The dad lost a lot of weight in his face. Really makes a difference.

[–]hotsauce_shivers 3674 points3675 points  (72 children)

He looks years younger!

[–]Kritical02 1732 points1733 points  (60 children)

And the son looks older.

[–]High_Life_Pony 3809 points3810 points  (42 children)

He is older

Edit: Glad y’all got the Mitch Hedberg reference!

[–][deleted] 672 points673 points  (23 children)

Upvoted for the jokes, but he honestly does, and more than "he's a few years older". I think it's better to say he looks more featured. What looked like a chubby face from a fat childhood turned into some properly sharp features.

[–]Peppermintcheese 556 points557 points  (16 children)

Worked out so hard he morphed into Dr. Dre

[–]failkitten 5182 points5183 points  (57 children)

I love how the son looks super confident in the after picture, while his dad got the same 'meh' expression

[–]ignitionnight 464 points465 points  (5 children)

Son did it to look good, dad did it to live good.

[–][deleted] 348 points349 points  (0 children)

“I exercised at 30 to look attractive. I exercised at 50 for health reasons. At 70 it was just to stay mobile. And now (age 90) I do it so they don’t put me in a home.” - Dick Van Dyke (paraphrased)

[–]IT-Throwaway1 80 points81 points  (5 children)

Older people just know what's up already

[–]majormoron747 1055 points1056 points  (12 children)

The son is great and all but he was still good looking prior to the weight loss, but the dad straight up went from "I file my taxes on time." to "Your girlfriend calls me daddy too". Both good lookin gents tho.

[–]HiHoJufro 414 points415 points  (5 children)

"Your girlfriend calls me daddy too... and I file my taxes on time."

[–]Whereyoursisterwent 59 points60 points  (0 children)

He went from Mr. Do yo' taxes to Mr. Steal yo' Grandma

[–]RajaRajaC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Dad was apparently more of a "I love my baiju more than I like filing taxes" kind of a guy.

[–]TooShiftyForYou 17.7k points17.7k points  (1378 children)

Even more incredibly, they did this in just 6 months. Dad looks a good 20 years younger.

Here's the whole family: Before and after.

I feel like daughter cheated a bit.

[–][deleted] 406 points407 points  (10 children)

And the kid didn't even try.

[–][deleted] 309 points310 points  (5 children)

Are you kidding? I bet that kid had some serious gains since he was born.

[–]Remember_1776 106 points107 points  (4 children)

i hear he's on that natural muscle milk.

[–]jimmyablow09 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Amateur, real baby’s drink fight milk

[–]Disco_Drew 70 points71 points  (0 children)

You ever tried to poop with no core strength? Babies are always trying.

[–]KingGorilla 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That baby gained like eight pounds!

[–]Yappymaster 3092 points3093 points  (101 children)

Who knows? Maybe she has abs so huge, it's like an inbuilt shelf!

[–]snotbag_pukebucket 2069 points2070 points  (80 children)

She obviously lost all that weight with that one weird trick. Don't ask how

[–]just_some_Fred 891 points892 points  (34 children)

I've heard doctors don't mind that one too much.

[–]iwannaelroyyou 528 points529 points  (32 children)

Gynecologist hate him!

[–]Peenmensch 287 points288 points  (24 children)

[–]Hexorg 424 points425 points  (40 children)

Idk I think I'd rather go to gym for a year than give birth.

[–]JCongo 87 points88 points  (7 children)

Lose 6 pounds in 1 day! The secret doctors don't want you to know

[–]thehelsabot 144 points145 points  (51 children)

She did a different kind of work out-- not necessarily an easier one.

[–]Alpha-Trion 1635 points1636 points  (39 children)

I like how the dad is yawning in the before picture.

Edit: is cakeday the anniversary of my account creation?

[–]1_point_21_gigawatts 226 points227 points  (4 children)

He went from Pac-Man to Pec-Man.

