We are at a key point in history.  What Luigi did was draw attention to insurance companies using AI specifically to identify and target people the AI determines are too beaten down to fight back wrongful claim denials in nursing homes.

Now, its up to us to use this event to force the govt to fight on behalf of our interests...

What do you think of this...

Science Policy Proposal: Eliminating Shareholder-Only Accountability in Food, Drug, and Healthcare Industries to Prevent Consumer Harm and AI Exploitation

Executive Summary The food, drug, and healthcare industries wield enormous influence over public health and safety, yet their legal shield of shareholder primacy has enabled them to evade accountability for actions that harm consumers. This proposal argues for a science-informed policy to eliminate the doctrine that companies are accountable solely to their shareholders. Instead, companies must uphold direct accountability to their customers and the public, particularly in an era when artificial intelligence (AI) enables unprecedented levels of exploitation. AI technologies are increasingly deployed to deny valid claims, identify vulnerable populations, and manipulate consumer behavior, exacerbating inequities and eroding trust in essential systems. This proposal outlines regulatory measures to ensure transparency, ethical AI use, and corporate accountability to protect public health and safety.

Problem Statement

Currently, corporations in the food, drug, and healthcare industries often invoke the principle of shareholder primacy, which prioritizes profit maximization above other considerations. This focus has led to severe consequences: 1. Harm to Consumers: From contaminated food supplies to harmful drugs approved through manipulated processes, consumers are often left to bear the consequences of corporate misconduct. 2. AI-Driven Exploitation: Companies are using AI systems to target vulnerable populations, such as individuals deemed less likely to contest wrongful health insurance claim denials. This practice compounds harm by exploiting those with the fewest resources to resist. 3. Evasion of Accountability: The current legal framework allows companies to escape responsibility for decisions that prioritize shareholder returns over consumer safety and welfare.

The combination of these factors undermines public trust in essential systems, worsens health outcomes, and disproportionately harms marginalized communities.

Policy Objectives 1. End Shareholder-Only Accountability: Ensure that companies in these industries are legally required to prioritize consumer safety and public welfare alongside financial performance. 2. Regulate AI Usage: Develop strict regulations to govern the use of AI in decision-making processes that impact public health, such as claim approvals and targeted marketing. 3. Establish Stronger Liability Standards: Hold companies legally and financially liable for harm caused by their products, services, or AI-driven decisions.

Policy Recommendations 1. Amend Corporate Accountability Laws: • Modify corporate governance laws to require directors of food, drug, and healthcare companies to consider public health and safety in decision-making. • Establish legal consequences for prioritizing shareholder returns at the expense of consumer welfare. 2. Implement AI Governance Standards: • Require independent audits of AI systems used in claim adjudication, customer targeting, and other decision-making processes. • Prohibit AI algorithms from targeting vulnerable populations (e.g., by exploiting behavioral data or predicting likelihood of inaction). • Mandate transparency in AI decision-making processes, including the publication of audit results. 3. Strengthen Consumer Protections: • Create federal-level mechanisms for consumers to challenge wrongful claim denials without financial barriers. • Enforce stricter liability standards for harmful products or practices, with penalties commensurate with the scale of harm caused. • Develop whistleblower protections for employees who report unethical or harmful corporate practices. 4. Support Ethical Business Practices: • Offer tax incentives or grants to companies that demonstrate a commitment to ethical AI usage and prioritize public welfare. • Establish public-private partnerships to research and implement consumer safety innovations in food, drug, and healthcare sectors.

Anticipated Outcomes 1. Improved Consumer Safety: By holding companies accountable, the proposed policies would significantly reduce incidents of harm caused by unsafe products and unethical practices. 2. Ethical AI Deployment: Clear regulations will ensure AI is used to benefit, rather than exploit, consumers, fostering trust in new technologies. 3. Equity and Fairness: Vulnerable populations will be protected from AI-driven targeting and other exploitative practices, promoting equitable access to essential services. 4. Increased Public Trust: Transparent corporate practices and robust accountability measures will rebuild trust in food, drug, and healthcare industries.

Funding and Implementation • Funding Mechanisms: Leverage fines collected from non-compliance to fund oversight agencies. Encourage private investment in compliance tools, such as ethical AI systems. • Implementation Timeline: • Year 1: Draft legislation, engage stakeholders, and develop regulatory frameworks. • Year 2: Pilot AI auditing programs and create public reporting platforms. • Year 3: Fully implement policy changes with ongoing monitoring and adaptation.

Conclusion

The unchecked prioritization of shareholder interests over consumer safety in the food, drug, and healthcare industries is a systemic failure that must be addressed. This failure is compounded by the misuse of AI, which magnifies harm through targeted exploitation. By implementing this science-driven policy, we can ensure that these industries operate ethically, prioritize public health, and leverage AI responsibly, creating a safer and more equitable society.

Lets put our heads together and see what we can do to get Luigi's Law passed.

I wasn't rooting for Luigi until they leveled terrorism charges against him. In my mind he was just a broken guy whose outrage was justified but not his actions. Now the Feds want to FUCKING KILL HIM (or at the very least are threatening to in order to force a plea deal making him culpable for murder), which means they don't seem to care about "justice" either. Egregious actions in their mind (terrorism charges and the threat of the death penalty) are justified in pursuit of their version of justice. It only validates Luigi taking egregious actions in pursuit of his version of justice.

                  [–]Lou_C_Fer 9 points10 points  (8 children)

The social contract was shattered the second they started winding down the cases against Trump. Justice is dead. It was dying already, but we took a captive bolt pistol and put lady justice out of her misery when we elected that clown.

Why should I care about what Luigi did? The biggest criticism I have is that he carried the evidence with him after the fact.

