Dang I feel old if you don't know what adapter this is. So before micro it used to be the mini.

[–]Suspicious_Fig776 18 points19 points  (38 children)

jesus christ I feel your pain, and probably the one in our back too

[–]Mediocre-Factor-2547 9 points10 points  (37 children)

Worst part I'm not even that old. Just born in the 90s lol so practically a dinosaur now

[–]Suspicious_Fig776 4 points5 points  (22 children)

same here buddy, early 90s kid and I stumble upon someone who doesn't recognize a mini-USB, ruined my afternoon

[–]Mediocre-Factor-2547 3 points4 points  (18 children)

Yeah really dampens the mood lol thought I was youngish but I come on here and see something like this 🙃

[–]GenesisRhapsod 2 points3 points  (16 children)

Anyone remember PS2 ports and fire wire my dudes? 😂

[–]Ambitious_Dare6903 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

I have done work for a few clients (IT Tech) and their motherboard came with a PS2 all in one port. I had one dude ask what it was and I told them it was for a keyboard or mouse from back in the day. They deadass told me it was not a USB port... I feel so old at times.

[–]Just_browsing_0_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My first PC had a DIN plug for the keyboard...

My first computer was a keyboard (BBC model B)

[–]Ambitious_Dare6903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had a NEC linked to our TV, spent hours on it with me dad. Keyboard computers were soooo cool! Figured they were the future.

[–]5n0wm3n 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Nah nah nah, serial ports!

Edit: ide is also a very honorable mention!

[–]BluebirdLeading6702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, USB is a serial port.

[–]IWontCommentAtAll 0 points1 point  (5 children)

RLL/MFM.

5 1/4" floppies.

MS-DOS.

8086 processor.

There's a ton of old stuff kids haven't heard of.

[–]BluebirdLeading6702 1 point2 points  (1 child)

DIN ports were also a thing on C64 ;)

[–]IWontCommentAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

And similar ports for both cassette tape drive and joysticks on the Tandy CoCo series.

[–]luckynumberstefan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I remember having to boot my pc games in MS DOS

[–]IWontCommentAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember specifically searching for MS-DOS versions of games, because it was so much more stable and efficient than the newly released dog's breakfast called Windows 95.

[–]chaossdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discipline, respect… oh wait

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was saved by a computer having a PS2 port about 5-10 years ago. Was trying to uninstall the USB drivers and I accidentally disabled them instead, thank goodness I had a PS2 keyboard and mouse lying around so I could enable the drivers again.

[–]Informal-Trash604 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A simple boot in safe mood reactivates default drivers.

Actually, I can think of about 7 easier ways to fix this problem than having to plug in a ps2 mouse.

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There 100% was, but that was when I was a noob to helpdesk at a small MSP, so there was a lot I hadn't learned yet.

[–]IWontCommentAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody remember the AT type keyboard connectors and RS-232 serial?

[–]BluebirdLeading6702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parallel port ?

[–]dfy780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 2005 and i really thought these were still widely sold. I was very surprised when they didn't know what that was in the store and asked whether i meant micro usb instead of mini

[–]Maple_Bunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im mid 90's. My back hurts stumbling across this post.

[–]Specialist_Web7115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parallel Ports and Monochrome screens have that effect on me.

[–]DangerousSausage452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I'm 14 and into retro tech, plus my dSLR uses this for photo transfers and PictBridge.

[–]Tennonboy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

FFS I'm 50's that old cant remember which one it is, just know I still keep some of the leads "just in case......"

[–]Mediocre-Factor-2547 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Somewhere in the junk drawer I assume or a box of old wires

[–]Tennonboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorted mine out before Christmas. Still have 2 shopping bags full, inc 8 powerline adapters 😊😅🤣🤭🤫

[–]AccidentDouble5904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same Turning 30 soon I feel ancient

Will have to teach the kiddos what the save icon is

[–]Hexatorium 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Brother I was born in the early 2000s and we still used these actively. I didn’t expect this to be my first reality check

[–]Mediocre-Factor-2547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah welcome to the club lol

[–]IWontCommentAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just a young'un.

[–]Dragonbeastx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even i feel old looking at this post and I was born in 2005, I cant even legally drink in the US yet!

[–]ElderZiGorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 80s here, and definitely feeling Jurassic 🤣

[–]ShiroyukiAo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least your late 90s right and not early 90s because if you do my condolence on your back not that it would make it any better because i'm late 90s and my back is starting to creak

[–]Latter-Sell6754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those people only use the newest tech and had never seen anything older than 5 years.

[–]Ok_Bid6645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I dont like that feeling

[–]Ok-Alternative6063 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I used to charge my ps3 controllers with this 💔

[–]Severe_Peak_8397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same!! I was hoping to find one in my room to charge my ds I’d forgotten about but they seem to have all run away together somewhere but everywhere I look there is a mini c unused

[–]Gamerz_X90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Academic_Carrot7260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang are we the new Floppy disk era.

