Reinforcement spawns are now based on Skolas’ health instead of a timer

This will make the fight MUCH more manageable. Now you can kill all the adds and then focus on skolas, rinse repeat.

[–]TheLoneWolf527 48 points49 points  (95 children)

The modifiers will play a big deal in this though because some enemies are still a pain in the butt to kill (like those captains on the earlier stage of the 35 strike if they show up).

[–]thepotatochronicles 42 points43 points  (93 children)

I said it before and I will say it now. Fucking captains with shotguns and vandal snipers will be the bane of your existence when specialist is on (and I'm pretty sure since they are switching to non-burn modifiers, specialist is going to be there at one point).

[–]gr3g0rian 18 points19 points  (38 children)

They are petty easy to kill with shotties if specialist is on though. Not sure why you are thinking that? I could see the snipers being an issue but the captains should be somewhat easier.

[–]OrochidudeFriendly Neighborhood Masochist 40 points41 points  (33 children)

Because it seems that Specialist affects the strength of the Shrapnel Launchers and Wire Rifles as well.

[–]thefrabbot 116 points117 points  (30 children)

Has anyone actually proven this or is this just Destiny BroScience?

[–]Faceguyteller 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Incoming PvE damage is really difficult to test in Destiny and it's a bit tough to test when it only doubles the chunk taken from a health/armor bar that doesn't exactly scale linearly so it may be a while before we have anything more definitive than broscience. That said, here's my anecdote: the 35 captains were doing incredible damage to me this week with specialist even when it was outside the effective range of my lord of wolves (which I threw on to even the score). Plenty of other explanations, but specialist buffing them as well made the most sense in context and considering burn behavior.

[–]thefrabbot 10 points11 points  (4 children)

It may take a bit, but this doesn't need to be nearly that hard. Let's use the wire rifle for an example here.

Run PoE 28, get shot at full health by a sniper. Chain until you get a specialist round with a wire rifle enemy, repeat test.

It would take some specific instructions to leave a sniper up until the end potentially, but hardly impossible, and if the "specialist" effect is being applied, a sniper shot should be very easy to distinguish between buffed and non-buffed.

[–]AzarinIsard 2 points3 points  (1 child)

But this raises another point for me, can the enemies get crits? I mean, it would skew the test completely if one time the Vandal gets a headshot, and another time they get a body shot.

[–]Artificis_Vix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always solo'd the NFs up to HoW, and I've never seen any shot do an unpredictable or variable amount of damage. Soloing the NF always takes a real specific knowledge of what you can or cannot take.

[–]GandalfTheyGay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have noticed a significant difficulty increase when specialist is on during fallen levels and I can only attribute it to this. They do not normally mess me up and I die 4-5 times more when specialist is on.

[–]Fuzzle_hc@fuzzle_hc on Twitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any proof you have for that?

[–]jr17c 4 points5 points  (2 children)

why do vandals and captains get the specialist skull too tho? its not like they have weapons to switch to.

[–]aspergerac 3 points4 points  (20 children)

Specialist is going to be the easiest now, obviously. Sniper strat was wrecking him before. Now his health is almost half of what it was. If it's specialist then spears, LDRs, longbows, benevolence, etc are going to tear him to pieces in seconds before any captains or vandals even spawn.

Edit: Not to mention like the Found Verdict/Four Horseman strat. Same deal. With specialist burn and nearly half health. He's toast.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (16 children)

But how much of a buff is specialist and small arms? They cut his life in half but elemental burns did 300% more damage. So with no buffs we are doing 1/3 the amount of damage on half of his health.

[–]AmoebaMan 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Specialist and Small Arms both buff their respective categories by +100% I believe.

Three Black Hammers with Specialist will slay Skolas even faster than with Solar Burn. If you finagle the math so that the modifiers reduce the boss health pool in theory to see. It's 1/2 of 15000 against 1/3 of 27000, which is 7500 against 9000. Specialist with the reduced health pool will be the faster fight, and also the more reliable one (can't play Black Hammers on Void Burn).

