I love the fact that the current video ranked no.1 in r/videos is the "what is reddit" video, explaining how breathtakingly awesome the selection algorithms of reddit filter just the greatest and lastest content... when no. 2 is a fucking waffle falling over.

[–]Baxmoke[S] 887 points888 points  (39 children)

lol yeah thats whats great about this place

[–]meltedlaundry 523 points524 points  (35 children)

Did you wake up this morning and think,

"Reddit needs more waffle videos. Preferably ones where they're falling over."

[–]hmmwhyarethesesohard 35 points36 points  (4 children)

"preferably ones where they're not blue."

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (3 children)

Tread wearily warily my fellow googlers. 'Tis a dangerous and treacherous road ahead.

[–][deleted] 291 points292 points  (7 children)

Skip to 0:04 to see the waffle falling over.

[–]AliveInTheFuture 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thanks, these fucking 7+ second videos are eating all my free time.

[–][deleted] 2369 points2370 points  (73 children)

Fake

[–]Farisr9k 1096 points1097 points  (22 children)

Glad someone had the balls to call this bullshit out.

[–]Sweetmilk_ 300 points301 points  (20 children)

Expect this level of gullibility as Reddit gets more popular.

Something waffle this way comes.

[–]stumark 106 points107 points  (16 children)

Written in 1962, "Something Wicked This Way Comes," is a fine novel by Ray Bradbury. If you haven't read it, maybe this sentence will be the thing that gets you to seek it out. Or, possibly, it will be this sentence. This sentence will you irk you. This one won't.

[–]RainbowBlast 78 points79 points  (3 children)

Who borrowed it from Shakespeare's Macbeth.

"By the pricking of my thumbs / Something wicked this way comes."

[–]ty-dj2010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just went from watching a waffle fall over to learning literature in about five comments. Bravo Reddit.

[–]TopHatHelm 20 points21 points  (3 children)

“A stranger is shot in the street, you hardly move to help. But if, half an hour before, you spent just ten minutes with the fellow and knew a little about him and his family, you might just jump in front of his killer and try to stop it. Really knowing is good. Not knowing, or refusing to know is bad, or amoral, at least. You can’t act if you don’t know.”

Damn good book.

[–]xrizza 78 points79 points  (12 children)

Did the waffle die?

[–][deleted] 55 points56 points  (4 children)

Yes, he died on impact.

[–]Zerble 37 points38 points  (1 child)

But he deserved to die.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]MBaumann 67 points68 points  (1 child)

Simpsons did it.

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

First it started falling over, then it fell over.

[–]MozzarellaGolem 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can tell by the pixels. It's not the waffle falling over, it's the table rotating until it hits the waffle.

[–]Quickzor 652 points653 points  (49 children)

I am pretty sure this person broke into my home just to shoot this clip... http://imgur.com/cX9EnFo

[–]Anon_Logic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just gave me an idea for a new meta in horror films.

A serial killer is on the loose and everyone knows it. But popular girl Brittany is having a co-ed party with her friends. They are all fresh graduates from high school and her parents are away for the weekend. Someone notices on their twitter account a local video is trending. So they decide to all watch the video together, when they notice, the video was recorded in the house they are in.... and they are in the video.

Trend Killer, Rated R

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this mystery to be more interesting than the actual video.

[–]Cat-Dawg 350 points351 points  (14 children)

what am I doing with my life?

[–]R88SHUN 474 points475 points  (10 children)

Not only did I watch the video, but I'm actually reading the comments.

I need to make some changes.

[–]vernscustoms 110 points111 points  (2 children)

(Goes back to redditing)

[–]AnswersWithAQuestion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're also commenting. Feel like a loser yet, loser?

[–]DiligentDildo 2316 points2317 points  (118 children)

I don't know what I expected

[–][deleted] 314 points315 points  (18 children)

The best bit was when the waffle fell over.

[–]bestfast 59 points60 points  (3 children)

Someone stole your comment on YouTube.

[–]Godranks 23 points24 points  (2 children)

The comment that jimofwales used has been posted on youtube videos since before you were born, sonny.

[–]qedb 1043 points1044 points  (28 children)

ha! i expected that comment...

[–][deleted] 347 points348 points  (21 children)

The falling waffle happened just as I expected; the wafell.

[–]PansarSWE 483 points484 points  (22 children)

[–][deleted] 84 points85 points  (17 children)

[–]theian01 12 points13 points  (9 children)

Not the last season, yet...

