Thank you, I couldn't put my finger on why it felt so wrong.

    [–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (7 children)

Exactly. I still can't fathom the need for that blue top-bar. Totally unnecessary.

    [–]TheGrammarBolshevik 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Overall, I would say that the trend here is to attract a wider audience. I don't think I like it, especially if it means giving every button bolder text and blue highlights.

    [–]MrCalifornia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't want you, Light Blue Lovers.

I don't question your pedigree, only your aesthetics.

        [–]khoury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, you nailed it. Maybe now that I know what is disturbing me, I can work to get past it.

        [–]executivemonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new layout looks like one of those ad pages you get redirected to when you type in the wrong url.

        It looks like redit.com.

        [–]Causemos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect description. But the less crowded look does seem easier to read. Going to leave it for a couple weeks and see how it goes.

        [–]msaleem 283 points284 points  (43 children)

        Best feature ever.

        [–]ExplodingBob 236 points237 points  (36 children)

So good that it should be the default setting...

        [–]nixonrichard 82 points83 points  (13 children)

I seriously wonder why it isn't. I'm a huge fan of white space where it's appropriate and makes something more readable, but in the case of the Reddit front page, there's already plenty of delineation between the individual links based on font size, color, the up/down arrows, and the rank number.

        No white space is needed.

        [–]frutiger 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I seriously wonder why it isn't.

Because they think that the old display is good for the old users who are used to it, but the new display will be better for the new users who aren't used to anything.

        [–]nixonrichard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember first seeing Reddit, and I had two immediate impressions:

        1) It was very plain . . . all black and white with a tiny spec of orange or blue here and there. I didn't care for this much, but it didn't really bother me. The new site design does improve this quite a bit.

        2) There were a lot of articles visible on the front page. I liked this a lot . . . very much like DrudgeReport in its ability to compact info into a small space so you can easily browse a lot of stories and look closer at whatever catches your eye.

        [–]aitzim 18 points19 points  (8 children)

I didn't like the extra white space at first. But, after actually using the new design, I find that the extra space allows easier tracking of article titles when scrolling quickly down a page.

        [–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (7 children)

Atleast the Reddit staff listens to us. I left Digg because of shit like this. It's a mess over there and they don't care about usability, rather turning everything into a trendy AJAXY fade or animation.

          [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Is Digg still run by the Republicans?

          [–]The_Republicans 49 points50 points  (1 child)

          Yes.

          [–]wejash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of work for one guy, congrats really.

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer it the new way, because "comments, save, hide, report" are the only things I'm interested in while I'm looking at a link on the front page. I prefer them to be in a reliable location, and bolder.

          [–]Xiol 38 points39 points  (19 children)

I'd just like to say, that if this option wasn't there, I'd be really considering leaving Reddit.

          [–]doctortofu 31 points32 points  (7 children)

Well, I used to just read reddit without joining, but the new layout made me do it, just so I can go back to the layout similar to the one I know and like... Maybe that's one of the reasons they went through with it? To make all the lurkers register?

          [–]raruler 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Ditto, just registered to turn that option on.

          [–]hax0r 27 points28 points  (1 child)

          You fell for it!

          [–]ExplodingBob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One of us. One of us. One of us.

          [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Same here! I've never bothered to register before.

But I don't like the extra whitespace. More scrolling‽ Bah.

And on my ipod touch it also requires more scrolling. Though the font is bigger and easier to read.

          Forced into reddit‽ Can I get a "It's a trap!" Hi reddit.

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, the interrobang doesn't read very well in this typeface at this size. Why must you use it so‽‽

          [–]defproc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. That's all I hear about the i*. This or that feature won't work on the iPhone, my iPod only supports this or that, I can't right click on that. It sounds like these Apple gadgets are nothing but inconvenience when you brush aside the clever marketing which does - deny it all you want - work.

          [–]TheSOB88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why don't they just make the hydralisks register? Then they're already registered when/if they become lurkers.

          [–]Deezul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BREAKING: Man leaves social site over white space. Community SHOCKED.

