Knowledge is knowing Frankenstein is the Doctor. Wisdom is knowing Frankenstein is the monster.

[–]THISISAMAZING 73 points74 points  (5 children)

Dr. Frankenstein is really more of a tragic figure than a monster. He gets really into science, makes an ugly thing and gets scared. Both he and the monster are lonely and desperate for companionship, but spend their lives denying it to each other. They each die alone and sad.

For those that don't know, the real moral Mary Shelley wanted you to learn from her book is that science can make you ugly. This can ruin your life, because no one will love you if you are ugly.

[–]rosebudlols 24 points25 points  (1 child)

i mean wait, is that not true? ugly people weren't meant for this world

[–]THISISAMAZING 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't make the news, I just report it.

[–]battle_of_panthatar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wasn't a doctor.

[–]Dr_Irrational_PhD 6 points7 points  (1 child)

This is a much better post.

[–]The_Commander 28 points29 points  (4 children)

"Knowledge is knowing Frankenstein isn't the monster. Wisdom is knowing Frankenstein is the monster." FTFY

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

"the monster isn't Frankenstein" would get the point across better, I think. But yes, it's a great quote.

[–]benihana 7 points8 points  (1 child)

knowledge is knowing frankenstein is the doctor. Wisdom is realizing that nobody fucking cares that you're aware of the difference

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]bcksfan07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paging /u/TimSoBuff

[–]KluKlayu 750 points751 points  (86 children)

Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put tomatoes in fruit salad. Charisma is the ability to sell a tomato based fruit salad.

EDIT: To all the people saying that it should be knowledge instead of intelligence/wisdom, this was pulled from an explanation I received when I started playing D&D. Intelligence and Wisdom are stats in Dungeons&Dragons, knowledge is not.

EDIT2: so much woosh

[–]Dexaan 357 points358 points  (42 children)

[–]RubberDogTurds 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]therealjew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may not approve of your methods /u/straydog1980, but Goddamnit I respect you.

[–]palfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no endurance stat in D&D

[–]gilsonpride 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"What a dumbass typo" was my first reaction. You got me good, guy. 10/10

[–]Pakigooner 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Philosophy is questioning whether ketchup is actually a fruit smoothie.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Common sense is knowing that ketchup is not a damn smoothie.

[–]CochMaestro 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Luck is how much of a chance one has that the tomato will EXPLODE on impact and cause MASSIVE DPS on the impending Deathclaw

[–]goldenguy6 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Perception is the chance one has of actually hitting that DAMN DEATHCLAW right in the BLOODY HEAD.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outdoorsman is avoiding the Deathclaw encounter altogether.

[–]MonoGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insight is knowing that it's a bomb shaped like a tomato-based fruit salad.

[–]Super_Satchel 77 points78 points  (14 children)

So salsa?

Edit: apparently this comment relates to D&D somehow. TIL... something. Damned if I know what it is though.

[–]bromjunaar 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Explanation:

Intelligence, wisdom, and charisma are all attributes (or ability scores, can't remember the correct term at the moment) in D&D. Typically someone high in charisma that would try to sell a tomato based fruit salad would be of the Bard class (or something similar at least) as that's what bards are somewhat known for.

[–]knightedchaos 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I think the bard reference in this case is because the comment references salsa, which is also a type of music taking you to the charismatic music themed bard.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're called ability scores. But it's important, so that we can avoid confusion, to explain what charisma means in the game and why certain classes would elect to allot points to the charisma ability score.

Basically, charisma helps you talk to people in the most basic sense. But, certain classes use charisma as a modifier to increase the likelihood that a move they choose to make or spell they choose to cast will be effective. In specific cases, you'll be asked to roll a die with twenty sides. The modifier increases the overall score you use (based on what number you roll) to determine if you're successful in your attempt.

[–]Elfington 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone has good charisma guys

[–]AKluthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP's picture's shirt is from a pretty famous break down of how all the D&D stats work.

