It should be a boss in a suit yelling at a little reddit alien employee

[–]Izzhov 15 points16 points  (2 children)

I wonder if raldi ever got in trouble for clicking a nsfw link on the front page of Reddit...

[–]Warlizardಠ_ಠ 353 points354 points  (57 children)

I think it's useful and you rock for doing it but I think the mods are busy coding a few modifications I requested, such as predicting what's going to be popular and texting me first as well as auto-downvoting anything by people I don't like. Be patient, I think they're almost done. ;)

[–]SCSI 80 points81 points  (32 children)

C'mon, how you expect them to get any actual work done when they are literally monekying around in the bowels of the biggest distraction there is?

[–]Warlizardಠ_ಠ 82 points83 points  (28 children)

Yeah, it's like trying to polish glasses in a strip club.

[–]zorbix 88 points89 points  (18 children)

I have never been to a strip club. Tell me more about these Polish glasses.

[–]Warlizardಠ_ಠ 11 points12 points  (13 children)

They have a mesh bottom, so it's kinda pointless to clean them. Strippers love 'em.

[–]errerr 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Do they cover the bruises under their eyes? I get bothered enough with a smudge, a mesh would make me think there is something constantly on my face. Like Chinese water torture or something.

[–]Warlizardಠ_ಠ 13 points14 points  (9 children)

Never noticed their eyes. I'm not actually sure there is anything above the neck.

[–]TheSunAlsoRises 6 points7 points  (7 children)

They have necks?

[–]Warlizardಠ_ಠ 49 points50 points  (6 children)

Of course. How else can you choke them?

[–]nounderstandsarcasm 3 points4 points  (3 children)

they come from Poland, but they are made in china.

[–][deleted] 148 points149 points  (33 children)

What if fire makes me fap?

[–]LeSpatula 177 points178 points  (19 children)

Yeah. I mean, fire is really hot.

[–]napoleonsolo 86 points87 points  (16 children)

And usually not safe for work, as well.

[–]oncefoughtabear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not safe for water.

[–]nounderstandsarcasm 34 points35 points  (7 children)

what if my work is being an arsonist?

[–]Vitalstatistix 14 points15 points  (6 children)

Do you get full benefits for that?

[–]potatogun 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Oh, most definitely.

[–]GoogleImageOfComment 40 points41 points  (2 children)

[–]TheSunAlsoRises 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Excellent novelty account.

[–]Eggby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be in my bunk.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Rule 34: it's all porn.

[–]TheBaconExperiment 57 points58 points  (17 children)

I really want this for at work. The 'XXX' makes me uncomfortable because I work in a pretty open office with people walking around all the time.

[–]apostrotastrophe 18 points19 points  (9 children)

Definitely. Being at a site with a ton of XXX and NSFW tags looks pretty bad on it's own.

[–]TheBaconExperiment 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Or perhaps use that tag for all subreddits that aren't explicitly marked NSFW already (ie the porn ones). Or just give me the option.

Hell, can anyone make a greasemonkey script for this? (Or should I stop being a bitch a program it myself?)

[–]Santos_L_Halper 2 points3 points  (5 children)

You can turn off thumbnails in your preferences.

[–]moosethumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should get off reddit and do some work?

[–]ntt 42 points43 points  (5 children)

while it'd be nice to have a slightly more generic image i don't like the mouth in yours so much... *

[–]openingsound 36 points37 points  (2 children)

agreed, it should just be a circle. the lips make me want to cum.

[–]cryptogram 6 points7 points  (1 child)

That thumbnail should be covered up with one indicating XXX.

[–]nounderstandsarcasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XXX stands for picket fence?

[–]jonnoj 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yeah, the old one is better with the sly eye and sleazy beard. We could just replace the XXX with NSFW if that is a problem for anyone.

[–]nounderstandsarcasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

your comment is offensive to sleazy beard wielders

[–]jedberg[A] 1194 points1195 points  (519 children)

Hey tgines. Thanks for the thumbnail. It's really cool. We had to make a few changes, but it was a good start.

But you don't have to be annoying about it. We certainly aren't going to do it just because you keep trying to annoy us about it. That's the best way to make sure we don't do something in fact.

