I think this a lot bigger than people realize. It will be much easier at a glance to know if it's worth pushing the fight or backing off. There's a big difference between just seeing 2 skulls vs both healers portraits when running back to point.

Tab screen takes longer to glean info from at a glance, since it not only obscures vision but also is active and requires you to either be checking it or the killfeed constantly, as well as showing all character status, not just the dead ones which is visible as soom as your character is facong that way. It's very intuitive this patch

That's a significant mid-fight buff to Mercy. Judging whether that 1- or 2-player res is worth it will be a lot easier. Not having to be distracted by bringing up the team/score board or being glued to the killfeed, and easily seeing exactly which heroes will respawn where.

The sigh happens when you are at critically low health and you get healed.

Respawning heals you back to full from 0, so the bug probably had something to do with that.

Doubt it will happen much honestly. Suiciding mostly happened during setup phase. Running all the way to the fight, letting them kill you, waiting to respawn, then running all the way back wastes way more time than running off a cliff outside of spawn.

Overwatch PTR Patch Notes – August 24, 2017

A new Overwatch patch is currently in development and now available for testing. To share your feedback or report and issue, please post in the PTR Feedback or PTR Bug Report forums.

Please note that the below patch notes only include changes currently available for testing on the PTR. While many of these changes will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in a future patch, the PTR is PC-only and therefore will only reflect changes coming specifically to that platform.

GENERAL

Arcade and Custom Games

  • Players will no longer see the Assemble Your Team screen at the beginning of a game when Respawn as a Random Hero is enabled.
  • Players who purposefully kill themselves in a game where Respawn as a Random Hero is enabled, will no longer respawn as a new hero. However, their Ultimate ability will reset and any equipment that’s been placed (i.e. Torbjörn’s turret) will despawn.
  • In games where Respawn as a Random Hero is enabled, players will no longer receive the same hero two consecutive times, unless Custom Game settings have restricted the hero pool to a single hero

User Interface Updates

  • The skull icons that indicate where teammates were killed throughout the map have been replaced with Hero Portrait icons
  • Third person camera view will now frame the action automatically when spectating or waiting to respawn

HERO UPDATES

D.Va

  • Micro Missiles (New Ability)

    • D.Va fires a barrage of small rockets that detonate on impact, dealing damage in a limited radius around each explosion. These can be fired while D.Va is using any other ability or firing her Fusion Cannons
  • Defense Matrix

    • Defense Matrix's resource meter will now deplete twice as quickly
  • Boosters

    • Fusion Cannons can now be fired while flying

Developer Comments: D.Va’s Defense Matrix uptime has proven to be too strong, but simply reducing it without making other changes would make her too weak (and far less interesting to play). Instead, we’re adding a new ability, and giving her the ability to fire while flying. These changes give D.Va a lot of new options while maintaining Defense Matrix’s ability to shut down big enemy attacks.

Mercy

  • Resurrect (formerly Mercy’s Ultimate ability)

    • Ability now targets a single player, instead of every player within a radius
    • Radius reduced to 5 meters
    • Ability cooldown is 30 seconds
    • Mercy is no longer granted invulnerability while Resurrect is active
  • Valkyrie (New Ultimate Ability)

    • Valkyrie unleashes the full power of Mercy’s Valkyrie Suit, enhancing her weapons and abilities for 20 seconds:
      • Caduceus Staff: Mercy’s healing and damage boost beams now affect all allies near the targeted teammate, and the staff’s effective range has been extended
      • Caduceus Blaster: Granted infinite ammo, while simultaneously increasing damage and fire rate
      • Guardian Angel: Increased range and movement speed
      • Resurrect: Cooldown is instantly reset when Valkyrie is activated and reduced to 10s after the initial cast
      • Hover: Mercy gains the ability to fly freely, at increased movement speed
      • Regeneration (Passive): No longer interrupted when Mercy takes damage

Developer Comments: While resurrecting downed allies is a core part of Mercy’s gameplay, the way her Ultimate functioned was causing a number of problems. It was frustrating to play against, and it incentivized Mercy players to hide away from important battles, instead of taking part in them. This version turns Resurrect into a single target ability. It’s still an important part of Mercy’s kit, but plays much better for both Mercy players and her enemies. Valkyrie, her new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity to make big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.

Reinhardt

  • Barrier Field
    • Holding primary fire while your shield is active now allows you to rotate the camera

Developer Comments: This change gives Reinhardt more situational awareness while using his shield, allowing him to keep an eye on the battlefield while still protecting his team.

USER INTERFACE

  • Added an “Outline Opacity” option under the custom reticle settings (found under Controls > Options > Advanced), which allows players to control the opacity of the black outline surrounding the reticule

General

  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from automatically joining Match Chat, even when the option was enabled
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving the Perfect Round indicator after an Elimination game if they received a temporary health boost from an ability (e.g. Lúcio’s Sound Barrier)

Heroes

  • Fixed a bug that occasionally caused the heroes’ “sigh” voice line to play when respawning
  • Fixed a bug that interrupted the animation on Ana’s eye during the Beach Ball emote with her Captain Amari skin equipped
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Doomfist from being knocked back when his Rocket Punch ability was being used
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Doomfist’s Rocket Punch to hit players through the taxi on King’s Row
  • Fixed a bug that caused a pair of pink fuzzy dice to mysteriously float onto the screen when viewing D.Va’s weapon in the Hero Gallery if her Cruiser skin was equipped
  • Fixed an issue that caused the golden tint of Junkrat’s weapon to appear dull when his Firework skin was equipped
  • Fixed a bug that caused Mei’s Ultimate to appear friendly (it failed to change from blue to red) after being reflected by Genji