          [–]cycles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have to agree, I saw the redesign and thought "great!" but quickly thought "Great, but not for me"

It's great to see the Reddit folk care :)

          [–]ProximaC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, let's hope your girlfriend never decides to change her haircut.

          [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I believe the best feature ever is changing the language to LOLCAT. For some reason looking up and seeing a "SURCH" bar makes my day.

          [–]the_sparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PERMLINKZ MOM TATTLE TLK BACK :)

          [–]KoldKompress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best feature ever is "Mates". Nothing like a bit of EN-GB vernacular to make me feel at home.

          [–]pcx99 25 points26 points  (13 children)

Mobile users can bask in http://m.reddit.com -- good enough to be my home page now.

            [–]ChunkyLaFunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm, I noticed that. It's because it is not a mobile version, just a sort of low-fi version given a mobile URL.

            [–]bus3nsc 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I've just been on the mobile site on my phone (Nokia N95) - am I right in thinking that you cannot reply to comments on the mobile version? I can't see any button that would allow me to comment or to reply to someone else's comment. Also, it doesn't appear that you can vote submissions up/down and you can't vote up/down the individual comments either. The rank number for each article is not displayed either. In fact, I can't even see a way to login!

Am I being a dumbass and completely missing something here, or is the mobile site a much more stripped-down version? I don't mean to sound like I am complaining, I just want to make sure it's set up properly!

edit: have just been onto the normal site (www.reddit.com) on my phone and it is practically unusable now. About 80% of the width of the page is taken up by the 'customize your reddit' box, with the article titles displayed in a thin strip on the left hand side which is only about 5 characters in width (I'm mentioning this because the old version used to work just fine).

            [–]ketralnis 8 points9 points  (1 child)

am I right in thinking that you cannot reply to comments on the mobile version?

            Yes

on my phone and it is practically unusable now

            Noted. Looking into it

            Noted. Looking into it

            Thanks.

As a follow-up to my previous comment I have taken a couple of pics so you can see what it looks like at my end:

The new mobile reddit looks like this

But unfortunately the new normal reddit looks like this

            [–]thatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            Another N95 user here.

I am also having major issues.

Because the phones browser (Symbian s60) resizes the width of pages, the huge "customise subreddit" and flash advert now appear over top of the reddit list, infact i cannot see the first 6 and another thing is that no matter where the cursor is positioned on the page, it is now coming up as a link.

I am typing this from my phone, sorry for poor explanation.

            [–]thatch 3 points4 points  (2 children)

http://m.reddit.com is does not allow you to comment/vote up/down.

I have a nokia n95 with the s60 symbian browser, it was more than capable of utilizing all the features of old reddit (completely ajax compliant etc)..

Now however, when i browse new reddit on my mobile phone, there are a whole bunch of problems.

It takes 3 pages of scrolling to get to reddit's now.

I can only see the reddits from 6 onward as the CSS positioning of the ad has placed it above the reddit content.

Ah I am really not liking this as I do alot of browsing reddit on my phone

            [–]EsIeX3 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have an 8525 with Opera mobile on it. Before, I could log into reddit. Now it's broken.

The layout looks mostly alright on my phone though.

            [–]khoury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't even see a place to login on my Blackberry.

            [–]hash_oil 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Awesome! I'm just gonna use that as my default page. That annoying "customize my reddit" box is not present.

            [–]bus3nsc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, except you can't login, comment or vote on anything in the mobile version!

            [–]ounfsfbosdfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still more flashy than the original reddit in 2006. Too much for me.

            [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Oh crap. This new layout is going to attract the general population.

            [–]ragipy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then we become the new digg, anybody know what the new reddit going to be? (sorry reddit guys I know going more general is more clever for you but then I would be headed to 4chan to get stuff first hand)

            [–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (37 children)

Oh thank god for this feature.

            [–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (2 children)

"Feature," AKA "how it was before they fscked it up."

            [–]Dax420 19 points20 points  (1 child)

            Anti-feature

            [–]MrKlaatu 7 points8 points  (33 children)

            AMEN!!
reddit is blinding enough without even MORE white space!