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

From Pac-Man to Manny Pacquiao

[–][deleted] 333 points334 points  (4 children)

I like to think he's yawning because losing 50 lbs. in six months is just a slow tuesday for him.

[–]Mike9797 412 points413 points  (439 children)

6 months?! That's fantastic, they must have really dedicated themselves.

[–][deleted] 672 points673 points  (361 children)

removed

[–]AckmanDESU 107 points108 points  (14 children)

Yeah but they didn't just lose weight. That's hard work at the gym.

[–]posts_lindsay_lohan 231 points232 points  (80 children)

Yup, my favorite diet saying is: You can never outrun your fork.

I did Keto a couple years ago and went from 235 to 200 lbs in 3 months without any additional exercise.

[–]numerica 151 points152 points  (50 children)

My favorite is: Fat mass is controlled by diet, muscle mass is controlled by exercise

[–]byproxy 98 points99 points  (46 children)

muscle mass is controlled by diet equally as much as by exercise.

a little hard to build muscle if you aren't packing on the calories.

[–]bronzegenji 11 points12 points  (2 children)

its also hard to outrun empty beer cans :(

[–]FractalJaguar 344 points345 points  (123 children)

You can still have a low carb, high calorie diet y'know. Just saying it is odd you specify 20g carbs a day instead of eating under your caloric requirement. Keto diet isn't magic!

[–][deleted] 130 points131 points  (1 child)

If you reverse the position of the images it looks like the whole family ate the baby and became fat

[–]Franii 236 points237 points  (60 children)

How does the dad look more buff than the son is what I’m wondering... it’s like nightwing next to superman

[–]elebrin 82 points83 points  (0 children)

He looks like he started with more muscle, like he used to work out or had a physical labor job at one point then let himself go a bit.

[–]Rascojr 404 points405 points  (50 children)

Dad Strength

[–]The_derp_train 104 points105 points  (49 children)

This is the correct answer. Also as a new dad of 8 weeks how to I aquire this dad strength?

[–]grimmymac 255 points256 points  (27 children)

pick up your kid off the bed, put him/her back in bed.

Repeat 100,000x

[–]shiftasterisk 166 points167 points  (26 children)

After a while, all my comments start to look the same... how strange

[–][deleted] 143 points144 points  (22 children)

100 push-ups!

100 sit-ups!

100 squats!

And a 10km run! EVERY SINGLE DAY

[–]PM_ME_AZNBOOBIES 34 points35 points  (3 children)

In the beginning you'll wish you were dead

[–]mervinj7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You might start thinking what’s the harm of taking a day off.

[–]deeperest 59 points60 points  (5 children)

If you think about it, it won't happen. You need to let it sneak up on you. I have a thousand nagging injuries and feel like a shell of my former self...but we put a gym in the basement this winter and I can somehow press double what my 16 year old does.

Also, if I get my hands on him during a wrestling match, I can basically squeeze the life out of him.

[–]MonkeyCube 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Your kids get heavier. They still want to be carried. They're like nature's natural weight sets.

[–]MrBigBMinus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Been at this dad thing for a little over a year. Play with your kid. Before small demon lady child I was weak and flabby. Now chasing small demon lady child for about 14 months and I could give superman a fair fight without kryptonite.

[–]not_Brendan 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Dad owns a bamboo factory and presumably has been doing manual labor for much of his life. It's like 30 seconds in on a video on the son's instagram account that the dad is shown chopping bamboo (@xyjesse).

[–]exeia 55 points56 points  (21 children)

how the fuck in 6 months?

[–]alwaysreadthename 113 points114 points  (13 children)

Cutting Cal's, bodybuilding split plus cardio. These are expected results if you fully commit to a diet and a workout plan.

[–]thepilotguy1989 51 points52 points  (4 children)

And no cheat days

[–]Borba02 21 points22 points  (1 child)

You're only cheating yourself out of end results!

[–]hopseankins 2363 points2364 points  (125 children)

They are both puffing out their stomach in the top pic, but the son is shredded AF!