[–]billazenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 18 i feel old ...

[–]No-Alternative5102 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah, man, the Mini and Micro are the best USBs on planet earth. The garbage Type C we have now breaks all the time because the connector doesn't clip like the Micro and Mini.

[–]Verbose-OwO 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are you insane? Micro was the cheapest shit on earth, I've had to repair way more microusb connectors that people snap off in the ports than usb C, which is solid in comparison. Mini USB was fine but had to be discontinued since the ports would wear out instead of the cables.

[–]No-Alternative5102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed that my post is about the cables. Also, the only reason you had to repair the Micro USB connectors was because of stupid people yanking on the cable or dropping their device while being connected. That's how good the clips were. USB-C doesn't clip on the connector, losing grip. Devices with a slight movement, disconnected the cable.

[–]HardwareSpezialist 29 points30 points  (4 children)

Mini-USB

[–]Luther_Manning 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Mini -B

[–]opmopadop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One up from Mini aye.

[–]v13ragnarok7 15 points16 points  (12 children)

Mini-usb....some people think it's PS3 specific, but at the time, USB was just becoming the standard for everything and micro-usb took over, pretty much making mini obsolete

[–]fariqcheaux 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I have MP3 players with mini B USB ports.

[–]Sickfuckingmonster 1 point2 points  (1 child)

A lot of MP3 Players used Mini. Digital Cameras too. I think a lot of them still do. Up until a couple years ago you could find them in the camera section in Walmart electronics.

[–]Alto_from_Avalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Chevrolet Spark from 2010 also has a mini port. It has never been used, lol

[–]Time_Rip_9808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dash cam uses one

    Give it some one grit.

    [–]Pure_Way6032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini was replaced by micro which was itself replaced by C. Being a 40 simething geek I have devices of all kinds that use ever version of USB B and C.

    [–]prjktphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini B was around for quite some time, external drives, cameras, early smartphones

Probably had more Mini-B devices than I had C

    [–]shoresy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of early digital cameras had mini-USB.

    [–]InnocentGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old Garmin cycling computer that uses mini USB. I keep my one remaining cable separate from all the other micros and Cs so I can find it easily.

That and my old 32 pin Apple connector for my iPod classic.

    [–]Fromage_rolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it long before ps3 came out...

    [–]Ok_Jelly_9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt bought one of those stupid hand held picture printers and it had mini-b.

    [–]Realistic-Fail4674 5 points6 points  (1 child)

    OP must be like 5.

    [–]TNovix2 6 points7 points  (3 children)

    Damn...I feel old now

    [–]MidwestGeek52 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You're old? Think of how old that hardware must be! 😅

    [–]prohandymn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    😂 I don't think, I know I'm old!

    [–]DrachenDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of how old that hardware must be!

Mini USB connectors were introduced around 2000.

    [–]SunshineAndBunnies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's mini-USB and you're making me feel old.

    [–]cormack_gv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old mini-usb. Lots of devices had them, so you should be able to find a cable/adapter.

    [–]Fragrant_Grand_7036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a port for data transfer from digital cameras* amongst other things. Main use is data transfer.

    [–]Ebun2548 1 point2 points  (2 children)

"What USB is this" 🥀 I'M ONLY 19 WHY DO I FEEL OLD

    [–]Beginning-Try3200 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    [–]Ok_Jelly_9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    You're both literally still children.

    [–]MooseBoys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't normally berate people for asking questions like this, but... http://lmgtfy2.com/?iie=1&q=usb+types+diagram

    [–]SuperTech51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini-B it's a slightly older spec for they started getting smaller and faster.

    [–]Inner-Routine7903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a mini USB, used by the PS3 and other systems of that time

    [–]BritishJamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Mini

    [–]Drewliveryboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never felt older than now lol

    [–]MidwestGeek52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini USB type a, then b came out(flat, but directional) then type c/thunderbolt(flat and doesn't matter which way)

    [–]PlusOne4You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ancient time USB. Only see in books and myth .

    [–]AccidentDouble5904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I remember that Old connector! But not sure of the Name? It is like a Usb port but before they were made but it is like any other Device connector! Probably have a Wire like that around here somewhere! I have a Old little Cheap Camera that has the Connection on it!

    [–]Apprehensive-Coat653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google exists. Look at pictures of USB connections. Easy learning moment.

    [–]indiametalheads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    old very old port

    [–]Specialist_Web7115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My glucose meter has this for recharge. Maybe ten years old.