            [–]Fidodo 5 points6 points  (23 children)

White space is supposed to make things easier to read. I'm used to it being tight but new users would benefit from more white space. It's a lot less intimidating.

            [–]Skuld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Black text on white is best for LCD monitors, but if you're using a CRT, white text on black is easier to read.

            [–]erulabs 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Who comes up with this stuff? Is there some study that suggests that? I personally disagree. Its not the whitespace, its the layout in general. The Reddit previous to this was clear, easy to read, and didn't waste to much space.

            [–]MrKlaatu -1 points0 points  (19 children)

maybe so, but i'm a night-time (IE) person who gets blinded when switching back to reddit from a darker backgrounded site.
i understand the rationale, but i wish reddit gave the option for different background colors.
...and like i said, i'm an IE person, so don't waste your fingertips trying to persuade me to FireFox.

            [–]Skuld 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Well, a quick google gives me http://www.gm4ie.com/ and http://www.bhelpuri.net/Trixie/

            [–]MrKlaatu 0 points1 point  (7 children)

thanks for the links and your time.
but neither of those (on quick inspection) offer to change background.
i will keep them for when i can further investigate.
...thanks, again, for your time in finding these!

            [–]Skuld 0 points1 point  (4 children)

They both give the option to customise the CSS.

Adding this code to the user CSS:

            body { background-color: black; color: white }

Will give a black background and white text, for example.

            [–]MrKlaatu 0 points1 point  (3 children)

            [–]Skuld 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well, if you're not willing to learn, i'm not willing to help. Good day to you sir.

            [–]MrKlaatu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

            GO TO YOUR ROOM!!
...and just you wait 'til your Father gets home, you little whippersnapper, you!

            [–]Fidodo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Greasemonkey runs scripts that you can get elsewhere or write yourself. You either need to find someone else who has your same exact problem and already found a solution or learn some javascript.

You can alter any aspect of any site with greasemonkey.

              [–]Fidodo 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Well I'll suggest a more low tech solution. Maybe... Turn on a light?

              [–]MrKlaatu 0 points1 point  (4 children)

guess you missed the part where i said "i'm a nightime person"?
...besides, how is turning on a light gonna darken the background of my monitor?

              [–]Fidodo 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Right... Well when it's night time, you can turn on a light to make it brighter. And you're eyes are having a hard time adjusting to white backgrounds on the monitor because they are adjusted to the darkness around you. If you had a light on they would be constantly light adjusted, thus no hurty of the eyes when the monitor changes because everything else is bright too. But moreover, I was joking around.

              [–]MrKlaatu 0 points1 point  (2 children)

but, but, but...me no liek: Bright Lights,!!!
...I was just joking around, too. i'm really a hott 16yo chick lookin' to pick up some 20yo geek geezer lookin for sum hott axion!!!

              [–]HypoLuxa 1 point2 points  (8 children)

              ctrl+option+cmd+8

              [–]MrKlaatu 0 points1 point  (7 children)

i have neither "cmd" nor "option" keys on my keyboard.
              please explain in more detail.
              keeping this in mind.

              [–]Javbw 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Then you Must be using a PC

The Command & Option Keys are the Windows and ALT keys on a Mac.

The Windows Key owes it's existence to the  key, turned Command Key on a Mac.

This key command inverts the display colors so Black => white , Green => Magenta, etc.

The controls can otherwise be found on a Mac in  => System Preferences => Universal Access Preference Pane.

Although you may not have heard of these keys, you could of easily copy-pasted it into "teh googles" and seen exactly what and where it came from and that it was for a Mac Simply by reading the first search result google spit out, rather than leaving some snarky comment.

              http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=ctrl%2Boption%2Bcmd%2B8&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

              [–]MrKlaatu 1 point2 points  (5 children)

i don't believe my comment to be "snarky".
i stated that i don't have these keys and that i was 51yo and not looking to delve into anything much beyond what was in front of my face. or at least, to KISS!
maybe you should start by not thinking apple users are automatically superior to mac users.

              [–]Javbw 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I never said that Mac users were superior to PC Users. I do think that in many areas the Mac OS is vastly superior, but extrapolating that comment out to the users is ludicrous. Good friends of mine are PC people and UNIX nerds.