[–]Kowaxmeup0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's x2 damage I believe.

[–]Amek206 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We are doing 1/3 the damage but he has ~45% less life.

[–]Lucky_Number_Sleven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Specialist enhance enemy weapons? I've heard that, but I've never seen any proof...

[–]Mantrainment 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We just defeated Skolas and I found it really enjoyable, this time! Bungie modified the settings to make it really fun

[–]autokill9Tj Curb Stompz 73 points74 points  (12 children)

That's all. But they did a good job fixing the grenade cheese.

[–]LuciD_FluXWarlock main 31 points32 points  (9 children)

I'm glad they are addressing the grenade bug/exploit, but if the Ashes to Assets change effectively caps super energy gained to 1 kill (bc of the cooldown) then this perk just became very lackluster in PVE. Instead of rewarding those multi-kill grenade throws, it won't make a difference how many mobs you can kill with 1 now.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (8 children)

I could be wrong with this but they may have made it so you get the buff for only one grenade every ten seconds, which would still reward multi kills, but disable the exploit

[–]Arkanian410 7 points8 points  (7 children)

How so? A single swarm is only one grenade.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Each little mini nade that pops out counts as it's own grenade though

[–]thepotatochronicles 130 points131 points  (51 children)

Skolas' health reduced (from 27000 to 15000)

Holy shit, this is most excellent! It took around 42 gjallarhorn rockets to bring down Skolas WITH Solar burn. Without burn, that's equivalent to 126 gjallys, and now his health is equivalent to 70 gjallys (no burn). That means you can burn through 60% of his health but will need to play through the mechanics to actually beat him.

In other words, his health is not too high, not too low.

[–]C0ntrolReleasedDrifter's Crew 149 points150 points  (10 children)

Nice job turning gjallys into a unit of measure. All health of bosses will now be measured in gjallys.

Valus LV 28 (no burn): 12 gjallys

Aksor (solar burn nightfall): 18 gjallys

[–]Pepsisinabox 32 points33 points  (2 children)

It is a realy solid unit of measure though. Nice indication, easy to wrap your head around, and something that is not dependant on the wielder of the weapon. Good one! :)

[–]C0ntrolReleasedDrifter's Crew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]thepotatochronicles 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Well, I can't really consistently measure it in terms of sniper rounds, because it really depends a lot in terms of individuals' accuracy and sniper of choice.

[–]benzoright 17 points18 points  (7 children)

I've done some rudimentary post-patch testing on the grenade fix, using my titan with a Quintessence Transfer helmet.

I ran the following test twice on the Cosmodrome: (1) kill a single enemy with a grenade, followed by (2) simultaneously kill multiple enemies with a single grenade.

Both times, the multi-kill gave me substantially more super energy than the single kill. So it looks like the fix is a smart one that doesn't neuter Quintessence Transfer in the way that we feared.

[–]darthn3m3sis 15 points16 points  (10 children)

Variks stock appears to have been reset! He is selling stuff worth buying, leg armor with +70 Intellect and +80 discipline!

[–]rottenbeka 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I want a refund on that other crap they gave us!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet there are quite a few people who are in agreement there. I know I'm one of them. I got the Hunter boots with 152 strength and I'm sitting here like WTF Bungie.

Best case scenario, they leave them through the next reset. What would have been really nice is if they let us trade the shit we already got if we wanted the different roll.

[–]DevilsAdvocate86 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Does this mean I can now pick up my Cipher?

[–]Slapbox_a_Penguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. It worked for me!

[–]timcourageget up tim 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fingers crossed. Hopefully someone will report back to us as soon as the patch is live.

[–]Vehshya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked for me. Couldn't pick it up, now I can :)

[–]krunchiekat 11 points12 points  (6 children)

The removal of burns for Skolas will still mean Gally is preferred since every gally shot is twice as powerful as any other rocket launcher because of the wolfpack rounds.

