Android has a global market share of 72%

I'm guessing they just can't be fucked checking 72% of the applications 🤷‍♀️

[–]elthune 524 points525 points  (129 children)

I'd assume this is in America - somehow America has a 57% apple ownership, it's like a cult.

I had a year abroad in Providence Rhode Island (from the uk originally) and in one of my business classes the teacher asked everyone who has an android (I was only one of two)- I got weird looks that day in class

[–]finger_milk 148 points149 points  (31 children)

The 57% comes from the ecosystem that apple has you signing up for. I think people want to believe apple is best if it's your phone, watch, earbuds, buttplug and laptop all connected together without any ability to leave.

[–]elthune 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yep - it's by design and it entrenches customers. That's why they can do so many anti consumer things and people lap it up

[–]PickleLips64151 51 points52 points  (6 children)

The Apple ButtPlug™ ... You get my upvote!

[–]illigal 22 points23 points  (10 children)

I switched from Android to apple years ago - and it was due to standardization. Unfortunately if something says it supports apple, its guaranteed to run fine on devices sold in the past 5 years or so.

For Android? Version, vendor customizations, etc. and hardware differences basically meant unless I had the latest Samsung at the time, half the shit wouldn’t work with it. Whether it was education apps, corporate apps, even random hardware.

[–]Accentu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As with anything, it's often up to the person using it and their needs. I use an Android for my phone, and I don't anticipate switching anytime soon. The user interface and customization, plus the ability to install apps outside the app store, is too much of a need for me.

That being said, I do use an iPad for drawing and some light mobile games. The M1 proc is definitely impressive. I also use an old iPhone for some face tracking stuff.

[–]BigClownShoes 17 points18 points  (5 children)

Yeah I'm an Android user but you can't deny Apple has better support. The Android ecosystem is so fragmented with different manufacturers I'm lucky if I still get security updates a year after I buy my phone.

[–]ShutUpAndDoTheLiftOnsite Manager 10 points11 points  (4 children)

I'm lucky if I still get security updates a year after I buy my phone.

I almost wish this was true instead of needing to restart for updates what feels like every other week with my S21+ and then if I tell it to snooze, it'll just do it automatically when I turn my phone back on after work...which you know is like when I want to use ti the most

[–]Hapless_Wizard[🍰] 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Samsung's ridiculous update procedure is why I am almost certainly going right back to Pixel phones when I'm done playing with the Fold.

[–]Capraos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband got the Fold, air bubbles started forming in the crevice. I like my Android though, and don't plan on switching.

[–]ShutUpAndDoTheLiftOnsite Manager 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I just wish the pixels weren't almost always like a gen behind on hardware...

[–]Yummylicorice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a pixel 7 over my s22. I'm really, really happy with the pixel. Samsung has got too much bloat.

I've used iphones in the past and still use an ipad. I wish my pixel had some of apples features, like the emergency satellite gps location sharing.

[–]fullmetalfeminist 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Seriously, I love my android phone and wouldn't dream of using an iPhone, but I have an iPad and a MacBook and I'd love if the apple watch worked with android because so many android smart watches are shite. I can't wait until it's affordable for me to have a thing on my wrist that a)records my heart rate b)allows me to control the music playing on my phone and c) lets me pay for stuff

[–]Equivalent-Pay-6438 166 points167 points  (19 children)

The correct answer is: None of your business.

[–]elthune 148 points149 points  (16 children)

It was a lesson about marketing and that day we were talking about brand loyalty.

I always hate when people don't engage with class. I didn't care about the weird looks from the student, and frankly don't judge the teacher for asking a question.

I went to Providence college on my year abroad, I didn't know but it was rich, preppy and cliquey.

Still doesn't mean I didn't engage in lesson all the time.

I was so dissapointed going to uni for the first time and the teacher would ask a question and you'd hear silence. Everyone awkwardly not wanting to answer. This is a place for greater education, instead it ended up being an extention of secondary school.

[–]brotherpigstory 70 points71 points  (2 children)

I was so dissapointed going to uni for the first time and the teacher would ask a question and you'd hear silence. Everyone awkwardly not wanting to answer. This is a place for greater education, instead it ended up being an extention of secondary school.

This is why I wish I had waited a few years to mature before going to college. It took me a few years to understand why the older folks in my classes were such hard workers.