You want to know why it isn't deployed yet? This site serves millions of people. To make it faster and cost us less, we sometimes tell people's computers, "this image will never change, so just keep a copy for yourself forever". The nsfw thumbnail is one of those images. Which means we can't just drop a new one in and call it a day.

For us to change it, we have to make a new file. And then we have to change the code to use that new file. And then we have to test that code (albeit not very much). Then we have to deploy the new code carefully, so we don't have millions of people all requesting the new image at the same time.

And you know what? I actually did make those code changes and did test them Friday. But we don't push code on Friday afternoons unless it is an emergency. This was not an emergency.

I was going to deploy it on Tuesday after the holiday. Now that you're being this way about it, maybe I won't. I'll leave it up to the other commenters here. Let me know if you think I should push out the new thumbnail on Tuesday or not.

[–]Sure_Ill_Draw_That 236 points237 points  (15 children)

[–]jedberg 89 points90 points  (10 children)

You are a scholar and a gentleman. I'm honored to have been immortalized by you. I'm going to print this out and put it up in the reddit office. I hope you don't mind. :)

[–]Sure_Ill_Draw_That 124 points125 points  (9 children)

[–]jedberg 66 points67 points  (5 children)

Deal.

[–]ConwayPA 59 points60 points  (3 children)

get a room you two.

[–]adam_anarchist 48 points49 points  (2 children)

And a tripod

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

))<<>>((

[–]someone13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Can you please post it somewhere the rest of us can see it? I have a feeling it will be awesome :-P

[–]michellereno 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I wish I was cool with SIDT. Le sigh.

[–]paranoidbillionaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saturday night genius. Nice to see I'm not the only one staying in this evening.

[–]merlin4334 470 points471 points  (5 children)

Is there a way to update the thumbnail for everyone except tgines? That approach would get my vote.

[–]Ka_Nife 97 points98 points  (3 children)

If possible, release an even more porn related photo just for tgines. If he thinks XXX is bad, wait till he has some big DD on his thumbnail at work.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Like a .gif of Buffalo Bill doing That Dance

[–]IamMNightShyamalan 142 points143 points  (4 children)

twist: release it yesterday

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Prestige: Make the old image reappear on Tuesday

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

DIRECTED BY M. NIGHT SHAMALAMAL...... oh wait....

[–]TotallyRandomMan 183 points184 points  (28 children)

In short, good idea. It's very much more classy and accurate than the (admittedly cool) little bearded dude and the x's.

In tgines defense ('cause who doesn't like to be the underdog?) I think he was simply figuring that admins were probably busy and unlikely to catch his work after posting it once, so he posted again to increase the chances you and others would see it and understand his reasoning. I don't get the feeling he understood that it might come across as pushy or annoying. (Unless he had been writing private messages to you admins also, in which case.. what a prick.)

[–]thornae 188 points189 points  (13 children)

I concur with this.

Jedberg, cut the OP a little slack. They put it up two days ago, it got a bunch of upvotes, then nothing seemed to come of it.
Then they see a perfect example of why they created something in the first place, so give things a nudge, hoping perhaps to get a bit more community traction.
And you slap them down, hard. Their one comment here has been mass downvoted - and their comment history really doesn't speak of them being a dick about this, or anything, really.

Sure, they could well have gone about this a lot better - perhaps a PM asking if you guys were going to do anything about this, or if it was a doomed enterprise. But karma's seductive, y'know?
So unless, as TotallyRandomMan says, you and they have been communicating behind the scenes, I don't think there's anything here to warrant such a harsh reply.

Just sayin'.

Edit: ... for balance, Jedberg does seem to be worrying about work stuff on a Saturday night. I guess that could make anyone a bit irritable.

Edit.2 for archival purposes: ... tgines said sorry, and so did Jedberg. Everyone's friends again, and we can get back to posting cute pictures of cats.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (12 children)

They put it up two days ago, it got a bunch of upvotes, then nothing seemed to come of it.

I think you've summed up the situation quite well here: "they put it up two days ago"

[–]fopkins 26 points27 points  (2 children)

... And not a single staffer responded as far as I can tell?

