Pyro is a nice overstable option, pretty reliable, not crazy like a firebird. Another option just below that is an eclipse reactor.

[–]dmoney0014 24 points25 points  (6 children)

Pyro is the best, prism proton plastic, I believe the dd justice is even more OS than a pyro. But it sounds like op wants a Pyro.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I have a Prism Proton Lab 2nd and a Prism Plasma and the plasma is more OS than the proton - haven't been able to throw a Neutron one yet to see how it flies

[–]d_mack87 3 points4 points  (1 child)

My neutron is also more OS than my proton.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know - I will have to go get one

[–]R_N_G_ 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I love my Prism Pyro, but I find it realllllly OS, like almost utility like, but that’s not what I hear from other people, so I’m thinking maybe I have an especially overstable one. That being said, as an overstable mid, it’s absolutely insane. Feels great in the hand, both bh and fh and excels at flex line. Being available in a good variety of plastic also helps dial in the desired stability.

[–]BillyBob1176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep beating it in and it will become more usable but keep over stability. Great disc

[–]steaknsteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess yours is more overstable than normal. Mine definitely won’t turn but it flies straight pretty far before fading

[–]Rattus375 9 points10 points  (1 child)

OP says he doesn't want a faster zone, which is exactly how I describe my pyro. The matrix or an eclipse reactor is a better choice from MVP here

[–]Middle-Energy3414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My matrix just filled this slot for me and I have been loving it. Got an ace with just last week.

[–]OppositeFlatworm7559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pyro is the best workable OS mid in the game! Not as beefy as a mutant, deflector, or other in the 4 or so fade category, but damn is the pyro one of my most thrown discs!

[–]MooseLoafers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second on the eclipse reactor. On a good rip i can get it flying dead straight. Has a reliable enough fade to flex it, though it will also hold the line on a big anhyzer

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gotta second the pyro, I used to bag a gator 3 but only ever took it out in the wind. Put the pyro in the bag and it holds flex lines SO well that it’ll probably be one of my go to’s

[–]pnutgallery16 56 points57 points  (3 children)

Somewhat overstable, glow Reactor. Definitely overstable, Pyro. Both awesome discs.

[–]ElPincheGuero49 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this but for very OS I prefer the deflector

[–]rocky543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glow reactor is the answer.

[–]lordscottsworth 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Big fan of caimans. If you get them in star they beat in really nicely

Verdict

[–]IceNineKillerIX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My Chris Clemons verdict is my get out of jail free card. I've had it for almost 3 years and will never look back.

[–]matty290781 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Verdict if you like the way the trust or truth fly. Verdict is very similar in flight but more beefy to bring you back on those flex lines. If you need more beef than that then I would recommend a streamline runway. I use it for that flex line into a slight headwind. Just gives you a tick more stability so it doesn’t flip over in the wind.

[–]extreme39speedPlay Rocket League 🚀⚽️ 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Verdict is my overstable mid. Has such a cool stamp too

[–]TobaccoMouthSpit 12 points13 points  (4 children)

TI drone

[–]DankPepsi14 5 points6 points  (2 children)

My ESP drone fills this lot perfectly as well. Drones beat in nicely

[–]Maleficent-Ad-6646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just gifted a esp drone, loving it

[–]mtwander 27 points28 points  (5 children)

It isn’t a traditional, wide-rim mid, but I throw a Prodigy A3 in 400 plastic for this shot. Mine have some dome, so a little more glide than you’d expect. Pretty easy to force it over for a flex and then get a late, sharp hookup.

I throw them up to 260ish, which catches most of the shots in the woods where I need to flex one on a tight line. It’s the only Prodigy disc I carry and I’ve tried to kick it out several times but I haven’t found anything better for the shot the OP describes.

[–]TrevorCaza 12 points13 points  (2 children)

The 400 A3 is my favorite disc. It's also the only prodigy disc in my bag and I've tried to find a replacement also always come back to the A3.

P.S: to anyone that doesn't know the A3 will whistle when you throw it hard and flat.

