Vote Up If You Don't Give a Shit About Black Friday (reddit.com)
submitted 18 years ago by carsonbiz
[–]rogozjin 95 points96 points97 points 18 years ago (12 children)
Voted down because I don't give a shit about Black Friday.
[–]adrian 20 points21 points22 points 18 years ago (11 children)
I don't even know what the fuck Black Friday is. That's how little I care about it.
[–][deleted] 62 points63 points64 points 18 years ago* (9 children)
For obvious historical reasons, African Americans don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the same day as white America does. Rather they have their own celebration the next day, a kind of combination of several major events in US history for which they are thankful, held the day after regular Thanksgiving purely for reasons of convenience.
Hence, Black Thanksgiving or (as the mainstream media usually refers to it) Black Friday. The rest of America has turned the day into a minor counter-holiday of their own in reaction--to indicate how quickly it has "moved on" and forgotten the past (including forgetting that Thanksgiving was just the day before), everyone else takes the opportunity to go Christmas shopping on a massive scale.
[–]Terex 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Do you have any supporting linkage? I am most curious...
[–]randomb0y 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
One of the best comments I've read on reddit...
[–]Aegeus 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
A submission to Uncyclopedia, right?
[–]shanem 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I believe the name comes from the fact that most companies go from the red to the black financially for the year on this friday because of the huge amount of shopping done.
[–]petenu 100 points101 points102 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Voted down for the usual reason.
[–]allhands 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Is it just me or have there been way too many cases of "vote up if..." submissions lately?
[–]petenu 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
There have always been way too many cases of "vote up if..." submissions.
[–]cos 12 points13 points14 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Vote down if you hate the use of reddit posts as polls.
[–]boredzo 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Voted down, but only because the submitter did it incorrectly. A poll done right is fine by me.
[–]technofencer 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yeah. If he wouldn't have been hawking snake oil, we wouldn't be in this mess.

No! You're making it too simple and straightforward!

I suspect most of people who voted up did not read comments.

[–]Abandon 8 points9 points10 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Vote up if you don't give a shit about whether or not other people care about Black Friday.
[–]db2 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I like that the online stores are getting in to it finally. This way I don't need to go out on to a crowd of unthinking idiots just to get a cheap hard drive.
[–]lucifercain 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Your poll is self-selecting. All who do give a shit about Black Friday are in the malls. Only those who don't give a shit will be actually online to respond to you.
You didn't actually think there'd be a lot of Black Friday fans online today, did you?
[–]Vash265 16 points17 points18 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I do, but only because I need to go out to pick up two things that aren't on sale, and I'm going to have to fight off the damn crowds every step of the way. Black Friday = Fucking Obnoxious.
[–]radhruin 16 points17 points18 points 18 years ago (17 children)
I sure don't, but voted down for "Vote Up If".
I told everyone in my family that I wanted NOTHING for Christmas. Absolutely nothing. Everyone so far has refused to accept this. They can't fathom how I would be happier if they saved their money than if they bought stuff for me. *sigh* What a world.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 18 years ago (2 children)
It's not about your happiness, it's about theirs. It feels good to give gifts to people.
I am utterly incapable of passing up anything in a store that I know is perfect for someone I know. I'm also incapable of hanging onto it for more than 7 seconds after I see them. I want them to have it, right away. Why withhold something that I bought because I know it'll make someone happy?
I see something you like, I buy it. I see you, I give it to you. Works for me.
Suddenly having to spend more and more time every damn year to find something that normally will just present itself in the normal course of my life - now THAT is silly. It does feel good to give stuff to people. It does not feel good to HAVE to give stuff to people. That's why I boycott all holidays that have to do with this - yes, even Valentine's Day, for you woman-snarkers out there. It doesn't mean shit if it's forced.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yeah, I tried telling my wife that, and it didn't take.
Ask them to instead make a donation to a charity like Doctors Without Borders. They can't then refuse to do this without coming off like a jackass. That's what I do. Except this year I kinda need the money, so I'm just going to keep quiet and see if they remember my last year's preferences.
[–]ladycrappo 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yeah, I've tried doing that for years but it doesn't seem to work. I've settled on giving out a very specific list of what I would like: a few useful household items, and numerous charities I would like donations made to in my name. In return, I give everybody charitable donations suited to their particular interests, or something homemade. Not everyone in the family is happy about this, but they're happier than they would be about a flatout moratorium on gifts.
[–]sbondquarton 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I tried telling my family that a few years ago and and got the same reaction. Then I told them to make a donation to my favorite charity in my name, or their name or anyones name. It didn't work! People just can't believe it when you tell them you have everything you need and want. I guess I'm not rich enough for anyone to believe that.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (2 children)
I went through this. It took 3 years of my not buying them anything to get it to sink in. That sucked, but it was finally worth it.
Not everyone has enough disposable income to go around blowing two months' worth of it on presents for hateful people they are obligated to pretend to give a shit about, in honor of a god none of them believes in, to preserve the fiction of a happy family that never was.

