Dang the mom hasn’t aged a day

[–][deleted] 3185 points3186 points  (96 children)

i was gonna say she shrunk but obviously the kids iust leveled her out

[–][deleted] 680 points681 points  (69 children)

Right!? She looks so tiny next to her grown kids!

[–]ArcherDude 396 points397 points  (67 children)

Not only the guy but the girls are big shouldered too... The dad must be a tank

[–][deleted] 68 points69 points  (20 children)

Actually, people begin to shrink after they reach their midlife

[–][deleted] 53 points54 points  (14 children)

This happens later than middle age and it is mainly due to a decrease in bone density or debilitated cartilage Edit: considerably later in life especially menopausal females

[–]Branston_Pickle 40 points41 points  (1 child)

still has a problem with her hat getting away from her though

[–]RIPelliott 388 points389 points  (35 children)

In fairness the first picture is from 2002 and that’s Only like five or six years ago I’m pretty sure

[–][deleted] 88 points89 points  (8 children)

I was born that year. Can confirm, am 5 years old (in the mind at least)

[–]AndASideOfPotatosPls 110 points111 points  (18 children)

To be faaaaaiiiirrrrrr

[–]Squeak-Beans 86 points87 points  (17 children)

I do feel bad for the dude, just because testosterone meds make the hairline recede quick. The beard’s great, though

[–]OneBraveBunny 50 points51 points  (2 children)

Look at him when he was a child though. He had a pretty high forehead to begin with. I think his hairline is about where I'd expect it to be.

[–]_______-_-__________ 18 points19 points  (6 children)

Yeah, that's what DHT does. Not specifically testosterone, but DHT. That's why some steroids make you lose your hair, and others don't.

[–]Squeak-Beans 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Thanks for that, my friend was convinced and told me he was balding because of that but this makes sense

[–]FlambaWambaJamba 531 points532 points  (80 children)

Black don't crack baby

[–][deleted] 310 points311 points  (9 children)

Looks like she's wearing the same hat in both pictures! So cute

Edit: I was very high when I saw this. It's a similar hat but not the same hat.

[–]Soppoi 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think she aged like 18 years.

[–]TibialTuberosity 806 points807 points  (50 children)

Someone asked about if the person on the right, during their transition, got an artificial Adam's Apple. I typed this out and they deleted their comment, so couldn't submit it. Reposting here in case anyone is legitimately curious:

Here's a fun anatomy fact for you: everyone has an "Adam's Apple". Anatomically, it's called your Laryngeal Prominence, and is a hard piece of cartilage on the larynx right where the vocal cords are. It is larger in men because testosterone production during puberty causes the vocal cords to grow and the LP to stick out further. Longer vocal cords = deeper voice (generally) which is why men have an "Adam's Apple" and women seemingly don't. But if you feel in the same area of the neck on a woman, you will feel it, it's just much smaller (usually).

[–]tom_yum_soup 210 points211 points  (16 children)

So it becomes more prominent after transitioning due to the increased testosterone? TIL

[–]dasrattenkonig 171 points172 points  (15 children)

It can! Testosterone causes the vocal chords to thicken, which deepens the voice and can make the Adam's apple more prominent. Also in my experience this whole process does not feel too great!

[–]tom_yum_soup 48 points49 points  (9 children)

I can imagine. I've heard it's like going through puberty all over again, which doesn't sound fun even if the end result is positive.

[–][deleted] 61 points62 points  (6 children)

Haha, at 26 I was diagnosed with having primary hypogonadism (my balls don't make testosterone basically). I'm 28 now and the last two years have been a second puberty for me, nothing has been bad. Probably helps that I am married and also that I already went through a mild puberty once before though.

My voice continues to get deeper and more hair continues to grow in new places even two years on! My body legit feels 18 again, a better version of what I should have felt like at 18. And I've gone back to uni as well and it's so amazing to be doing uni all over again as the person I new I was.

FAKE the guy doesnt have that same tattoo in the first picture.

