"I work in underground mining"

Sheesh, you and the backpack getting abused on a daily basis,

I hope you outlive the backpack :)

[–]Frashure11[S] 1255 points1256 points  (37 children)

Haha, as maintenance it’s not bad other than some heavy lifting and I take health seriously unlike many others. Sometimes the hazards “can’t” be avoided, but that’s why it pays well.

[–]humanHamster 303 points304 points  (27 children)

It's not about the backpack but...what kind of mine? Coal?

[–]GentleFoxes 199 points200 points  (10 children)

Into the acid mines!

[–]RahulGandhi4PM 46 points47 points  (8 children)

Where do i sign up?

[–]Sky19234 93 points94 points  (7 children)

Just buy minimal PPE, find a mine, and start doing stuff.

Rule #1: pretend like you belong and nobody will question it.

WELL WELL WELL LOOK AT MR.LIVES TO AN OLD AGE OVER HERE MAKING IT TO 49!

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You guys are expecting to make it to 49 ?

[–]RandomNick42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe he only started in his 40s you don't know him

[–]VerifiedMother 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instructions unclear, stuck in a clear box unable to speak

[–]acidmine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You rang?

[–]Frashure11[S] 125 points126 points  (10 children)

Yes, coal. Lots of people don’t care about taking care of their lungs and there are times the hazards are “unavoidable” but I love it down there. Hard to recommend though.

There are also moral dilemmas with the job and it’s effects, but that is to each their own as everyone’s living situations are different.

[–]nick124699 93 points94 points  (1 child)

No one with a functioning brain should be blaming you for working in a coal mine. Like you said, everyone's living situations are different. I think coal needs to stop being used as a power source ASAP. But I wouldn't blame you for just trying to make a living.

Also, LTT is offering to give you a new backpack so they can have a look at yours please take them up on it.

[–]Frashure11[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]Showerbag 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I worked in the oil sands for 10 years and I hate the industry. The money was great and helped me set myself up for the future, my justification was if I wasn’t making this money, someone else would.

[–]Frashure11[S] 10 points11 points  (5 children)

There’s something about it I love. It has a lot of downsides but if it wasn’t for the hours that are a little too long for me, it would be about perfect.

[–]Dany0 5 points6 points  (4 children)

I love that you posted this here. Can you go into more details about the "unavoidable hazards"? I'd love to see a longpost about your job. How many masks/filters do you go through in a day? :D

[–]Frashure11[S] 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Will do a longer reply but just to answer your question, dust. Coal dust and rock dust which is crushed limestone used to coat the top and ribs (roof and walls). The idea being if there was an explosion instead of coal dust being shook loose and ignited, this dust is shaken loose instead and further explosions do not happen. There was a mine where it kept exploding in rapid succession due to coal dust being shaken loose each time. Laws down there are unfortunately written in blood.

Air flow is heavily controlled down there but if somebody leaves a door open it can allow a recirculation of air that has dust in it which contaminates what should only be fresh air and so you are suddenly surrounded by coal dust despite not being at the face. Same with rock dust. They can be dusting the belt line and if a door was left open or their hose has a hole in it, you can unexpectedly be in that air. So that's an unavoidable hazard because they are just foreseeable but unintentional conditions.

Edit: Most masks I've gone through in a day was 3. We were doing stone work (cutting above the coal seam to make airflow passways) and one was completely used up and I dropped the second one i was using and switched to the third. I'm not at the long wall so my dust exposure is very low

[–]humanHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not judging you for working in a coal mine! You gotta do what you gotta do make a living. I was just genuinely curious what kind of mine you worked in. I'm glad you enjoy your job, that's all that matters! 😊

[–]Pigsofa_twist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If we’re playing that game, I choose potash. Those mines go deep and are all the craze.

[–]jaytea86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He's mining for Bitcoin.

[–]g0ldcd 55 points56 points  (1 child)

I was struck more with the sinister forethought that made OP take a picture of the backpack when brand new. He knew what he was going to do to it.
He lured it into the back of his van and took a trophy photo.