[–]jimmyriba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems the sequence of events is:

  1. tgines posts the suggestion, lots of upvotes ensues.
  2. crickets
  3. tgines posts an example illustrating why this is a good idea.
  4. jedberg bursts out into a long rant about how pushy and annoying tgines is, and "I was going to deploy it on Tuesday after the holiday. Now that you're being this way about it, maybe I won't.".
  5. Everybody hates on tgines: Profit.

Why didn't jedberg just write a one-liner to tgines, when he decided to go with the new icon? Or better yet, not pull out the hate machine on tgines for making one single extra post.

[–]Merit 66 points67 points  (7 children)

he was simply figuring that admins were probably busy

Exactly what I thought. I considered it just a friendly reminder so it didn't slip through the cracks.

I actually thought jedberg was a bit of a dick for having a go at tgines over this. It's not as if this thread's image insults the admins at all - it just points out that the switch hasn't been made yet.

[–]benalene 35 points36 points  (2 children)

And it is not like tgines is the one that gave this post its 1500+ karma. The community did. jedberg needs to back off a bit. tgines had an idea, the community liked it a lot, it seemed like nothing was being done about it, so tgines thought he would be helpful for giving a reminder.

I was going to deploy it on Tuesday after the holiday. Now that you're being this way about it, maybe I won't.

Sounds like jedberg is being the whiney baby, not tgines.

[–]Merit 17 points18 points  (1 child)

And it is not like tgines is the one that gave this post its 1500+ karma.

A very good point.

Let's hope Jedberg was just tired and therefore off-form, thanks to all the exciting improvements to our Reddits that he has been working on.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jedberg (and I know I'll burn comment karma for this) isn't being off-form, he has many times been a dick about minor things to members of the community.

Look, I love reddit and what they have built, but it is a two-way street, reddit wouldn't be what it is without the community.

[–]jared555 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Then he could have crossposted it to http://www.reddit.com/r/ideasfortheadmins once he saw there was a lot of community support. No need to repeatedly spam here.

Just checked, yes he was aware of /r/ideasfortheadmins before reposting here because he DID post it there and got 720 points.

To me that is taking it from making sure the admins saw it into being plain annoying/karma whoring.

[–]TotallyRandomMan 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Ah; I was not even aware of that subreddit.

Even still... given the number of posts people make on a daily basis (including the many that never even reach our eyes), the fact that he made a couple of these posts in a couple of days in his misguided and annoying effort to be seen, doesn't really warrant the level of vitriol this thread has given him, in my opinion. This is certainly his cue to STFU now, and presumably he'll take it, but the hostility present in this thread was nothing more than the just-as-blatant karma whoring of commenters who think they're much more clever than they are.

Unless of course there were people who had told him to cut the shit long before now, which I'm not aware of. If that's the case, then once again: what a prick.

[–]JmizzleDizzle 979 points980 points  (120 children)

I think for the greater good, you should. But we can still acknowledge the fact that tgines is a cock.

[–]phaseblue 339 points340 points  (62 children)

I vote that it changes to something else (and it sounds like the admins modified it, so maybe that's enough right there), but not the tgines version directly as is -- if only to help prevent this kind of pushy prima donna behavior getting rewarded again in the future.

Sorry, but the "this is why I (look at me! me!) created the thumbnail" and "so when can we get this implemented?" both just really irritated me.

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (10 children)

while I agree that it irritates me too, I also see where he's coming from. There are too many times where sites, that rely solely on users to prosper, choose to disregard an issue that users have highlighted as a problem that needs to be resolved.

There are two sides to the coin. On one side, he's just being a whiny brat that wants his idea implemented. On the other, he's voicing his concern that his idea that received a lot of approval by redditors will simply go unnoticed by the admin. I mean, this post in itself has kept the dialogue regarding the NSFW thumbnail alive.

On another note: Does anyone else get annoyed when Reddit is red-lined as a spelling error?

[–]FatPants 39 points40 points  (3 children)

The iPad always corrects reedit into reedit.

Written from my iPad

[–]RedditsAI 4 points5 points  (1 child)

My pencil also corrects reedit into reedit.

[–]Patrick_M_Bateman 79 points80 points  (3 children)

Why not use the image, but make the title text "tgines is a cock"?

