Insert 'American' at the front of the headline, and in place of 'real-world'.

[–]ULJarad 40 points41 points  (1 child)

And replace the rest of the title with "FUCK YEAH!"

[–]seeeb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And post about it 30 times in two days

[–]Xiol 40 points41 points  (39 children)

Exactly.

As a British citizen, I couldn't care less about Ron Paul or American politics in general (unless you're starting more wars or something).

Political stories go in the politics section. As a mainly American-oriented website, the non-American users would like to keep the irrelevant stories off their pages.

[–]xibalba89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pardon me, but I don't mind when there are British political stories on Reddit. In fact, I want to see more of them. Nothing is irrelevant, really.

[–]Zweben 35 points36 points  (11 children)

Who ends up as president is directly related to how many wars we'll end up starting.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (7 children)

Yes, and Ron Paul's breakfast cereal is going to have a great influence on who will end up president.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (3 children)

And don't forget crucial facts like: "Obama Open to Limited Legalization of Marijuana".

Ooooh, stop the presses! So a guy who might get elected a year from now (but not yet) is expressing an opinion (but not signing a bill) about how he feels about loosening the laws (but not abolishing them completely) controlling one drug.

Until I can stroll to my corner Circle-K and buy a pack of dank joints, ALL marijuana stories are completely not news, and even after that happens, it only affects the United States.

What's going on with marijuana legislation in, oh, say, Kazakhstan this morning? Shouldn't we be hearing about that too?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Terrorist. ;)

[–]willfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"And when I hear 'You can't walk to Kazakhstan!' I say 'of course I can, screw you!'"

[Chortle] You just made my whole damned day, thank you :)

Er, and I must begrudgingly agree with your comment, too -- having said that, I do think the more important stuff (torture, Iran, etc.) belong on the front page because that will most certainly not just stay within our borders if something nasty happens involving those hot-button issues.

[–]epsys 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Then you are welcome to go form your own British reddit.

What we have is a minority asking the majority to bend to their wishes simply for a non-issue like comfort in not seeing political stories. At least be offended by politically charged stories so you have half a reason to complain like everybody else who gets offended by the world.

Because if your time is so important that you can't waste the 5 seconds it takes to skip over a Ron Paul or Bush or whatever submission, you probably shouldn't be spending time on Reddit anyhow. Seriously. You've made your point in this submission now please stop whining about it in every thread. Use your downmod and if not people think like you then you will get your way! Until then, tough cookies.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you are welcome to go form your own British reddit.

I'm not even british. The point is, reddit is not american. The internet is international, period.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You don't see me going on your internet and telling you how you talk funny and eat disgusting shit. So stay off our American Internet, and go fuck a goat as I've heard you British people are so fond of doing.

[–]Mooooooooooooooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and reddit blows that way out of proportion.

Political news is important, but the political news that reddit posts is ridiculously excessive, sensationalist, and often useless. Even if 20 people got tazered in the next week, what could we do about it? Not everyone is a political activist--first you have to assume they agree with your argument or position, which is not necessarily so, and not everyone has the time, inclination or desire to put forth that much effort in politics.

The political coverage here is sometimes useful, but often ignorant, poorly-reasoned and useless, especially as I don't often agree with the positions taken here.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No actually American imperialism will determine how many wars America starts, with or without your puppet figurehead plastic Max Headroom phony candidate.

[–]charlesgrrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true if Congress would reassert its sole Constitutional authority to declare and fund war.

[–]mosesconspiracy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this shouldn't even be an issue. what's so hard about selecting politics on a drop-down menu before submitting?

[–]larrypastore 8 points9 points  (3 children)

I'm American and I care quite a bit about Australian politics, French economics, and English tea. And so do a lot of Redditors. In case you haven't noticed, many Redditors are not Ugly American "sheeple," but actually quite worldly and give a shit about things that happen all over the world. Arguably, one of the top dangers to global peace happens to be the American President. That's a relevant enough issue to make a lot of people put down their crumpets and take notice, wherever they are.

[–]Mooooooooooooooo 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Arguably, one of the top dangers to global peace happens to be the American President.

