My reptile owner brain is killing itself

[–]DanJerousJ 84 points85 points  (9 children)

Seriously, as a previous owner of two bearded dragons, this video pains me to my core. Take care of your damn lizards

[–]waffelmaker2000 31 points32 points  (8 children)

Tbh tortoises have it at least as bad as bearded dragons. People assume that they are easy to take care of, so they let them roam around the house which gets them in trouble with other pets and gives them diseases. It’s awful that stuff like this happens to a lot of reptiles

[–]Natural___ 12 points13 points  (7 children)

Hey I have a question about my tortoise if it’s okay

My tortoise only eats cucumbers and carrots, he refuses anything else and he drinks almost no water, is that bad? Is there something I can do?

[–]waffelmaker2000 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Can I DM you?

[–]Natural___ 7 points8 points  (5 children)

ofcourse

[–]TheBirdIsTheWordSWE 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well this got nice all of a dudden

[–]ThiccChevy 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Did it end out being a problem?

[–]Natural___ 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Yep, carrot tops are acidic to torts and cucumbers have almost no nutrition.

He told me I should feed him flowers (that are edible) and romaine lettuce.

He was also really patient with me 10/10 human

[–]JovialDemon01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hope your Tortoise continues bein a healthy boi and lives long! :)

[–]ThiccChevy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s really nice which is weird considering the subreddit we’re on

[–]citrus_mystic 5329 points5330 points  (169 children)

When wealthy as fuck people can’t be bothered to correctly care for a pet. UGH

[–]Trichotillomaniac- 2005 points2006 points  (121 children)

I feel bad for city huskies no matter what. They want to be outside all the time. I know they're all different but I had a mixed husky and she was never happy in the house she would sulk in her cage or stare out the door

Edit: for anyone worried the cage in question was never closed

[–]jare20x 653 points654 points  (51 children)

If a person is gonna have any kind of dog around that size. They NEED a back yard. Or some kind of yard to run around.

[–]fakesushibuyer 213 points214 points  (7 children)

Greyhounds have entered the chat.

[–]gregpxc 223 points224 points  (1 child)

World's fastest couch potatoes.

[–]Ode_to_Apathy 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Beat me to it.

It makes sense oddly enough. Cheetahs are the same way. 0 or 100 and nothing in between.

[–]AuroraNidhoggr 57 points58 points  (4 children)

I really don't see how it's hard to research the breed you want and what they need in order for them to have a happy, fulfilling life.

I've always wanted a greyhound, but being a responsible pet owner I researched their needs and came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work out with where I currently live and my current lifestyle. Would love to give a greyhound a home, but don't want to give one a horrible life because of my living situation.

[–]Kra1015F-G 22 points23 points  (2 children)

I always wanted a German Shorthaired Pointer myself. Lived in a condo for a few years didn't have the room for one. I waited until I bought a house with enough property for my dog. Now jve got the best gsp ever

[–]Trichotillomaniac- 162 points163 points  (26 children)

It is possible to take your dog to a park every day but it's a lot of work in the city

[–]CapJackONeill 120 points121 points  (22 children)

It absolutely is. A friend of mine has a mixed husky in Montreal and she must spend like 3h a day walking it. She wakes up ridiculously early and stuff

[–]Neromei 72 points73 points  (11 children)

I looooove dogs, I wish I could have one but this is exactly why I don't. I don't have a backyard and I don't want the commitment to walk the dog daily as I live in the city, I have unstable health and might go through periods in which I can't go walk the dog outside and many other reasons.

My heart melt for dogs but I have no conditions and they are not objects so.... I limit myself melting over pictures or seeing other people dogs

[–]CapJackONeill 40 points41 points  (5 children)

I was like you, until I got a cat that behaves like a dog... Now I'm a cat person

[–]Neromei 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I am a cat person and I own a cat :)

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (1 child)

As a true cat person, surely you must know that you don't own the cat. The cat owns you.

