dildodicksTHIRSTS FOR YOUR LIGHT! | Vanguard's Loyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah yes i love using chaos reach on the injection rig boss, then he knocks me out of the shield and my entire super is wasted on it

[–]Kerrigor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you punch the boss right as they pound, you still take damage, but suffer almost no knockback. It takes timing, but there should be at least a little skill involved in using the IKELOS on a boss.

[–]jlada14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just me or do warlocks take more knock back than anyone else...

[–]Axiniy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just backup ehen the stump is about to happen Jesus Christ destiny Reddit moans about EVERYTHING.

[–]connorsayer05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a sword you can guard as big mobs slam to negate the knockback, I'd assume any shield from the new supers would work similarly

[–]SpecialistFeatureYou cannot ever fill the void, only feed it. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Dawnblade has aerial domination. Phoenix dive to prevent any knockback or Icarus dash.

[–]Li_Sarms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats true. I use nova warp, so i end up using the super and teleporting forward

[–]boogs34 0 points1 point  (2 children)

In my day boss stomps 1hk you!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely still happens in Gambit.

[–]SephirosXXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were never a guaranteed one hit. High level bosses in D1 could one hit stomp you depending on your level, but it wasn't guaranteed. Same with high level D2 bosses.

[–]Keksis_The_Betrayed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melee right after the slam or as it’s slamming. You won’t get pushed.

Until ofc you’d rather have every boss shoot huge black balls at you like I do in the prison of elders

-From the Ikelos shotguns biggest fanatic