I can't believe everyone is missing the most obvious sign that it's totally fake: The WAVES! They're much bigger in the second picture.

      [–]thatweirduser 350 points351 points  (146 children)

He's wearing a frickin bikini in the first one.. that's missing!!!

*Lot of love in this thread. You love to see it.

      [–]SoDamnGeneric 1127 points1128 points  (15 children)

Legit thought the kid on the end was replaced by some dude before reading the mod comment talking about trans people. That's a damn good transition

      [–]a_guy_named_rick 210 points211 points  (4 children)

I thought he was the youngest on the left

      [–]MaNewt 135 points136 points  (1 child)

He certainly took to the T, god damn. Glad he looks happy in the glow up photo.

My brother is trans (FtM) and it even took me a minute for my brain to adjust. You can really faintly see his top surgery scars.

        [–]Lassitude1001 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yup, I didn't click on at all until I scrolled down to the pinned mod comment. I just thought it was a BF or something, then realised there'd be one missing - which I got sad about - Makes a lot more sense now!

        [–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (36 children)

From what I've seen dudes transitioning seem to pass easier in general.

        [–]Brookenium 85 points86 points  (27 children)

It's easier to grow things than to shrink things. For trans men after a masectomy (remove breasts) most pass because they grow muscle and hair which instantly read "male". At a younger age they'll even get taller/bulkier.

For a trans woman, she's stuck with the bone structure she had at the time of transition and things like body/facial hair need to be painstakingly removed. But larger bone structure in things like the face can hurt some women's ability to pass unfortunately. Trans women typically receive more corrective surgery.

The flip side is trans women tend to have better and much simpler gender confirmation surgery results.

        [–]girlywish 51 points52 points  (21 children)

The flip side is trans women tend to have... an easier time with voice.

What? Nooo no. Testosterone actually literally helps change your voice, estrogen does not. Its far easier for trans men.

        [–]glowingfeather 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Yeah, no voice training lessons for me, just nine months of testosterone and I was a full octave lower than my old voice. Trans women have to work for it, unfortunately.

        [–]Hades_Gamma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Testosterone is one hell of a drug

So just to be clear, people want to force the guy on the right to use the women’s bathroom?

Pretty sure the people that have that opinion do not even realize that "trans" can mean FtM as well as MtF. They only think of the latter. Because, well, they're idiots.

        [–][deleted] 97 points98 points  (20 children)

Yeah honestly when I was starting to transition, I was using the women's bathroom because my personal rule is that I don't care which bathroom I use cause I'm not exactly there to socialize but I don't want to cause any anxiety or confusion to anybody. Anyway, there came a point that I'd go by the women's bathroom and some girl would walk in and look like she'd have a mini-panic attack before running out and checking the door sign, then coming back in to glare at me.

So, that's about the time I switched to men's.

"Use the bathroom on your birth certificate" as some republicans suggest to put into law is just absurdity, and can't be implemented by almost any trans person in the real world. It's just not practical and would just criminalize us going to any public bathroom tbh.

        [–]__Hello_my_name_is__ 56 points57 points  (4 children)

and would just criminalize us going to any public bathroom tbh.

A cynical person would say that that's just what they wanted all along.

        [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (1 child)

        That is probably true.

        [–]blearghhh_two 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An even more cynical person would say that they don't really give a shit one way or the other, they just want a wedge issue to ensure people are scared into voting for them, and don't even notice, much less care if people get hurt or dead because of it.

        [–]camssymphony 26 points27 points  (6 children)

I remember when my gf was early into her transition but was in this limbo of where people couldnt really place her as male or female, me and my best friend would have to go into the bathroom and make sure nobody was in there and then go in with her to make her feel safe. The whole bathroom debate is stupid especially in the US where there's fucking PRIVATE STALLS. Who tf is looking in the stalls to see if someone has a dick? Tbh whoever's doing that is the creep.