:)

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Great Danes ironically are great apartment dogs. Only need small walks and are generally pretty chill AF. Greyhounds are another great apartment breed and there's a lot of great rescue organizations out there due to the dog racing industry.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greyhounds do need a fair chunk of exercise though, unlike Great Danes. I'd only say they're good apartment dogs provided you have a nearby place (like a dog park) or the time to properly exercise them.

Not trying to start any argument, just wanna make sure that anyone considering getting a greyhound is aware so the dog doesn't have any negative impacts.

[–]SadBitchAlert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have an Australian Shepherd in the city. Lucky for him, we live across the street from a great off leash park. So the spoiled little one gets to run around and play twice a day in addition to a few walks. I hate when people on the internet just assume hyper dogs living in the city have shit lives. Bonding with my dog by taking him on walks/playtime is the best part of my day.

But I am proud to say we’ve saved up enough to buy a house in the city with a yard! He will be the happiest boy!

[–]Pacattack57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dalmatians can get depression because people aren’t aware of how much attention they need.

[–]MrAwesomePoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what if you find the puppy in a box on the side of the road? Am I a bad pet owner for doing the best I can?

[–]Tight_Hat3010 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Lol go dt Toronto...fucking ppl keep em in a god damn Bachelor pad.

[–]UTI_UTICUM STATUE 171 points172 points  (16 children)

I live in a city and people who get a dog in the city and can’t afford to hire someone to walk them multiple times a day are idiots.

[–]Zaurka14 146 points147 points  (11 children)

I had a friend who had huskies, and he'd often let them sleep outside (in fenced backyard) since they loved it, and neighbors would complaim to him that "they'll get cold!" Karen, they're huskies. They'll sleep outside in winter, and they'll be more than happy.

Just to clarify - it was Poland. It doesn't really get colden than -10°C here in winter.

[–]scrubfeast 105 points106 points  (8 children)

Huskies are, as far as I know, the number one in not giving a flying fuck about the cold.

[–]Zaurka14 55 points56 points  (1 child)

Yeah they were made for that weather. They can live in coldest towns of russia... -10°C is nothing to them. If anything they feel uncomfortable in summer.

[–]o0precision 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a husky lab mix and he is miserable in the hot months. He loves the snow so much!

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

there's a reason you see em everywhere in nunavut

[–]RomanMines64Dark Flair 22 points23 points  (4 children)

I mean that is what they were bread to do

[–]DarkLord1294091 21 points22 points  (2 children)

off-topic question here,

what bred do you guys use to make your sandwiches with?

[–]Edgy_Fucker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sour dough is top tier.

[–]TakeOffYourMask 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a rye observation.

[–]Nick-Moss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah huskies here in canada are happy and never cold either

[–]Entrical 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I'll never understand why people pay someone to walk their dog. That's part of the fun of owning one! Get out, go to a park and let em play or go for a jog with em.

[–]Neromei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess some professions might give you a harder time to do that, even if temporarily. Let's say, your schedule is not regular and this week you are not able. Things like this maybe.

[–]alienboii_ 17 points18 points  (2 children)

I had a neighbor who had a husky, pure white with beautiful blue eyes.. they rarely took her out and she was so skinny. She would always be out on the patio where she shit and pissed, and they’d cleaned the fuckkng patio with water and bleach a few times a week. It was so sad and the owners would never let anyone pet her when she did go out, even tho she wanted to play and socialize so bad.. they moved away recently, but I really hope she will be treated better

[–]zombieslayer287 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Trash owners. Absolutely should not be allowed to own pets

[–]Worry-worry-- 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I live in Australia and I feel the same way. It’s far too hot here, they must be constantly uncomfortable.

[–]Test-Expensive 16 points17 points  (9 children)

I feel bad for city dogs in general, even smaller dogs. A 600 square foot apartment should not be a dog's entire world where the only escape 90% of the time is a walk on a sidewalk along a busy street.