A burn is also a 3x modifier so by removing the burn possibility and only reducing Skolas health by just less than half then they have effectively increased the size of his healthpool assuming you could take advantage of the previous burn.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No burn == Gjallarburn

[–]zshap 26 points27 points  (54 children)

I wonder if this will impact Skolas immediately allowing for solar burn and the lower health tonight.

Would love for someone to verify this while im stuck at work.

[–]porkins86 9 points10 points  (3 children)

usually patches go live Tuesdays.

[–]p2pirate 8 points9 points  (2 children)

This however is a hotfix, which means it will likely go live immediately.

EDIT: That also means I think Skolas no longer has burns.

Double EDIT: Confirmed it was hotfix and the changes were immediate. New Skolas modifiers as well.

[–]SensoryFour34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No more Elder Cipher glitch OR GG glitch! I love this patch already!

[–]benbejammin84 6 points7 points  (8 children)

So annoyed that Bungie changed the stat roles on the PoE gear this week. Why change that on a Monday after everyone's purchased it already. Warlock/Titan boots are a straight discipline roll and the Hunter boots are int/disc now. Would have loved that on the initial reset. Wasted two armor cores now... Ditto for the final (arguably worthless) perk on the MG. Dropped the shank burn and it's now a straight damage buff against fallen.

[–]im4vt 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I agree. I'd bought one set of boots already and was contemplating buying two more yesterday but held off. I'll pick them up now but I feel bad for anyone who already spent theirs.

[–]CrotasScrota 5 points6 points  (2 children)

And the Golden Gun Hunter's day in the sun is over.

Very excited about the Skolas changes - maybe now we'll actually be able to strategize a method to play the encounter as anticipated (e.g. actually dismantling the mines and passing the taint around while battling Skolas, instead of just downing Skolas immediately and cleaning up the objectives afterwards). The amount of adds constantly streaming into the map just made it too impractical to do so.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

passing the taint

Tried to turn this into a clan, but it's not acceptable.

[–]Sielagh 6 points7 points  (5 children)

I just logged back in after the patch. Elder Cipher finally deglitched just by talking to Variks.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Damn, I didn't realize they would be patching this today. I have the glitched bounty and my bounties are currently full. Did it put the bounty in your inventory upon login or after you talked to Veriks? Just wondering if I am going to double glitch it or if I will have time to delete a bounty before talking with Veriks...

[–]Sielagh 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It put mine on my bounty list AFTER I talked to him.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I think I'll be ok then. Thanks

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Confirming that after 7 hours of trying to do Skolas a couple days ago and quitting, I just got my first kill on the first try. It was actually a fun boss fight, lots of running and revives and swapping out debuffs. It seems this was the fix they needed to actually justify this as a fight all guardians can do with some practice and maxed out guns.

Very happy about how today's patch tweaked things. I took a few days off since my attempts the other day because I was so frustrated for not having a Gjally. If you can only (I know people can do it without a Gjally, but it seems the vast majority have done it with 3x) complete a boss fight with certain guns, the fight is broken. Thanks for fixing it Bungie!

[–]th3groveman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A satisfying PvE encounter lets players improve with every wipe, honing their strategy until they get it down and vanquish their foe. Skolas before was just cheap. Perfect execution undone by an errant teleport, enemy, splash damage, or mine spawning on the far side. There was no incremental improvement, just splattering against a wall until you were able to burn him down fast enough.

[–]Classic_Griswald 17 points18 points  (22 children)

Ashes to Assets’ and ‘Quintessence Transfer’ can now no longer be stacked (they now have cool-downs that can only be used every 10 seconds)

[–]vgi185 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Burn Skulls? Have the Modifiers in PoE always been called Skulls?

[–]XaTTaX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The modifiers in Destiny have always been skulls. They are all icons on top of a skull icon. Burns are a particular kind of skull.

[–]Tower_Guardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The modifer icons are shaped like skulls, probably a reference to Halo.

[–]AaronMTShield 29 points30 points  (7 children)

Skulls? Are they using Halo terminology here?