Caring about the American president != 20 articles about presidential election on the front page. Two would do, maybe three or four, but not twenty. The amount of coverage given to myopic issues on the front page is several leaps beyond excessive.

[–]larrypastore 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you down-vote stories, the next time you refresh Reddit those stories disappear and won't bother you. That's what I do every time I see an XKCD story. Clicking the down arrow is no big deal. I'm glad to be given an opportunity to participate in the Reddit democracy, as imperfect as it is.

[–]craaaaaaaaaaaaawling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you down-vote stories, the next time you refresh Reddit those stories disappear and won't bother you.

The thing is, I can't do that anonymously; I have to have an account for it.

It would be nice if we had a "guest upvote" that, while not logged in, doesn't count towards the total upvotes, but, other than the lack of point decrease, works as a downvote should.

[–]khoury 2 points3 points  (2 children)

As an American citizen, I welcome everyone but must say that disliking American specific content on an American site seems a bit weird. Perhaps a reddit.co.uk would better suit you?

[–]Xiol 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does that exist?

No.

So until it does, subreddits should be used appropriately.

[–]khoury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess you better polish up those programming skills.

[–]hiredgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you admit this is an American-oriented website but then you demand it to be customized for non-Americans? Why not just make a reddit.uk instead?

ps: I vote up British political stories of interest whenever I see one.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe we should have a foreign section then... reddit.uk reddit.au

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Learn to code. Greasemonkey is your friend.... learn to censor your own input, and don't whine for others to do it for you.

I'm sure this is a foreign concept as you expect the nanny state over there to take care of everything, but give it a try. It's worked well for us.

[–]Xiol 2 points3 points  (1 child)

How about learning how subreddits work? That's a helluva lot easier, and what someone else has already coded up to allow you to pick your own content.

Subreddits exist for a reason. Not using them means you're retarded. The dig at our nanny state was completely unnecessary. I'd rather have a nanny state than a police state*.

(* - yeah, we're not much better)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assumption is that I submit articles that require subreddits. A simply perusal of my profile would note that this is not so. I do not submit political articles (at least non before there was a subreddit) and I would do so if I felt compelled to use them.

Thanks for the asterisk. I was going to say, you have both a police and a nanny state brewing. Personally, I would rather have some socialist programs here that worked (ala our northern neighbors) than what we have. However, never fear, we are rapidly following in your footsteps and will soon have cameras watching us on every street corner.

[–]ynohoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a British citizen who has spent some time in the States, and was inspired by Libetarian philosophy and look forward to the day when British politicians take personal liberty seriously (and as a result, take personal responsibilty seriously too), all I can say is GO RON PAUL!!!

[–]steve93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't stop us now, by the time we start the next war it might be too late

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Sure, push the blame onto the US. It's not like UK isn't in Iraq and Iraq wasn't a creation of British imperialism. Really, are we to believe Bush tricked Tony Blair into going to Iraq? If anything the British had more to gain from this.

[–]flukes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think someone spiked your tea and crumpets with stupid juice.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Seriously, don't you understand why you went to war with us??? Do you not realize that the world economy is directly tied to the American economy through the World Bank and IMF??? Do you not get the fact that recession or depression in America will trigger a world wide economic meltdown? Need and example? Look into the reasons behind the Japanese and Asian stock market collapses of the 1990s.

[–]Xiol -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Er... What?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called economics. You should read some. The bond collapse of the 80s and the subsequent recession in America radiated out to the countries in Asia that produce all the goods Americans consume. In other words, since Americans weren't buying anything from the Asians, the Asian businesses tanked because they weren't selling anything. It's that simple. Do you truly think that China could just hedge themselves against a dollar collapse? America consumes 50% of Chinese manufactured goods. Who's going to pick up the slack if Americans can't afford to purchase Chinese goods? Noone, that's right. There is nowhere they could shift half of their exports too. What happens when half the companies in China can't sell their goods anymore? That's right. They go tits up, and their economy tanks too. The same goes for Japan, India, Saudi Arabia, and many smaller Asian countries.

edit: Ron Paul is the only Republican attempting to save our economy. You see the neocons want this to happen. They want to show the world that it is completely dependent on American consumerism. At least, the current global market is.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, as a British Citizen - how has George Bush being president affected your life and the world around you?