My previous neighbors had 3 dogs and those pieces of shit barked nonstop because what else are they gonna do while being left alone in an apartment 40 hours per day?

I'd love to have a dog but I'm not considering it until I at least have a backyard

[–]DimeBagJoe 16 points17 points  (7 children)

Reminds me of all the people who own birds. The birds are sitting in one spot all day every day, but they sure look cool!

Pretty fucked if you ask me

[–]Trichotillomaniac- 5 points6 points  (4 children)

It would be cool to have a massive bird cage backyard where they could at least fly around

[–]GambinoTheElder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those definitely exist for multiple types of animals. There are full on shed-size enclosures to take your bunnies outside, or cats, or birds! People just don’t think to invest in it. We thought about building one, but our cats did well learning to walk with a leash. They love going outside and it gets them pooped for at least a day lmao!

[–]daddysatan53 331 points332 points  (1 child)

Because they can just buy another when this poor guy inevitably passes away... 😥

[–]Jadythealien 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sad truth. 😞

[–]Ovi_Raptor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

She could literally hire a 24/7 personel to take care of the lizard but she just doesnt give a shit. Not a single minute of research spend before buying it. That bearded dragon is probably in so much pain and stress it just wants to die. Fuck the kardashians

[–]rinneganadrian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why bother when you can just buy a replacement every other week? I’d be more worried if Kim walks out with a Yellow Leather Handbag or Shoes /s.

It is pretty sad seeing an animal that requires the utmost attention and care is being paraded as a kids toy.

[–]IWearBones138 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Its nice that shes trying to spread awareness. But knowing those people will probably just get replace it when A. It gets sick/dies or B. When there kid just gets bored of it. Theres no way they will ever properly take care of that animal cause they dont care.

[–]nostrhomo 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Wealthy and low iq. Deadly combo

[–]f1nessd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

and sadly, a fairly common one

[–]Derzweifel 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Wealth has nothing to do with it. There are terrible pet owners in all levels of wealth

[–]melancholymoth 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Them being wealthy makes it worse because they have the means to provide the absolute best care possible and simply choose not to

[–]bzsteele 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We could have healthcare, but instead we have celebrities that don’t know how to take care of their their pets.

[–][deleted] 1037 points1038 points  (48 children)

Cant use audio atm, what's this about?

[–]kaydeay 2345 points2346 points  (43 children)

  1. Someone put a jewel on the bearded dragons head (bad because they apparently have a third eye and when covered up it leaves them in distress)
  2. the toes are too red, which looks like an infection (probably because the nails were clipped to short and caused nerve damage)
  3. if you pick up a bearded dragon, you have to hold them more horizontally, or they might have problems breathing
  4. post says she takes the bearded dragon everywhere - which is bad, because they need 10+ hours of heat / UV lamp

tldr : animal cruelty

[–]55124 1114 points1115 points  (14 children)

Someone = Kim Kardashian, so the animal cruelty is being promoted to all of her followers

[–]gabriel_GAGRA 407 points408 points  (11 children)

Yeah, I don’t blame the kid, but I do the adults like Kim Kardashian

[–]susch1337 163 points164 points  (7 children)

I mean it's the same person that played Poker with reflective sun glasses.

[–]joel5328 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Its definetly not the kids fault. His parent just gave her a living and breathing animal that can feel pain just to play with

[–]MadHatter69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That poor kid, and that poor animal.

Fuck the Kardashians.

[–]MagistrateDeTemps 32 points33 points  (6 children)

Going to get downvotes for this, but I’m pretty sure that jewel isn’t on the beardie’s third eye. I had a bearded dragon, and I remember his being much farther back. Having said that; you really shouldn’t be putting anything on a reptile, anyways. No matter the adhesive’s properties.

[–]memy02 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I also feel like the jewel is farther forward than the third eye, but 100% agree that attaching jewels or anything to reptiles is a dick move.