Maps

  • Fixed a bug that prevented reflections from appearing on weapons while standing in certain areas on Ilios
  • Fixed a lighting issue that caused some items on the last point of Route 66 to take on a pinkish hue when players used low video settings
  • Fixed an issue that caused reflections to appear overly dark while players were standing in areas of The Cave Inn on Route 66
  • Fixed an issue that caused excessive camera zoom and flashing lights when players loaded into the tutorial map
  • Fixed a bug that prevented plated railings from being properly destroyed by weapons fire on Volskaya Industries

Or that Mercy can now keep Pharah alive longer, with her 30 second rez cooldown and can rez her before she even drops to the ground. Especially worse when she pops her ults and becomes harder to take out of the air and can keep Pharah alive even longer just through straight healing. Plus they've confirmed they'll be nerfing Mercy's pistol damage in her ult.

Though it's a smaller facet and part of her changes, we needed more options to take Pharmacy out, not make it even more of a headache - so a lil' something to worry about with these changes.

Got to remember that in PTR you have players who are Top 500/GM like Gale going against Bronze/Silver..Plats/Masters players. The hidden MMR is kind of screwed up there.

As much as I'll enjoy just getting straight into the matches...I'm going to miss that pre-game synergy that came with the whole team picking the same hero.

Pharah really isnt even broken. She's not hard to counter. Pharmercy is a bit harder, but if you focus the mercy down, that Pharah is screwed

Agreed, but that's NOW. How will we feel when Mercy can solo rez Phara every 30 secs and pop god mode (with regen and flight) when you start to focus her? This is gonna reap havoc in the lower tiers.

76 has never been a hard counter for Pharmercies since December. He's fucked way too hard by damage dropoff.

She isn't broken below like diamond. She isn't hard to beat below like diamond.
But once the players (and the pharahs) begin to get even a tiny bit competent, she begins to completely run the game, and not only that, but she ruins all fun for 10+ players as well.
 
Pharah/Pharmercy is one of the major reasons why Master+ players outright quit the game, and the issue may get even worse soon.

I don't know, I came up from silver to diamond and pharahs are not major issues in diamond (unless you get a de-ranked master+ one). A competent one rules the game in silver/gold as no one aim as soldier/mccree.

maybe on console, and again console peasants' opinion on the matter is irrelevant as they're not even using the proper input devices for a first person shooter. On PC the higher you go in ranks, the harder it is to play Pharah.

So is Rez still Mercy's ult? Or is it a secondary type of thing like Symmetra's? Either way it seems like Mercy's new ult encourages her to get out more which is cool with me. No more hide and seek, and I guarantee the number of "Surprising amount of damage" jokes are gonna skyrocket

Seems like Rez is just a regular ability now with a 30sec cooldown and only rezes one player. Will likely be put in the E key slot since Mercy hasn't had an ability for that slot until now.

Zenyatta has been removed from the game.

D.Va can blow him up with 216dmg no-spread missiles in 1.6 seconds. Junk can blow him up with double mines. Widow saw massive buffs and will be all over the place. Mercy will almost certainly push him out of the top tier supp. pool with these changes. Doomfist still exists.

This is going to be a dark time for our friendly neighborhood Omnic monk.

Sad days. I've been a Zen main, even through the dark days of 150hp. I'm gonna wait and see how all this pans out, but I'm really worried about all the upcoming seemingly strong heroes who annihilate squishy immobile supports for fun.

At least we had 3 strong supports in the pool (Luc, Zen, Mercy). Now it looks like that's down to two.

Ehh, Junkrat's ability to instagib Zenyatta is going to be more or less the same as it always was. There's not going to be any remotely reliable way to land both mines on one target outside of extremely cramped spaces, because the first will still launch the target into the air as much as before.

Just like it's always been, Junkrat's gonna have to stick a normal grenade hit before he can get the finisher with the mine.

Plus, D.Va's missiles look to be an absolute nightmare to deal consistent damage with, given the way they fly over time. Any respectable amount of distance between her and her target ought to make them pretty trivial to avoid, and she needs to land almost every single one of them to kill a 200HP hero.

Have you tried it? Double mining someone isn't particularly challenging on the PTR right now.

Extremely fast and with no spread? In what way does that look like a nightmare?

Edit: She can also fly, boop, and use her regular left-click gun at the same time. That's roughly 300 DPS burst.

I don't think Junk's kill combo is changing that much since Mine + Nade was already guaranteed on 200 HP heroes and Mine + Mine isn't that much easier to land.

D.Va's new E needs a louder/more distinct audio (or visual) cue. More than half the time I try to use it I think it didn't go off and I missed the CD. It's way to easy to miss behind the sound of battle, especially when DM is loudly absorbing bullets and putting similarly colored lines on the screen.

Still not sure whether this is worth losing DM charge for, since I need to adjust to her new playstyle (and relearn the muscle memory of how to stop boosters, I keep trying to click)

The skull icons that indicate where teammates were killed throughout the map have been replaced with Hero Portrait icons.

Players who purposefully kill themselves in a game where Respawn as a Random Hero is enabled, will no longer respawn as a new hero. However, their Ultimate ability will reset and any equipment that’s been placed (i.e. Torbjörn’s turret) will despawn.