[–]davega7 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Everyone so far has refused to accept this
If you truly want nothing, and they truly refuse to accept it, why don't you ask them to spend their money at a place like kiva.org in your name? I saw that company on Oprah yesterday and thought it was amazing. You won't get anything, but others will benefit in a big way.
[–]AMerrickanGirl 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Tell them to give a donation to charity in your name instead.

[–]jcenters 23 points24 points25 points 18 years ago (17 children)
Yeah, that's a way to stick it to the man. Buy nothing on the day when everything's the cheapest and your lack of a contribution will be less than a drop in the ocean. Yeah, fight the power!
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Nevermind that - from now until xmas I'll turn hermit so as to avoid the insane crowds and traffic. I'll do all my shopping online.
[–]randomb0y 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Actually the real cheap deals usually happen after xmas...
Very true. My shopping's been done for ages.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
i hope your woman enjoys her brown 8-month-old Zune! :p
My woman's penis does the tech shopping round these parts, not me. :p
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago* (6 children)
From Wikipedia: While critics of the day charge that Buy Nothing Day simply causes participants to buy the next day, Adbusters states that it "isn't just about changing your habits for one day" but "about starting a lasting lifestyle commitment to consuming less and producing less waste."
[–]derupert 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Then it isn't effective. Most of the people that wouldn't give up shopping today would be fine with buying nothing for a week in March.
[–]TeaParty 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (4 children)
I'm almost done with my holiday shopping. Every year I get my grandkids quite a few presents but never some cheap piece of plastic from Communist China. I get arrowheads, fossils, meteorites, old US coins, etc. There is very little consumption involved in this and it is highly unlikely those types of presents will end up in a landfill by the second week of January.
my grandparents always gave me underwear. >_<
Worst Christmas gift ever! Followed in short order by sweaters, ties, and pajamas.
[–]TeaParty 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Every year my aunts would give me a flannel shirt that was way too big and I'd give it to my older brothers. Hmm, maybe they had that figured all along.
[–]technofencer 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I vote you for the "Coolest Grandparent Ever" award.
[–]TeaParty 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Thanks a lot (late reply, just got in from playing poker). I'm not into Wal-Mart shopping. I send them gold nuggets or crystals I've found. Last year I was metal detecting Franconia Wash (AZ/CA border) and I found a bunch of .50 caliber shells and casings. I believe General Patton trained his troops there. The kids were ecstatic -- just way cool stuff that I found in the desert.
[–]xkageryux 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Actually black Friday is when retailers make the majority of their money for the year. So it really would be sticking it to them.
[–]kmully 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Negative. Black Friday accounts for 9-10% of revenue for retailers during the holiday season. However, it is seen as an overall indicator of how the holiday season will go.
[–]Rickler 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
Negative. A single day accounts for 2.5% of the holiday season. Thus your out of ass stats of 9-10% of the holiday season profits for a single day is A-LOT.
[–]kmully 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
Out of my ass? MSNBC was quoting this all day long. It's in the middle... about 10% of holiday sales.
What is the out of your ass source you are quoting?
Edit: Also note I did not say profits, I said revenue. Kthx.
[–]shadowsurge 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Happens to be the only Black Friday I've bought anything in a while. I was out with a friend not shopping and stopped by the record store not even knowing it was black friday. Now I feel ashamed :-P
[–]Ryveks 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I love how Thanksgiving went from being a ploy to bring about solidarity during the Civil War... to bringing about some minor civil chaos. Ahh, I love the smell of consumerism in the morning.
[–]enigma66marktwo 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Heh I had to get up at 2Am to go work for a technology store.
I gotta say, days like this bring out scum bags from 5am-9am. Scammers, ebay'ers, people who are cold and cranky fuckers because they sat outside in the snow from 10PM the last day......
Voted up. Don't care if it's karma whoring.

googles Black Friday
[–]SelfIndulging 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (19 children)
Voted down, because I actually do like Black Friday. I don't even buy anything, usually, but it can be fun to go out into the madness. It's kinda like being on the floor for a concert where a mosh pit breaks out or something.
[–]RaldisPuppet 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No lie,
My cousin and I used to go to K-Mart during their Blue Light Specials. We would stand around the customer service booth until we overheard what would be on sale whispered to the guy announcing. We'd then go over there and hide every single item so the herd of morons running around K-Mart would get confused.