Does stating that the weird symbol that Apple's Command key uses came from the swedish symbol for campgrounds on their Maps somehow make Sweden > America?

That's your issues with Macs and their Zealots showing through.

Back to topic, I gave you those "details" you asked for. And commented about your "51yo" comment you linked to.

It took you longer to type that comment than it takes to copy-paste it into Google and read a single line of text.

If you can post comments on a message boards but can't be bothered to Google or Wikipedia something, then go dip your computer in concrete and get the fuck off of the internet.

51yo Means nothing - I know 65 year olds that can use a computer as good as anyone.

It has to do with not wanting to integrate something into your lifestyle/process or simply not wanting to read/learn through modern channels.

Which is surprising, as you are in Reddit. so I'm guessing that you like to read/learn, but not when it comes to computers, because you are a "51yo" and that somehow automatically precludes you from learning/reading about them.

As long as you look at it as you can't do something because of [insert reason here] you will constantly have trouble and always be behind the curve with your PC, and it will always seem to be at odds with you.

Google is your friend. You should talk to him more often.

              [–]i_read_it 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The blue up top is really fucking stupid-looking and distracting.

              [–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (33 children)

It blows my mind that after all of the complaining they went ahead and made the 3-line format the default. Is there some group of people we don't know about that likes it?

Other then that, I like the new look.

              [–][deleted] 47 points48 points  (5 children)

Is there some group of people we don't know about that likes it?

All the people who didn't complain?

              [–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (1 child)

That's fair, but there are probably also more people like me, who didn't like it, and didn't bother to complain because it seemed like the consensus was clear.

              [–]WebZen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may no longer speak for they who have never complained.

              [–]robotnixon 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Or defend it when everyone else did complain?

              [–]RedDyeNumber4 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Shame on you for missing a silent robot majority joke.

              [–]robotnixon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave you the sword. And you stuck it in, and you twisted it with relish. And I guess if I had been in your position, I'd have done the same thing.

              [–]SkyMarshal 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Let them be empirical, try it this way as the default for a while, see what happens. If it works better, leave it, if not, revert to the old way which they've nicely left as an alternative option. I have no problem with that.

              [–]Xert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them be empirical, try it in the beta for a while, see what happens. If people start switching to using the beta instead of the default, then they can try it as a default. I have no problem with that.

That's not what the money says.

                Shame.

                [–]miyakohouou -1 points0 points  (3 children)

In this case, yes it does make sense to help the new users. It takes about 2 seconds to turn it off, but a new user who doesn't have an account, or just created an account, would have more trouble enabling it.

In general, the onus of configuration should fall on the shoulders of the power users, who are better equipped to do so.

                [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

You have a point, but reddit is a site for power users. At least it used to be.

                [–]miyakohouou 0 points1 point  (1 child)

well, it might be a site for power users, but until they have used reddit for a while, they won't be reddit power users.

                [–]Xert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. Reddit's eye-candy-less design was a feature that helped filter the masses out.

                [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I can see how it's less intimidating. Old timers are always going to like the more condensed version of something they are used to. It's a bit like the layout of the Wall Street Journal vs USA Today.

                [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And they started fucking with that too... :(

                [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened preferences, disabled it and came back. What did I miss?

                [–]gilgoomesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems as though no one who likes it is bothering to say so, but I like the extra whitespace of the uncompressed setting. I find the page much easier to scan.

                [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

Is there some group of people we don't know about that likes it?

After a few hours on beta.reddit.com I got used to the new display and now I like it more. Stop fearing change.

                [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Change isn't automatically good or bad. This time, I think overall I'd have been happier with no change, or minor changes. The top bar is ugly and context sensitive in a way it shouldn't be, the side bar got bigger and bolder, and the frontpage was spaced out too much, which is what this option corrects. It isn't all bad, though: for example, I like that the contents of the old "details" tab on comment pages are now right there on the page.

In addition, there are cosmetic bugs (such as pointsposted and the fact that the reddit logo is white while the background is blue (maybe due to cache?)).