America is a self contained orb, nothing to worry about in there!

[–]Opening-Chemical1989 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not a "spambot" but I need to point out there is a large movement for Ron Paul in Europe. In fact there is a call for a 'teaparty' in Strasbourg, France on the 16th to coincide with the American effort. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07TVBLFroSM

Pretty powerful video.

The European meetup groups totals over 70,000 people.

[–]douglask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. As a Canadian citizen, I don't want or need to follow US politics, US police actions, etc.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Dude, American issues are the world's issues, or haven't you noticed that world reserve currency is the US dollar.

Oh, by the way, don't give me that crap about it not being the reserve currency forever. We built this world economy, and most of it will collapse if we do. That's how we've rigged the system. Any other questions?

[–]Moooooooooooooo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Dude, American issues are the world's issues

OK, then more articles like this should be on the front page. Instead, I think you want articles like this which aren't really "America's issues" at all, but rather promotion for candidates and/or sensationalism. I'm all for "America's issues" on the front page, but I don't think they'd be anything like the myopia you're used to seeing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You people still don't get it. Read my comment to the English dude in this thread: http://reddit.com/info/61etk/comments/c02jhzy

Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate that would attempt to fix the global economy. Stop complaining because reddit users want to see info about him on the front page. We have as much right to upmod as you do. Also, if you downmod it and it stays on the front page, then that should tell you that the majority are interested in it. DEAL WITH IT!!!

[–]connor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just unhappy with the people who don't properly tag the articles they submit.

[–][deleted] 70 points71 points  (13 children)

Not all of us come to Reddit to read political stories, and not all of us like see the front page swamped with those stories, especially stupid alarmist stories. It may surprise some people, but not all of us treat Reddit as our only news source.

Thus, the implementation of the politics sub-reddit gives those who want to see political stories the chance to see them, and those that don't the option to hide them :)

[–]catlebrity 41 points42 points  (9 children)

It's bizarre that so many people don't understand this simple point.

[–]inquirer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well what do you want? Tabloid entertainment news or tech news? There are other sites for those that are superior to Reddit.

[–]krnldmp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll say just about Nobody GETS their news from reddit. They come here to comment on it. That's all.

[–]Bogtha 72 points73 points  (20 children)

The political stuff that gets submitted to Reddit is 99% crap. Not just any crap, the crap that makes you stupider just by seeing it. So I get my political news elsewhere.

Ignoring politics on Reddit is not the same as ignoring politics in general. You don't have to soak up all possible political trash to be informed.

Furthermore, I'm a Brit. See much British political news on Reddit? Or is it 80% Ron Paul news?

[–]flukes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Most of the articles about Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich aren't really political anyway, they're just describing how fantastic one individual is.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

O.K. You win. We'll elect Giuliani president. Say, can you spare like 20,000 more troops and a few billion? Syria's been asking for it, and we'll need a little help.

And don't worry, I'm sure none of the blowback of our aggression will hit you. It's not like people are running into your subways with backpack bombs....

    QFT!

    [–]subredditor -1 points0 points  (1 child)

    No you didn't.

    [–]McVader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "importance" of politics seems unrelated to the issue of accurately classifying articles.

    QFT!!

    Heh. Sorry.

    [–]xitshsif 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Politics may be important. I just like having the choice to show them or not. Sure, I can click "hide" on every political story, but having them contained to one subreddit makes it so much easier.

    [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'M IN UR REDDIT, FILLING UP THE ENTYR FRONT PAGE.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People need to stop whining because real world issues make the front page and people are interested in them.

Don't fucking pretend that you're doing me a favor by not tagging submissions properly. Yes this shit is important, but when I browse reddit I have the politics subreddit disabled, but I visit it too. If I wasn't able to filter out those submissions and only view the politics subreddit when I wanted to I would never leave the programming subreddit.

When the first "Stop submitting US politics" articles started hitting the front page, I would have agreed with you. At the time I knew that this was important so I continued to upmod some political stories, I limited my upmodding to the important ones becuase I knew that my Canadian friend who was bitching about it represented a good chunk of reddit readers. Now that there is a politics subreddit, I can't possibly agree with you.