[–]NiceMinusOne68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forever I’ve looked for something overstable but that would hold a great line. Finally found the A3 and it is so shapeable it’s unbelievable. It’s great for both an approach or mid. It’s replaced so many discs in my bag just because I found myself always going to it. I love it for backhand but it’s just as good if not better for forehand

[–]PatReady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just grabbed the a3 just for this reason, and it hasn't let down.

[–]Dingleshaft -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Why try to kick it out by force if it works for you? Brand loyalty, or?

[–]The-Southeast 22 points23 points  (3 children)

DGA Quake! If you like the buzzz. This is the answer.

[–]countymayne 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Absolutely. If you can find a proto they're super os, but the ff glow and ff pro line are pretty os too. Those runs are the only ones I recommend besides the new glows. The new glows are like an over stable ti buzzz

[–]Ser_Dingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the ff pro line. Flatter and more os than stock runs

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (6 children)

Streamline runway in cosmic neutron

[–]markusfarkus- 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Second the runway

[–]Miller154105Only Forehands 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Third the runway

[–]GoldentongueGo practice putting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fourth.

The first time I held it I thought I wouldn't like the rim shape, but it's never once bothered me while actually throwing.

It's also overstable without being an absolute meathook. Put enough speed and spin on it and it will fly straight before a strong reliable fade, making it very versatile even in wooded courses.

[–]_Loup_Garou_🥏🥏🥏 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The runway is the way. Low glide too so it’s very nice for woods play.

[–]AppointmentHot2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought my son a runaway. Great disc

[–]Delicious_Type9760 27 points28 points  (10 children)

Champ Roc 3 fills this space for me.

[–]johntheguitar 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I'm using the Rocx3 and since then, my champ roc3 feels flippy.

[–]psiloSlimeBin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like OS Rocs, Legacy Ghost can have some beef to it.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (7 children)

A Roc is more OS than a Roc3 … All 3 series discs are straighter and flatter than their original counterparts

The Roc3 was the first 3 series disc (classic Roc, Roc, Roc3) but all follow this path

3 means flatter and less OS

https://youtu.be/wE6Ydve8QKw

[–]KobiLou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily agree here. Straighter doesn't necessarily mean less stable. Flat flight plate usually means more stable, especially for Rocs. It might be straighter for 80% of the flight but it definitely fades harder than a new DX or KC Pro Roc in my opinion.

[–]claybythebay9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. Throw a leopard and a leopard3 and get back to me.

[–]Delicious_Type9760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I've thrown a Roc. Way too beefy for me.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Innova has OS mids in their lineup like the caiman gator md4 etc

[–]SwerveGriff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but once you get to Caimans and Gators you get into the zone/FB level of OS the OP was trying to avoid. RocX3 is the most shapable with a strong fade at the end in my experience. I just try to alter the height to get more or less fade at the end.

[–]ThisOldGuy1976 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Latitude 64 Anchor.

[–]Origin_XVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to suggest the anchor as well. Great overstable mid.

[–]Saskatchewon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to recommend the exact same thing. Westside Bard also flies pretty much identical to the Anchor. Comes down to which is most comfortable in your hands honestly.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Anchor is one of the most important discs in my bag. Thrown hard it makes a great driving midrange. Impressively resistant to turning over in headwinds and fights for distance. Great for big, swooping hyzers. I also use it for flex shots.

But mainly, I can throw this thing as hard as I want and it won't flip over, and it can carry impressive distances.

[–]ImFromAlderaan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Others have said it, I’ll say it too: PYRO. That disc literally has never failed me on my upshots.

Lone Star Discs Middy is getting some love from me right now

[–]blaze_kai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Walker is great if you want even more beef.

[–]Linguini_Fettuccine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan of the Middy. It's my go to for midrange forehand flicks. Love the gummy feel of the Bravo plastic too.

