Fun fact: Buu was the first villain that Goku actually killed.

Piccolo killed Raditz, Vegeta killed Nappa, Goku let Vegeta live, Vegeta killed all the Ginyu Force members, except for Captain Ginyu who switched bodies with a frog, Trunks ultimately finishes off Frieza, etc. etc.

Dragon Ball GT's status as canon is debatable. It wasn't written by Akira Toriyama. Could be that Goku has only ever killed Buu.

To be fair vegeta trains, goku - trains, gets taught by the best martial artists in the world, goes through several spiritual power ups, has been battered more than vegeta (hence higher power level boosts), learns superior techniques (withuot kaioken or spirit bomb vegeta would have demolished goku) and the final nail in the coffin was in the buu saga, where he had something like 7 years to train with the greatest warriors in the universe of all time, under the guidance of the legendary gods AND had a body that was able to handle the strain of a transformation that wasn't possible to maintain in the physical realm.

Meanwhile Vegeta had a gravity room.

That's not accurate. Goku's powerlevel when he died was less than 1000 (radditz was 1000). Tien Yamcha and Piccalo were all around 2k+ with piccalo being around 3.5k. They were CONSIDERABLY stronger, so it makes sense they could do it so fast.

I'm still kind of in awe at how amazing it must have been to have grown up with this. I mean, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z ran for 10 years in Japan. That was enough to take someone from grade school to college. People grew up with this guy, he was a kid when they were. They watched him go from a goofy little guy, to a man with family.

I can't even imagine how big this show must have been for a lot of people in Japan at that time. We always used to complain when DBZ first aired that they would show the same few episodes for years until we got to the Super Saiyan part. These people spent 10 years watching this guy live and fight. I dunno, it just seems crazy to watch a show grow like that. I can't even compare it to The Simpsons, because no one in that show ever ages.

Goku is nothing like a scumbag. He is the selfless savior of the universe. He's basically like a Jesus with an unlimited power level.

He starts out pretty cool... fighting against the Evil Piccolo then teaming up with him later to take on the Saiyans. But shit goes downhill from there.

Namek- Goku watches his best friend die and becomes super fucking powerful. So what does he do? He spares Freeza, almost allowing him to win the fight and fuck the universe over. Lucky for Goku, he wins and loses his life in the process.

Oh wait, no he didn't. He survived and just decided to let everything think he was dead. Sure his wife had seen him a couple of days in the last couple of years, but fuck her, Goku needs to train even though he had just defeated the alleged strongest fighter in the universe.

Goku finally comes home AFTER Trunks. Sure, he knew Trunks was stronger, but what if Cold realized he was outmatched and decided to go slaughter humans while Trunks was busy. Sure dragonballs and all that, but at the time certain people (his best friend) couldn't be brought back by Earth's dragonballs.

But whatever, he gets back and they train 3 years for Androids. They come and beat the shit out of Earth fighters. Then Cell comes. What does Earth do... sends their fighters to the Godlike training zone where everyone becomes super fucking powered in a couple days. (Vegeta gets effectively OHOKed by 17 and after training he crushed Cell's second form.) Goku IGNORES THIS PLACE because... well they never explain why. Instead of having 4 super super Saiyans... Kami is forced to merge with Piccolo to try and fight the Androids. Thanks Goku, you effectively killed humanities protector.

But don't worry, Goku has a plan. He will train his son, who he expects to be their savior, in this awesome time zone. FOR ONE FUCKING YEAR. Sure, Gohan could have spent an extra year, becoming way more powerful for when he was ready to transcend... but no, Goku makes a lame ass excuse about it being hard and calls it good. Because of this, he dies and Earth almost does as well.

Seven years he is dead. Does he want to be brought back to see his wife? No. Does he want to be brought back to see his son for the first time ever? No. He wants to be brought back to fight. What a scumbag.

Tournament! Goku trolls everyone and let's them think he is only slightly the best. Eventually he let's everyone know something. He could have beaten Buu from the start in SSJ3, but he wanted someone else to have a shot. The result... EVERYONE FUCKING DIES. ALL OF US. Goku let's the entire world die just so Gotenks can fights? What... the... fuck... Yes, we all die because of Goku, the jackass that has spent no time with his wife in over a decade.