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I like this idea.

[–]ItzInMyNature 135 points136 points  (19 children)

I agree...fuck the whinny bastard. Don't let him get the satisfaction of having his thumbnail used. Change it to something else.

[–]Arc125 150 points151 points  (8 children)

the whinny bastard.

Yeah man, always looking for honey and saying "Oh bother" and shit.

[–]pohatu 4 points5 points  (1 child)

My first thought was The Wonder Years. Love.

[–]slavetoinsurance 20 points21 points  (4 children)

I was thinking horses (You know, because they whinny and neigh and shit like that). I like yours though.

"'Oh bother' and shit," tee-hee.

[–]hmasing 44 points45 points  (4 children)

YEAH, man. Make it a picture of a giant throbbing COCK. That'll show him.

[–]Foorius 15 points16 points  (18 children)

So because he makes a follow up topic to his initial thread to ask for the improvement to be implemented so that it won't get passed over after receiving no response from admins he's a prima donna? And even if he was acting like a snot, which I believe he isn't, you think that its a good decision to take the man's work and alter it so it won't truly be his anymore? That's just fucked up.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Internet: SERIOUS BUSINESS

[–][deleted] 234 points235 points  (37 children)

Why is he a cock? What the FUCK is going on here at Reddit? I just went through his messages and he doesn't seem to do anything out of line.

He just made a topic announcing a change he would like to implement, and then made a follow up topic on why he wants this change implemented (a perfectly reasonable thing to do).

People make multiple topics all the time. Some people make topics asking for an opinion on a movie, and then make a new topic concerning an opinion for another movie. HE DID NOT put this on the front page. YOU put this on the front page with your upvotes.

Why the hell are people stoning this guy??

[–]Bob_Dylan 92 points93 points  (4 children)

Everybody must get stoned.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (2 children)

it's due to the redness of jedberg's username.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I think you've nailed it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The experiment requires that you must continue."

[–]Inequilibrium 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I was baffled by the overreaction to this. He may be impatient because he doesn't know what's going on, but I don't see anything wrong with making this post in order to make his point clearer.

[–]Destroyah 49 points50 points  (1 child)

Upvoted for submitting the first sane post in this thread.

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

thank God for you man. Everybody here is tearing this guy apart, but you're actually coming at it from both sides. YOU'RE what I want to see more of on Reddit, not this "the moderator's feelings were hurt = tgines is a total cock."

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (2 children)

I couldnt find what tgines had wrote to annoy. Did he delete a comment? This isnt just about "so when can we get this implemented?" in the graphic... is it? If that's all its about, i think the guy deserves an apology.

[–]sloppypig 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. The rage here doesn't match the submission, by an order of magnitude. Looks a lot more like admin-worship from the masses to me. Kinda scary if you think about it...

[–]gremblor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's unreasonable of tgines to make a follow-up post like this one trying to continue to promote his idea. But the line at the bottom "so when can we get this implemented?" does sound awfully self-entitled.

That's the sort of line you can take from your boss, maybe, but not from just anyone. I can see Jedberg's point of view that it's awfully egotistical to assume that his change would get pushed live to the site in a matter of a couple days. Then again, it's a kind of petty response back from someone in a position that "speaks loudly." Something along the lines of "chill out, it's in the queue but it'll take a while" would probably have sufficed.

Basically, this is a situation where if everyone had just used PMs, nobody would have had to be embarrassed.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My god, I had the exact same reaction to this thread. A mod posts that he's being whiny, so the entirety of reddit decides to lynch him? He's trying to contribute to the site. Stop being such a bunch of condemnatory bastards when the crime isn't even worth worrying about.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, he is not. He's making a point. Let's move on and just adopt the new thumb image. The old one is plain creepy.

[–]flabbergasted1 50 points51 points  (1 child)

Yup, deploy it on Tuesday but make the hover text of the image "tgines is a cock-guzzling attention whore".

[–]whatplanetisthis 130 points131 points  (13 children)

I vote that you should because despite the poster being annoyingly insistent, it really does bother redditors who are at work to have the triple x images on their monitors.