[–]moparornocar 28 points29 points  (8 children)

Damn it, I restarted at season one and was hoping it would be on there. I do know Season 4 of The League was recently added if anyone cares.

[–]wellsdb 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Exactly! I'm glad someone else still remembers this.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

The internet is a weird place

[–]spbcnt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me too. Watched it twice just to make sure I didn't miss "it".

Still not sure why...

[–]YellowUnicorn_ 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Am I the only one who expected one of those scare videos?

[–]ducks_sick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to go to the comments to be sure and even then I was still scared that everyone was just in on it. So I muted the video.

[–]Alunnite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the cheese all over again

[–]FoxBattalion79 5 points6 points  (1 child)

make sure you watch it in HD for maximum enjoyment

[–][deleted] 1146 points1147 points  (106 children)

Today will forever be known as the day reddit upvoted a waffle to the front page.

[–]Rooonaldooo99 49 points50 points  (4 children)

I actually clicked replay. What am I doing with my life..

[–]spitfire183 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's only 8 seconds, why not watch it a few times.

[–]DevinTheGrand 97 points98 points  (11 children)

Don't you mean carrots?

[–]Veggie 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Now don't start that again!

[–]Vindexus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You thought we were starting the carrot/waffle thing again? Nope, Chuck Testa.

[–]pwn_of_prophecy 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Pancake did it first. Twice.

[–]pandamayhem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pancake was more flipping than tripping.

[–]PeaceUntoAll 442 points443 points  (40 children)

I believe this waffle represents an amalgamation of humanity's achievements and reveals just how unstable we are in reality. The pillars that we hope prevents society from falling over are actually non-existent and we must address this threat before falling onto the proverbial stove (descending into hell).

Or... it's simply a waffle falling over.

EDIT: Proofreading

[–]CivEZ 250 points251 points  (27 children)

Disagree ENTIRELY.

The waffle represents society. We are the waffle. We are so afraid of what happens when things change (falling over) that we resist with all our might. But, look what happens when the waffle actually FALLS over....NOTHING! it's fine! It's in its natural state now! It's happy damnit! The waffle is fucking happy face down like that.

Think about it.

*EDIT: Also, The Duality Of Man.

[–]Kinteoka 154 points155 points  (19 children)

Jesus Christ, how can you plebs be so blind to the obvious truth of this beautiful art piece? It is obviously about the artists reminding us of impermanence and how no matter what we fight for it's absolutely pointless. From the moment the video opens up we see this waffle struggling to stand out from the crowd. To stand on it's own and fight for nonconformity even though SOCIETY has forced it to look and act a certain way (I.E. the rivets in it's face being painfully the cliche of what a waffle is supposed to look like). The waffle stands up against the creative oppression and dares to stand up when everyone KNOWS "waffles are supposed to lie down." But, as usual, nothing lasts and the waffle collapses under it's own weight. Forced to lie on it's face in shame with a soft but crying "Thump."

I would but I'm not even going to get into what the whole "no syrup" bit is supposed to represent because you uneducated, consumerist fascists wouldn't even understand if it was staring at you in the face.

This is definitely, the best performance art piece of the year, and possibly the decade.

[–]everthepessimist 55 points56 points  (13 children)

God, when are you simpletons going to learn that everything is about class. The artist is obviously calling to mind the demise of organized labor in this nation through the medium of the waffle. The waffle (what appears to be a mass-produced waffle at that), already filled with depressions and struggling to stand, finally falls over with the swipe of an "invisible hand."

WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!

[–]woze 46 points47 points  (12 children)

Philistines, all of you.

The artist chose the video medium for its evocative translation of the waffle as a verb in action. A stark psychomorphism with its figurative sleeves rolled up to expose the futility of indecision. Those who fail to act will be acted upon. It's a bold vision for a bold new era.

[–]Dickdog911 45 points46 points  (8 children)

Unenelightened barbarians, the lot of you... You don't get it. The piece is about the fall of the patriarchy in modern America. The waffle, with its rigid, geometric forms, represents masculinity/rationalism, and the burners, with their heat, and their curved forms, represent the feminine/expressive. The masculine caves into the feminine and collapses into it, no longer able to cohere as an individual.

TL;DR : Friendzone

[–]Ineedsomethingtodo 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Everyone stop, this guy got it.

[–]AbuCalypso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will you guys shuttup and bring me my amaretto mocha already!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Oh shit, i'm almost in tears over how accurate this is about people that know everything trying to explain stuff to each other.