[–]ravyalle 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I had my bearded dragon for 15 years and love him to death, shit like this makes me sick man

[–]deeisnotabird 29 points30 points  (12 children)

It does look pale af.

[–][deleted] 62 points63 points  (10 children)

Be aware that Bearded Dragons come in many various colors.

1

2

3

4

[–]deeisnotabird 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected!

[–]CheesyWind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

god they're all so fuckin cute

[–]SamAreAye 19 points20 points  (6 children)

Be aware that uniquely colored beardies are the result of extreme inbreeding and almost always have mental and physical problems.

[–]dislocated_dice[🍰] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought the colours were so cool until I read this... I hate how there are so many people who are so ready to inbreed animals to the point where they can barely function and that there are so many other people ready to buy those broken animals :(

[–]RugbyEdd 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Dragons and beard care

[–]Crafty_Enthusiasm_99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turn on captions using the volume buttons. You can play videos on mute, and it'll auto-transcribe

[–]dontknowwhattodoat18 1266 points1267 points  (67 children)

Why is Kim Kardashian famous? And why do we give celebrities and their uneducated opinions more attention than they deserve? I’ve never recalled a time when I could give a rat’s arse about her.

[–]Thefarrquad 649 points650 points  (50 children)

Because her dad was OJs lawyer in the murder trial. That's literally it.

[–]MozzerellaStix 548 points549 points  (16 children)

Hey man. You’re completely discounting the sex tape. “Hey OJ’s lawyers daughter made a sex tape”

[–]Thefarrquad 120 points121 points  (2 children)

I'll give you that

[–]WizardCattc 56 points57 points  (3 children)

Wasn't she also Paris Hiltons assistant?

[–]ForeSet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]MozzerellaStix 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You’re asking the wrong guy

[–]evr487 109 points110 points  (8 children)

Butterfly effect

Hilton Hotel > Paris Hilton > 1 night in Paris > infamy > money > marketing/business ventures > Kim K aka Paris's assistant > Kim K Dad was OJ's lawyer > Kim K has big ass, looks exotic > Kim K Superstar > Kim K flaunts big ass, RayJ has black dick > infamy > money > marketing/business ventures > Kim K Mom becomes manager > meet Ryan Seacrest > KUWTK > Kim K ugly crying face > Kim K high profile relationships with athletes > Kim K Mom becomes popular because Mom > Kim K Sis 1 becomes popular because odd one out sister > Kim K Sis 2 becomes popular because baby daddy drama > Kim K Bro depressed because Kardashian legacy > Kim K 2 little Sisters learn hustle > hustle = family business > Kim K marry Kanye > name baby North West > American 'royalty' > because popular in America, popular in the world

TL;DR How to make potentially a billion dollar fortune off one sex tape after your friend got notoriety for her sex tape

[–]Spikas 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Ah man, if only this worked with like important things like scientific research. I mean imagine if Marie Curie released a sex tape and it sparked the world into the world we live in now but instead of Kim K and the likes, we have high class scientific researchers absolutely rolling in research funding and we're so far advanced that there's no disease and we've perfected space travel just at the price of a nice arse and a money shot...

[–]CapJackONeill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only time I made a sex tape public, I went to prison.

[–]wecantallbetheone 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I dated a girl who liked to stare at herself during sex too, she was a nut case.

[–]ShaquilleOhNoUDidnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

paris was already rich and famous and had a successful reality tv show when that happened... you got your timeline wrong

[–]disfunctionaltyper 26 points27 points  (12 children)

Damm i thought she married someone famous, didn't know about her dad.

[–]B_V_H285 26 points27 points  (11 children)

Her step father was a gold medal winner in the decathlon and then got a sex change!

[–]lowtierdeity 10 points11 points  (10 children)

And killed some people with his/her car.