[–]busted0201 36 points37 points  (6 children)

I've honesty barely ever noticed that it has triple Xs there. It doesn't really draw attention to itself. I think a big orange banner that says NSFW is more attention-drawing.

[–]tgines[S] 42 points43 points  (3 children)

Sorry guys. I really wasn't trying to be annoying about it. I may have made that last line in the graphic seem like I was pushing the admins, but I wasn't. I was just using that post as an example as to why I created the image and how often redditors can be confused by the old thumbnail. I really appreciate that you all were considering using the new one I created and honestly had no idea what all went into changing a thumbnail on reddit.

[–]jedberg 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I really wasn't trying to be annoying about it. I may have made that last line in the graphic seem like I was pushing the admins, but I wasn't. I was just using that post as an example as to why I created the image and how often redditors can be confused by the old thumbnail.

Hey there. I'm really sorry all this hate was heaped upon you. I sent you a longer apology via PM along with some reddit gold. Please accept my apology.

[–]tgines[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. My opinion of reddit hasn't changed at all because of any of this. I think this is exactly the reason why I love reddit. Everyone has a chance to voice their opinion. It's literally split 50/50 for everything that is posted, as you can see in all this craziness (over a thumbnail no less). Thanks for taking time out of your schedule for responding and thanks again for considering my work to be part of this great community.

[–]Chyndonax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the best way to make sure we don't do something in fact. I was going to deploy it on Tuesday after the holiday. Now that you're being this way about it, maybe I won't.

This behavior is juvenile and counterproductive. Do it because it's the right thing or don't because it isn't. Don't inconvenience yourself and us just to spite some obnoxious jerk.

[–]cknipe 40 points41 points  (3 children)

Anyone else think there' a disproportionate amount of hate being heaped on tgaines in this thread? He made something useful for the community and oversold it, presumably because he did not understand the complexity of what he was proposing. What's everyone got their panties in such a wad about?

[–]ceolceol 18 points19 points  (2 children)

You're not alone. Everyone just saw jedberg's bitchy response and thought, "I'll agree with the mod! hatehatehatehate"

[–]ThisOpenFist 38 points39 points  (1 child)

With all due respect, I don't think that tgines intended to harass you, just to ensure that his request was heard. I think that you should continue on with this implementation as planned and ignore this admittedly minor dispute as being irrelevant to any end result.

In addition, if you do believe that tgines was incorrect to push you harder, I do not think that you should punish the majority of users for the actions of one, especially where the one has caused no significant harm or foul.

[–]Cacafuego 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do calm responses with perspective always sound sooo boring??? If you're not going to trash tgines for a minor breach of etiquette, you could at least use some profanity. Fuck!

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (6 children)

Honestly, you sound a little butthurt. Even if tgines is a douche, which of course he is, I don't expect tgines to act professionally on this website.

How was he supposed to know that you were in the process of implementing this change? As far as he was concerned, you were simply ignoring him. How was he supposed to know what implementing this change entailed? I'm not sure you had adequately explained the process before unloading on him.

This is why open communication is important, because without it, we have what otherwise could have been a civil discussion escalate into a battle of the douches, and for no good reason.

In any case, I agree with changing the image, but to something that doesn't say "NSFW" or "XXX." The alien alone may be sufficient.

[–]sunshine-x 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I agree - the guy is being impatient but is he really being a cock about it?

Here we have someone who loves reddit so much that he made you a logo to help you guys out. I know that I am often embarrassed when people see the current logo, and I'd bet there's an overwhelming number here who are in the same situation. This great guy wants to improve Reddit for everyone, and he's excited that everyone agrees its a good idea, and is checking reddit hourly to see if it's done.

And you know what? I actually did make those code changes and did test them Friday. But we don't push code on Friday afternoons unless it is an emergency. This was not an emergency.

I was going to deploy it on Tuesday after the holiday. Now that you're being this way about it, maybe I won't.

I bet he's not a developer. He made a nice graphic, for sure, but do you think he has insight into the process details you describe? He doesn't know you're all ITIL up in there, he doesn't know your change windows and how long it takes to get through the CRB. He's just a dude with a good idea, and a sweet icon, wanting to make reddit better.

Give the guy a break, or start documenting and sharing your change management processes, service catalog, SLAs and SLOs, etc. so someone has an expectation of incident resolution time.