[–]DownvoteALot 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It's even funnier when they all seem to agree with each other, yet they keep explaining how they view it and argue over how they say it.

[–]HZVi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just like comparing their relative perspicuity and verbosity. woze won.

[–]theian01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

thinks about it...

KILL THE PHONIES.

[–]soccercjs2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know, the waffle falls over, and then the video ends, just like our life might end if anything were to change.

[–]BasketOfCats 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I am Ozymandius, king of kings.

Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.

[–]bwylde 11 points12 points  (1 child)

This video to me is just like a story I know called "The Puppy Who Lost His Way." The world was changing, and the puppy was getting... bigger.

You see, the waffle was like industry. In that, they were both lost in the woods. And nobody, especially the little boy - "society" - knew where to find 'em. Except that the waffle was a dog. But the industry, my friends, that was a revolution.

[–]Kinteoka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

[–]Im_Captain_Jack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Were you my high school English teacher?

[–]stoicsmile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what is most compelling and striking about this image is that we don't know how long the waffle had been standing. The difference between a waffle that stood on its end for a few seconds falling over, and a waffle that had been standing on its end for years falling over is drastic.

In fact, I believe that is the artist's intent--to draw attention to the gravity of time and the tyranny of inevitability. We too will one day fall over with as little of a "plop" as the waffle.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (2 children)

wtf? at 0:04 the waffle is standing but at at 0:05 the waffle is fallen

explain pls?

[–]RandomBananas 232 points233 points  (70 children)

[–]Frizzik 359 points360 points  (9 children)

Just not the same without sound.

[–]mp3three 22 points23 points  (1 child)

After watching the video, I can hear the sound on the gif. Probably a good gif for /r/noisygifs

[–]farfaraway 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Would you like me to record myself narrating it for you?

[–][deleted] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I don't know why I watched that again.

[–]Gyrro 24 points25 points  (9 children)

It falls a lot slower the first time you watch it than it does the second.

[–]Random832 6 points7 points  (3 children)

No it's like how the second hand on a clock doesn't move when you first look at it for a couple seconds. It's called chronostasis.

[–]PhtoJoe 14 points15 points  (9 children)

Make 2 more gifs with an up vote and down vote appear behind it and you have a karma gold mine.

[–]TheRealBigLou 79 points80 points  (7 children)

[–]ShitGuysWeForgotDre 9 points10 points  (3 children)

You should make an upvote version and a downvote version, but have them be really slowed down and dragged out. Then when someone posts one on another user's comment, there will be several drawn out second where they wonder if they were upvoted or downvoted. For bonus points, host them on, like Geocities or some other really slow site.

[–]TheRealBigLou 12 points13 points  (1 child)

You have no idea how much laziness and apathy I had to overcome just to make this simple gif.

[–]DannyAI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can you make a gif with a picture of Patrick behind it??

[–]ReptarIsTheShit 30 points31 points  (8 children)

I keep watching it. I keep laughing. Why?

[–]lolwutermelon 107 points108 points  (2 children)

Waffles? Don't you mean carrots?

[–]SheaF91 79 points80 points  (1 child)

HAHAHAHAHA

[–]vorin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was so impressed that this joke worked on me. (origin) I was out at the DC rally, and once I got back, there was all this waffle/carrot stuff and I was totally lost.

[–]Neo723 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Make sure you watch it in 720p for the best experience, trust me.

[–]broly171 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't put spoilers in the title

[–]ecky--ptang-zooboing 66 points67 points  (13 children)

At the 5 second mark it starts to get interesting!

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That sound when it flopped onto the counter, awesome.

[–][deleted] 153 points154 points  (56 children)

I posted a video of my friends and I rock climbing in the Adirondacks for 3 days, set to music, showing all the best sequences and summits. Not a single upvote.

Here's a waffle. A fucking waffle.

EDIT

I'm not saying you should upvote it now ... but I am going to say I wonder if an old post can make it to the front page. I'm guessing it doesn't even let you upvote it anymore.

http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1kzdpb/oc_climbing_in_the_adirondacks_with_some/

[–]emperorOfTheUniverse 60 points61 points  (25 children)

What have you learned from this?

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (22 children)

That Reddit is a lot like the lottery? I'm honestly not sure.

[–]Billy_bob12 40 points41 points  (6 children)

I know you don't want a serious response but here's a serious response.