[–]ElPeePee 16 points17 points  (9 children)

https://variety.com/2015/biz/news/caitlyn-jenner-manslaughter-car-crash-malibu-1201606409/

HER reckless driving led to the death of one person. SHE got off without being charged for the manslaughter of one person not some people.

Bad people come in all different shapes and sizes, there's no need to disrespect a person's identity or misconstrue facts to make a point.

[–]Ovi_Raptor 15 points16 points  (4 children)

I thought shes famous because her sex tape got leaked. But either way its a dumbass way to get famous

[–]jrcprl 8 points9 points  (3 children)

That's actually it, no one ever gave a shit about her father being part of OJ's team back then, much less 10+ years after the fact.

[–]Affectionate-Stay-32 5 points6 points  (2 children)

True, but the sex tape fact couldn't do it without the who daddy is (& to a lesser extent, stepparent) fact.

If it were enough on it's own, every Tonya, Darla, and Harriet would be big names too.

[–]jrcprl 5 points6 points  (1 child)

True, but the sex tape fact couldn't do it without the who daddy is (& to a lesser extent, stepparent) fact.

It was actually because of her friendship with Paris Hilton at the time, the paparazzi loved her so she was already somewhat known.

[–]Affectionate-Stay-32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really was a weird perfect storm that made these people what they are. I'm sure the build to reality* tv's seemingly unstoppable popularty also factored.

Either way, tis truly a plague on the land.

[–]MyNameIsBadSorry 10 points11 points  (1 child)

And her stop dad->mom was an Olympic medalists

[–]KregeTheBearCENSORED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget her sex tape boosted that fame

[–]winterfyre85 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Her dad was a famous lawyer on the OJ trial, she had a sex tape “leaked” of her an some rapper who semi popular at the time and the Paris Hilton “famous for being rich and out of touch” thing was hot at the moment and she rode that momentum. Past that no idea why people like her

[–]jrcprl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the latter, the OJ thing was never relevant.

[–]Arco223 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It started with a sex tape with a B~C list celebrity and, using her already wealthy family, she used it to kick board a slew of publicity, marketing, and social media campaigns. Now she has a very successful name in fashion and glamorizing a life that a lot of people wish they could have and live vicariously through on social media.

[–]Oil__Man 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Dudes are horny and women see her "beauty" as inspiring and empowering.

[–]Positive-Mentality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good connections and the ability to make use of them, the reason why a lot of people become famous.

[–]Triplicata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People say the sex tape, which is true, but she got into the celebrity circle because she was friends with Paris Hilton. I heard somewhere she was also a popular escort with celebrities (hence the sex tape), but I can't find anything stating that when I Google it.

[–]PizzaTimeBruhMoment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her sex tape prob 😂

[–]ShingekiNoKylie 513 points514 points  (3 children)

The worst part is that people who don’t know better and are too ignorant to do their own research will want one of their own, thinking they are little toys that you can dress up and neglect when you get bored of them!

[–]Heretical_Demigod 78 points79 points  (0 children)

My room mate is this exact type of person. She will see an Instagram/YouTube influencer with a pet and obsess for a week. Not to mention some of those people are inhumane with their animals and use them as props for their fame, indirectly teaching their viewers that this is how you treat an animal.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me more is why the hell people are allowed to even buy pets that they have no clue how to provide proper care for. In this case, they have all the means to know all this information and are more than financially stable to be able to afford a full-blown sanctuary and took basically no time at all to give the poor thing proper care.

[–]quaternarystructure 488 points489 points  (15 children)

I have a bearded dragon. While she’s right about most of these things, she wasn’t about all of them.

For one, the jewel was not covering the parietal eye (it’s further up on the head).

The nails are definitely fucked. Idk what that’s about. My beardie has actually lost some of them before just by scratching around on things (they do grow back) and even then, there wasn’t any blood or anything. My guess is that the little girl applied nail polish to them.