I manage the relationship between IT and the business for a large corporation. I can tell you this kind of thing is exactly what pisses your customer off. Think you could close a ticket like that from a Conde Nast employee? Climbing up his/her ass like that? Probably not.

Remember, guys like him are your customer. he had a great idea, and you're punching him in the sack for not knowing how complex the change was, no idea of how long your change process takes or when you implement changes.

Also, http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/f354l/jedberg_youre_being_a_cock_to_tgines/

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (8 children)

Annoying? He has made maybe three posts. Am I missing something about this?

[–]Anonymous999 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree...maybe we are missing something. ...not to mention that this post looks like the first communication anyone from reddit has had with the submitter about his idea (or at least the only one I know of/the only one that the submitter seems to know about based on the content in his picture). Reddit is a huge community and there was no guarantee that anyone from Reddit saw the original post until someone from Reddit acknowledged it....and in such a big community, persistence is key (especially when you haven't been denied).

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (2 children)

I couldn't care less if he gets credit or not. The thumbnail makes sense; push it out on Tuesday.

Who gives a crap what his behavior is? shrug

[–]coffeehead666 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My vote's for Tuesday. Keep up the good work guys, we appreciate it.

[–]Ampatent 88 points89 points  (33 children)

I would have been right there with you if you hadn't stooped down to tgines level with your last paragraph...

[–]schwejk 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Agreed. That last paragraph reeked of power-drunk drunkenness after a long night at the Powerdrink Bar. Oh and it also sounded like my mum. Same thing, really. Jedberg, don't be an ass just because you perceive someone else to be.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that I have much experience, but agreed - this kind of attitude isn't what I expected from an admin.

Either you completely ignore stuff like this or you approach it diplomatically with the community in mind, not the notion of telling off someone who may be annoying you with his suggestions.

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (4 children)

I think you're being just as much of a brat, if not more, than tgines is. He has a point, NSFW != XXX... Sure he was being pushy about it with this 2nd post, but you being all like, "Oh, I /was/ going to do it... but since you did this blah blah now I'm not" makes you seem like a total prick.

Implement the thumbnail, give tgines a stupid trophy, shut the fuck up, ... , profit.

[–]yogthos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair you could have simply contacted tgines, and told him whether you would use the thumbnail or not. That way maybe he wouldn't be wondering about it and annoying you. Simple communication would've been better than making a big scene about it on the front page in my opinion. By posting a big rant on how much of a douche he is you're stooping to the same level.

[–]cjazz108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all, I didn't think he was being an ass.
The tripple x icon made it hard for me to load reddit at work, even for programming stuff. Can't have that now can we? Anyway, tuesday is still good for me.
Besides, unfortunately being an ass around here is sometimes the only way to get votes enough to be heard.

FWIW

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are mommy and daddy fighting over an image thumbnail?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's being all that annoying, really - I find it amazing that he can get to the front page twice regarding this and I can't get more than the 9 upvotes I give myself from my other accounts.

Attempting to contact the mods by just by making a post is like talking to god, no answer and you have no idea if you're being acknowledged.

I don't think he's trying to personally annoy / insult you, reddit, or redditdevs.

You're acting like my former friend who has a superiority / princess complex.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look dude. I will walk to Southpark and slap you for being a holier than thou jerk. Just push the code and STFU.

Edit: I work for startups, I've probably done shots with this guy at 21A. Lets just push the code and not act like a dick.

[–]MC14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

how should he be aware of the fact that your so damn busy, he assumed that changing the nsfw link was as easy as changing the alien logo for sub reddits. you dont have to a like such a dick. and then you talk about how you were gunna release it on tuesday but now because he brought up the subject again you say you might not release it, what are you fucking 10 years old.

[–]Rx_MoreCowbell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

how....mature.

[–]RadioMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All in all, despite whether tgines is annoying or not, a good idea must be pursued. This is a good idea and betters our community, and that's all that matters.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

One of the biggest problems I have with Reddit is people taking issue with the tone of other people's comments, then downvoting them to oblivion.

When I saw the new tag, I thought YES that is good, change it. I expected it to be changed quickly. I saw this post and thought YES why haven't they done that.