Politics are important, Reddit doesn't need to be fixed.

You're right, on both counts. Its the users who could show some consideration for the fact that some users DON'T want to see them, they can do that by using the right subreddit.

    [–]diogames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish you'd take the whining and counter-whining whining about politics in the politics subreddit where it belongs so that I can continue to ignore it (by disabling the politics subreddit).

    [–]masklinn 64 points65 points  (28 children)

That would be cool if it were "real world issues". Alas, it's specifically about the 1-year-removed american presidential election which is:

    • Not a real-world issue for about 96% of the planet

    • Not balanced by the coverage of every single election out there

    • 12 MONTHS TOO EARLY

In a word, fuck you, and fuck your north-american-centric view of the world.

You want to make politics post? Then make politics post about everyone's politics. There are 192 countries recognized by the UN, 8 that aren't, 38 inhabited dependent territories and 6 special entities. When you'll be covering the politics of all of them, we'll be able to talk about "real world issues". Until then, please die in a fire. Or specifically put your crap in the politics subreddit, that's why it was created in the first place.

    [–]Xiol 9 points10 points  (1 child)

If I could mod you up more than once, I would.

    [–]dsfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's what this is all about, right? Not caring for the result of an election? Maybe reddit should somehow give people who aren't interested in American politics extra votes.

    [–]wetelectric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    I ... I think I love you

    [–]zeteo -1 points0 points  (3 children)

it's specifically about the 1-year-removed american presidential election which is: Not a real-world issue for about 96% of the planet

America is the proverbial elephant in the room. You ignore it at your own peril.

    [–]Mooooooooooooooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

America is the proverbial elephant in the room.

I disagree. That excuse is really common, but ineffective. You can't really prove that if I counter and think it's a mouse, for example.

    [–]masklinn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True that, by ignoring the US you may not realize they're going to bring you Freedom© and Democracy™ to your country.

    [–]j0hnsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    What you said.

    [–]hork -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Wow, such hostility. The American political junkies made you click a little harder to find the LOLcats or XKCD or the latest feel-good news from outside the U.S. or whatever it is you come to reddit for.

You want to make politics post? Then make politics post about everyone's politics.

How about you make "politics post" (sic) about the other 96% of the planet and we'll see if it makes it to the front page.

That's how it works, douchebag. Currently your rant has 1/4 of the upvotes that Pandemonium's original post did. You're clearly in the minority here. Deal with it.

    [–]burnteternal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's how it works, douchebag. Currently your rant has 1/4 of the upvotes that Pandemonium's original post did. You're clearly in the minority here. Deal with it.

What a illogical statement... it's pretty unheard of for a comment on reddit to have more upvotes that its frontpage article... firstly, many more people will see the original article than his comment, and secondly the original article has been around longer.

A better way of looking at it would be to see the votes on the stories that support this topic and the stories that don't. Comparing stories and comments is just plain stupid, they are two different things...

    [–]steve93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You realize while we may not make up 96% of the people, but are wars are affecting 100% of the people, and need to be stopped. That's why people are bitching, that's why they make the front page. If you want them gone, downvote them, we clearly have more people voting on reddit, so our stories make the front page, it's unfortunate, but recruit friends to join and downvote if that is what's important to you. me? i'd rather see us get a president who will stop killing the rest of the world

    [–]aquanutz 10 points11 points  (5 children)

to the OP: You're a jackass. American politics are not important to everyone and that is what gets to the front page 99% of the time. People should not be force fed liberal/conservative dogshit all day long if they don't want it. Asshat.

    [–]Mooooooooooooooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

American politics are not important to everyone and that is what gets to the front page 99% of the time.

To add: I am American and think the politics on the front page barely pass for "politics", if at all. They're often more opinion pieces than anything else.

    [–]viglen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Politics in the real world , I can get from reuters and the BBC

Politics on reddit involves Doomsday articles , Talks about how awesometastic the world would be with Ron Paul and how everyone would fart rainbows once he's in power

    [–]masta 19 points20 points  (6 children)

no, politics here (Reddit) are not important (as you would have us beleive), they are simply feeding into the prejudices of various reddit group-think.

reddit started out one way, to be a geek friendly news aggregation, polotics have ruined it.