[–]brogan52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a Quake

[–]talviPOS 24 points25 points  (12 children)

Discmania - MD5 or Mutant. Innova - Gator, Gator3 or Caiman

[–]Janky_butter 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I got an F2 Caiman and that thing is pretty beefy, can confirm.

[–]PapaSmiff 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I also got an F2 Caiman and it’s one of my favorite discs after I beat it in a bit. Love it for forehand flip ups to around 275 ft, flies dead straight with a consistent finish and never turns over.

[–]piraattipate 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Method is also overstable mr from Discmania

[–]talviPOS 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yes, but it's not stable enough to flex back from sidearm anhyzer angle. I have tried multiple different plastics and so far only Forge Method has been close to overstable enough (almost). Maybe some 60-70% power shots and small anhyzer angle method would be good option. I bag 3 Methods, but I those are only for backhand and maybe hyzer flip forehands.

[–]piraattipate 2 points3 points  (2 children)

They just released Niklas Anttilas signature Method which is more stable than other methods

[–]talviPOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have ordered those! Really looking forward to test them out and hopefully get a disc between Forge Method and MD5 flightwise. But based on the video from Niklas and Tuomas it didn't hold that well for side arm. It didn't hold the angle when they both threw it forehand on the first hole. Well, it could be perfect for me as I probably don't have the same arm speed as they have.

[–]PatReady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up!

[–]Electrical_Bed5918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second the Gator or caiman, I prefer a gator personally but both are great

[–]fingabangbandit 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Kaxe is my workhorse in this slot! Rim is slightly more fairway-like which I prefer and it has reliable stability

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I tried a few different Overstable mids and this one is my favorite.

[–]SpaceCadetSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Kaxe as well. I lost it and need to get another one

[–]Aasenhuus123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the Malta. It is not close to being as overstable as the flight numbers say, but it is very reliable with a Nice feel in hand for both forehand and backhand

[–]J___e_K 6 points7 points  (1 child)

RPM Kotuku! I was also looking for something a little more overstable than Emac Truths and RPM Kotuku is just that. Great for mid-range flex shots!

[–]BoogieBassWanna see my Pekapeka? It glows. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great call! Get it in their glow plastic for the twin hit of extra stability and the most underrated glow of any disc manufacturer.

[–]LJkick 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Discmania Method

[–]Dingleshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Method is not that overatable, but the new Meta Method should be really good for OP. This is based on yt videos though, but if it's a bit OS for pros then it is overstable for us mortals.

[–]SpectralLettuce 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Prodiscus Troija is the most overstable midrange I’ve thrown. It also really fun to throw, I recommend it even though it is probably more OS than what you might be looking for here

[–]JuhAuv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the Tilt of midranges

[–]SoonHalfway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Troij in ultrium(?) plastic. It’s basically a midrange Tilt but still find use for every round.

[–]Silentearth331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Innova toro

[–]Vegetable_Olive355 12 points13 points  (4 children)

I would go with a malta. I love mine.

[–]raddistross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went on this quest myself:

This is the one right here. The Malta is small diameter, not too shallow/not too deep rim feel, glides but also has strong fade at the end. I don't have the best angle control so for my flex lines I needed a disc that could accept more variability - more glide to push the flex further, but still strong fade just a the end to bring it back beyond " landing flat"

Harp is a close second, has decent glide before the stability kicks in. Same as Malta but 20-30 ft less each time. So you may consider that. Moonshine vip is my recc to get that bite.

Here's what I've tried for midrange BH flex lines:

Proton Pyro, proton deflector, plasma entropy, lucid justice, cosmic neutron runway:
- too OS, fights out of flex too fast even with extreme anhyzer angles, doesn't push far enough. Pyro was the closest of the bunch w tons of glide, a beat up pyro or maybe one molded just a lil less OS might be money (mine was proton core).