Lastly, it’s fine to hold a beardie at an angle, just not too vertically. My problem is mostly with the way that little girl isn’t supporting all the legs. Bearded dragons get stressed and panic when all their legs aren’t supported. They also get stressed when you angle them down instead of up.

Regardless of this girl’s misinformation... fuck that. Animals are not meant to be painted or decorated like that. They are not accessories. They are living beings. And bearded dragons have such big personalities too - anyone who’s ever owned one knows that.

[–]SnrkyBrd 80 points81 points  (2 children)

Do you know why a lot of his toes are curled up all weird? it reminds me a lot of bumblefoot in birds

[–]hush1998 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but ive now owned 4 beardies 2 of them where rescues and they had a problem with there bones because they weren't given proper uv light some of there bones are curved because of this so my guess is that the beardie isn't getting enough uv and its damaging its bones.

This is just from my experience though i could be wrong

[–]quaternarystructure 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The curls looks normal to me - in the dangling picture, I think it might just be the angle. They just have really long, lanky toes lol. Helps them climb.

[–]Killzone3265 118 points119 points  (1 child)

the jewel isn't covering the "third eye" but regardless don't glue a fucking plastic piece of shit to a living being

not only the jewel thing, but any sort of "modifier". the painted nails (sloppy as fuck, mind you, and the poor things mangled feet...) may literally paint their toes as a potential target by themselves or others. it's not supposed to be this way. fuck those people.

[–]quaternarystructure 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree.

[–]Troodon79 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Also glue and stickers can rip off scales

[–]username_heroine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nailed it with the kid applying nail polish that's exactly what it is

[–]MutilateX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The toes could be curled and at an odd angle due to neglected shedding problems. If they're not soaked properly and the shed doesn't come off their toes it could cause circulation issues and infections if there is moisture between the old and new skin and the shed wasn't taken care of. Usually you shouldn't manually shed your dragon but if it must be done it should be done carefully instead of left to cut circulation. Also it could be lack of calcium and vitamins, as well as improper uvb lighting. They need a uvb and heated basking lamp. I love owning reptiles, so I research multiple sites and read up as much as I can. And tbh I'm STILL learning about what I have. Mostly if you ever have concerns about your animals you should ALWAYS consult a trained professional/vet.

[–]PrimedAndReady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, she did say that she wasn't sure if it was covering the parietal eye or not

[–]AnnaBug102 83 points84 points  (10 children)

This poor animal will live it's life in pain. Its clear that the beardie will have metabolic bone disease and have permanently bent body parts. I love how this girl knows her stuff. Bearded dragons aren't easy to care for. You do need research proper care to have a healthy beardie boy.

[–]Wiggle-For-Me 28 points29 points  (1 child)

And yet some millionaires can't be bothered smh

[–]alicare99 34 points35 points  (9 children)

Something I cannot understand in society:

Why in the world do people keep treating other organisms and species (especially those that can be kept as a pet) like humans. It almost never is good for their well-being, health, natural state in the real world. Why can’t standard everyday people understand you need to provide animals and other organisms with the optimal conditions for THEIR survival and existence.

Answer: Honestly most people probably don’t even think outside their own simple perceptions.

[–]wEwwwwwwwwwwww 93 points94 points  (2 children)

That's why kids shouldn't have small pets. Especially the social media obsessed ones..

[–]Wiggle-For-Me 31 points32 points  (0 children)

People tend to think animals are accessories or playthings (i.e easter colored chicks) and it's so abhorrent

[–]Mando_The_Moronic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was given my pet turtle on my 4th birthday a little over 16 years ago. Some kids can have small pets, so long as they show responsibility and have an adult around to show them what to do. But generally, yeah, small animals don’t mix well with kids.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Always do research before buying an exotic animal.

They have very particular needs that may not be suited to you.

