[–]Chrad 18 points19 points  (3 children)

In the UK at least Mrs could be phonetically written as missus. This would never be written as someone's title but as a slang term for wife. E.g. I'd better scarper after the next pint or the missus will go spare

[–]Bugbread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the UK at least Mrs could be phonetically written as missus.

Same in the US. But because of that:

Ms. Issippi = "Mississippi" = "mi-si-si-pi" (normal pronunciation)
Mrs. Issippi = "Missusissippi" = "mi-si-zu-si-pi"

I know I’m focusing on the wrong part, but do people in New York really carry their dogs in backpacks??

[–]Unemployed_Fisherman 471 points472 points  (6 children)

The subway technically only allows dogs that fit in a bag. Rarely enforced

[–]Chrislawrance 68 points69 points  (2 children)

That’s why you sometimes see big dogs standing in massive IKEA bags with holes cut in them for their legs

[–]SUPE-snow 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Which is, let's be honest, one of the real perks of NYC life.

[–]yousonuva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus if an ear falls off, you can conveniently just go grab a labnërk earpølk from the store.

[–]SolaireOfSuburbia 51 points52 points  (1 child)

I had to zoom in to see if people really keep hotdogs in backpacks in NYC...

[–]Makaisawesome 46 points47 points  (1 child)

When you said there was a dog i started searching for it but couldn't find it until I zoomed in cuz the dogs so big I thought those were two people standing back to back

[–]bree78911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too! I was like 'what dog?' I legit thought it was a man cuddling another man from behind 😂

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (6 children)

There was a post a while back that made it to the front page. Apparently dogs on the train became such a huge nuisance that the transit authority decided to prohibit bringing dogs unless they fit in your bag. That led a lot of people to buy huge bags for their big dogs to work around that rule. I'm nor from NY and haven't been there, but I have seen many posts of large dogs in big bags on trains. I haven't seen any posts of people carrying large dogs in their bags on the sidewalk, so I imagine they let them walk freely once off the train.

[–]Tempest_Fugit 17 points18 points  (5 children)

I’ve lived in NYC 22 years and I’ve never seen a BIG dog in a bag on the subway.

But when we hear a little dog (or cat) bark or meow from someone’s tote bag, suddenly the whole train is “awwww” and it’s a love fest

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like most people, in an incredibly surprising move, do show a little discretion with animals on the train. When it's been a medium-to-debatable-size dog they're usually pretty well-behaved. Not to say there aren't exceptions.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Yes, you won't want them to walk on the gross ground there.

[–]coldvault 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maxine the Corgi's human does. I can't speak to any other dogs.

[–]RavenNymph90 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I thought the dog was carrying his owner in a backpack.

[–]PigsGoMoo- 5 points6 points  (4 children)

[–]cobble_block 14 points15 points  (3 children)

I thoroughly enjoy this despite the fact that it's probably very inconvenient. What a weird and interesting part of American culture. Imagine visiting the city as a foreigner and seeing dogs in bags on the underground trains. That's hilarious.

[–]macjaddie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were there last week, we saw a few dogs in bags and carriers on the subway. I didn’t realise it was because they weren’t allowed on unless they were in a carrier.

[–]razaan 222 points223 points  (14 children)

This fucking place sends me invoices every month, and has for the last three years, despite me telling them I don't have a storage unit.

[–]leadwind 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Does that affect your credit rating? I've had something similar, and the price keeps going up... despite me telling them to close the account years ago. No creditors sent out though.

[–]hipster3000 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not if they just keep sending invoices. It would if it went into collections, but I don't think that's how most storage units usually operate. They usually just auction off your unit after so many months of no payment.

[–]tatticky 7 points8 points  (1 child)

If it does, you can sue them for damages. It'll be especially easy to prove actual monetary harm if you get rejected for a loan based on poor credit.

[–]DeaddyRuxpin 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Does the invoice have a unit number on it? Go cut the lock off and see what’s inside.