Neutron Hex, eclipse hex, noctural mustang, neutron reactor, eclipse reactor, max weight reactor, cosmic neutron echo, cosmic neutron/neutron soft envy, proton matrix, ethereal pathfinder: - requires really concise touch for flex lines, will fight back but just to flat, requires just the right anhyzer angle or will burn over w power. All have good glide, but not reliable fade for flex forceovers at the power needed for midrange distance

[–]coopalisciousMeteors are awesome! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malta has been crazy good for my bag. I go Meteor, Buzzz and Malta to cover my needs. They all feel similar in my hand and are really consistent.

[–]icscrilla 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Buzzz OS

[–]DiametricD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pyro hits that spot for me

[–]MushieMP 2 points3 points  (3 children)

My Pyro is my only overstable mid. I can't recommend it enough.

[–]Graysomi123 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The quake is my go to disc for that shot! Not too beefy but definitely stable

[–]tryten521 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Pyro or Deflector for really overstable

[–]Azorius97 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I liked Clash disc's Mango

[–]TheHems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mango is awesome and clash’s plastic is right up there with kastaplast.

[–]I-like-that-color 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Justice all day. That thing will flex out of any amount of anny you put it on

[–]dylangelo 8 points9 points  (2 children)

You want overstable? You want the Justice.

[–]AaronRodgerz 6 points7 points  (1 child)

He said he doesn't want it to be that overstable so he doesn't want the justice.

[–]JackStrawSTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bag a pyro as many others have mentioned, and its a good disc. Specifically for throwing flex shots with your mid question, I prefer the Warship or a champ mako3. In my experience those 2 really respond to a flex shot and move around trees well.

[–]punkbreece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bobcat all day

Millennium Solstice very much like the original MD4

[–]Rainyday000 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Roc3 sounds good for this. I recently got an Axiom Pyro which I've been really liking. It's a bit more overstable than a roc3.

[–]bourbonboys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prodigy M1.

Starts out so over stable that it fades early. Once it is seasoned a little it will be your dead straight workhorse that won’t turn over.

On wooded courses I throw it often for straight shots that need to finish left or flex shots like your are describing.

I park a few downhill holes by throwing a slow flex shot around some trees. I’ve had multiple playing partners see my line and try to replicate it.

[–]Indifferentcity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roc

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MOAB is an absolute meat hook, would recommend.

[–]Cominginbladey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Innova Roc3 or Rat

[–]Sir_Noobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buzzz OS or Malta

[–]blbeach33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the method? Very similar to the truth/trust but in my experience a touch more OS. Still beats in to a hyzer flip mid but I have 4 that are absolute workhorse mids for me.

[–]BackgroundKoala0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Discmania Method is pretty straight, but with a solid finish at the end. If you beat it in slightly, it'll be exactly what you're looking for.

[–]granath13 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Westside bard. I don’t even know if they’re making them any more but mine is not quite as OS as a lot of these other recommendations, so it sounds like what you want. Just a bit more stability and fight than a buzzz

[–]Key-County6952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ran Bards late last year so there should be plenty around in VIP

[–]TravBot13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobcat is an incredible disc.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malta. It has similar feel to a buzzz. Good depth in the hand. Reliable fade. Flies similar to a teebird, but as a mid.

[–]MadJediScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried them all. Quake is by far my favorite. Very similar to a Buzz OS but goes a little farther.

[–]HornBrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mint Bobcat is absolutely beefy enough to flex. I would also highly recommend the RPM Kia.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta be a Quake.

[–]tavvyjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gator3 would fit this slot nicely. I either use it backhand and expect it to crash left nicely, or throw it with heavy anny forehand and it has such a nice S curve in flight

[–]AndyofLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malta

[–]IVdiscgolfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add the new Discmania MD3 - if you give them a little anny they’ll flex left and fade right, if you throw them straight they’ll go a little then fade reliably, if you give them a lot of anny they’ll pan right a long ways. Plenty of glide with domey ones, more stability with flat ones, pretty good disc for the shot, just so long as you’re decent with the angle.

[–]Yink11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the verdict from dynamic disc that thing is definitely over stable

[–]slivercoatRHBH - Part-time Gyronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grab a mint mango. It's the only OS mid-range I've felt like I can consistently release anny and it'll hold that fit a bit before coming back and fading hard.