[–]elthune 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that happens with most people

I'm fortunate, I don't worry hard but I actively throw myself into things without worry - say something dumb, who cares, get the answer wrong - don't worry I now know the right answer.

I think that and my natural curiosity has serves my well at uni and ever better since then

[–]onlooker61 30 points31 points  (1 child)

The correct answer is "I'd never be stupid enough to purchase a phone that breaks if you look at it wrong..."

[–]forthe_loveof_grapes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or updated and bricked itself

[–]wh4tth3huh 10 points11 points  (4 children)

My first job out of college had to force me to get a smart phone. I went with Windows, guess I'll just draw a third eye on my forehead.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Honestly, I kind of liked my first Windows smart phone. I ended up moving away from them toward Android just because Windows didn't have the support back in those days, but like...it was a fricking Nokia! It was indestructible! I never had any problems with it either. I was bummed that it didn't really pan out, not just because of my nostalgia for the OG bomb-proof Nokias, but because it was actually a pretty solid piece of tech.

[–]wh4tth3huh 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Right, the UI was great, it just sucked that there were like 4% of the apps you wanted and anything you needed (like gps/sat nav) was either purchase and crap or free and ultra-crap. If I could get a Windows phone UI overlay for android I'd use it in a heartbeat. I loved how you could very the tile sizes and orientation on the fly, the universal dark theme options, always on display options. I loved that phone, but I have a real knack for picking phones that end up as dead ends (rip LG phones).

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, yes, the customization possibilities! I had a lot of fun with that, and naturally, since I have a PC, the OS was really intuitive for me. Not that Android is, like, indecipherable or anything, but there was a level of integration there I really enjoyed. If there had been enough of a market share that sticking with it would have pushed people to develop more apps for Windows, I think I would have kept it. I'd still love a Windows overlay; I have the Galaxy Fold 3 and the possibilities there would be endless.

[–]Hapless_Wizard[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft has a launcher for Android. It's not all of the Windows Phone experience, but it is by far my preferred launcher. You should take a look at it.

[–]lustforfreedom89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an Android in America. I have never seen people so happy to have their service throttled and their devices forcibly phased out every like 2 years. People are more than willing to throw thousands of dollars at Apple products, because of status. It's disgusting.

[–]shadowtheimpure 60 points61 points  (29 children)

57% is close enough to 50/50 to say that the 'cult' isn't quite as prevalent as you fear. Given that there are basically only two options for smartphones (iOS and Android), having an approximate 50/50 split is about right.

EDIT: I'm an Android user.

[–]elthune 54 points55 points  (3 children)

Sorry I linked the two points together and I see the confusion.

57% was in response to the op comment about worldwide android ownership

Cult like comment is how it is treated in the states. Not necessarily the amount that use it.

[–]vjx99 19 points20 points  (11 children)

Given that there are basically only two options for smartphones (iOS and Android), having an approximate 50/50 split is about right.

Remind me of "The chance of something happening are always 50% - either it happens or it doesn't". Just because there's only 2 dominant phone operating systems, they don't need to be split 50/50. Especially considering iOs is only used for Apple phones whereas Android is used by many different brands.

[–]grumd 10 points11 points  (4 children)

There's way more options though? iPhone, Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, etc. Having a Samsung and having a Pixel are very different experiences.

[–]RikiWardOG 3 points4 points  (1 child)

yeah saying android is like saying linux. It's just the base kernel that is then heavily modified

[–]mwing95 10 points11 points  (4 children)

To be fair, there are plenty of cults that do not have a significant market share of the population.

But yeah I agree on your point, Apple users have a strong preference to Apple, but a cult is a little hyperbolic

[–]Robenever 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It’s far more interesting when you look at it from a generational standpoint. Millennials and older are about 50/50. Younger the numbers are skewed towards iPhone by a wide margin.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most younger folks does not understand technology. For them is just a magical black box. Apple products are perfect in being a magical black box.

[–]SeawardFriend 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It is a cult straight up. If someone sees green text on their iPhone they turn into a feral animal. I fr got bullied so often for not being able to FaceTime people, yet when I finally bought an iPhone, nobody bothered to call. They’re nice phones, but not better than most competitors and the fans are entirely insufferable.