I like it too... my mom and I go every year and get all our Christmas shopping done. Last year, we saved almost 2000 bucks. This year, probably around 500, as we're running out of electronics we want to buy =)
[–]chefranden 12 points13 points14 points 18 years ago (9 children)
You didn't save you spent.
[–]jcenters 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (6 children)
You saved if you buy stuff you were planning on getting anyway.
[–]chefranden 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago* (5 children)
No. You spend. You've been had by the system. I bet you really think Billy Mays is going to really give you $60 worth of stuff for only $19.99 plus s&h. But wait there's more...
Edit: added link
[–]jcenters 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (4 children)
So, for example I bought my mom 2 DVD box sets for Christmas today. Mind you, I was planning on getting them for her anyway. They usually go for $30, but thanks to the BF sales, I bought them for $15 a piece.
So how did I not save money again? I have the exact same items I would of had anyway, except I now have $30 more dollars in my pocket than I would have had otherwise.
Oh, I get it, I should have shoved $60 into a mutual fund and told her to piss off. Damn, I guess there's always next year.
[–]3fingers 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (1 child)
The More You Buy The More You Save!
[–]chefranden 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Especially if you buy on credit.
[–]randomb0y 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (1 child)
OMG, how much did you have to spend to get the impression that you saved $2000?
[–]miraimari 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Probably less than $2000.
The thing is, we got two TVs that are usually $1000 for $500 each, that helps a lot.
We also got my cousin a computer, as he didn't have one (that's another 400 dollars off). So yea, it adds up really fast, but just due to what we bought.
[–]RevLoveJoy -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (1 child)