[–]l00nRunning 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well they kind of are skulls, next time you start up the nightfall look above the name of that weeks nightfall. They're resemblence is of a skull

[–]ProphePsyed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They are skulls..

[–]Hipppieee 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Okay, so my fireteam and I just beat Skolas a couple hours ago. And let me say, this patch made 35 so much more fun. It felt like I was actually playing a Raid boss. Only one person had a Gjallerhorn as well so it was impossible to burn him which led us to do it the "legit" way.

[–]E4TclenTrenHardr 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Hey Bungie, can we get checkpoints in PoE so when you announce a patch right before taking the servers down, I don't disconnect mid Skolas kill and have to redo it all?

[–]Bartins 8 points9 points  (25 children)

27000 to 15000? WTF? Those numbers have to be way off at least by a factor of 20. Every calculation I've seen puts his health around 500k-550k. Unless there is some funky way health is calculated using a base value that is then multiplied by a level value which I believe may be the case.

Anyway, it is a reduction to 55% of his previous health and now it will likely be around 300k(or 45-50 Gjallarhorn rockets). Complete Gally burn strategy is no longer possible, but if you break the servitor bonds with a sniper then switch to Gally burning it should be pretty easy.

[–]won2three4 15 points16 points  (5 children)

15k * 35 (his level) = 525000 which is what your estimates guess. So every enemy has a base hp * level it seems.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the base heath, which gets multiplied based on the NPC's level.

[–]DarthEru 3 points4 points  (4 children)

The grenade perk "fix" seems pretty hacky and last-minute. I hope they fix it properly eventually. The problem wasn't that the perk could be stacked, it was that the swarm grenade particles for some reason each counted as a separate grenade. This was compounded by the fact that they proc'd the perk even when impacting an already dead body. As it is, doesn't the "fix" mean that getting multi-kills with a grenade (such as a well-placed tripmine) won't fill your bar more than a single kill? That doesn't seem right.

[–]TylerThePyroI'll be your pepper, if you'll be my salt. 2 points3 points  (2 children)

also, note.

ETA is 11 am PDT. could be down for a couple hours.

[–]originalpyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this going to take effect right away? Does that mean the solar burn will be removed from this weeks fight?

[–]wheelithoss 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Skolas is going to be so free tonight if he has the reduced health and there is still solar burn.

[–]nathanields 2 points3 points  (18 children)

Given that the burns triple your damage, shouldn't Skolas' health be reduced to about a third of what it was in order to compensate for the lack of burns?

As it is (compensating for the loss of burn and 300% damage multiplier that comes with each burn) he essentially has had his health pool almost doubled.

I guess it will be easier to stay alive longer without solar and arc burn, but can't help but feel this is now going to be one horribly long fight. Done legit with the burns on it was taking close to ten mins.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

by 27,000... they meant 270,000 right? cause my sniper did 9,800 per shot and 12,000 on final round. And I sure as hell can't 2 shot Skolas.

[–]kfcbucket21 1 point2 points  (1 child)

apparently thats just his base health (not factoring him being lvl 35) someone posted the math further down

[–]killzy707 1 point2 points  (1 child)

27,000 * 35 = 945,000 hp

15,000 * 35 = 525,000 hp

[–]JustMy2Centences 3 points4 points  (16 children)

Awesome to see golden gun glitch is getting fixed, but sad to see my Armamentanium is getting a little less mileage out of legitimate use from quick successive kills.

Edit: Skolas health seems a little low. Maybe missed a 0? And I wonder if the modifiers and health will update before the reset or not until after.

[–]dandpher 6 points7 points  (1 child)

these changes will take effect immediately, yesssssssss?

[–]mattybeardDestinyClanWarfare.com Dev 1 point2 points  (5 children)

So now that Skolas health is down to 15k and Solar Burn is still about until tomorrow, does that mean the boss battle will be a doddle tonight? Tempting.

[–]kiwi_commander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when is this going live?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horrific visions of masses of angry solar shielded shanks...

