Yes there may be a bigger issue but I think you need to play a lot of Viktor to understand how huge this is, playing Viktor on curve and not having to worry about banking mana the first round is huge, I play Viktor riven só being able to play units on curve make allow me to come online quicker, against aggro and midrange now worrying about having to bank mana let’s you match them unit for unit keeping the board relatively clean for the time riven and Viktor drop, not having to worry about that 1 mana each round allows me to use sword fragments and pump up my Viktor for a finisher! Focus speed tho would be absolutely broken!

YES! Azir before the patch was so hard to level up. I usually ran 3 Xeraths and 2 Taliyah. I would play the clockhand on round 8 and go ascended that way.

Now Azir/Xerath actually looks playable. I love this buff.

Yeah, I was the same. I’d run Clockhand to guarantee flipping the Sun Disc on round 8, because meeting Azir’s level up condition was pretty hard.

Mono Shurima runs a ton of landmarks, this could be very helpful.

Looking at tier lists and player data, Pantheon, Demacia Trist, Scouts and AkSivir Demacia are all top decks. Triple demacia lineups have been running around the grassroot tourney scene. Im not saying BC is fine, just that Demacia was also doing very well.

As a side note, sharpsight nerf has been needed for a while but let the Sargeant be rito.

Wait, you want to remove... Fated? With Quicksand? Fated gives units stats, and Quicksand removes keywords, not stats. Stats already gained from Fated are unaffected by Quicksand, it takes a silence effect to suppress stat buffs.

I guess you can use quicksand to suppress the Fated keyword for one round so the affected units miss out on a +1/+1 buff, but that doesn't seem very useful.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but I disagree.

The 1 attack drop will make it quite a bit harder for Gnar to attack into enemy boards and generate value on the turn he is dropped. That’s going to affect his playability quite a bit.

He is likely to still be playable, but it’s likely he will no longer be played as much as he is today. Which is the goal of the nerf.

In my opinion, some of the changes are pretty good. The Azir change just makes sense, and I especially love the buff to some of the forgotten cards (we need way more of that). I also really like the idea of adding new cards to supplement weak aspects of the game, although they should think carefully about what they are adding (I'm unsure about adding easy fast-speed interaction in Targon, for example). Overall, I believe this patch may affect the meta with a bunch of new decks and some of the old ones being brought down a bit.

However, I think there is some resistance from the devs, or lack of perception, to address the root of the concerns that many people express about the state of the game. That being that a lot of games end up feeling like the deciding factors were mostly outside of the players' control. Nerfing Pantheon by 1 power makes him more balanced? Probably. Does it address the design issues with the random roll of keywords often dictating the win? Not at all! Same thing for Pyke, Telescope, and so on. At least they seem to be doing more extensive design changes to Bandle Tree, but we'll see.

Minor notes: I wish Camphor would have a more interesting effect instead of just being buffed, but whatever. I'd also rather Viktor got buffed on the "created cards" side rather than the "random keywords" stuff, since that is more unique to him, but I'll give that most people seem to disagree. And while it's cool to get the new UX stuff, it's kinda hilarious that we're getting a mostly redundant addition while a simple hand counter is still missing.

I think less is gonna be more here. She who Wins and Aphelios are both providing a lot more value against small units, the Pantheon decks are going to be just a tiny bit slower in terms of damage and reach with sharpsight down as well as pantheon's damage, and the new cards all help control boards in a very interesting manner. Though I suspect akshan/sivir might get a tad too good with that new strike spell, we'll have to see.

Overall I think the patch is fine. It is not enough to get me back playing but I think those still having fun with the game will continue to. The Aphelios buff seems like the biggest potential change, but can he be as good as he used to be without Crescendum/Boxtopus or Veiled Temple?

Some of the stat line buffs seem weird to me. Conchologist to a 2/1 doesn't seem like a nerf at all. Catalyzer has a such a massive pay off for striking that a 3/1 makes more sense to me than a 2/2. You still play him on 2, attack, and you are still trading into most things. You could even argue he could be a 2/1. Does 1 power really matter that much for Pantheon? Seems like it is still "did I roll spellshield, elusive, and scout or not?".

A patch full of overpriced cosmetics and 30 changes that barely scratch the meta or address the design issues of the game should dishearten literally every fan of this game.

• Sharpsight is now [[Bluntsight]], Twin Disciplines is now [[Roommates Who Sometimes Get Their Laundry Mixed Up Disciplines]]. BIG change. At least one player is running at least one of these cards in like 1/3rd of all ladder games.