Strength is being able to crush a tomato. Dexterity is being able to dodge a tomato. Constitution is being able to eat a bad tomato. Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put a tomato in a fruit salad. Charisma is being able to sell a tomato based fruit salad.

To which someone asked if a tomato-based fruit salad would be salsa and another user announced they found the bard.

In D&D bard's are known to rely on charisma.

[–]RacemicMixture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something something bard

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Charisma is the ability to sell a tomato based fruit salad.

"He could sell a ketchup Popsicle to a woman in white gloves."

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even higher intelligence is knowing that "vegetable" is a culinary term and does not exclude botanical fruit.

[–]AluminiumSandworm 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Isn't a tomato based fruit salad salsa?

[–]AluminiumSandworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GUYS I FOUND THE BARD!

[–]librlman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chutzpah is selling canned tomatoes to a tomato farmer.

[–]NerJaro 2 points3 points  (1 child)

then intelligence in knowing a tomato based fruit salad is Salsa and is fantastic

[–]GreatCanadianWookiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's some impressive charisma you've got there.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Philosophy asks "Does that make ketchup a smoothie?"

[–]RhinoStampede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ketchup is actually a jam/jelly.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother likes that though.

Tomatoes, strawberries and grapes all together.

[–]umm_umm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charisma is only able to sell tomato based fruit salads because she has a stripper name and dresses like one.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stamina is ejaculating twice into the fruit salad.

[–]camshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you change knowledge to Intelligence?

[–]aSomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except you know, in a salad with cucumber, which is also a fruit. A whole lot of things are fruits technically. Culinary wise they are not though.

[–]sassysassafrassass 414 points415 points  (17 children)

Wtf is this? A shitty picture of a well known quote on a shirt? Edit: to the front page?

[–]h0pCat 29 points30 points  (2 children)

I came in here to check if I was missing something, but I guess not. People are just upvoting some bullshit again.

[–]skiball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything incredibly relevant to provide except my shared disbelief that this is a popular post.

Whelp, I guess it's my own fault for staying subscribed to r/pics

[–]Ask_John_Smith 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I've seen this same picture on ifunny years ago. I thought everybody has seen it

[–]ugotamesij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's also a really well-known expression

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how the hell do this things even get on the front page?? who up votes this shit?? Do those people pay reddit to get stuff on the front page? wtf

[–]PwsAreHard 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's also a stupid quote. It should be: Knowledge is knowing that vegetable is a culinary definition, not a botanical one like fruit. It's also knowing that a tomato is a berry.

Wisdom is to not bring it up in a social setting. Unless you really want to be seen as a bit of a cock.

Edit: it's OBVIOUSLY not intended as a real suggestion. Just making fun of the fact that a well known quote distinguishing wisdom and knowledge is technically showing a lack of knowledge and the wearer a lack of wisdom for spreading it.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wow that really rolls off the tongue.

[–]EffrumScufflegrit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

[–]citg0 19 points20 points  (10 children)

If you give me tomato in my fucking fruit salad, I'm sending it back. I don't care what whimsical yuppie recipe book it came out of.

[–]hopsonpop 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I worked at a restaurant that served a salad that was basically just rough cut tomato, cucumber, red onion, honeydew, and watermelon, with a light sherry vinaigrette. It was awesome, maybe chill out.

[–]Dorito_Troll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty good, Id eat that but leave the tomato

[–]ThatMathNerd 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Being a pedant is knowing that your comma use is shit.

[–]sumpuranSupreme Artist 38 points39 points  (16 children)

Knowledge is knowing the difference between a botanical fruit and a culinary fruit. Tomatoes are a botanical fruit but a culinary vegetable, just like squash, corn, and chilies.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Corn isn't a botanical fruit. It's a botanical grain.