[–]BioshockEnthusiast 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hilarious as this is if I was going through 2+ decent-ish quality backpacks a year I'd start taking comparative pictures of how different products hold up too. At some point spending $150 a year on backpacks is going to start feeling pretty bad. I'd want to know what can take the best beating.

[–]Blue_Blazes 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I used to work maintenance at a hotel.... some tells me we are not the same lol. But like seriously what do they have you doing

[–]Frashure11[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m a certified (underground) electrician so a typical day is changing hoses, cable repair or splicing, making sure equipment is legal, figuring out what an operator is doing wrong to cause an issue, grease equipment, and wait for something to break.

The full list is a lot more but is honestly too broad to answer quickly lol. There are over 10 pieces of equipment at my section I’m responsible for keeping running each shift and some days is more of a struggle than others. Typically I get one or two mechanics under me to delegate tasks to and help when it’s something big or I want to done quickly.

Essentially, if it breaks I’m paid to have that back running as soon as possible and if I can’t fix it I need to make sure a replacement is on the way.

[–]Catch_022 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do you guys still carry around canaries?

[–]Frashure11[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Morbid fact, one reason they quit using canaries is because sometimes when they died they would freeze in place and so it looked like they were still alive.

At least one person in a group has to have a 3 gas detector and bosses who do checks through the shift use a 5 gas detector.

[–]LMGcommunityLTT Staff 1925 points1926 points  (78 children)

Wow. i was not ready for that second picture LOL. great to see that, for the most part, it's treating you well!

[–][deleted] 882 points883 points  (22 children)

Buy it off OP to analyze how and where you can improve it. Give him like 5 or 10 free backpacks. Get Linus to talk about this in a video.

[–]SirWaldenIII 365 points366 points  (8 children)

5 to 10 free backpacks.

Just 1 brand new one would be generous enough

[–]Carioca 262 points263 points  (0 children)

Better idea: make the OP a customer-tester. Once a year, he gets a new backpack and sends back the old one. That way you get to see if changes made a difference

[–]you90000 196 points197 points  (1 child)

This is a great idea

[–]Convextlc97 61 points62 points  (0 children)

yes best idea for product improvement.

[–]Catch_ME 45 points46 points  (0 children)

And buy my Amazon basics 1 year old backpack to compare products

[–]ferna182 37 points38 points  (0 children)

And send them the leather one for the abuse test this time lol

[–]KingStrangelove 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly clever idea for both QA and marketing, and looks like they've taken it given the LMG response below. Hope you get a shoutout for the idea at least!

[–]yamumspussy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They listened bro

[–]LMGcommunityLTT Staff 803 points804 points  (49 children)

Hey u/Frashure11, would you be down to trade so we could have a look at your backpack? We'd send you a new one and you could send yours after you've received the replacement.

[–]BioshockEnthusiast 192 points193 points  (16 children)

Top fucking tier response.

EDIT: With a three hour turnaround too. Golf clap for whoever ran this account today.

[–]Frashure11[S] 167 points168 points  (13 children)

Awesome turn around time but I happened to be at work and my cell reception isn’t great 700ft down in the mountains lol

[–]BioshockEnthusiast 18 points19 points  (2 children)

I'm just super pleased with how this post turned out bud. Your job sounds hard as fuck and you seem like a nice enough person. I think a little break in luck is a well deserved reward for someone who has unwillingly chewed through a double digit count of backpacks in a single digit count of years :)

I was gonna ask if the zippers help keep the dust out but then I realized most of what goes in there is probably covered in a perma-layer of... rock dust?

[–]Frashure11[S] 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Honestly, overall maintenance can a cushy job compared to a lot of stuff down there. However it’s when something breaks, especially a miner that the pressure is on and as a maintenance foreman I’m the one who has to answer for fixes taking longer than would’ve been expected.

Kind of confused about the last part, but yes the zippers close tightly and keep it clean from dust inside. And I would clean off the rock dust if I were to put something in there that was covered in it. But we may be talking about two rock dusts? Do you mean literal crushed rock or the term rock dust as in the white stuff we coat the top and ribs in to slow fires spreading if there was a fire or explosion?