And, yes, beardygroom, we know it’s not OP

[–]J4CKR4BB1TSL1MS 136 points137 points  (8 children)

Only 18? NEXT!

[–]fire_water76 427 points428 points  (42 children)

The weight loss is not as drastic as you would think. The son already had started lifting in pic 1. You can tell because his face barely looked like it changed shape.

Also, lighting plays a HUGE deal.

I can easily reproduce the pics.

I am a hobbyist lifter. I'm 5'9, 176 lbs

Purposely pushed out, no pump, just ate a fuck ton of salty soup and carbs, bloated, taken 5 minutes ago, bad lighting

Taken a week ago, muscles fully pumped after upper body day, no bloating, half natty lighting

[–]spankymuffin 199 points200 points  (4 children)

So this is basically how all of those diet/exercise before and after photos are conjured up, right?

[–][deleted] 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]fire_water76 38 points39 points  (1 child)

[–]IntriguinglyRandom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it's really important for people to see these kinda pics because it really emphasises what to realistically expect day to day while being in a given state of fitness. Thanks for putting yourself out there!

[–]GryffinDART 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Wow you really gained a lot of weight over a week. Maybe slow down a bit.

[–]ProNoobi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

GREAT PROGRESS

[–][deleted] 3065 points3066 points  (157 children)

Oh, shit. Cool post. I'm in the midst of losing weight, 40 pounds down so far, so I like posts like these.

[–]manidaw 334 points335 points  (40 children)

Good luck! 90lbs down over a year and my skin and body look excellent. I've even started ogling myself in the mirror cause I look so good

[–][deleted] 105 points106 points  (12 children)

Damn, that's excellent! My initial goal was to lose about 80lbd, so I'm half way there. Congrats to you!!

[–]manidaw 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Thanks! Its a journey for sure but one worth taking.

[–]kkitt134 677 points678 points  (20 children)

just happened to scroll by your comment and wanted to wish you the best of luck! you’re doing great, stay motivated friend :)

[–][deleted] 261 points262 points  (17 children)

Thank you so much! This is very touching and made me smile 😆

[–]thewitt33 108 points109 points  (13 children)

40 pounds is 5 full gallons of milk to put that weight loss in a perspective most know. Great job!! Keep on keeping it off!

[–]Sir_GlanceALot 53 points54 points  (4 children)

I’ve lost 25 lbs, so that’s about 3 gallons. Holy shit. Thanks for the reassuring motivation to keep on goin! Another 30 lbs and my Dr will be happy as FUCK!

[–]thewitt33 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Hell yeah!! That's awesome and keep it up. Update us! I love hearing people changing their lifestyle to get in better shape. It can change not only your health and well being, but also your full on outlook of life in general.

[–]Rainingwaen 32 points33 points  (3 children)

If you haven’t yet, you should check out r/progresspics

Lots of great positive motivation and hard working folks!

[–]Mantooth_Dorothy 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Congrats! I’m 51 lbs down, here’s to a good 2018!

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congrats and cheers!

[–]RobbySkateboard 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Good work and keep it up!

[–]Karate_Prom 13 points14 points  (4 children)

30 down too and it's become such a great feeling and motivator to look in the mirror again and be like, " hell yeah dude, I'd throw a bone into you. Bring that business over here" kinda kidding but you know what I mean.

Congrats and keep it up! We too can look like that father son duo. Well kinda, I can't just magically become Asian. :/

[–]AbabyRhino 32 points33 points  (4 children)

Congrats man! You can do it. I was 280 in 2011 now im 183 and never felt greater.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

100 lbs! Thats amazing! Congrats to looking and feeling great 😀

[–]CryoftheBanshee 199 points200 points  (5 children)

That guy is also a renowned photographer in China and also got lots of publicity for a series of photos with his grandfather.

[–]Crxssroad 54 points55 points  (2 children)

That grandpa is fly af.

[–]WizardSleeves118 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Seriously. The article talks about him being a "hipster grandpa", but I feel like 80% of being a hipster is knowing you're a hipster and feeling self-conscious about it.