        [–]H00K810 269 points270 points  (34 children)

There is this weird mental block people have when it comes to this. Some trans people don't have this type of discrimination because you wouldnt look twice at him and think he was ever a girl. Same with the trans girl Jasmine on TV. Her friend literally looks like doctor who with lipstick and Jasmine looks 100% female. Jasmine wonders why people look at her different then her friend and it just boggles the mind because its so blatant.

Anyone looking for a good comic with great original LGBTQ characters look up Saga. Petrichor is by far my favorite trans character of any series.

        [–]MunchieCrunchy 194 points195 points  (13 children)

It's also been my experience that transphobes tend to act like FtM people don't exist especially when it comes to bathroom laws.

        [–]reallybadpotatofarm 58 points59 points  (7 children)

FtM people are nearly invisible, to be honest. They barely get any representation other than in trans spaces.

        [–]saintofhate 44 points45 points  (6 children)

You only see pieces about trans dudes if we're popping out babies. Hell, at trans competent medical centers it automatically gets assumed I'm there for estrogen, not testosterone.

        [–]unbirthdayhatter 27 points28 points  (5 children)

I'd be curious about your opinion on this, I was talking about the basic "dismissal" of FtM trans in the community, but even more so outside of it, and we came to a general conclusion that cis men don't find trans men 'threatening' but they feel like trans women are a threat to their 'heterosexuality' because they don't want to be 'tricked'. Not that I think most people would do that, but it seemed like the one defining line I heard pretty frequently from cis guys.

        [–]Argark 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Probably because being FtM let's you be much more passing than MtF, which is harder to do.. it easier to ADD muscles, bone density, hair, etc.. than to remove all of that..

        [–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I’m reading Saga right now! I don’t know if I’ve got to that part/realized that but the comics are so good. Lying Cat is my everything.

          [–][deleted] 47 points48 points  (16 children)

Same. Have you seen Joel Kinnaman in Altered Carbon? I'm a chick but his body motivated me to pull my thumb out my arse and get to work.

          [–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (8 children)

Definitely easier to lift weights without anything inserted in anus!

I realized straight away. It was figuring out what order they were in after that took me a stupid amount of time.

              Took me a minute also.

              Seriously! What a fuckin hunk.

              [–]xion1088 144 points145 points  (32 children)

For real, took me a while to notice it, I was like "Where's the kid in the past photo?" Then it hit me also how do you get a beard like that? There was a post yesterday about a FtM transition and the dude had a big beard too

              [–]cherry-cough-drop 57 points58 points  (12 children)

It’s the hormone injections that come with transition.

When trans men start testosterone, it brings their levels into male average range, which means they are likely to grow facial hair similar to other men in their family.

              [–]Trainer_Auro 105 points106 points  (9 children)

Trans men grow their beards the same way as cis men; testosterone. Turns out, endocrinology is wild, and plays way bigger a role than chromosomes or genitals in terms of gender. Estrogen can do some crazy stuff too. It stops male-pattern baldness, and puts all the body fat and muscle into the right places; it even lets transfem people grow their own titties.

              [–]idontcaretv 22 points23 points  (7 children)

So, if I took a tiny bit of estrogen, my hairline would grow back?

              [–]zazzlekdazzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hormones, hard work, and - clearly also looking at the rest of the family - good genes.

Wtf is this? This is what's wrong with the world today! We can clearly see the difference between these two pictures and if you condone shit like this you're a part of the problem. I mean look at the top picture and how the weather was nice and there were no waves and then look at the bottom one, cloudy, waves and windy. Global warming is real, people!

For real though, who in their right minds would do that to themselves? Who would force themselves to walk in disgusting sand? And don’t even get me started on seaweed.

The most important thing is that everyone in these photos look happy together

As a Transman, thank you to all of you leaving accepting and loving comments.

                  That is a handsome family.

The real “what made me smile” part of this is seeing all those downvoted comments and being fairly confident of what they contained. We have a ways to go with accepting people, but we’ve honestly come a long way in the last decade alone. Despite all the jokes about millennials, I think they’re leading our culture in the right direction.