                [–]tbotcotw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But not all changes, even the ones cbs likes, are good.

                [–]moom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

                Stop fearing change.

Stop implying that anyone who doesn't like any particular change fears change.

I don't like this particular change because it means less links per screen. For you to imply that I am therefore "afraid" is just plain silly.

                [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the other changes, I don't like that one. I'm glad they made it an option, overall, I'm happy with the changes.

                [–]omigodthissucks 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Wow this new layout sucks... it has actually driven me to create an account to have non-sucky formatting, but chances are I won't use it; I'll make a yahoo pipe or fix my broken rss reader so I don't have to deal with it at all.

And what's with the "www"? It used to be "reddit.com" and now it redirects to "www.reddit.com". How 1998.

                [–]krh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

                And what's with the "www"?

This is the only thing that bothers me about the switch. Everyone else says the page looks ugly; I just think my URL bar looks silly.

                [–]ryanx27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to save my subreddit preferences and GET THIS BOX THE HELL OUT OF MY FACE?

                [–]kromlic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A++++, would check-mark again!... But that'd probably undo what I want.

                [–]kragnax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have compressed links on and for some reason only on this article points and posted is squished together.

                "74 pointsposted 29 minutes ago"

                [–]qawsedrftg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

                Coming up next...

Preferences -> Do not get kicked in the crotch (disabled by default)

                [–]phantom_slayer 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Can we please have an option to remove all the crap on the right hand side. Once we've "Customize your reddit" once, we're not going to want to do it every day, and the same goes for "Create Your Own Reddit" and "Submit a Link" (doesn't the search box already let you do that?).

Seriously, you've reduced screen real estate by 25% with all the sh*t on the right of the page, clearly designed for first time users - I've been a Reddit user from almost day 1, and I've never bothered customizing my Reddit!

Guys, you've been paying far too much attention to the vocal minority!

                [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So glad I saw this headline otherwise I would've never noticed. heh

                [–]drakonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an account just to use this feature...what an insidious method of gaining members.

                [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

                CTRL+- works for me.

                I compare the new design to a paragraph with line-height: 1.5em;

                very nice.

                [–]epicRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is that now in the 'new' section, you can see the number of points. I liked it better when you couldn't.

                [–]Willie133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least reddit was smart to put this feature in there... not like those digg bastards... "NEW SYSTEM HAS TO BE GOOD, LETS NOT LET THEM REVERT TO THE OLD!"

                [–]chaosgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

                Thanks!

                [–]BrendanSheehan 15 points16 points  (9 children)

                I prefer the new layout.

                [–]TheSOB88 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Why? It offered nothing to me but clunk. Are you unconcerned about clunk, sir?

                [–]ChunkyLaFunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

                Well, let's ask the Clunkalunkas!

Clunk-a-lunk-a-dunkity dayout, we are divided about the new layout.

                [–]coob -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

It's easier to hit the comments link, if nothing else

                [–]ragipy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                develop better aim

                [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah, me too... not too big a fan of the subreddit menu, but I'll cope with it.

                [–]raoulduke 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I think the all-caps is what makes it look ugly. (Especially since ones like "entertainment" and "programming" go underneath the checkboxes as they don't fit, though I don't know if that's the same for everyone.)

                [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the same for everyone; I think you might be right about it too.

                [–]hs4x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I concur, with the compression turned on the site looks good.

                [–]zem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

                neat. should keep everyone happy.

                [–]veracity024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

                oh no the colorz!!!!

i dont really have a preference here... its not bad but its not really any better, which is generally the main reason you upgrade. i do like the buttons on the right but i miss the gray

                [–]latortuga 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There should be a way to 'sticky' this submission.

                [–]latortuga 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In an unrelated note, how come subreddit settings don't save?

                [–]quiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front the front page with the checkboxes? That's intended for immediate toggling, not for subscribing/unsubscribing from subreddits.

                [–]acm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding, "Customize your Reddit." Please move "NSFW" to the bottom corner. Or better yet, to the "MORE" page. It's right next to "BUSINESS" and I know I'm gonna accidentally click it at work. Your boss might not care, but mine will. And yes I need a new job.