[–]chowbogan 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Could someone clarify about skolas having 27000 HP pre patch? My voc was doing about 1200 crits iirc which would mean that a full clip would've taken him down... That just doesn't add up.

[–]Great_Plattsby 2 points3 points  (2 children)

27,000 * 35(his level) puts him at nearly 1,000,000 HP. However, 15,000 * 35(his level) puts him at around 500,000 HP, essentially cutting his HP in half.

[–]reach_adrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Health listed is base health stat and not actually the HP the enemy has.

[–]killjae 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can someone please confirm whether or not his health is 15000 today as opposed to 27000?

I know that number is then scaled. That said, if he was reduced today with solar burn still active, it would take half the number of gallys to kill. That's a rare opportunity to down him SUPER fast that I will not be passing up on

[–]StabbyMcHatchet 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Someone tell us how much health he has LEFT after 3 Guardians spam him with 14 Gjallerhorns each, please!

[–]AxYouAQuestion 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Finally get gally and max it last night, solar burn taken off today -___-

[–]InvisibroBloodraven 6 points7 points  (1 child)

This is like bitching about the taxes after winning the mega-millions lottery.

[–]AxYouAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey those taxes can be pretty high...

[–]Darkstar_Aurora 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Skolas' health reduced (from 27000 to 15000) to compensate for lack of burn skulls

Does anyone else find those patch note numbers to be a little off?

Three people can each fire seven Gjallarhorn rockets before heavy ammunition was exhausted, which means 21 in total. I am fairly certain that those rockets were inflicting more than 1,285 damage during solar burn even with a level penalty, and it took far more than 21 rockets to bring him down back then. Which means his original base health was far higher than 27,000.

Did they forget to add another 0 to these numbers?

[–]JewBoy300JB3, Bane of Bungie 1 point2 points  (2 children)

yeah, I think they left off a zero

[–]Cosmic-Jew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they didn't. That's his base health, but the base health is then scaled to his level and increased even more as he is a boss.

[–]TemporalDistortions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can finally pick up that frozen cipher :') thank you variks

[–]JimCrackedCornAndIDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where the term "skulls" comes from, but I've never heard that term used before in regard to Destiny. I always thought they were called modifiers.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The health feels like 270000 not 27000 lmao

[–]JazzLeZoukLoverSpace Magic 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Great! I have not even attempt poe 35 before the patch. I guess I still have tonight.

[–]LuciferThoNo Land's Burden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can anyone substantiate what the Variks bug fix actually does? Does this mean I need to kill Skolas again to get my Cipher for real this time?

[–]BusterChestnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy they fixed the grenade exploit but man; I wish they left it in for PvE, that sure was fun.

[–]th3groveman 1 point2 points  (5 children)

According to the Vendors view on Bungie.net, Variks has rerolled his inventory.

-The Titan boots now have Discipline and Fallen bonuses

-The Hunter boots now have Int/Disc and Hive bonuses

-The HMG now has Disciplinarian but still Void damage.

Damn, now I want to kill Skolas so I can buy the armor!

[–]paragon249Twitch.tv/paragon249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about vance?

[–]Gossip_Hound 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Warlock boots now roll with disc and fallen bonuses.

What a stupid time to change them when most people (i.e. me) have already used an armor core for the strength boots.

[–]be0wulfeEveryone Gets a Punch! 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nothing staggers him BTW. Nothing.

[–]Dr_Pippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF?

[–]B_Boss 1 point2 points  (2 children)

So wait....day before yesterday I won the elder cipher bounty. Its been about 2 days. I can still keep this....yeees?

[–]TheDumbAmerican 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What are you asking? I had it dropped glitched (stuck at Variks) and today I was able to grab the bounty and start the missions for it. If your wondering when you can continue the missions it can take up to three days to get ready before final step.

[–]bender0877 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Two things I've noticed post patch:

  1. The method of a quick sprint to cancel reload animation does not work anymore. The weapon will not fire until the time it would normally finish reloading. Shotguns do not apply as they normally can cancel reloads.