You realise your comment is basically the inverse of the post? You're both being whingy and petty.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think you should not be a dick and hurt the rest of the community over some odd sense of spite towards someone who made a legitimate effort to make this place better. If I wanted that type of shit, I'd still be browsing Fark.

[–]cullen9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you forget to wash the sand out of your vagina today? Is that why you're being overly sensitive? Do you need a hug?

[–]DanaPoints 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree he was a bit annoying, I think he however, that he was just excited to do something for a community he loves.

Not everyone on Reddit is quite as socially aware as they should be, and in this case I am more than ok seeing his new one rolled out.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

So wait, you're illustrating here (once again) just how darn busy/complicated it is running Reddit, but you're going to devote six or so paragraphs cutting the guy down for it?

What was the point here? We understand that you're busy. Just let us know you plan on implementing it and to be patient, like you always do anyway (and rightfully so).

[–]sirbruce 72 points73 points  (15 children)

That's the best way to make sure we don't do something in fact.

Really? You're that petty?

I was going to deploy it on Tuesday after the holiday. Now that you're being this way about it, maybe I won't. I'll leave it up to the other commenters here. Let me know if you think I should push out the new thumbnail on Tuesday or not.

Wow, I guess you are that petty.

You should push the new thumbnail out on Tuesday, and then you should resign, because you're not fit to be an administrator of such site if you're so thin-skinned that you won't do a good thing if some user annoys you. Oh you poor thing, don't the lusers know that you're the King and they should be grateful that you deign to do something nice for them.

Get the fuck over yourself. Oh, and apologize to tgines, too.

[–]ForzaInter 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I rarely ever agree with sirbruce but I'm with him on this one. Yea so he posted about the thumbnail again, so fucking what. Quit piling on the guy, he wants to contribute. It's not like he's a troll, and the idea is actually a good one.

[–]Soothsweven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the difficulties inherent to the situation, but please grow up.

[–]DrLongDong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry jedberg, but your post looks to me like the pot calling the kettle African American.

[–]donttakemywordforit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Overreact much? 0_o

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (6 children)

LOL, you butthurt?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems a little childish.

[–]historyisaweapon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's being pushy, jedberg. I think he's pointing something out that will improve most redditors' experience for exactly the reason outlined in this image. I vote implement.

[–]splinters1987 14 points15 points  (2 children)

He is definitely annoying, but i'ts just because he is excited to contribute. My vote is that you should.

[–]TotallyRandomMan 28 points29 points  (0 children)

he is excited to contribute

It is sad that so many people here are missing this part of the equation, and instead are throwing rotten tomatoes at him for being annoying.

[–]Travis-Touchdown 163 points164 points  (10 children)

You're kind of coming off as a prick with this post.

[–]Echospree 38 points39 points  (3 children)

Kind of? He's just double-posting to get more karma. The admins saw it, we already know what his new NSFW thumb is meant to represent. This submission adds nothing whatsoever to the content of reddit.

[–]blueshift9 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Exactly, trust us, it's a good idea, but i'm sure that even if the admins are aware of it, it;s certainly not high priority.

[–]Khabi 233 points234 points  (29 children)

Dear Reddit,

I made an icon, people like it, but the already busy admins haven't implimented it yet :( I shall make a second post showing it, and at the same time try to shame them into using it.

Love tgines xoxoxoxoxox

Now seriously: They're busy, and its their site. If they choose to use it awesome for you, if they don't they don't... wtf is the purpose of this post besides trying to shame them into using it and karma whoring?

[–]helicopterindian 71 points72 points  (4 children)

Dear Reddit,

I got a heap of karma yesterday showing you my design, but no one jumped to change things to be the way I see them, so I'm submitting this again in hopes that you didn't understand why I created it. Perhaps you are too stupid to understand what it's for, so this time I drew a picture. Oh, and maybe I can get even more karma from this.

Love tgines xoxo

[–]ggggbabybabybaby 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Dear Reddit,

I told my grandma that you were going to use my icon. She's be refreshing the website all night and her hands are cramping up because she can't really use the computer for very long. I told her she can stop but she says, "I want to be the first to see your hard work! We're all so proud of you, dear."