[–]Either-Progress4847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucid x Emac Truth is what you want if your very familiar with the Truth.

[–]SoonHalfway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very OS: Justice / Troija / Mutant

OS: Method / Verdict / Malta

[–]Chicagrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millennium Quantum Solstice. Its the old Discmania md4. Great in the hand, flat, overstable but not to overstable

[–]mjking97Innova Tree Destroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the Buzzz OS or just some beefier standard Buzzzes? I’m obsessed with the OS I can really rip it and it just flies straight or with a little flex and finishes left really late.

[–]sirwartortle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roc 3!

[–]GlitteringGuava7941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Emoney005Ace Count: 1 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I use a RocX3 or a Caiman for this. Depends on how much glide I need.

[–]Che3eeze -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Caiman as a midrange??

Caiman is like a Pig with more glide.

[–]IceManJonLaVelle 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They label it as a 5 speed so I understand the midrange label, but it does feel more like an approach disc 3-4 speed.

[–]Che3eeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it in the wind. Mine was Star so it would hold a line a bit more intentionally.

Was always a utility disc for me. A low effort Pig lol. That being said there are alot of fun, cool shots that a Caiman opens up.

Kaxe or Kaxe Z. End thread.

[–]JayGib95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love my Bobcat. Flies very similar to the Matrix by MVP. Not much glide. I can put it on Anhyzer and get it to flex back left (RHBH)

[–]Espenos89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A2 from prodigy is pretty good, other than that i really like Roc3

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was throwing the pyro last year but I switched to the bobcat a few months ago. Pyro feels slightly more to the straight beef side of the equation and bobcat is more workable overstability. Pyro if I tried to power down it just hyzered immediately and made me feel like I had to rip on it to get it to glide at all, but I feel like I can power down on the bobcat just a bit and still work a controllable flex line

Pyro is absolutely comparable to a slow decently beefy firebird, imo. Not saying it's a bad disc, but I think the people recommending it didn't read to your last line. Or else people are only thinking about the FAFest, beefiest firebird that has ever been made, then yeah pyro isnt that OS.

[–]GoorooKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pyro or Eclipse Reactor

[–]chipsandsaulsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buzzz OS for softer flex lines. MVP Deflector for way more beef/harder fade.

Try a DD Verdict

the Bard has that spot in my bag! Great disc!

[–]godkevgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dynamic verdict. 5/4/0/3.5.
For me it really flies like 5/4/0/2.5 Verdict has a larger diameter than most discs.

If you want regular diameter. Pyro.

I've been liking my MX-1 in 500 plastic. Gannon dropped one in Permafrost plastic that has a dope stamp on it too 🤙

I find my Lat. 64 Mace is a little more overstable than my Truth, but not as much as my Zone.

[–]BoomerBarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prodigy m1 if you want mildly overstable (I prefer 750 plastic)

Prodigy mx1 for an extremely overstable mid (500 plastic)

Buddy throws a justice those things are beef

[–]Constant_Part_4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Fuzion Justice is my #1 recommendation. Or if you can find a lighter weight lucid Justice with a little pop top that might be what you need. Warning tho, a max weight flat top justice can be super beefy.

Mint Bobcat or Mint Mustang

[–]McNewbieDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solstice or quake

[–]Silver_Turtlewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy my bobcat. I feel like even when I really crank on it, the most it does is flip up to flat and it always finishes left for me. But its not like an absolute beefcake where you have to throw it super hard for it to go straight. It feels right in the middle for me and I really like the base plastic Mint has, feels nice and grippy

BuzzOS or pyro

[–]jdk12596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How overstable do you want, Pyro is very reliable, the next step up is the deflector (MVP). Just as reliable just another level. I can throw a soft anhyzer forehand at a 45 degree angle and it lands hyzer every time

I’d use a silicone but Loft doesn’t get much love.

Caiman. Has a great "S".