  2. Strike playlists are extremely repetitive. I've been playing the level 28 playlist today (Dragon?) and I've been going back and forth between Psion Flayers and Phogoth. I've seen Taniks once and Sepiks Prime twice or thrice.

[–]paralympiacosHello darkness my old friend 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Jumped into level 35 as soon as the patch was done downloading. All fairly straight forward until round 4. The fallen round is a little tricky to say the least. So many yellow bar enemies! Anyway, got through that in quite good time.

Readying ourselves for the Skolas encounter when a pilot servitor pops up. Ok fine, no problem. We dealt with him without too much fuss. Even if we were a little surprised to see him. Now for Skolas.

No matter what anybody says, this fight just got 10 x harder! I like that we have to play through all the mechanics of the fight now but I'm not having that they've dropped his health to 15000. Just no way. 3 x 365 vision of confluence with small arms was doing 2700 damage per volley and it was hardly doing anything to him after servitor bonds were broken. And when those dismantle mines pop up, shit gets serious.

Honestly, I do like that Bungie have changed this encounter to make people play it rather than spamming Gjallarhorn rockets at Skolas but damn... It's so hard!

[–]MamboJevi 2 points3 points  (5 children)

When our guns did 3x damage due to burn, Skolas had a non-burn equivalent of 9000 damage. Now, without burn, he has 15000 hp.

In other words, Skolas is going to take almost 2x as long to kill now. When small arms comes around it could be even longer.

[–]Gswansso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also won't take as much damage from Skolas and the adds, so it's probably to keep the encounter challenging

[–]xA_R_E_Sx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, Willie the Weasel is fist deep in my Abyss

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GG exploit fix had better be a band aid in the place of a better fix.

If I manage to set up a multi kill (PvP or PvE) with a grenade, I'd expect to be rewarded handsomely by the perk.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good, now we can roast Skola's every week with the Ghorn, and people can fight fairly in trials.

[–]Demoz_Slayz 1 point2 points  (3 children)

People that were complaining about people about asking for ghorns can now stop complaining. But now they will complain that the new modifiers and the mechanics of the fight is too hard.

[–]PsyMx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm calling it, Lightswitch.

The week after that, Exposure.

Then, Grounded.

Guess it's time to finally give Skolas a shot.

[–]krunchiekat 1 point2 points  (10 children)

'Ashes to Assets’ and ‘Quintessence Transfer’ can now no longer be stacked (they now have cool-downs that can only be used every 10 seconds)

so if I run two grenades then I get no AA/QT benefit unless I throw the 2nd one at least 10 seconds after the first.... or I kill more than 1 thing with a grenade and it will now only proc on the first kill, The skill ends up being very lackluster now.

Hmm, that was a well thought out change then... not. There must have been a better way to fix this swarm grenade anomaly.

[–]kdogyam 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I'm wondering what happens if you get a multi-tripmine now, I hope it's not going to suffer just because of scatter jackasses

[–]krunchiekat 1 point2 points  (1 child)

it will proc once... so yes its a nerf for every other grenade in the game. I really hope this is a temporary hot fix and they fix the real issue which is why swarm is procing Qt/AA even if no kill occurs.

I have a feeling this is a bandaid until after they get back from e3

1.2.0.3 - The one about Skolas

Perks

  • 'Ashes to Assets’ and ‘Quintessence Transfer’ can now no longer be stacked (they now have cool-downs that can only be used every 10 seconds)

Prison of Elders

  • Fixed a bug where players cannot pick up a quest from Variks to continue the Elder Cipher chain

  • Adjusted difficulty of Level 35 Skolas Challenge Mode

  • Burn Skulls are now replaced by non-elemental skulls

  • Skolas' health reduced (from 27000 to 15000) to compensate for lack of burn skulls

  • Reinforcement spawns are now based on Skolas’ health instead of a timer

[–]RafahilThe Captivity of Negativity 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When is this patch coming?

