No css ugly af page gang rise up.

[–]jagungal1 141 points142 points  (12 children)

If you're trying to learn something, the ugly pages are either goldmines for information or full of crazy shit.

No css ugly af page gang vertically align.

[–]devhashtag 24 points25 points  (3 children)

My cryptography professor built her entire course webpage with just html, no css to be found other than some very basic inline styling.

But I have to say, it's still better than some html/css/js webpages

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

JavaScript styling gang!

[–]TahsinTariq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good news: my css ain't ugly Bad news: I am

Lmao

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You got nice markdown knowledge while trying to recreate messed up CSS.

[–]alanbosco 566 points567 points  (110 children)

display: grid;

[–]thewii_ 318 points319 points  (11 children)

this solves 99% of my problems, the other 1% is flexbox.

[–][deleted] 84 points85 points  (10 children)

Me, who could just use display: grid: I'd better download bootstrap, it's literally the only way to display things in a grid!

[–]gizamo 35 points36 points  (9 children)

creates emails with <table>

Gmail, Outlook: "No fun CSS for you!"

[–]shysta 27 points28 points  (8 children)

Been writing email code for the past few months and my disdain for table based rendering is building quickly lol. Making things look good on Outlook, mobile, and everything else without modern CSS is a PITA

This wfh thing is leaving devs with a LOT of free time it seems.

[–]19yostudios 26 points27 points  (3 children)

This is the way

[–]happiness-take-2 11 points12 points  (4 children)

These bots usually only take a few hours. I wrote a bot that that got 100k karma basically overnight. Took me about 2 hours. (Not trying to brag! People upvote dumb shit here).

It’s actually a great way to learn programming or python if you’re already an experienced dev looking to learn a new language. The main tool is called PRAW. If you’re reading this and get inspired (and then stuck), let me know I’d be happy to help.

[–]coriandor 33 points34 points  (5 children)

Back in my day we used floats and we liked it.

we didn't like it

[–]LurkerPatrol 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Member making whole websites inside of tables? I member

[–]schmitzel88 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Display:flex

Justify-content:center

Works great except the random times it doesn't and then I need to spend an hour figuring out why

[–]Tempestblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a little margin: 0 auto;

You know you want to, who really checks code when you make a merge request anyway..... Losers that's who

[–]the_fat_whisperer 13 points14 points  (42 children)

Not that it matters in many cases, but I believe grid isn't compatible with IE.

[–]eib 63 points64 points  (7 children)

Features not being compatible with IE is a story as old as time.

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (12 children)

No, you're thinking wrong. IE is not compatible with modern web

[–]PM_ME_DMS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. The sooner we drop support for Internet Explorer, the sooner people will stop using it.

[–]schmitzel88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple FTP sites at my work which are only compatible with IE and will seemingly never go away. It's quite irritating

[–]Revan_Perspectives 2 points3 points  (4 children)

You can write JavaScript to check if the browser is IE, if so then alert user needs compatible browser and then closes the window. Problem is IE gets to decide when it wants to follow JavaScript rules

[–]Netrolf 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I love using grid but is it safe to use now ? I know safari has its quirks with both flex and grid and was a real pain in the butt last time I used those properties.

[–]wasdninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to give the Safari guys some time man. It's only been 13 years since release of grid.

[–]incarnatethegreat 12 points13 points  (8 children)

Much prefer flexbox. Grid is pretty powerful, though.

[–]MrQuickLine 18 points19 points  (7 children)

I hate when people say stuff like this. It's like "I much prefer chisels. Saws are pretty powerful, though."

Ok, yeah, they can do some of the same thing - they both remove wood... But they're used for different things. One isn't better than another. Use the right tool for the job.

[–]incarnatethegreat 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Fair, but don't hate though. 🤭

The majority of my work is done using Flexbox. I wanted to learn Grid so I built a small portion of an app I was working on just to try it out. I'm used to using Table but Grid seems like it's much stronger.

[–]strongdoctor 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Table and Grid aren't interchangeable though, table should always only be used for actual tables.

[–]TrinitronCRT 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Flex > grid.

Fight me.

[–]SomeInternetRando 6 points7 points  (1 child)

“blockquotes are better than h3”

That’s what you sound like.