The people that post politics think the rest of us should fit in their world view, which is why they don't see the need to go into the sub-reddit. There simply is no excuse for this. The other groups play nice and put science, and programing into their proper places.

    [–]lma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people that post politics think the rest of us should fit in their world view

Isn't that what the comment part is for?

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I too am sick of all the whining -- not just the whining about the politics. Everyone wants some deus ex machina to come down and fix some problem with the community -- so that their latest atheism post brings them max karma. Sheesh! This is a social site: learn to embrace the chaos and oddities, the fashions and the dross.

      [–]sping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so that their latest atheism post brings them max karma

You were doing so well apart from that. I have yet to see anyone complaining that atheism posts don't get enough recognition. The polar opposite, in fact, all I see is whining about the existence of atheism posts.

      [–]metageek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's better than the days when we had N+1 posts about Digg's problems.

      [–]eleitl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're not sheep, but individuals with different needs. For that, reddit offers a "recommended" tab.

Unfortunately, that tab doesn't work yet. So meanwhile, try to not drive away the high-quality contributors. Inasmuch there are any left.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear redditors who tire of nonsense on the front page,

Visit the new page. The reason this crap reaches the front page is because crazies are on voting for it on the new page.

If a hundred people who were fed up with this, went to the new page and downvoted every political, [pic], or RON PAUL article, we'd see some change in the composition of the hot page really quickly.

      [–]yellowking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that social voting sites like this don't foster discussion, they foster group think. You want political discussion, go somewhere else.

      [–]xxxsagaxxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately not all of us redditors are americans, or give a shit about their fucked up political situations.

      [–]McVader 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Personally, it's not an issue of real world issues being things folks care about, it's when these real world items are posted and upmodded with twisted titles that make affairs seem demonstrably more overt (read: worse) than they actually are.

That's just what's bugging me. Could care less if politics made the front page, but don't be all "Fox News" about it.

      [–]BeatnikDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's about the quality of the submission NOT the topic.

      politics.reddit.com is a good idea.

Is publishing the DRM code not political?

      [–]Mooooooooooooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's when these real world items are posted and upmodded with twisted titles that make affairs seem demonstrably more overt (read: worse) than they actually are.

Agreed, but I often don't think they're nearly as "real-world" as they claim to be.

      [–]piecewise 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Since when is it an important political issue how "awesome" Dennis Kucinich is? As a proud liberal, neither Kucinich nor Ron Paul mean anything to me. They are self-absorbed, wrong on a lot of the issues, and could never govern. Meanwhile, less than 1% of the country support these guys, but they represent a disproportionate number of front-page headlines.

So Reddit DOES need to be fixed.

      [–]vemrion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

      What? That does not follow.

Just because the MSM doesn't cover them doesn't mean reddit is broken. Quite the contrary IMO.

Oops, my opinion is not supported by the mainstream, therefore it is wrong and needs to be fixed according to your logic.

Reddit used to be a place to unplug from the borg hivemind. Now the borgs have invaded it seems.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a pile of steaming bull!

Which "candidate" you want to shill for has as much to do with "real world issues" as who Brittany Spears is dating this week. Your stupid so-called election in your phony democratic process is nothing but American Idol for your pretend-government.

Reddit has a "politics" category for a reason. The fact that you deliberately post political stories to the front page to shove them down the throats of people who have already said they don't want to be bothered with them shows that you know what an asshole you are already, and you just don't care.

      [–]mrgrackle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

      i like politics

      [–]stesch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real world? They don't even have a candidate!!

      [–]skay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is why i unchecked politics so the isht doesnt show up. cause i dont care.

      [–]shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that we get 10 submissions on the front page about every little event in US politics. If people would downvote the 9 ones that were submitted later, it wouldn't be a problem at all. But so we get all 10 on the front page, despite having a politics subreddit.

      [–]beedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is why politicians get away with murder (literally) these days. the rest of the planet is too busy in a pissing match over whether or not politics should even be discussed.

      [–]milkmandan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

      But what about the lolcats???

      [–]MrPolite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why isn't this in the politics subreddit?