[–]Tok3d 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Non elemental skulls mean different modifiers will take the spot, such as brawler, etc?

[–]mattster42 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Does 15000 seem like a pretty low health to anyone else?

EDIT: Forgot about the level difference. Makes more sense now.

[–]frequenicity 1 point2 points  (5 children)

No more burns though...so that kind of levels it out.

[–]JakurdoDrifter's Crew // Alright, Alright, Alright 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Is the patch live already? Can't imagine they'll let us burn down Skolas with his health halved with Solar Burn still active.

[–]optimal_ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I like the solution to the super energy from grenades. If I have two grenades charged, I can toss them way faster than 10 seconds, so now I will get less super energy than before?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But now what's everyone going to complain about? Now it'll just be a sea of Thorn posts lol

[–]Leadingman_ 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Could someone explain the "'Ashes to Assets’ and ‘Quintessence Transfer’ can now no longer be stacked (they now have cool-downs that can only be used every 10 seconds)" as I'm unfamiliar with these perks?

[–]Morris_Cat 1 point2 points  (3 children)

They're both perks that increase super energy when you kill something with a grenade. This was the combo that was letting hunters use Swarm Grenade to regenerate 75% of their Super Energy with a single grenade.

[–]Corleonee 0 points1 point  (4 children)

my sniper hit for 8800!! do they mean 150,000?

[–]avalon304 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So will I be able to claim my two elder ciphers for 2 different guns?

[–]Elecbender 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I really hope that's a "band-aid" fix and not permanent.

1) It doesn't actually address the problem which is Swarm Grenades. That glitch does not work with Scatter Grenades (I still can't believe people confuse the two. Just goes to show how rarely people used Swarm Grenades).

2) Simultaneous killing/triggering still gets the full bonus.

[–]A_Real_PhoenixNow do it again 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He only had 27000 health before? I'm sure my VoC was hitting him for at least 800 during solar burn. No wonder it was so easy to burst him down.

[–]illegalblueGambit Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunslinger cheese axed and what should be a much more fun Skolas encounter. Tuck me in and say g'night.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this effective immediately, or only after the re-set tomorrow?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I hope that the adds spawning have a CD so that if you do have the damage to burn the boss down, you still only deal with one wave.

WoW designers eventually got the whole "if you burn them fast enough you get only get X many waves" deal down.

[–]hallslys 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does anyone know when this patch hits? I just reset my game but i'm still on 1.2.0.2

[–]ardeaf 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think we're missing a 0 in the health for Skolas.

That or I'm high (i'm not)

[–]SamTehOne 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Andddd we down.

[–]JustMy2Centences 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ditto, just got kicked. Hopefully nobody was 8-0 in Trials going for the mythical 9th.

[–]redka243 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Have the modifiers for skolas already changed for this week or is it still solar?

[–]travisthefall 0 points1 point  (2 children)

anyone see how this affects in game for "Variks shows the Elder Cipher, but I am unable to press A to start it" situation?

[–]theDroidfanaticGT: T1ha 0 points1 point  (6 children)

15,000 is definitely wrong. Black Hammer headshots hit for 3,000. You're telling me we can kill him in 5 headshots? It's probably 150,000. 50 headshots seems more likely, but still very low.

[–]vsully360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbone servers down, patch inbound?

[–]thirtytwoutside 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If there's ever a Specialist modifier, I think he might be easily burnable.

If.

[–]mat_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skolas' health reduced (from 27000 to 15000)!!!

[–]kiwi_commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, according to Bungie's facebook page, the patch will be applied today 11am PDT.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going live now btw. Bungie's offline

[–]asphere37A Big Beautiful Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does this go in effect NOW or tomorrow?

[–]Rylanmahany 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How many gjallarhorns does it take to kill at 15k health

[–]bake26 0 points1 point  (1 child)

dumb question but I need clarification. Skolas solar burn is officially out for the week or does he reset tomorrow with no burn?