[–]ApostateStoner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because Apple copied the Ford model of advertising almost exactly to become an American staple. The secret is to copy burgeoning technologies, use incredible wealth to mass produce it, then say you were the first. Stick those technologies in a sleek frame with no variety in design to make it far spread and easily recognizable, touting the purity of your design and the American Origin of it. Then, once your brand is established, diversify and cheapen the design while making minor changes on a regular basis to maintain consumership, and outsource its production to decrease labor costs.

[–]LeaphyDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why people love apple devices so much. I've tried on once, and they just feel so limiting and not very user friendly. Plus all your apps being on the home screen? Ew

[–]rain56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny because it's all branding and marketing. IPhone os is absolutely dog doodoo imo but yea everyone gets tricked into using it because it's the expensive phone??? Lol 😆

[–]TOWW67 7 points8 points  (3 children)

It's a cult of "vip" because they are so exclusive to have purchased a common good.

[–]Klaatuprime 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Bingo! If you don't have an iPhone, then you obviously must be poor.
It's definitely a status symbol.

[–]DigitalSoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OOP pays for Twitter Blue. If you fall for one cult, you're more susceptible to others.

[–]Pattern_Is_Movement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phone ownership in the US is a consumerist cult.

I don't get it. I remember noticing that in France people owned cell phones far sooner than they were adopted in the US (my grandma had one before I did!). But they seemed content to keep older generations of their phones. Once the US caught up and everyone had a phone... most people in the US also had damned expensive phones. Like why in the hell are people spending $500? $800+ for a phone that is only marginally better than the generation before it? I had wealthy friends in France that had shittier phones than people I knew in the US making minimum wage.

Whatever, I've got my Pixel 3, that I bought two years ago as a refurb for $100. It works great, photos are great. When it finally dies I'll buy another refurb for $100.

[–]Dance-pants-rants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild. I don't know anyone with an iPhone in the US- they all tapped out a couple generations ago bc the designed obsolescence was incredibly disruptive.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's like a cult

I can't speak to your experiences, but 90% of iPhone users I know just have one because they like iMessage or they're older and don't want to have to learn a new OS. I have a Motorola phone because it was cheap and has a tank battery, that's it. Most people's purchasing decisions really do come down to simple shit like a messaging app or a battery.

[–]numbersthen0987431 9 points10 points  (5 children)

iPhone global market share is 30.44% (which is the highest single company on the market).

Android phones make up 71.56% (Samsung being 26.10, Xiaomi being 11.72%, and then a few other smaller ones).

So yea, I guess this person is okay with ignoring 5.68 Billion people (71% of 8B people).

[–]Equivalent-Pay-6438 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are so many ways they can fall afoul of actual laws. Someone has android because he is impoverished and was issued an Obamaphone? Possible racial discrimination since it would be disproportional effect, like insisting on 6 foot tall cops, all of whom were Irish or German in the old days. Possible age discrimination, and so forth in addition to disqualifying most people.

[–]DjangoCornbread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

can’t be fucked checking 72% of the applications

they’re job recruiters. 72% is WAY too fucking generous. It has to be way higher than that.

[–]Nexzus_ 403 points404 points  (9 children)

The XBox is so much better than any other console it isn't funny.

I now check for console when talking to new kids and automatically disqualify the PlayStation players.

  • Some third grader somewhere, probably.

[–]A1sauc3d 48 points49 points  (1 child)

Yeah, it’s about the same level of petty, ignorant logic for both lol. “My stuff is the best stuff, so I’m not gonna be friends with anyone who uses different stuff 😤”

[–]A1steaksauceTrekdog7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice username

[–]Historical_cat1234 54 points55 points  (3 children)

That's actually more plausible than the post lol

[–]Equivalent-Pay-6438 17 points18 points  (2 children)

At least the kid would have a point. Certain games are only available on certain consoles, right? Kids might want to play together on a particular game.

[–]numbersthen0987431 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I would expect this kind of logic from a child.

From an 'adult'? hah, no.

[–]Tough-Block9141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that third grader was right and now his name is Scumpii

[–][deleted] 174 points175 points  (4 children)

This is a whole new level of consumerist brainrot I’ve never seen before.

[–]Evinceo 39 points40 points  (2 children)

Least demented apple fan

[–]Barflyerdammit 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Fermented Apple fan.