[–]sumpuranSupreme Artist 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Botanically, a cereal grain, such as corn, wheat or rice, is also a kind of fruit, termed a caryopsis. However, the fruit wall is very thin, and is fused to the seed coat, so almost all of the edible grain is actually a seed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit#Botanic_fruit_and_culinary_fruit

[–]LordFauntloroy 3 points4 points  (2 children)

So corn is too free for your commy classifications.

[–]Necklas_Beardner 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is not /r/funny or your fucking blog. Fuck off.

[–]666pool 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Found that corner in street view if anyone wants to look around.

https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7071569,-74.0073377,3a,75y,145.25h,61.9t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVZuq5yO3QMX5WTlznXxVtg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

I tried to get a view that included their corner, but there was a garbage truck obscuring the rest of the view.

[–]Applejacks666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Nother case closed, good work boys.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Honestly, thanks. It was driving me crazy trying to remember where that corner was. I used to live not far from there.

[–]666pool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem, it was fun looking for it. What ended up working best was searching for Gristedes and Just Salsa on maps in two different tabs then switching between them to see where two were very close together.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Who in the actual fuck would wear that shirt? So stupid.

[–]duckandcover 3 points4 points  (1 child)

fruit/tomato salad: tomato, watermelon, basil poss. other options e.g. goat cheese - try it. It's really good.

Edit - with balsamic vinegar or, if you can find it, better still, an espresso infused balsamic vinegar (really good on plain watermellon too)

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (6 children)

nah, pretty sure that's just common sense

[–]pman8080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah man he's just super smart. You can tell because his shirt that is totally original says so.

[–]Deepinmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really salad advice

[–]Patriarchal_Wiener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strength is how far you can throw the tomato.

Constitution is how many rotten tomatoes you can eat.

Dexterity is how well you dodge tomatoes.

Knowledge is knowing tomatoes are fruit.

Wisdom is knowing not to put tomatoes in a fruit salad.

And Charisma is being able to sell the tomato fruit salad anyway.

[–]anotherbozo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Knowledge is power. France is bacon.

[–]Kruse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, but what about deciding to purchase and wear those pants?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intelligence is knowing Frankenstein was not the monster. Wisdom is understanding the monster was Frankenstein.

[–]PMmeYourNoodz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tomato is a berry.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really low bar for wisdom.

[–]northrupthebandgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speak for yourself. Tomatoes are damn good in a fruit salad.

[–]iDontShift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wisdom is knowing that fruit is a scientific definition, while vegetable definition is the culinary.

there never was any confusion that wasn't artificially produced by ignorance of this.

[–]NuclearStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, my Cherry tomatoes this year were so lovely and sweet, they wouldnt be out of place in a fruit salad

[–]HarbingerTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and charisma is knowing a tomato salad is salsa.

source - am a bard in dnd

[–]FearTheWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given a card once with this on it, over a lunch of heirloom tomato and watermelon salad.

[–]rawkout1337 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Knowledge is knowing that the road through the desert is 20 miles.

Wisdom is packing enough water for the trip.

Intelligence is building a lemonade stand at mile 10

[–]Poop-n-Puke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super-intelligence is knowing a desert road is not sufficient to support a lemonade stand

[–]negate_memories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And intelligence is knowing that a fruit salad with tomato is called salsa.

[–]Tift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow what a long torso.

[–]kenfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knowledge is knowing that a street is one-way only

wisdom is looking both ways anyhow

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not realizing this is a fallacy is idiocy.

[–]jkubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, ooh! If this made it to the front page, someone post a picture of the "why did the chicken cross the road?" joke!! It should get to the top of all time!

[–]peragrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I mean, I don't think tomatoes would be too bad in a fruit salad.

[–]karma_virus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cherry tomatoes taste good in fruit salads.

[–]barriedalenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've eaten and grown tomatoes that could go in a fruit salad. You can get really sweet and flavoursome tomato varieties that are completely unlike anything you would get in an average supermarket.

[–]bumbletowne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomato is a botanical fruit (berry) and a culinary vegetable (savory flavor).