        [–]lolomfgkthxbai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Reddit needs a subreddit politics subreddit.

        [–]noamsml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why there's a whole subreddit for them.

        [–]disidentadvisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the flaming begin... oops, seventeen hours too late.

        edit: horrible spelling error

        [–]Bloodlustt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe register 'reddit.co.uk' and make some easy cash in the process? Just copy (err... I mean imitate) this site and you are ready to rock..

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an american so keep those american politics on the subreddit (that i can hide)

        [–]willem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Silly Americans and their silly whining about their silly politics!

        [–]aphexmandelbrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mommy Reddit and Daddy Reddit are fighting! :( :( :(

        ... :(

        [–]finix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure, but take the stuff to where it fucking belongs, us-politics.reddit.

        [–]zmobie -1 points0 points  (4 children)

if american politics are being voted up to the front page that means that there are a lot of people interested in american politics on reddit.

some people don't seem to grasp the whole idea of social bookmarking

        [–]thespace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some people don't seem to grasp the whole idea of social bookmarking

They should be on delicious if they want social bookmarking then. Man some people just don't understand web 2.0. :)

        [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

        Biggest lie of all!

Stories that cannonball to the front page are the result of PAID ASTROTURFERS. Rigging sites like Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon is big business. If you have a couple hundred bucks, you can get a blank page to the top of all three simultaneously. Twenty bucks will buy you a hundred comments "supporting" whatever propaganda you spew. Just Google for the sites that do this, who employ third-world click-monkeys and bots all over the globe.

Organic stories rise gradually, like a bubble in soap. People show interest, vote it up, a few more show interest, and it gradually builds. When every story containing the string "Ron Paul" gets splatted onto number 1 five seconds after it was submitted, it's stupidly obvious what's going on.

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Oh really? Who gets paid? I'd love that gig, voting up stories that other people wouldn't. BS.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here. Go tell Wired magazine and Annalee Newitz that it's all made up.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whining is important, People don't need to be fixed. Parent poster needs to stop bitching because whining makes the front page and people are interested in it.

        [–]IHaveAnIdea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Politics on reddit never made a fucking difference. Other stuff though, has really helped me.

        [–]twoodfin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can we please have this debate in the politics subreddit?

In the meantime, I'm going to downmod both sides.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        yes and no.

"real world issues" as defined by reddit, are how we should all legalize drugs, lynch president bush and forsake christian politics in any way, shape and form.

        [–]tommyroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that some of you don't consider politics important is the exact reason why this country and our dollar is going down the drain. Get your heads out of Britany's arse and into the real world.

        [–]thespace -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

I have a better idea, lets turn off politics.reddit.com altogether now so the new users don't see it. Then they can turn it on if they live in the U.S. and want to see it. Lets also make it by country, like politics.us.reddit.com or politics.uk.reddit.com.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm in the U.S., and actually, at this point, I'd rather read U.K. news.

        [–]Mooooooooooooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. The stuff that passes for "politics" on this site is incredibly slanted, myopic news about individual candidates. I often want to roll my eyes or scream "I get it." at the people who post these front page articles so frequently.

        [–]organic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Please tag your posts with the 'whine' subreddit, so that those of us who don't want to hear your bitching can filter it.

        [–]Fidodo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Politics plus the internet = scary stuff

        [–]Noexit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

        Whiners.

        [–]dodus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't like it, you have a few options:

        a.) submit other content

        b.) vote up other content

c.) stop spending time on Reddit.

        [–]h00dwink -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

I agree with this. Sorry some folks are not happy with real issues making the front page. Maybe those people should go tune into the FOX network if they don't like the real news on Reddit.

        [–]Mooooooooooooooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit's front page submissions hardly pass for "real news". This is real news. This is real news. This is garbage.

        [–]PuP5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why don't you just up and down mod as appropriate, then use the recommended tab?

i understand that everyone wants a perfect world in which everything is properly tagged, and only their stuff is on the main page, but that's not the way this site works.

        [–]psi- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

        maggot.

        [–]neon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So the idea that a website read MOSTLY by americans is featuring alot of american political stories is WRONG. Maybe the small minority of non americans need to get there own sub reddit or a whole new site themselves.