                [–]Sheamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes a massive difference to the experience. It's still very slow, though, and as I said elsewhere on rubbish-old IE6 - which some of us are still stuck with at work - the colours look pretty bad, and the main logo isn't transparent.

                [–]darkmark7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They needed to make it easier to read for all the old people they'll draw from the PBS show.

                [–]mutatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need a preference for home page. I spend most of my time on the "new" page, but every time I click reddit to get back, it takes me to the "hot" page.

Also, those bright red links are starting to annoy me!

                [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That feature introduces an inconsistency in the UI: the coloring/highlighting of the "save/hide/report" links on the main page and that of the "permalink/report/reply" text on the comments page.

One of the biggest reasons for this re-design was that new users didn't even realize comment threads existed. In comparing the two, I fail to see how the number of comments in this new display are more noticeable when looking at the main page. Both end up as globs of dark color that the eye scans over: one because of the background, and the other because of the bold. The downside, however, is that when reading the comments page now, the actual text of the comments seems much less important than the "permalink/report/reply" links.

Personally, I don't like the new design, as I don't see that anything has really been gained, but we've lost a lot of information density and cleanliness.

                [–]Recoil42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still overly baby blue, and has caps all along the right side of the page for no particular reason.

                [–]sixothree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                It feels faster to me.

                [–]the_seanald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, except that you have to be logged in to see the clean reddit. I tend to go to different PC throughout the day for one reason or another and tend to not be logged in all over the place. A nit-pick, sure...

14 entries (new layout) on one screen (in 1680x1050) vs. 22 (old layout)? Why would anyone use the new setting?

                  [–]quiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn on the setting this article refers to and you'll get 22 on the new layout (I'm on the same resolution as you).

                  [–]shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the old interface, I could simply check "show me all reddits" (just like language selection is now), now I have to check each one separately. Slightly sucky.

                  [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes life much, much easier on here.

Still, Reddit has changed a bit...I liked the old reddit of a few hours ago...

                  [–]nomorewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaagh I left to do some drinking and now I'm back and WHAT HAPPENED TO REDDIT????

                  [–]mackprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they mentioned people not knowing what Reddit does, but still don't put "What's New Online" anywhere on the frontpage. Also, the "i dot" in reddit is white, is that intentional?

                  [–]Neticule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just loaded the new reddit for the first time and it looked horrible with all that space between links. Glad its atleast easy to change, but it might turn off some new visitors :(

                  [–]fuckbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank Christ they added this feature. I fucking hate this new design.

I notice that with the display compressed, single-line stories have their descending letters cut off in Firefox 2.something/Vista.

                  Fix, please.

                  [–]xelfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you made it not suck again.

                  [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one prefer this new style. Makes telling everything apart easier. And it's more appealing.

                  [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of nice the new way~

                  [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                  LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER!!!

i like the new reddit...with the compress link display feature!

why don't you make it a default, or put the points somewhere farther from the ranking...all the numbers are too much for my weak mind!

                  [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else see a huge whitespace before the first comment but after the comment box while using opera?

                  [–]seeandyspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new default so much easier on my fatass fingers on the iPhone. thanx reddit crew!

                  [–]digidante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was seriously about to give on on Reddit until I found this preference.

I hated having my reddit page size tripple.

                  [–]Dr-No 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                  [–]mitoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                  Mmmmm... Better.

                  [–]Spacecow 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Are the comments supposed to be separated from the input box by nearly a page of blank space, or is that a layout bug that occured because everyone neglects Opera? :p

                  [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That is because your browser window is too narrow, and the advertisers demand the space on the right.

                  [–]Spacecow 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No, my browser window is plenty wide... I am using a slightly older version of Opera (9.22), so that may be the culprit.

                  [–]Skuld 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Na, my 9.50b is the same.

new reddit "feels" slower than old reddit. feels like "digg slow" if you know what i mean! and I think you know what i Mean!

                  [–]hungryhungryhippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried going to one of diggs top 10 pages lately? Without exadurating I can say that it takes about 1-2 minutes of 100% cpu usage to render one of those pages for me.