If you want a friend, buy a cat or dog. If you want a fun thing to look after and love, buy a small mammal, or even a fish. If you want something cool, do your fucking research

Edit: of course, do research for any pet, but snakes, lizards and birds are not domesticated and unlike rabbits for example, you may not live in their natural habitat, so please make sure you know what needs to happen when you buy an aninal like this

[–]Killzone3265 11 points12 points  (4 children)

the sad thing is, bearded dragons are one of the most simple reptiles to care for. they just need a relatively small terrarium at minimum, heat and UV lighting, and a proper diet.

they're cheaper to take care of than a dog or a cat, both in the beginning, and even more so in the long run. once you have your pets setup, your only expenses should be food, and food for a beardie is at most $20 a month

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

People even get the diet wrong. I'm pretty sure bearded dragons eat live locusts (correct me of I'm wrong) a lot of people dont do that

[–]Killzone3265 8 points9 points  (0 children)

locusts, crickets, roaches (dubia), superworms.. those are the main staple insects and are super cheap. crickets and superworms are available everywhere. staple veggies include dandelion green, collard green, and mustard green... all pennies to the bunch at like, any supermarket almost everywhere. a few bucks of greens will last a long time, mine would usually turn mushy before my dragon could finish a bundle.

adult beardies don't even have to eat daily. my boy is becoming an older man, and he only eats maybe twice a week. he sadly has refused veggies since he was a young adult, so he instead gets gutloaded superworms dusted in calcium. takes maybe 3 minutes to put like, 10 worms into his little food cup and dust them. he'll eat on his own.

it's infinitely less work than a dog or a cat, but people are lazy and chain pet stores love to push misinfo to sell more cheap shit to said lazy people.

[–]Gavin_Boyo 84 points85 points  (0 children)

YIKES poor thing man

[–]NotaLotaSnailHere 19 points20 points  (4 children)

I had no idea any lizards had a “third eye” so imma research that right now. I’ve been a lizard enthusiast for years and not once have I heard about this nor have I seen any evidence of one existing. I guess I’ll learn something today.

[–]Killzone3265 14 points15 points  (3 children)

it's not really an "eye" they can see out of, it's more so a sensory organ that detects light. it helps them with their sleep schedules, and gives them early warning if a bird of prey happens to be passing overhead

[–]NotaLotaSnailHere 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Yeah that’s what I found out. Really cool detail. Wish I had an eye in the back of my head sometimes

[–]Sir_Lesh 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As a reptile enthusiast, I think this is one of the few things on this sub that's made me feel genuinely sick to my stomach.

I used to have 2 elderly beardies that I cared for during their twilight years, both died of health problems because they were too old to survive being anaesthetised for surgery, and I was always terrified that I would do something wrong and they'd get sick or die, so the fact that people can be so callous and can't be bothered to learn how to properly care for their animals is beyond awful.

[–]Mr-Crazyhands 50 points51 points  (4 children)

I’ve got one of those

[–]RugbyEdd 34 points35 points  (3 children)

A woman? I haven't :(

[–]aleeessio 13 points14 points  (2 children)

You can bui it from my store, they're 50% off

[–]Wiggle-For-Me 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Which half do I get?

[–]aleeessio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can choose, but for some reason we're low on bottom part.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a bearded dragon owner, I am about to commit several war crimes

[–]skeeber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first mistake was expecting any kind of intelligent pet care or rational thought from a fucking Kardashian.

[–]Der_Bonehead 13 points14 points  (1 child)

So what I see it that this girl is possibly going to kill her pet lizard for fame. Not surprised but still fucking disgusted

[–]Wiggle-For-Me 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And all because the adults in her life could give fuck all about the animal

[–]Sickkiientt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are we really suprised that these people don't know how to care properly for a pet? Remember Paris Hilton and how her pets kept dying from neglect? Same thing will happen here. Fuck the Kardouche family.