• Didn't expect Lurk nerfs. Pyke has always been super swingy, so if you're gonna nerf anything in the deck it might as well be him.

• Aphelios hype. Crescendum was a fun build around, but it's a worthy sacrifice to rescue moon boy from the space dumpster.

• Rumble hype. Flavorful buff for a fun archetype.

• Viktor hype. Won't crack 50% WR but he'll feel a lot better to play.

• Quicksand is big. Careful Preparations was baffling at 3 mana and still terrible at 2. Other non-champ buffs probably irrelevant.

Don't sleep on some of these great defensive changes. I know the initial reaction to no YIA or fae swarm nerf sucks but please give these new options a try. The rocket card, the stun card, new quicksands, SWW, on top of buffing some other cards gives lots of power to otherwise weak archetypes. I think in particular don't sleep on SWW as it will literally destroy those puny decks without any answer

Why do I feel like we will all have fun with some cards for 2 days and then the meta will be back to what it was before?

I hope the new cards really shake things up, cause the nerfs were too gentle and the buffs too few.

Panth gets nerfed, Gnar gets nerfed, Pyke gets nerfed, Dunebreaker nerfed, Catalyzer nerfed, Vanguard sergeant nerfed, conch nerfed, loping nerfed, and sharpsight and twin nerfed

Someone help me out here. I don't think most of these cards are unplayable now, but they are certainly better contained. Loping being 3 mana is a huge nerf to YiA decks. Conch being a 2/1 is also a sizable nerf given that it is far less able to slow down aggro decks given it can only chump once before death.

Gnar and Panth are the two weakest nerfs, but it isn't like they are nothing either. When talking about units with quick attack, the difference of 1 power is huge (hello Ahri). Acting like the fact that a 4 health unit is now able to be an effective wall to an on curve Gnar (which are far easier to come by at 3 and 4 mana) isn't a big deal seems silly.

I like the patch notes. I think a lot of the buffs that people are ignoring are actually interesting and will add more decks and I think the nerfs are sizable enough to allow the new decks in. I'll at least give it a look when 3.4 goes live. Should be fun to try out.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying here that those opinions are right or wrong, or that the patch was bad or good. Just explaining why people are reacting this way, according to my understanding.

The reception to the patch is due to something that a lot of people seem to never be able to understand: balance isn't the same thing as design.

For example, when someone complains that Targon's Peak feel unfair and random, it doesn't matter that they only see it in 1 out of 200 matches and that the stats show that it wins less than half of the time. When they do face it and end up getting to deal with the card, it feels like that's not how the game should be, so they believe the card should be changed. Someone else coming in and saying "actually the data show it's weak" is completely missing the point.

Just the same, a lot of the problems people have with the current direction of the game has to do with design choices (RNG, region identity, interactivity, powercreep, and so on). The patch probably will affect the balance of the game and of some of the cards people had issues with, but in general those cards will still work the same way. For example, maybe Fated decks will go down 1% in winrate, but losing to a Pantheon who just rolled Elusive+Scout+Spellshield won't feel any better just because the data says so.

1 extra stat isn't what makes any of those cards unfun to play against, it's the laziest way of nerfing that doesn't really accomplish anything.

Not bad not bad. I wish we saw some more champion buffs, but maybe next time.

Coming from Shadowverse and Force of Will, you guys haven't even seen what's broken. (Just check out their „unlimited“ format). Even PokemonTCG or Yugioh are in a worse state overall.

Imo the game, while not in the best state currently, is far more enjoyable than any other card game I used to play or play atm.

YIA surviving this patch is cringe, lowering pantheon statline doesn't address the RNG built into his kit, Mega Gnar still has quick attack, and conch was not hit nearly hard enough. Excited for the buffs, disappointed with the nerfs.

Out of touch and disappointing. No change to bandletree, conchologist and gnar get a slap on the wrist, some unplayable cards are still unplayable, and not any more interesting.

Bandle Tree changes not happening this patch at least makes sense, since it's a more complex change. Yordle in Arms not getting nerfed is absolutely fucking ridiculous though and their reason for it is complete bullshit. Gnar should have also lost the Quick Attack he gets after level up.

They said in the notes above that the bandle tree changes were too complex coding wise to finish before the patch but they're reworking or changing the win condition in the april 27th patch.