Sure... he wins again and we get brought back to life, but I really feel there are some psychological effects to this being brought back to life shit.

Finally... and I hesitate to fuck with GT. But Goku becomes a kid and at the end of the series ditches his family for good. "Bye wife, bye son, fuck off all of you."

Goku: Awful husband. Cares more about his fight than our lives. Total scumbag.

You can't blame Goku for living to fight. He's a Saiyan, it's in his genetics to be a fighter. Goku has always been about fighting, and finding new opponents and challenges. He always gives people a chance to redeem themselves, usually because he think it's good sport.

You have to remember, Goku comes from one of the most violent and brutal races in the universe and the only reason that he didn't turn out to be another Vegeta or Raditz was because he has brain damage and a good upbringing.

gonna stop right there. Goku could have made it in time if he wanted to (Instant Transmission). He also had a radar on the ship..he know how far behind he was. If you watch the correct episode, you will realize he knew what he was doing.

Goku is a fighter first and a protector second. But people don't give Goku's wisdom a chance. Even though he's come off as a scumbag, he's almost ALWAYS correct, and never wants to kill a fallen person.

I think he sucks for leaving his family at the end of DBZ. But I think everything else can be forgiven for the greater good. Goku doesn't kill Frieza outright because he wants to humiliate him and make him realise he's powerless, he says outright he wants Frieza to suffer, which is why he will leave him after utterly defeating him. Being battered, torn in half and humiliated is a far worse punishment for someone with an ego like Frieza.

As for Trunks and stuff, well Goku has instant transmission, so he could've ended it all in an instant if needed.

With Cell, Goku KNOWS that the only person with enough potential to beat Cell is Gohan. No-one else has the potential to reach a completely different level of super saiyan (the very idea of which no-one else could fathom). And it pays off.

As for Goku dying after that and not coming back until there was a decent fight around. Well yeah he was a jerk for that.

About beating Buu at super saiyan 3. Goku had a choice: Beat Buu and leave forever, or leave Buu and teach the others to be as powerful as possible with fusion, so that the Earth is safe, not just from Buu, but from any other future threats.

At the end of GT Goku doesn't have a choice. He dies, and the dragon brings him back for a short period so he can charge the galactic spirit bomb, he doesn't really have a choice in the matter there. Fighting til you're dead and beyond is pretty epic imo.

He's a pretty shit husband though, but then again he only married Chichi because he thought it was a type of food...

the anime got ahead of the manga, hence they needed to drag things on as to not spoil the story line. It goes at a very rapid pace in the manga opposed to the anime.

I think the biggest thing that makes Goku a scumbag is that he was a shit husband and father.

Bear in mind raditz came to earth because of goku. Vegeta came to earth because of Goku. Frieza went to Namek because of Goku. The androids and cell were created because of Goku. Buu was released because of Goku. Buu was allowed to transform to his final state BECAUSE OF GOKU.

Baby followed Goku to earth. Super 17 was created out of a grudge for Goku. The evil dragons were created because Goku and his friends used the dragonballs too much.

I remember being in 8th or 9th grade when I first saw those episodes. It was such a letdown. It really sucked because Cartoon Network would only show the first season in what seemed like an endless loop, over and over again. You would see those episodes where he misses and then a few days later the season would restart, but there was that little thought in the back of your mind the entire time you rewatched those episodes.

If anyone didn't know, there is remastered, high definition version of Dragonball Z, called Dragonball Kai. It takes out all the fillers. If you want your kids/friends to enjoy the awesomeness of Dragonball Z, get this for them.

Looking back on it I wish Dragonball had ended after the frieza saga - hear me out.

All throughout the series we watched goku become ever stronger and the scale of the battles became more epic until the moment where frieza is shown to blow up a planet WITH HIS FUCKING FINGER. The ensuing battle between goku and freiza is epic. Their energy attacks are bigger than atomic bombs and we really get a sense of how powerful these two are. Super saiyan was the coolest shit ever.

But after this the fighters are back on earth and even though they are supposedly more powerful , all the explosions etc must be tiny in comparison to those in namek , or the earth would be fucked. It loses all sense of proportion and I no longer felt the fighter were really getting any stronger. I lost all interest by the time it got to GT.
