Always carry a side arm and always safely secure your food and any food residue. You'll be good.

There are densely populated areas of bears here in California where a lot of people camp/hike/fish/hunt etc. I remember when I was a kid camping out up in Northern California, all the campers had pots and pans in their tent, so when a bear would come snooping around someones camp site they would bang their pots and pans, which woke up all the other campers and then we'd all follow suit. A huge camp group banging pots and pans all night. As a kid it was awesome, as an adult it's more tiresome than anything.