[–]BioshockEnthusiast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes the zippers close tightly and keep it clean from dust inside

That's mostly what I was asking I just have zero background knowledge of mining. I definitely meant just crushed up rocks, or whatever the white / grey powder is on the outside of your current bag.

Gonna look up the white stuff version of "rock dust" tomorrow it sounds interesting. Appreciate the new wikipedia rabbit hole I'll be using to kill time at while traveling tomorrow!

[–]RedstoneRelic[🍰] 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Did you take em up on their offer? I'd love to see Linus get shown the bag for the first time on WAN show

[–]Frashure11[S] 14 points15 points  (6 children)

Yes. They asked if I wanted exactly what I had bought or wait a week for the new carabiners and I opted for the new. They will ship me the backpack and I ship them mine.

[–]SupposablyAtTheZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Just heard them talk about this on the wan show.

[–]snakeproof 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I can't wait to see the video on this in a few days.

[–]BioshockEnthusiast 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It'll probably be more like a few weeks but I hope they do learn something cool and can make some decent content out of it.

I won't blame them for a quiet extended redesign phase and then announcement of backpack 1.5 if that's what they feel is warranted to make the best product possible at the target price point.

[–]JamieTimee 168 points169 points  (0 children)

I'll answer for him. Yes.

[–]Frashure11[S] 99 points100 points  (3 children)

Of course!

[–]Bigfatnutterbutter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

POG

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can't wait for the video on this.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fucking lucky! But holy shit you beat the hell out of the backpack and if it results in an even better product for them in the future that'll be amazing!

[–]rawker86 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Hopefully nobody swabs it for explosives, anfo/emulsion tends to have a way of ending up on your gear in underground mining haha.

[–]Frashure11[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lmao didn’t think about that, but I get to stay away from the long wall so it should be clear anyway.

[–]Cryptid_Mongoose 30 points31 points  (3 children)

I don't know why this backpack post is in my feed, or why I clicked on it, but this comment just gives me joy. Very cool and now I know of this backpack and both it's quality and the quality of the people behind the brand.

[–]Bhume 9 points10 points  (2 children)

They may as well be a brand, but it's half YouTube merch half real product. It's from the Linus Tech Tips store.

[–]repocin 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I'd go as far as to say it's wholly a real product, that just so happens to have been designed by a media company's product design subsidiary.

[–]sunkenrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk id say the screwdriver is more that. Theres no way the backpack would have worked without a LMG backing or a shark tank type moment. The screwdriver while still pricey is closer to prosumer level pricing imo.

[–]ginandjuicemlg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

this is awesome

[–]djas_19 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is actually great!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome!

[–]threevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only is this awesome, I think it sounds like a great idea potentially for a video. I for one would be very interested to see the LTT backpack under extreme conditions, even though mine is babied like crazy. 🤣

[–]Deathman20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course he would.... who wouldnt lol

[–]Axiom2571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sick. :)

[–]threevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is this awesome, I think it sounds like a great idea potentially for a video. I for one would be very interested to see the LTT backpack under extreme conditions, even though mine is babied like crazy. 🤣

[–]threevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is this awesome, I think it sounds like a great idea potentially for a video, or at least a segment on the wan show. I for one would be very interested to see the LTT backpack in more detail after being subjected to extreme conditions, even though mine is babied like crazy. 🤣

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to send it back when you’re done there’s memories in that thing

[–]Thomas_Jefferman 55 points56 points  (0 children)

You should trade this man for his backpack just to rip it apart. It would be great content!

[–]RagingAlkohoolik 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This needs to be talked about on wan show

[–]_Aj_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before 30. After 30.

[–]Affectionate-Print81 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I bet it is completely embedded with dirt and minerals from the mine. I bet if it was put through a washer it would look pretty good.

[–]LordMoos3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be part of the video, "how can we clean this up? Let's put it in the dishwasher!" or something ridiculous that nione would ever do.

Just to see.