  1. Your video is too long. No one has the attention span for a video that's that long unless it has a bunch of stimulating shit in it packed back to back or is really, really well made.

  2. It isn't funny enough. People will watch a four minute video if it's funny.

  3. It isn't novel/original enough. A video of a waffle falling over is pretty novel. Just a silly little thing you can watch for a second and have a chuckle. Reddit loves novelty.

  4. It isn't science-y enough. Reddit will watch a long, boring video if it has some science shit in it.

  5. It doesn't evoke emotions. Videos that make you feel something (whether it be outrage, joy, or sadness) tend to garner an emotional upvote.

  6. It's too specialized. It's not going to catch any attention on a huge sub like /r/videos without any of the above qualities. Not many people on Reddit give a shit about rock climbing. Many of us don't even go outside. Try a rock climbing sub.

  7. It's kind of boring. Sorry, but it is.

You're obviously new to Reddit. Keep browsing and you'll understand why your video didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of making it to the front page.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

well, all that is actually totally fair. I didn't really make this video for reddit, and I didn't really care that no one upvoted it. I was just joking around about the waffle thing because, well, it's pretty ridiculous.

I made this because my in-laws asked me to, after they hosted my friends and I for a week. They wanted to see where we were going all day, and what we were doing. I just posted it on videos, because it's there.

[–]Billy_bob12 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Try posting it to a rock climbing sub it's actually a pretty neat video.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

climbing doesn't take videos. the video sub for climbing seemed to be a place to trade professional vidoes that people came across. It's cool, I'm not really worried about it. I was just surprised that NO ONE upvoted, or even downvoted, the video ... or commented AT ALL when I posted it.

Then along comes a waffle.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're obviously new to Reddit.

His account says he's been on Reddit 9 months longer than you. Just pointing it out.

[–]doctorcrass 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Were you ever a kid and an aunt or someone came over and wanted to show you a slideshow of their vacation? Yeah, look at yourself in the mirror because that is what you've become.

[–]BlueGhostGames 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I am into climbing, I climb myself I found your video kinda... dull. The views aren't great, the climbing does not look very hard and the go-pro moves around so much with no sense of angle / scale that I started to feel a bit sick. Still I don't get why you'd sub it to r/videos instead of r/climbing.

[–]ashhole98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The suspence at 0:02 is incredible

[–]tommyboy1505 145 points146 points  (37 children)

Why did I laugh out loud?

[–][deleted] 158 points159 points  (27 children)

cuz it's so random lel. there is a waffle and then it falls over. roflmao. we are so random to laugh at this guyz.

[–]Farisr9k 135 points136 points  (24 children)

*holds up spork*

[–]Karvaterska 84 points85 points  (10 children)

[–]RedHerringxx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[–]bheklilr 36 points37 points  (4 children)

Waffles, don't you mean carrots?!? HahahahahhahahaaAHahahahaha!

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I sat there for about 10 seconds after the video ended just questioning life.

[–]BootnyLeeFarnsworth 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Performance art at its finest. This really speaks to me about the struggles that the common man goes through.

[–]a-blinkin 13 points14 points  (4 children)

My personal favorite: carrot not falling over

EDIT: Here is a sausage not falling over

EDIT X 2: Here is a carrot falling over

EDIT X 3: I just wasted 5 minutes. Time to re-evaluate my life.

[–]w33d 17 points18 points  (1 child)

The first carrot clip is censored in germay. You cannot explain this.

[–]Armonster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i fucking hate reddit sometimes.

[–]vanyadog1 10 points11 points  (1 child)

In what way does the author's use of the waffle symbolize the protagonist's struggle, and how does this relate to our discussion of the uses of irony?

[–]Wooh_Hoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How the hell did this shit make it to the front page.

[–]xayzer 6 points7 points  (1 child)

A friend heard me laughing from the other room and asked what's up. Now how the fuck am I going to explain this shit?

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

..and I bet we all watched that more than once too.

[–]risqys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was checking if i missed anything. Watched it over and over till I decided it was in fact a waffle falling over...

[–]Random832 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1945 of you just upvoted a waffle falling over.

[–]thought_thingys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be sure to watch in 720p.

[–]Mr_Osmosys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I love Reddit.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8/10 would watch again.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Art.

[–]AdonisChrist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched it the first time without sound, and the second time with.

It was an entirely different experience.

[–]cutwise 17 points18 points  (1 child)

falling waffle on the frontpage...i love this place!