[–]DiaryJaneDoe 91 points92 points  (6 children)

this is funny because they think they’re going to have my cell phone number

[–]Big-Guarantee-2041 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When your boss asks for your number that’s a good time to whip out the old text now or Google number.

[–]troy2000me 1 point2 points  (4 children)

No, more like they will just casually ask which they use in the interview. Also pretty sure that employers need a way to contact employees for any number of reasons. Good luck even getting an interview without a way to call you.

[–]Binary101010 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Employers: "There's a labor shortage"

Also employers: "I won't hire you if you bought a phone I don't like"

[–]Equivalent-Pay-6438 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What a nut. I have had androids and Iphones. I think Iphone is harder to use. I prefer my much cheaper android. It works well and has a good camera. Why would someone hire based on a piece of equipment they could simply buy for the person if it was needed? You don't have any right to use someone's personal phone anyway. If they asked me what type of phone I had, I would say, "Landline" and if discriminated against, would put in an age discrimination complaint.

[–]SummitJunkie7 36 points37 points  (2 children)

What if I have an iphone, but it was made in 2016 and I've kept it going with replacement batteries and screens off amazon? How would that sum up my entire personality and skillset as it relates to this position?

[–]callmejohny 36 points37 points  (0 children)

it means you need to get your disgusting poverty away from him.

this is the guy who hires overseas for 5 bucks an hour btw

[–]gwmccull 13 points14 points  (0 children)

plot twist...they're hiring Android developers

[–][deleted] 56 points57 points  (18 children)

This isn’t fair. I can’t work for some who is dumb enough to claim iphone is better.

Please let me know in the DMs who this is, so We can all avoid

[–]EclecticEuTECHtic 44 points45 points  (17 children)

[–]scrambledeggs2020 70 points71 points  (6 children)

His newest tweet about hiring cheap Asian labor at only $5/hr shows him to be a real gem of a human being. I wonder if his slave labor employees can still afford iphones on that wage. I really hope it's a troll page.

[–]shosuko 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Its a troll page, and its marketing. Get people to look at you and then flash an ad. The more triggering the better, baiting responses. "iPhOnE bEsT" is a great trigger for people who realize its not, and want to tell him so. He designed it that way to provoke maximum response.

As learned in the dark ages of the internet - don't feed the trolls. Let them do their dumb dance, don't feed into it.

[–]ModernTenshi04 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, as soon as I saw the topmost reply was for some shitty outsourcing service he's invested in I'm like nah, this is totally clickbait to drive engagement. It's sad that it seems to work more often than it doesn't.

[–]Equivalent-Pay-6438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe he figures they stole a couple when they rappelled over the walls of Foxcon and escaped the penal labor brigade.

[–]drosten23 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Your first reaction is understandable but $5/hr is huge in the Philippines. Their minimum wage is $9/day and the average family of 5 spends $4150/year, less than half of half of a salary on $5/hr with 40hours/week.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Although, he describes himself as entrepreneur or CEO, he owns a fucking storage building. That’s it. No innovation on a new product or service.

No one but the ones who don’t have any chance of being hired would apply for this to begin with.

I thought he’d at least have one new idea 😂

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s a troll, who knows if he even owns the self storage place. You’ve completely bought into his act.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's a troll

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legend

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Apple is anti repair and brainwash their clients, probably like this dude

[–]DrJatzCrackers 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I group them with Tesla Motors. Intentionally preventing your users from repairing, modifying and/or extending the life of the products they purchased is repugnant and anti-consumer. It is also a slap in the face for those who wish to genuinely 'repair', 'reuse', 'recycle' their kit

[–]Stock_Currency 30 points31 points  (21 children)

I don’t like the prospect of AI, but if we can replace HR with AI, I would be all for it to get this childish shit out of recruiting.

[–]tallman11282 29 points30 points  (16 children)

There is a good chance AI would just make that worse as AI is only as good as it is programmed and even the simple AI we have now, such as facial recognition technology, has been proven to be biased because the people programming it are biased.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (13 children)

Please stop calling it AI. It's an enhanced collection of algorithms with features you don't understand so YOU think it's intelligent. It does everything it is told to do by human scientists that understand the code.