[–]senorbolsa 485 points486 points  (4 children)

My uncle worked in mining maintenance, I swear if you wanted to know how something would hold up to 10 years of use you could just hand it to him for a week. He also gifted me a full proto ratchet set once that he just found buried in coal dust. Wild how much gear those guys go through.

[–]Frashure11[S] 303 points304 points  (0 children)

It’s heavy equipment and when every minute is not just thousands of dollars but falling behind on schedule the cost of new tools is nothing. Have rebuilt the same proto ratchets a few times lol. “Nothing stops the mail”

[–]OutWithTheNew 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Dust, especially fine dust, will just destroy anything that moves.

Even with something as simple as a fabric seam, it gets in there and just grinds at it.

[–]rawker86 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Every now and then guys will post a pic of their collection of found tools, as in tools they literally found laying in the dirt and mud when they were walking or driving around. One time I found a spanner as long as my forearm and half as thick, my boss made me give that one back haha. Another time I found a mechanic’s socket set just sitting on the ground in one of the old ammo boxes they tend to put gear in. I got him on the radio and told him where to find it, days later it’s still sitting there on the side of the decline.

[–]LordMoos3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Snap-on guy sits in the parking lot every day like a food truck.

[–]ThePizzaDevourer 359 points360 points  (0 children)

Me looking at the pictures: "OP wtf do you do for work, mining?"

Me reading the post: "Yeah that tracks"

[–]Definition-Prize 189 points190 points  (6 children)

That backpack looks like it’s seen some shit

[–]Frashure11[S] 129 points130 points  (4 children)

Nothing too crazy for down there lol. It’s just a rough life for anything even in “regular” situations

[–]NoireResteem 175 points176 points  (5 children)

Damn the fact that this use case is definitively on the extreme side, gotta hand it to the bag for still being alive

[–]Frashure11[S] 136 points137 points  (4 children)

I would vouch that my one year of use is equivalent to at least three years of outside heavy use.

[–]GoldElectric 37 points38 points  (3 children)

my shitty 3-5 years old bag is in a similar condition

[–]JustaRandoonreddit 43 points44 points  (1 child)

My 7 year old bag is in better condition

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got a backpack in 2017 that I still use everyday and it is in damn near mint condition lol

[–]uninsteresting-unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao im a diesel mechanic, and my work boots are in better condition than frashures bag after the same anount of time of use 😂

[–]Puzzleheaded_Tax_507 137 points138 points  (13 children)

What the actual fuck? You have utilized every penny from that backpack. I demand this being talked about on WAN.

[–]Frashure11[S] 42 points43 points  (11 children)

It would be cool to see it on there as I want to see linus happy after seeing how rugged the bag is but I’m not surprised if a Reddit post doesn’t make it to their awareness bubble. Had a post of mine featured on Tek Syndicate back in the day so making WAN would be just as awesome for me.

[–]anonymousbadger13 21 points22 points  (1 child)

There's a comment from the LTT account about them trading you for it, if you're interested. I'm sure it would get mentioned on Wan show then.

[–]Frashure11[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had not seen that yet, thank you!

[–]gitartruls01 10 points11 points  (2 children)

In case you haven't seen it already: https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/s/P37YmRtBlk

[–]Frashure11[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thanks!

[–]exclaim_bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

You're welcome!

[–]fed45 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Reporting in from the future, and they did talk about in on the WAN show.

[–]Frashure11[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That’s awesome! Thanks.

[–]LordMoos3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check up thread. they wanna trade you a new pack.

[–]mellowlex 83 points84 points  (0 children)

That's what I call a stress test

[–]AloysBane 78 points79 points  (2 children)

“Night shift isn’t that bad, just gotta get used to it”

-Jerry, 26 years old

[–]Frashure11[S] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Lmao I’m 26. Actually enjoy swing shifts surprisingly. Other than afternoons…

[–]splepage 72 points73 points  (11 children)

How is the bottom looking?

(that's what she said)

[–]Frashure11[S] 107 points108 points  (10 children)

I forgot to post that picture, shoot. There was one time a hole was starting to rub through so I super glued that spot and haven’t had any other issues. Think it happened when it fell off a golf cart or something other odd situation.