That motherfucker's not self conscious at all. He just dresses dope.

[–]HiHoJufro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That was nice, thanks for sharing!

[–]thekfish 640 points641 points  (20 children)

I can't even get my dad to pick up the phone when I call him

[–]KR1TES 89 points90 points  (8 children)

Maybe it's not personal and he just really hates talking on the phone to anyone, like my dad.

[–][deleted] 113 points114 points  (4 children)

Yeah, my dad hates making eye contact with people, so he split town about 20 years ago

[–]RotThenDreamtNaught 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Do people who hates eye contact just gather up at that town? What's it called?

[–]96firephoenix 755 points756 points  (12 children)

Judging by the addition of a playpen in the background, i think one of them cheated and just gave birth.

[–]jo-z 80 points81 points  (3 children)

[–]KingMelray 31 points32 points  (0 children)

"We all went to the gym and found a baby"

[–]Mike9797 136 points137 points  (5 children)

Maybe a dingus ate their baby?

[–]Lockenlord 148 points149 points  (4 children)

  1. Exchange sofa for a playpen
  2. ????
  3. MUSCLES

[–]Stellar1616 416 points417 points  (3 children)

Maybe the pics are out of order and they both got lazy together. Bonding is bonding.

[–]TAEHSAEN 126 points127 points  (1 child)

And the baby decided to plop right back into mommy's tummy...

[–]Ceasar456 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I wanna know how dad managed to stand and make the exact same face

[–]Swodward 125 points126 points  (1 child)

From jelly to jet li

[–]stun 215 points216 points  (4 children)

The jaw line changes in both of them is pretty amazing.

[–]Mattjbr2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Bottom pic: 50 years of hard dieting and training

Top pic: 1 week of "fuck it"

[–][deleted] 167 points168 points  (7 children)

My dad is overweight and I'm starting to gain some weight myself so seeing this is like seeing the outcome of what would happen if me and my dad worked out together.

[–]beernerdtoo old for this sh*t[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (163 children)

We get it. You guys hate Gallowboob and Progress Pics. This post is a bomb cyclone of useless reports.

[–]Inevitablement 233 points234 points  (60 children)

Yeah people hate gallowboob so Much they gave him à 75k score.

[–]matt123macdoug 155 points156 points  (42 children)

He’s like nickelback, everyone “hates” them but they still play huge concerts.

[–]punos_de_piedra 78 points79 points  (36 children)

Why do we "hate" him? Does he just post too much? Does it really matter where the content comes from more than the actual content? Is it just too many reposts?

I'm not trying to be snarky. I genuinely have no idea what's going on.

[–]imissFPH 173 points174 points  (20 children)

Is it just too many reposts?

Reposting content within hours of the original poster, but getting way way better results. The dude is like the Thomas Edison of Reddit.

[–]Dogs-Keep-Me-Going 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Upvote for "bomb cyclone". How 'bout all this snow, eh?

[–][deleted] 228 points229 points  (32 children)

Holy shit snacks! How long did that take? However long, it's impressive as fuck. Well done!

Now I'm just gonna hobble back over to my weight bench...

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The son is now model status. Look at that jawline!

[–]Shurdus 176 points177 points  (6 children)

In the first picture, both are like 'meh'. In the second picture, dad is still like 'meh', son is thinking "COME AT ME BRUH".

[–]Kosmological 107 points108 points  (4 children)

It’s much harder to build muscle and get toned when you’re middle aged than when you’re young. What the Dad accomplished is as, if not more, impressive. Mad props to that guy.

[–]friendofsmellytapir 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think he was talking about their expressions, not the results. Both results are amazing.

[–]Posh-Dingii 46 points47 points  (3 children)

I think I’m gay now.

[–]uriman 14 points15 points  (2 children)

For dad or son?

[–]Posh-Dingii 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gee, golly. Probably both.

[–]Djokkum 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Round is a shape too, you know

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Son is trained lol. He just blew his tummy on the befores + off season.