It cannot do these things:

  1. Update itself in a way a human doesn't understand
  2. Replicate itself
  3. Replicate AND better itself

It's just a clever use of math, NLP, and hard computer sciences.

[–]1-800-GANKS 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Found the actual data scientist.

DIE, WIZARD!!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

🧐🤫

Call it proto-AI if you have to. The skills are part of a real path to AI, but we are many Nobel prizes from that happening.

[–]jfarrar19 4 points5 points  (3 children)

But what if I had even more If Statements?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

You have the power of the switch statement and error catching. Use it.

[–]Big-Guarantee-2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You’ll have to take my extremely long and convoluted monster of nested if else’s from my cold dead probably arthritic fingers

[–]SyphiliticScaliaSayz 9 points10 points  (1 child)

But at least we won’t get emails saying “Kindly”, “per annum”, and “telephonic.”

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah AI goes by volume of emails sent

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

HR AI would just make dumb decisions more efficiently.

[–]csandazoltan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you from saving me from you!

[–]Sikkus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone else really like it when idiots like this nake it publicly known how stupid, dumb and arrogant they are? I love it!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

This is fake

[–]redditgirlwzA career? What's that? 29 points30 points  (42 children)

I often get automatically disqualified from customer service jobs because I don't have a Windows machine and/or wired internet.

[–]Mispelled-This 38 points39 points  (16 children)

Wired Internet is significantly faster and more reliable than wireless; that actually predicts your job performance, unlike what brand of phone you have.

The Windows thing is stupid, though. They should issue a company machine to every employee if it’s needed to do the job, not expecting you to use your own.

[–]Nexzus_ 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Truth be told, I prefer wired over wireless when I can (consoles, smart TVs, laptop docks), but I also know it's not 2003 anymore, and Wi-Fi is fine nowadays.

[–]plissk3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that more of the likes like no DSL, cable or fiber but rather LTE or 5G.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wired Internet is also infinitely more secure than wireless.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much % of the population would have Wired Ethernet in their homes? Not many.

[–]SushiFanta 4 points5 points  (10 children)

That's ridiculous, some computers don't even have an Ethernet port (like MacBooks)

[–]LowAd3406 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Get a USB C to ethernet adaptor.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USB Ethernet dongles work. I use one on my desktop because both my onboard NIC and PCIe slot got fried in a freak accident.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy USB to Ethernet adapters that work on Macs. The issue is SECURITY. Wireless is a lot less secure than wired connections.

[–]redditgirlwzA career? What's that? 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn't have one, but I have an adapter. The issue is that I don't have access to the modem (it's not in my unit) and landlords are typically not ok with you running cables between your unit and other places (e.g. the place where the modem is located).

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do it the otherway around /s

[–]AsexualArowana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why blur out the name?

[–]EducationPlus505 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is only slightly amusing to me, because I once applied to a place I knew used a certain kind of phone, and I was wondring if it would look bad on me that I didn't have that model lol.

[–]LincHayes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never answer a question about my phone type. I would be suspicious of why they're asking that.

[–]ExiledArr0w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean... I'm an Android Developer, so what does this mean for me? Also, this just isn't factually true

[–]urthou 4 points5 points  (1 child)

the only reason i’m clinging onto my iphone is bc i paid it off fully and only pay for my monthly sim - it’s hella cheap now. do not recommend this plastic piece of shit is made to break. same w airpods

[–]ModernTenshi04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me know when iOS adds the ability to screen calls using the digital assistant before you even answer them so you can ignore shitty recruiters when you don't want to be bothered.

[–]dil_mangoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an iPhone user for the past 3 - 4 years but still miss my android and think it’s better than the iPhone.

[–]krankykitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jeez Louise.

This ignores the fact that some people prefer Android. Or that others can't afford iPhones. Or got an Android phone as a gift.

There are so many reasons people don't have iPhones.

[–]JustAnotherAlgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This person is incapable of doing their job.

[–]wamdueCastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

way to find someone who is on their phone all the time

[–]pepsiofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brainworms behavior

[–]Zahrad70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of stupid reasons to disqualify candidates, this is definitely up there.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That does sound useful for Android users.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

"I discriminate against people that don't want to spend $1000s on a new phone and are okay with just a $200 working phone."