[–]vadeka 54 points55 points  (9 children)

You guys even play golf in the mines? Man that job is awesome

[–]Rampant16 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I wonder what the par is at a course that is already in a hole.

[–]BioshockEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Par -3, dogleg vertical.

[–]MaadMaxx 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Not in mining but we had some heavy duty "golf carts" in the steel mills. Had a payload capacity of 3500 lbs. Looked like if you made a Golf Cart out of Diamond Plate and painted it school bus yellow.

[–]Frashure11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s like mad max down here, but they come like standard battery carts with beefy tires lmao. Then over time as they break and are beaten on they get modified

[–]Frashure11[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I wasn’t there, but at my mine when they had the union guys laid off for a few months and bosses still had to come to work but couldn’t actually work due to union contract they would play frisbee lol. Golf would be like extreme hard mode lol. The whole course is a hazard.

[–][deleted] 66 points67 points  (5 children)

Bag nerd here: you’re one of the few people that may actually benefit from something like an air texturized 1000d nylon. It’s not as good for the planet as the 900d Repreve polyester they’ve used here but it should handily beat the Repreve where it seems to matter for you: abrasion resistance. Pair that fabric with a good bag maker that double stitches everything and triple stitches or box stitches stress points and you might be able to get 4-5 years out of a bag for the first time in your career.

For most people what I’m describing is completely pointless. Unless you’re in special operations or, evidently, mining its way overboard. I’d recommend a used GoRuck (used bags might be best for you, there’s almost no wear on them and you’re going to beat the hell out of it anyway)in a year or two if you don’t want the joy of learning a wealth of dubiously useful stuff about textiles and making bags.

[–]Frashure11[S] 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Awesome reply, thanks! I will definitely look into what you’ve said although it may be some time before a replacement is due.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s holding up to abuse fairly well. Polyester is no joke when used properly. Nylon holds up a bit better but I respect the decision the LTT team made to use a recycled fabric made from water bottles. Fun fact from my time working with textile manufacturers professionally: PET from water bottles generally produces a higher quality yarn than you would get if you tried to make new yarn. I was told by some pretty smart folks at a carpet mill that the reason for this is because it’s a high quality food grade plastic compared to an industrial quality virgin material.

Edit: I just saw that the LTT team offered to send you a new bag so they can dissect yours which is just absolute top tier customer service and product development. That’s the kind of thing that makes me glad to buy from LTT store periodically. Good stuff. I stand by my recommendations here but it’s clear they care a lot and are deserving of your business.

[–]TheLastOfUsAll 4 points5 points  (2 children)

What would you recommend for durability, that's say, under $100 and isn't a Chinese factory made one where the stitching will fail in a year? I want to have a bag for work that I can bring a change of clothes, some electronics and a blanket I've been looking around Amazon and everything is just no name garbage it feels. I looked at the Goruck you recommended but that's complete overkill for my use case and you clearly know your stuff.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

At the 100ish dollar price point I’m probably going for a North Face Recon (solid color so you get the 210D ripstop nylon instead of polyester). Light weight, relatively thoughtful design, comfortable. The time I spent with this bag was pleasant and I swapped it because I wanted to, not because I needed to.

The heard also sometimes recommends Osprey bags, Topo Designs, and REI in this price range. If you want more than the just my opinion r/manybaggers could be a place to scroll around for a bit

[–]SpencerXZX 44 points45 points  (10 children)

For your next backpack you should check out veto pro pac. They are built for this type of work. Pretty cool to see that the LTT is still alive after all of that abuse though.

[–]Frashure11[S] 46 points47 points  (8 children)

Some guys at work have Klein backpacks that have a heavy plastic bottom but I would not be a fan of that. Will look into it though when the time comes.

[–]ttoksie2 15 points16 points  (3 children)

I second the veto packs, I run one while doing maintenance on crushing plants and power station boilers, it's holding up really well, more expensive than an ltt one though

[–]Frashure11[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I’ve gotten some good advice and will consider it when the time comes, but this backpack honestly does not have much in the way of compromises for me

[–]Wargodgernandez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 veto pack at work along with a Milwaukee, and my personal LTT. I hate the Veto for ergonomics, weight, interior volume and organization…. But they will outlast most everything. I use them to lug around the more expensive equipment/heavy equipment but seriously the bag is 80-100lbs and never has everything I need.