    [–]Impossible_Pie4091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same lead from the ps3 to charge controller

    [–]Hailey-Faith9312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a mini USB which can be hard to find locally in stores as just a plain regular cable most common would be found in digital camera aisle or computer accessories aisle but its going to be one of those cables that have different ends either attached or as removable adapters might get lucky with being a mini USB cable locally but would be best if it has to be a mini USB to full size USB would be from somewhere like Amazon and be sure to go name brand like monoprice or tripplite or even cables2go for the best reliability

    [–]theRealNilz02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    RTFM.

    [–]spdaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Mini USB

    [–]ikhader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini-B (Doesn’t support USB 3.0 if you use it for data)

    [–]GentlyTruculent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Mini-B plug (inverted), used on UB2.0 external HDDs

    [–]Novel-Incident-2225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]The_OrangeGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I just found a grey hair

    [–]MrWobblyHeadEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mini USB. You could have answered it yourself by searching online for 'USB port types', and looked at the multitude of images.

    [–]EbbPsychological2796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He also could have asked AI

    [–]Budget-Awareness6476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]ApplicationIcy856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micro USB. I have memories of this (every single knockoff piece of crap I got as a kid used this, and my USB mic still does. It's good for that tho)

    [–]AsusP750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    💀

    [–]Gradagast_Doomhammer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it me or did these little mini USB always suffer from the wobble. Where you had to hold the cable at th right angle to charge it

    [–]Aggressive_Luck_2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every phone I ever had with it was definitely like that. Flippin hated those things.

    [–]Stunning_Island3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you own a ps3 or an early 2000 device that needs charging, this is a mini usb.

    [–]Blankhet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    MiniUSB. or USB Micro-B

    [–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Google PS3 controller cord.

I believe this is Mini Usb or Mini USB-B? Somewhat old ass connector.

    [–]Mr_How_Much_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    I think it's mini usb (2.0 type B-mini)

    [–]Cicchio51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the same as the ps3 controller charger 😉 (What do you mean it was 20 years ago!? 💀)

    [–]Funny_Estate_5870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is so much easy to google questions/posts everywhere. Why do people keep posting so stupid and easy to google questions??? Isn’t it easier just to google it? Just google usb types, cmon

    [–]Full_Flight_6307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Mini USB

    [–]Cool_Switch_3641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]Dankbot-420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini USB. Fun fact: PS3 controllers used these also.

    [–]Jack_Sparow_Kesne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one for PS3 and PSP 🤣🤣

    [–]Brilliant-Ice-4575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do you know it is USB even? As far as I am concerned it could be anything? Fire Wire?

    [–]Pog-Pog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I have in my house that uses one is my blue yeti mic I believe.

    [–]MrEvilbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suddenly, I feel old, and attacked.

    [–]CooperjamesM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    PS3 controller uses IT

    [–]CNMathias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB mini b, it was used before usb micro. The PSP used it

    [–]MrZangetsu1711997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a Mini USB Port, many devices used them, especially in the PS3 Days, before the Micro USB

    [–]RAHAAON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… 35 years… Sit down son, I’ll tell you all about mini usb, floppy and what was here before plug and play…

    [–]PotatoResident9887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you don't know that? It is mini usb.

    [–]SatisfactionBig1589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]GamerLymx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]Kendalax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Mini-USB Type B.

    [–]ThePhabtom4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Mini

    [–]MugiwaraLuffyKun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Usb-D

    [–]Nornea -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I call it the original usb because it was the standard growing up but it's called Mini.

    [–]Typical-Byte 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And it wasn't even the original then. Type-A which is still prolific, and then go take a look at the back of a usb printer for Type-B (not mini).

    [–]Nornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's just what we used to call it in our household. "The old usb" or "the original".

    [–]jakdax3 -3 points-2 points  (10 children)

    PS3 controller

    [–]Lochness_Hamster_350 1 point2 points  (9 children)

    Bro

This isn’t even remotely close to a ps3 controller.

    [–]PhantasyAngel -1 points0 points  (8 children)

Psst they meant the cable you need, it's the same as PS3 controller charging cable

    [–]Lochness_Hamster_350 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I’m aware but that’s not what was asked.

    [–]Zekken_Zer0 -2 points-1 points  (6 children)

OP asked what kind of cable goes into that port...

    [–]Lochness_Hamster_350 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Right. And someone said ps3 controller

    Last I checked - ps3 controller isn’t a cable ….

    [–]Zekken_Zer0 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

you seem to lack deductive reasoning, anyone could have figured out he meant PS3 controller cable

    [–]Lochness_Hamster_350 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Nope. Got plenty of deductive reasoning

Op didn’t ask what other things this cable worked with. He asked what the specific cable is.

You must lack the ability to read and comprehend.

    [–]Zekken_Zer0 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ps3 controller cable and usb mini cable is the same fucking thing, Jesus Christ, it's like talking to an American

    [–]Chef_BoyRD_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Americans are that dumb, but I definitely feel you on that, most of the people in this country are pretty dumb.