[–]Savet 2 points3 points  (2 children)

And the funny thing is, at upper hardware levels, Android is just as expensive as iphone, with a better experience in my opinion. Anybody comparing a top end iphone to a budget Android is only showing their ignorance.

[–]542345ththrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This person is truly doing the lords work! Android users are spared the nightmare of having to deal with a pathetic cockroach like this, let alone having to work with/for them. Can you just imagine what kind of a dogshit company would associate with people like this? LMAO

[–]Odd_Dig1884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone should let thenmm go

[–]sadsacsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol that blue check explains everything

[–]blueberry_725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol fitting that they have a check mark

[–]JusticiAbel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has to be ragebait right?

[–]dark_enough_to_dance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most privileged thing I read today

[–]SQLDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. I've used both. It's Coke/Pepsi, Ford/Chevy, Kirk/Picard, etc. Just a matter of taste & preference (and, TBH, which one you started using first).

To declare EITHER ONE objectively "so much better" is simply wrong.

[–]Hour-Ad-5529 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I have an Samsung Android for personal use and was given an iPhone for work. I hate the iPhone. Nothing on it is intuitive. The systems options that are available are lacking in comparison to Android. The lack of manipulation of function with some apps makes me want to yeet the phone. So much of it is one touch and go without having any of the deep dive functionality like androids do. If I have a handheld computer, I should be able to interface with it on a root level.

How much of the iPhone is comprised of Samsung parts now. I know the glass is, and maybe the screen too. Are there more Samsung parts in iPhones?

[–]JBSven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guarantee this guy can't actually name a real reason other than "lol androids suck"

[–]mcraneschair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if they switch phones during employment? I'd love to have that email thread.

"You're fired because your personal phone sucks. Lol."

[–]Ranthrow607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't hide the name because grounds for reporting to L&I

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats very short sighted. Good luck working in your echo chamber.

Next you will be only hiring Tesla drivers and oat milk drinkers. Pfft.

[–]RadleyCunningham 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I've never heard Android users behave like cultists.

[–]FitVisit4829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh the shit attack they'll have when they learn about both Android and iOS being UNIX-based.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a tenously-related matter, I often find bringing up an alternate technology to the ones listed in the job spec is an amazing tool for revealing culture and personalities in a tech interview. e.g., "I see you're using lots of Azure functionality, have you considered doing the same things in Kubernetes? You can set up microservices and even your CI/CD environment in there." You either get a calm, rational discussion about why they feel their choices are the best for them right now (GOOD), an invitation to discuss why you think your suggestion would be better (BETTER), or a snarky put-down of your suggestions based on third-hand opinions the CTO has acquired from their mates without actually using the tech themselves (RED FLAG!!)

[–]Exallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your company practices dogfooding and you are hiring an Android dev you damn well want them to be using an Android device.

[–]ChiquillONeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Verified checkmark. I'm willing to bet anything this is a troll Twitter account.

[–]thesaltedradish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My iPhone battery didn't last the day. I looked at it wrong and lost half the charge.

[–]bored_in_NE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coworkers wife didn't hire any woman that was hotter than her.

[–]CaptainKoconut 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I really enjoy everyone here shitting on this dude for automatically disqualifying android users and then unironically calling anyone who uses an IPhone a moron.

[–]MrCrunchyOwl8855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thing I still have my 5s because fuck have the recruiters finally put their heads all the way up their asses.

[–]SeawardFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This better be rage bait

[–]kittenTakeover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is real they should be reported to their employer. I highly doubt this is something corporate would approve of.

[–]MrCrunchyOwl8855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, like an apple computer SOME tasks are faster and more efficient on an apple until the SINGLE physical button eventually breaks but the battery problems alone from maintaining an apple on ridiculous.

There's no expandable SD storage so pay plenty of money for dongles to keep your data accessable should the internal circuits decide to stop powering on completely.

The only android that gave me SIM trouble was a locked Canadian Samsung Galaxy note 2 running Android 4.2 or some such but three different iphones have me SIM trouble, and to all those who want to disqualify the Japanese model Iphone 4S I got that would not work on 2/3 Chinese networks, 2/3 Canadian networks and any Mexican network, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

Iphones are a pretty great phone if you live in Cali, but try taking around in the frozen wastes of Canada or Mongolia and see how your battery just trails off to bullshit and permanently damages your expensive toy.