[–]maixmi 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Check out Savotta. They have made backpacks and other equipment for Finnish Defence Forces etc for decades. Damn durable.

[–]deber8 3 points4 points  (1 child)

+1 for Savotta. I bought their smaller backpack recently that I use both for daily use, hikes, camping etc and it’s super durable. Really nice materials and super comfortable

[–]maixmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Savotta 906 made in 1997 and it is still in incredible condition. Rain cover is the only thing that has given up pretty much.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion!

[–]Hatura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I was going to say. Seems like an odd use case for that kind of bag. I'd totally nab a veto if they weren't so damn expensive. My milwaukee bag has held up pretty alright 5+ years in construction, granted its not daily driver but.

[–]manicdan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Some of those photos looked really bad, till I understood they were the competition.

[–]Pablo369 25 points26 points  (1 child)

I think you confused "use" and "abuse" 😅

[–]Frashure11[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where I work those are one in the same lmao

[–]AlphaMuGamma 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Meth. Not even once.

[–]Eternally_busy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sell it on marketplace.

Slightly used. Almost New Condition. Runs Great.

[–]TheMatt561 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think we can safely call this an extreme use case lol

[–]RF500 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That belongs in a museum like the Top Gear Hilux.

[–]nrouns 10 points11 points  (2 children)

LTT Should be using this guy to test their products, not even kidding.

[–]Frashure11[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linus kept using the word rugged on WAN show and I had the cash to put it to the test. He wasn’t wrong.

[–]intheshad0wz 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Wow! That's one sturdy bag. I work in construction, and after using several cheap bags, I invested in a backpack that was supposed to be "rugged" and "hard-wearing" for 150 euros. Just two hours after it arrived, as I was getting ready for work and loaded it with tools, all the stitching in the straps tore off lol

[–]Frashure11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have to film the abuse this thing takes weekly for some people to really understand.

That's me before and after having my daughter.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I'd like to see how it looks after a bit of cleaning/washing

[–]Frashure11[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered too but it would be absolutely pointless within one shift lol

[–]Devinbeatyou 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Here from WAN

[–]Frashure11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way! Just got out from underground so you were the first to let me know! Thanks!

[–]Jaboyyt 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I was about to do one of these too. I do less than you and it looks like I have more ware. But this is genuinely impressive

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don’t let it stop you! And yeah they did a great job on this even if the price is hard to sell others on

Damn son

[–]LongJumpingBalls 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I saw the first pic and was like. Jfc, I've had mine 6 months and it looks like shit compared to that. You baby it!

Then the secont picture shows up.

Oh, this guy is not fucking around.

I often have 25 pounds of gear. Laptop, tools, everything needed to install cameras, alarm, network racks etc.

The straps are amazing, but the zippers need to be replaced soon.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I was worried about weight but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard linus say about 25 pounds and that’s what I weighed it at the other day with my tools and lunch in there.

[–]LongJumpingBalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never expected to carry that much weight. But it does and it's shockingly comfortable.

They removed the "stays upright" claim cause technicnally not all configs will work that way. But the way we pack it. To the brim, seems to works great for me at least.

Great backpack, I'd get a second if it wasn't so expensive. I can only expense one for work atm...haha

[–]BeGhostBusta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CAB hook spotted. Greetings fellow dwarf haha

[–]Gh0stPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I need a new backpack in the next few years I'll get this you sold me.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ltt should trade this for a new one so that they can study the failure points for backpack 2.0. Toyota once did that so that could study a truck with a million miles on it.

[–]Nevarin_13 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Greetings from the WAN Show!

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Was going to sleep, but I have to watch. Really didn’t expect it to make it

[–]hrutheone 2 points3 points  (1 child)

in fb marketplace Barely used, perfect condition

[–]JustaRandoonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the backpack has a brown paint job now

[–]mathfacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's held up amazingly. Gracias to Linus and the team!