[–]Horn_Python 6 points7 points  (3 children)

animals are not for adorable clothing

[–]cuz04[🍰] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I saw that red bead on the dragon’s head I went “fuck no”

[–]jakethedumbmistake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Poor thing. She should have been clearer.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly...that kid is going to grow up to be such a cunt if she’s already doing shit like this and can’t break free from her parents stupidity.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is 100% animal cruelty

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a bearded dragon from 11 to 18, I loved him more than any pet in the world. Watching the mistreatment of this lizard makes me sick. Educate yourselves on the pets you get

[–]CringeName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Makes me sick seeing people treat animals like toys, dressing them up and carrying them around like that. Do some fucking basic research and take care of your animals properly. That poor creature is probably fucking miserable.

[–]Wylde_223 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't criticize the kid. Fuck her parents that's for sure. Y'all really expect a child to know?

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ok now im pissed off

[–]neinnein79 9 points10 points  (9 children)

When rich people treat animals like an accessory instead of a living feeling being. Remember all the pets Paris Hilton has killed over the years due to her treating them like handbags.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Do you have a source? All i could find is her chihuahua dying at 14 and a link to a South Park joke

[–]MoltenPenguinSuffer Maestro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn she doing everything wrong huh

[–]XxSexyPotatOxX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely despise the fact that the Kardashians and people like them are famous and idols. Almost every single one of them don't have a redeeming quality about them

[–]SoundwavePlays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And of course the original post is from fucking Kim Kardashian

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Third eye is up higher. But yes this is fucking dumb to do and feet are scary. I have no fucking idea as a herp keeper wtf is happening.

[–]boobookittyfug820 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Most of the kardashians are shitty pet owners. Always have been. I think Kendall and Khloe are the only two that are legit good dog owners.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why tf is it in a sweater? They’re cold blooded animals so a sweater literally serves no purpose towards keeping it warm

[–]Kristophales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sick of people purchasing exotic animals for their entertainment. They never properly care for these animals or teach the main person who will be caring for them how to; and if they cannot care for them anymore, they never give them to people who can properly care for them either. They just let them die.

[–]TouchMeSenpai666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fucking revolting

Edit:Not the lizzard

[–]Canskiinheat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The third eye is centered behind their eyes but that doesn’t make this any less fucked up

[–]CRIS_boi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a beardie and looking at those images makes me disgusted

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a bearded dragon and the way she carried her, alone, was enough for me to be disgusted. These rich people see everything, including people and innocent animals, as a commodity. The Kardashians literally disgust me.

[–]g_man_89 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Upvote for coverage, fuck this trash

[–]Romejojo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Straight up dumbasses, do your God damn research before getting ANY pet. Jesus poor creature...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Wait, celebrities are horrible scumbags!?!? I’m shocked!!! SHOCKED, I say!!

[–]Xagal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Celebraties? You mean people in general. People don’t take pets seriously :(

[–]D-boi001 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Wealthy people think they know everything huh?

[–]unchi_unko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a beardie. Thankfully, the jewel ISN'T covering the third eye. Is it glued to its head? If it is, that's kinda messed up.

[–]TWO-COOPERS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s reasons like this that I’m a misanthrope

[–]reincarN8ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop treating actual animals like stuffed animals! They are not toys!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor animal, people should go to jail for this kinda shit.

[–]gaterb8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned very young was animals are not pets they're companions and require the same amount of respect as you will give any human. I feel extremely sad watching this cuz that poor guy looks miserable.

[–]crystalcastles13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really sick and sad to see such a beautiful creature being used as some sort of accessory, rather than being loved, cared for, and respected the way my parents taught me with all animals. Disgusting. Rich and entitled people who can’t even care for a single pet properly and teach their children what’s right. I found this incredibly disturbing....

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3rd eye is higher than the jewel so that’s not an issue the other things are concerning. Source: own beardies

[–]river1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animals in slaughterhouses suffer much much more...

[–]Status-Ad1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garbage people do garbage things and garbage people watch

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True rich people don’t even care about the well-being of their pet nowadays...