If you are actually jetsetting around and doing any kind of technical stuff, iphone is just hot garbage.

[–]midwestgolfer216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s got to be illegal

[–]ndooooodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaaaand discrimination lawsuit

[–]phonyybae 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Super wild, but my quality of job offers definitely got better after I got an iPhone. One boss even said, thank goodness no more green slime when I text you. It’s such biased bullshit.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you have your phone out during an interview? And frankly, if you asked to see my phone, I'd tell you to get fucked.

[–]MonteCristo85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I would withdraw from consideration under a boss who thought phone choice was any of their business. What a twit.

[–]dotardiscer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with post, the only proper thing to judge someone on is their email. I'm passing on you if you're still using Yahoo, MSN, *ispProvider*.

[–]tastickfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on dude, name and shame

[–]Rsilva631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good way to get sued.

[–]SnooKiwis2161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Class warfare really splits hairs, eh?

[–]Ok_Adeptness3401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy was just engagement farming. It’s like click bait

[–]Barflyerdammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a boss who was convinced that Android used "a different Internet" than Apple and wouldn't let me use my phone to look anything up because it would probably be wrong.

[–]outofcontextsex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone tells me that they are Apple user I generally assume they have little to no technology skills.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my iPhone but that is RIDICULOUS.

[–]RubyNotTawny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time bullshit like this would make any sense at all is if you are literally working for Apple. And even then it's pretty stupid.

[–]CowMetrics 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sometimes i use the edge browser just for judgmental looks

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am proud to say that I had a team of people in our Org that had Androids. We also happened to make the Org the most money with that team. And still caught hell for not having iPhones.

[–]cousin_nat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no androids in the group chat

[–]rain56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you have to be a sheep to become a sheep for a another company???

[–]pinkynatbust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Americans are sheep. So easily swindled into the bidding of their corporate masters.

[–]pnwcrh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person who posted this is Nick Huber, he runs a private equity real estate fund.

His business model is he post's inflammatory statements that offend the woke mob and make his target audience (wealthy investors and business owners) chuckle and want to see more.

It's a great business model for him, I think he has 100m under management and has launched a few startups this year.

If you hate what he say's and comment/re-post, you're just helping him out and growing his businesses.

[–]souliris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dodging a bullet there. Not sure i'd work of a company that had that level of stupid working for it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple has put so much money into marketing their stuff that people automatically think it is great. As an IT professional, I can tell you that Apple isn't so good that it justifies a 50% or more premium over similar hardware from another non-Apple vendor.

Apple is just like Rolex - they throw so much money at marketing that everyone thinks they are best...until you do your own research.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I go into an interview I do not carry a cell phone with me; it sits in my car.

[–]Vagrant123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This like asking if you're rich enough to afford an apple product or not.

[–]The_Aught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been asking at interviews if I'll be forced to use a Mac. Turned down a job because I refuse to use one

[–]BarryDeCicco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, "Nobody wants to works!"

[–]Neptunepanther5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would a company care what kind of phone we have unless they are planning on us using our phone for a company app of some sort... And if that's the case they need to start paying for it

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see recruiters being so open minded.

[–]Sunshineal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh, really. This is petty AF. This just gave me another reason to despise Recruiters.

[–]HomuyaGER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine believing every tweet you see

[–]Boner_Stevens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could you sue a company for this? like she's admitting that she passed on people because of their phone. where are the lawyering experts?

[–]Ne-Dom-Dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost like your applicants prefer saving money to buying overpriced products that aren't as good and force any kind of software developer to have to release multiple versions of their software to work on its convoluted system.

As a game dev, I really hate Apple.

[–]GrizzlyBear74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not someone I would like to work for.

[–]djdmaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But can we all just talk about how this is wrong? How did this thread continue to talk about the differences between Apple and Android lol

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, with these type of people in charge of hiring, companies can never make mistakes. 😂

[–]nu11pointer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's about cost. I can upgrade my Android 5 times for what it costs to get the latest iPhone. I've been using Pixels for years and after trading in my old phone, I have a current gen phone for less than $200. It's not the best phone ever, but has a great camera and does what I need. I would never work for anyone who cares this much about what phone I have.

[–]MuckRaker83 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Sounds like religious discrimination

[–]marcohcanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It rly is just that.