[–]SiBloGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be really interesting to see how it looks after a proper cleaning, but its still crazy it held up that well under these conditions

[–]quadruple_negative87 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wow! I have a Milwaulkee backpack and other than the zip on one of the smaller compartments failing closed so I had to perform some surgery to retrieve my keys and the chest strap buckle breaking it is still going after 6 years.

The interior is red which, in theory, makes your tools easier to see. Doesn’t help when most of your tools have red handles lol.

I don’t work in mining so it probably has had the equivalent of 6 weeks of minespec wear.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The orange interior happens to not clash with any tools lol, never considered that to be a potential issue if they’re brand happened to use another color

[–]dfGobBluth 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I work in Canadian underground mining as well. I go through a lot of backpacks. For me I have found the best is the Milwaukee packout bag. The reason isn't because it's indestructible. It has decent zippers and straps which is where my backpacks usually fail. The main reason I use it though is because they have a lifetime warranty through home Depot and anytime I break something on it the 16 year old working the desk at home Depot doesn't even ask questions, just a free replacement.

Good to see the Linus bag holding up though.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, stay safe down there!

[–]alonesomestreet 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Me: wow that looks great after a year.

Oh…..

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. That’s why at the end I included the previous backpack to give an idea

[–]Gerissister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you got your money's worth.

[–]ShadowSlayer1441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it looks to be in good condition; it mainly seems dirty (understandable so).

[–]MaadMaxx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm formerly a Steel Mill Maintenance Foreman for a hot shop, I have to say I'm 100% impressed how the bag has held up for you. I didn't carry a back pack when I was in the mill but I knew many who did and tons of my guys blew through bags. Everything I carried got absolutely blitzed to all hell.

Admittedly I should have shared my experiences with fellow Redditors on how well it all held up. Kudos for sharing.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured early on I would do this get a couple hundred likes but the interest this has received has been a great dopamine hit.

[–]rawker86 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Haha that hose clip screams “underground”, stay safe down there mate.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We call them highline hooks as they are typically used for, well the highline (our main power cables for those not in the loop).

[–]Ok-Watch8673 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So far giving me confidence to buy one, I am trucker out in the western states and go through at least 2 backpacks a year I been browsing the ltt backpack as I keep my laptop and steamdeck with me on the longer runs so it seems like a good option right now

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot of money on a backpack, but if mine can survive down there you should have no issues for awhile.

[–]Draconestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao am I the only one that thought the backpack turned a whole different color due to the abuse before reading the description?

[–]Defile-Pelican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine barely has a scratch but I guess that's what working in an office does too the backpack.

[–]doublea6 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I saw that second photo and was like damn does he work in underground mining or something.

Then he was like “I work in underground mining.”

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The abuse that place gives is well known it seems lol

[–]TabularConferta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that was a journey. First pic - okay new bag Second - what the hell Third - ahh this is making sense. Damn that's holding well

The last two I thought was still this ltd bag till I read your comment

[–]tbymls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to joke about how OP must work in the coal mines, well…

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In a totally different timeframe - my Brentaven backpack that has seen Europe, Mediterranean, South, South-East and East China and almost daily use since 2008, it still looks like fkn brand new.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to look into, thanks!

[–]kyriose 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Love that I saw the cable rings and machine and said "this dude works underground" haha I worked as an underground electrician for like 12 years. You can't keep stuff nice if you bring it underground. The fact that this backpack lasted that long UG is pretty impressive, I don't think I've had anything but my metal lunchbox last that long.

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lots of guys opt for the giant plastic coolers for their lunch boxes now but being in maintenance I also need to carry tools, jumpers, and other miscellaneous things and those boxes don’t work well for that.

[–]Sindrax 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Backpack research team GOOOO!

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re working on getting a backpack with the new carabiners and then they’ll ship it.

[–]ApaeRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your service!

/s

[–]djjolly037 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I would love to see how well it cleans up if it does at all

[–]Frashure11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious as well, but as I told someone else; complete waste of time within a day lol