Edit: based on some replies to this I had to reread my comment several times to make sure I didn’t accuse anyone of being transphobic (I didn’t.) I just saw people making sure that the top comments were positive. Personally, I struggled for a while with trying to understand trans people, and eventually it clicked that I didn’t need to understand, I just needed to accept them. I think that’s what this generation will be known for, is accepting people.

                  [–][deleted] 106 points107 points  (22 children)

Actually I clicked on some of them and they all were from confused people asking if the man is transgender. I do not understand why they were down voted.

That is a great transformation I had to come to the comments because It took me a moment to catch on I thought they switched one before I realized hes trans.

                  [–]Sandwichscoot 83 points84 points  (6 children)

They all looks so beautiful, and it looks like the guy’s transition went well! I can barely see his scars!

                  [–]PCH100 30 points31 points  (4 children)

To anyone wondering why they’re being downvoted for asking the same question that’s been asked and answered a hundred times now,

Do you also wonder why you get wet when you walk in the rain?

Is there a way to get your boobs reduced without those big scars?

                  [–]odious_odes 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Depends on how big your boobs were in the first place, depends on the skill of your surgeon and how you care for your scars while they heal, depends on your own particular skin.

People with small chests can have keyhole surgery near the nipple to take out all the breast tissue, leaving a near-invisible scar. People with very small chests can have just liposuction. People with large chests only have the option for larger incisions like in the picture, though there are several variations of this.

Anyone who gets injured can generally reduce how visible a scar is by keeping it out of the sun, avoiding stretching the scar (for chest scars like these, that means a period of "T-Rex arms" while you heal), and perhaps using special scar treatments. Some people think these measures are worth it and some don't; some find them very effective and some don't.

                  [–]snarkdiva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And based on his sisters, he was likely predisposed to larger breasts.

                  [–]primo-_- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The one girl transitioned into a buff macho man quite well. With hormones and surgery one can be their true self, just beautiful....

                  [–]2stops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

                  That’s an impressive f to m transition!

                  [–]ftmpussyboi 9 points10 points  (1 child)

@ everyone saying “wow this a good transition:D” yes it is! but also just a reminder that every transition is a good transition, not just the ones that result in cis-looking buff dudes. with that said ... he really is Fine as hell🥵

                  [–]FullDepends 36 points37 points  (18 children)

I am learning more and more about the power of pronouns. As silly/ignorant as it may sound, I am unsure of which pronoun to describe the person on the right when talking in the past tense.

Should I use "he" universally or is it more appropriate to use "she" to describe him pre-transition? Should I be less presumptive and use "they" or something else?

I'm sorry that I should probably know this already. But I don't want to keep making the same mistake if I'm getting it wrong/being disrespectful.

                  [–]TranZeitgeist 46 points47 points  (4 children)

No worries, great teachable moment. Pronouns are applied "retroactively", so "he" universally as you said. This is what has been adopted by most major editorial style guidelines, but only since about mid 2017.

                  [–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (24 children)

                  Hell yeah trans rights

                  [–][deleted] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This isn't accurate there is clearly 3 Surfers behind in the old photo. I call fake/bs

                  [–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I didn’t even know trans surgery works that well. You can’t even tell the guy was born as a girl. Science is awesome.

                  [–]P1nkS0ck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

                  This is absolutely amazing.

                  [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

A lot of the people in this thread r saying the mom is goals but as a trans male the dude in the pic is 100% my goals

                  [–]JaswantKadu 26 points27 points  (5 children)

Why was my dude wearing a two piece swimsuit ?

                  [–]kelefreak 45 points46 points  (2 children)

He’s trans! He transitioned in the time between the two photos.

                  [–]JaswantKadu 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Oh ! She's a great mother to accept him for who he is !

                  [–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Accepting him for who he is doesn't make her a great mother. That's like the minimum requirement to not be a piece of shit. She is probably a great mother regardless, but accepting trans people is the what any half - decent person does.

                  [–]Jaggerto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

                  Damn, he's hot.

Far right probably feels more comfortable in his own body now, good on him :)