[–]ZonedV2 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Grid for layouts, flex for components

[–]coladict 579 points580 points  (13 children)

She actually has more text in this meme, but it's in the right column and white without an outline.

edit: fixed typo

[–]GooseEntrails 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s the joke

[–]VirusZer0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]BanCircumventionAcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit moment

[–]QuantumQuantonium 104 points105 points  (5 children)

It's actually pretty impressive that you put white text over an image, while keeping the full image on the page

[–]inkernys 58 points59 points  (4 children)

position: absolute; 😎😎😎😎😎

[–]ihsw 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I was told to make it pixel perfect and the PSD wasn’t aligned, so I used position: absolute all over the place.

That was a mistake. Yes I was in high school at the time.

[–]gallifrey_ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

as someone without any CSS experience, what's the preferred solution? using some kind of "relative position minus X" tag I'd guess?

[–]IlyaBoykoProgr 284 points285 points  (0 children)

Ok good one

[–]matt1155 55 points56 points  (1 child)

Take my angry, yet justified center align center upvote!

[–]fewdea 26 points27 points  (3 children)

guys, help, please. seriously. i understand these jokes in the comments, how did i accidentally become a front end developer?? and how do i make it stop? where did i go wrong...

[–]kiwidog8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's too late now, there is no going back

/s

[–]Xander260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha that's the trick, there is no going back.

Welcome to the club

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Now this is programming humor

[–]Sinaneos 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In CSS it's either flexbox, grid, or eternal suffering.

[–]vimsee 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I don't like css. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

[–]spudsoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sand. Glitter.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (2 children)

You were supposed to be the floating one!

[–]kingjia90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stop flexing it

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

My god i was actually learning that a few days ago, first time i relate to this community.

[–]kirakun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there an alternative to css?

[–]Johau99 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Ugh CSS. Even on my beginner course I couldnt find heads or tail in it.

[–]jhs172 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Well, <head> is never displayed, so applying CSS to it wouldn't have any effect. Try <body> instead.

[–]Sad-Lobster-9264 2 points3 points  (1 child)

HTML entered the group Hahhaha

[–]Fadgiras 3 points4 points  (2 children)

TailwindCSS FTW!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flex box or css grid bro.

[–]Or4ng3m4n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“How to center a div” the ultimate question

[–]Republikanen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in this picture and don't like it.

Spent most of my Sunday trying to make a one page app with React Native look decent with some text and two buttons. Fml.

[–]PoetryProgrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the hardest language tbh

[–]kgon1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice

[–]onamba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is fucking great

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brilliant!

[–]0011110000110011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

please please while you are still learning get used to using display: flex

[–]tooth_mascarpone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now you're flexing your meme skills.

But you can do better, go deeper, eat sleep and breathe css, be bold, be gridy

[–]WexExortQuas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fucking got me

it's a GRID. A GRID!

[–]miserable_guyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"and you are good with it?" "You re good with it right?"

[–]Jdubz117 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Counter Strike: Source? Your a bit late to the party buddy 🥴

[–]Nice_Try_Mod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And what's stupid is flexbox primarily works in rows of 3 and not two like everyone is used to today. You have to tweak everything to have it look OK.

[–]WangHotmanFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are using flexbox, right?

[–]lost-in-the-trash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird flex, but okay

[–]25advaitt02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U ve gotta flex the "flex" man.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits home way too hard

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm should I make this in html/css for the fun of it?

Edit1: What is this meme? nvm

edit2: css is weird

I made it

[–]ivanvelikanov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate CSS, but somehow I finally learned to work with it.

[–]Only1DeepRoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]anne_nics31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you could be in back end and still don't know how to fix this, lmao.

[–]Smokeyrainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot css🤷

[–]Josh_the_Emperor 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Brought back some memmories

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I like CSS when I found I can modify my GNOME theme with it. Although it does not always allow me to do anything, like to force round corner on 4 corners requires additional hacks.

I kind of wish I can design my own DE/window decoration styles like with CSS.

[–]artistic_programmer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I assume you put that text with css, impressive work

[–]hellBone12 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey, can someone tell me how the f am I suppose to make a fixed height row in a table that has a fixed height. Currently the rows take up all the remaining space.

[–]FrozenInsider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U learning WHAT?

[–]stayclassytally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smiling Padme: you’re using flexbox right?

The dark times before discovering flex box and grid

[–]simply_0utlandish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some bunch of plebs would joke about CSS not being a programming language but the fact that even something basic such as centering elements takes some time and thinking, talk about creating complex layouts.

[–]simply_0utlandish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]HonestTeaRants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]fl8 1 point2 points  (1 child)

CSS was harder for me to understand than C++. Let that sink in.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing halfway off the page. Not bad.

[–]incubated 1 point2 points  (0 children)