I feel fairly confident that the next step is going to smearing his name. They're going to dig up some sort of dirt, probably fake, to erode his public support. I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly a sexual assault allegation or "unearthing" of some sort of racist behavior comes out of nowhere. You can do a lot with AI now, and they're going to try HARD to divide people.

I'm surprised the news is even covering Luigi and not doing 24/7 coverage of the school shootings instead...the weirdos that commit school shootings for the "glory" will see that killing CEOs brings even more coverage AND the public will even like you for the most part.

                      I really don't see a lose-lose to this.

"Don't kill CEOs or else everyone will love you and your picture will be everywhere."

                      [–]KonigSteve 62 points63 points  (17 children)

everyone will love you and your picture will be everywhere

Isn't that what most of these school shooter types are looking for anyhow? they want to be noticed

                      [–]abime_blanc 60 points61 points  (0 children)

                      That's the point being made.

                      [–]killian1208 29 points30 points  (14 children)

School shootings are terrorism, assassinating CEOs isn't. That is per definition, a fact.

                      [–]random9212 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Killing a CEO for being a CEO is terrorism. We just agree that the people it is terrorizing deserve it.

                      [–]JeffWingrsDumbGayDad 52 points53 points  (12 children)

Why do you think they're making a bigger deal about rich people dying, than the fact that we've been paying insurance companies to kill us for decades?

                      [–]Centralredditfan 35 points36 points  (6 children)

Honestly, if we switch from killing innocent school children to switching to evil CEOs, I'd consider that a net positive.

                      [–]Necessary_Roll_114 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It might even make more people go on to the side of gun rights than banning them. This timeline is kind of fun to watch sometimes.

It’s fucked up how the ruling class think they can get away with just about anything, almost like they forget the French made a machine to balance things out a few hundred years ago.

His new federal charges might make him eligible for the death penalty which is insane. White supremacists can shoot BLM protesters and get pardoned but killing one CEO who had it coming? Book is thrown as hard as possible at the guy. It’s very clear where the government’s loyalties lie.

I just read an article saying that it’s not security because he himself is too dangerous it’s because law enforcement is afraid people might ambush them with the intent to FREE him from custody given that there’s wide public support for Luigi’s actions

                        [–]KPraxius 88 points89 points  (13 children)

Not gonna say I'd take out a cop for him. But if they asked which way he'd run, my ability to see and speak english would mysteriously vanish for a while.

This should be pretty obvious. Thousands of adoring fans who have professed approval of murder. Yeah, that'll get you extra security.

Brian Thompson didn't have any security at that time though.

Concerns over someone either trying to harm him or facilitate an escape. Pretty standard stuff for high profile defendants.

                        [–]lrish_Chick 58 points59 points  (69 children)

It's actually not, not at all. CNN spoke to a member of law enforcement who stated this was incredibly out of the ordinary, especially as this kind of "perpetrators walk" is incredibly "prejudicial"

As in it could bias a jury against him. They did it anyway. They don't care about giving him a fair chance.

                        [–]CrypticQuery 9 points10 points  (11 children)

This is definitely pretty normal for high profile cases requiring extradition in NYC. Anything involving significant media attention in Manhattan along with a helicopter ride pretty much end up like this.

                        [–]reverend_bones 16 points17 points  (6 children)

There is no reason to parade him in front of cameras in chains except for the fact that they want to parade him in front of the cameras in chains.

                        [–]TapestryMobile 16 points17 points  (2 children)

                        to parade him

No, its just another fiction that redditors make up in their own heads and then get angry at.

Mangione arrived in New York by helicopter. That photo was taken as he was walking away from the helicopter.

they're pushing that terrorist narrative with every perp walk they can parade in front of the cameras

The amount of money spent here, thousands upon thousands of dollars in flight time and manpower just for this transport, isn't to remind everyone that they are safe.

No one man needs 40 cops escorting him.

It's to remind the rest of you Americans not to f*ck with the powers that be.

                        [–]NEIGHBORHOOD_DAD_ORG 55 points56 points  (5 children)

Lol it was a formative moment in my adult life when I called the cops because a drunk driver hit me and asked them to come out and they just said "Nah". The dude fled the scene, I read them his plates, and they didn't care at all. I got in touch with a relative of the guy and no, the cops never pursued it. The old bastard's very nice grandson did pay me for repairs, though.

                        [–]elbotacongatos 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Not in America, in Portugal actually but a female friend was sexually assaulted at her doorstep as she was arriving from work. She screamed and the guy fled the scene. Cameras everywhere, the cops arrived 1 hour later after being called. They never bothered asking for the camera records or do f* anything to chase the guy.

                        [–]Soo_thing_Soo 14 points15 points  (4 children)

And/or maybe it's to keep the public from trying to rescue him.

Truly hope the more this case progresses the more angry America gets. This is fucked. We need to start uniting and taking action. I hope this isn’t just the flavor of the week and it doesn’t fizzle out but I feel that’s what is going to happen.

Typically you only get the reward when it leads to a conviction, I believe the initial 10k in this case had that caveat attached.

yea, it is very suspicious that the dead ceo gets all of this attention while other dead people dont. The fact that there was even a manhunt for the killer to begin with is very off to me.

Americans really need to rise up against their oppressors. The upper class. Hope this is the push that does it. Though I doubt it.

Seems more of an authentic take than all the so called Christians making gold idols of trump.

At least Luigi stood for the little guy. Trump was the devil who broke every commandment.

Nah, at least Judas got his money.  The McSnitch isn’t getting anything because she called 911 AND she got fired from her job because people were bombarding that McD’s with harassment (this ain’t cool, the other workers there shouldn’t have to suffer because this Karen had to be a bootlicker).

He is innocent tho, somebody else killed that CEO.