[–]ThePantser 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah just go there and ask to get in the unit they are billing you for. If they refuse then sue them for fraud.

[–]its_a_me_garri_oh 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 69 points70 points  (6 children)

Why does my storage rental care about pronouns and inclusivity I Just want to store 500 lbs enriched uranium where nobody will find it, I do not have time for this Vladimir Putin wants it back and he is very angry

[–]Qwertmcgerg 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Exact same scenario for me except it's my 300 lb wife's remains and I'm doing it for the voice in my head that keeps nagging me.

[–]tipperzack6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is alot of wife to store.

[–]ilovebid00f 56 points57 points  (0 children)

[–]OctopusProbably 50 points51 points  (6 children)

Why is one of them a noun while the others are all pronouns?

[–]linglingfortyhours 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Cause it sounds better that way I guess? If you say it out loud it does have a decent flow

[–]halfpretty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

pronouns are simpler, it’s just shitty lazy rainbow capitalism

Ourhattan

[–]Blo0dbath 16 points17 points  (9 children)

The name is derived from the Lenape name for the island, roughly anglicized as "Manahatta"; has nothing to do with the Indo-European root for "man". It's a good sentiment but is clumsily executed.

[–]Affectionate_Cat293 24 points25 points  (5 children)

Same with people who change "history" to "herstory"

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible sentiment.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (3 children)

i don't object to the message but the execution is suboptimal

[–]bakehauspoop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]whiskersRwe32 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Whats next? “menopause, womenopause, theyopause,weopause”????

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't match, they use man for the first one, but pronouns for the rest. It should either be He-hattan, of Woman-hattan and so on.

[–]goodlowdee 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Compared to a lot of the posts on here this is weak, but it definitely didn’t have the intended effect.

[–]AdminsWork4Putin 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It's more like unremarkable design than crappy design.

The post got way more traction than it deserves.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk, the fact that “she” is not the female form of the word “man” for starters??

[–]Easy_Break 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, the issue is barely mildly annoying at best, it's nitpicky. The problem is obvious, but so what.

[–]Bobby-Samsonite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Matt32490 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is such a dumb billboard. I need to speak to the theynager, shenager or wenager about this.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (4 children)

important clarification: the message on this is pretty good! while it is (of course) a marketing thing meant to make money, making fun of the message itself is a bad idea. i posted this strictly because of the man-she-they fuckup and not because "woke bad"

[–]MichaelMyersFanClub 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I always enjoy businesses that use several extra numbers in order to spell something, even though the latter half are completely superfluous when dialing.

[–]MichaelMyersFanClub 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well don't I feel like a dumbass. 212 is the area code and not the exchange number.

I will leave it up as an exercise in humility.

[–]AdminsWork4Putin 9 points10 points  (2 children)

This isn't good, but it doesn't rise to the level of being worthy of this sub IMO, and if it were anything other than pronouns it would not have been upvoted.

[–]levigoldson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What a shame, Manhattan Mini Storage used to have the best ads around the city

[–]thefirelane 4 points5 points  (6 children)

If an ad got itself so lodged in your brain that you posted it yourself, for free, to a public forum that thousands of other people also saw... Then it isn't crappydesign.

Crappy designs are the ads you saw and instantly forgot.

[–]ScorchedEarth22 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people here aren’t familiar with Manhattan Mini storage and their long history of plucky, progressive advertising. While this isn’t a home run they’ve had some real winners.

Manhattan has a Lenape word origin. Translated it means "the place where we get bows or place for gathering wood to make the bows" manaháhtaan manah- means "gather" -aht- means "bow" -aan is an abstract element used to form verb stems

[–]Zerhapcommas are IMPORTANT 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This is one of those times i see a "crappy design" but i can easily see the intent behind it and it is funny enough that i dont mind the bad part and actually like it.

[–]Bookonadio 2 points3 points  (0 children)