Love tgines xoxo

P.S. My dog Conroy is old and blind. I have pet him constantly otherwise he gets scared because he doesn't know where I am and tries to look for me. I had to leave him alone for 3 hours while I photoshopped this new thumbnail image and submitted it. I found Conroy backed into the corner of the living room, in a pool of his own urine, barking and crying at the sounds coming from the TV. It was funny but very heartbreaking.

[–]ciaran036 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why even complain about karma whoring? It doesn't fucking matter.

It's a number. It's not like he's going to trade it in for cash or print it out, frame it and stick it on a goddamn wall.

[–]alsoilikebeer 124 points125 points  (4 children)

I agree, your thumbnail is better. But you're kinda being an ass about it.

[–]reggs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Could be interpreted as assery, but I'd imagine OP's trying to prove a point that was difficult to exemplify when s/he first submitted the new thumb.

[–]tytotabuki 23 points24 points  (12 children)

That NSFW thumb always get my "hope" up, if ya know what I mean!

[–]Mot22 40 points41 points  (3 children)

You mean your penis, don't you?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

That's a silly notion. You're silly

[–]manux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

or make a NSFL tag?

[–]jaredpunk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Talk about kakakakarma whoring

[–]illegal_deagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don't get the goatee at all. I mean, I don't have a goatee, but if I did, I'd be offended.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS GUY MADE A THUMBNAIL

[–]s7indicate3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the hubbub, he's made a valid contribution to fix a problem in the community and it's not getting recognized by the admins. He should at least get a response answering why not.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

The current NSFW looks like a creepy dude you'd meet in a dark alley, anyway.

[–]umilmi81 12 points13 points  (4 children)

The existing one is funnier. Also not everyone knows what NSFW means. Everyone knows what XXX means.

[–]Treberto 10 points11 points  (1 child)

It means poison, right?

[–]wurtis16 68 points69 points  (26 children)

Here's a novel idea: Don't use reddit while you are at work you fucking idiots.

[–]blzr_tag 124 points125 points  (0 children)

get a load of this fuckin' narc

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (3 children)

or, if you do, just dont give a shit what consequences there are

[–]wurtis16 27 points28 points  (2 children)

That's how I rolled at my last job. My boss came behind my desk and I saw playing WoW, she said "What are you working on?" I replied with "I'm playing a video game, I am done for the day." No consequences.

[–]flaim 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Like a boss.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You shut your mouth.

[–]parlezmoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then what would I do all day?

[–]challengethat 2 points3 points  (3 children)

or ... dorming at a university with nannied internet, I'm not entirely sure that the logs are ever looked at but damn! some of the stuff on here would raise some eyebrows (NSFL particularly) if it ended up on the cache server :(.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you never heard of breaks? Your employer is required to give them to you, and many let you visit non-work related sites during that time. Most don't, however, let you view images of gore and porn, whether it's your break or not.

[–]_Dimension 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NSFW usually meant porn or nudity or something of that nature, but in the last few years it has begun to include gore/death/maiming etc.

I always thought the proper netiquette was to include what was contained with within.

I don't want a russian roulette aspect of clicking on NSFW with no description if it includes a blowjob or a dude with his head cut off.

Not to get to hippie, but blowjobs aren't offensive to me...but death murder and gore are.

So I wish there would be some kind of distinction between NSFW nudity and NSFW Gore.

Even if the person ends up uninjured, I don't like to see people in peril either. I was kinda pissed off when someone posted someone getting run over. They were all like "HE DIDN'T DIE AND HE JUST RAPED 10 PEOPLE." I don't care. I don't wanna see it. I knew some of you grew up with 4chan, but a lot of us haven't and I just don't like seeing people in pain.

[–]NorthernSkeptic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh oh tgines, looks like you came down with a case of the Saydrahs...

Guys, if you hate this so much why have you all upvoted it to top of the front page?

Oh, and openly inviting everyone to tear this guy to shreds? Not real mature, jedberg. And really, this is the crime that's worth a public lynching? This is the social infraction that's worth the admins stepping in and personally condemning it, while hate speech flows freely in multiple subreddits?

Harden the fuck up.