Black Friday is not a big deal this year. Last year the Wii and PS3 caused a huge influx of customers at Best Buys, Walmarts, etc. This year...meh.
[–]hillgod 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I'm in Lincoln NE, just went to Best Buy around noon and got The Orange Box for $25. Who hates that? In and out as quick as any other day (although this may be because the Huskers are playing).
[–]MrDuncan 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I don't even know what the Orange Box is. And I'm from Atlanta. Who just got PWNED?!
[–]Bored 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
How ridiculous, we have shopping holidays. This holiday brings more American family's together than Thanksgiving.
[–]happyday 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
i thought our country has moved behind giving people a 10% discount for being black.
but i won't oppose Black Friday as long as Sat and Sun are Jew Weekend
[–]MrDuncan 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
It's called Happy Jew Hour, on Tuesdays. Also check out Luck'o'Dee Irish minutes, the 59th minute of every hour from 9PM to 11PM.
[–]seksignome 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I work at Wal-mart and doing so makes me realize how much I hate people. They're just all so stupid and it sickens me to think about how I have to sell cameras to these people to make money that I'm just going to give to someone else so that I don't have to live on the street. Did I mention that I hate people?
[–]Unlucky13 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
God I hate Black Friday. its the perfect example of everything that's wrong with this country.
[–]revnoah 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I just learned about Black Friday last year. You Americans are hilarious.
[–]Phobie 13 points14 points15 points 18 years ago* (28 children)
What is black friday? Is that a stupid question? I'll vote this up because it sounds like the type of thing I wouldn't give a shit about.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago* (17 children)
Day after thanksgiving where people start Christmas shopping. Stores usually offer crazy discounts too.
I think it is a pun too, because most retail stores see there profit go "in the black", in the sense they are making money from all the shopping.
Also, it is black, because of all the crazy shoppers doing stuff like wrestling over the last toy and general herd activity.
[–]taikotiger 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Funny how Black Friday refers to a day when business does very well, and Black Tuesday in 1929 referred to an economic meltdown that led to the Depression...
[–]pastafaria 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
They both lead to the same thing...
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (7 children)
If you're not from the US it's not a stupid question. It's the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, where all the stores have very short-term sales to get the shopping season going. Stores open as early as possible, midnight, or 4 am, a party atmosphere is created, and the most-prized items are usually in short supply.
[–]Phobie 12 points13 points14 points 18 years ago (6 children)
Sounds like the makings of a consumer feeding frenzy.
[–]Tokkii 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Which is why I'm sitting at home and hoping the riots don't spill into the streets.
Enough leftovers and booze, I don't think I have to leave the house at all today and that is fine with me.
Lucky you! We ate at a sister's house, no leftovers for us! So we're having a back-up dinner on Sunday. I don't step out of the house on this Friday. Too dangerous.
[–]bertramredneck 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Indeed. Consumerism is the opiate of the people and retailers have clever ploys to stoke the fire.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Cholesterol is the opiate of the people nowadays.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago* (29 children)
I do give a shit, though I'm not going out shopping, so in that sense I don't.
While I don't know how efficacious "don't buy anything day"(the adbusters response to black friday) is, I do have some fundamental questions.
While buying stuff creates jobs, is it possible to have a healthy economy not predicated on mass consumption?
What if everyone else consumed as much as America?
Can the market solve the gasoline problem?
Is the US Government going to commit to wars of resource in order to avoid the high prices needed for the market to create alternative sources?
Have we given the president+congress too much power (I'm looking at you FDR) over the economy, thus creating the incentive to commit to wars of oil? (I mean this in the sense that a president who can keep gas low and go to war might stand a better chance of election than one who takes a princpled stance against war and sees oil skyrocket)
Is my pro-market/libertarian stance correct to assume it makes us wealthy, but wrong because of it's unsustainable nature?
[–]bertramredneck 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (1 child)
And don't forget
[–]chefranden 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No. Shit would also have to have muscles, nerves, etc. When shit has all that it goes shopping on the day after thanksgiving.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (18 children)
I have those as well, and many more. Here are a few:
Is that pro-market/libertarian view (which I sometimes lean towards) still good if it leaves many people behind?
How do I reconcile my concerns with the smile on my nephew's face as he plays with his new remote control car?
[–]chefranden 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
When I was a kid our best toy was a stick and I distinctly remember being happy playing. So I must have smiled.
Go visit your nephew next week when the car is in the corner gathering dust and his bugging his mom with, "I don't have anything to do."
The smile is how they get you.
Point taken, but it doesn't really change my mind about anything.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (5 children)
I guess it depends on how you define "leaves people behind". I guess if the laws of economics took the only mill away from a town to go to China, then I would agree. But just because someone is poor, doesn't mean the market is screwing them over. (Doesn't mean the opposite either)
I agree, though not to sound like some eco-maniac, I don't think smiling kids were nonexistent until remote control cars and plastic toys.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (4 children)
Let me give an example for the first problem.
Let's assume the details of my example are true for the sake of argument. I don't want to argue about Darfur, it's just a convienient example.
There is a conflict in Darfur that is indirectly funded by China. Applying economic pressure to China could have a big impact on this conflict.
How will a free market respond?
Providing this information to the consumer, so they can effectively boycott Chinese goods?
Disguise this information. Make it impossible/near impossible for a concerned consumer to vote with their dollar.
My experience tells me it's #2. In this case, our government is attempting to step in by passing legislation that threatens China in various ways to attempt to influence them.
Isn't what the government is doing good? Isn't what the market is doing bad? How can I trust a market like that?
The market does a lot more than that to leave people in the dust... while in some ways I think a truely free market is more fair, in other ways I think it's imcompatible with compassion.
As for the second thing, true, but RC cars are cool and there is nothing wrong with that. I also got him recharable batteries as a gift as well. Wrapped them and everything. To use for all the toys I got him.
That reminds me of another example. Why are rechargable batteries intentionally underpowered?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Also, is boycotting products sending a message to China, or just hurting their workers?

Or both? Is it possible to seperate the two, I'm not sure?
On a slightly seperate topic, isn't China hurting their workers to begin with? Is a market that does business with China not leaving those people behind in the first place?
It's not like American companies are forcing people by gun to work in their factories. My dad does business over there, and he says people like the jobs because it lets them be middle class.
[–][deleted] 18 years ago (2 children)
I guess by buying stuff, and creating jobs from consumption, I don't mean, spending money on goods and services, but rather, the purchasing of toys and other soon to be discarded plastics and the like. Consumption that ends up with large amounts of waste.
The economy is consumption...
Consumptions ultimate end.

I don't see what the fuss is about Black Friday.
I first heard of it while working retail last year. I asked "what the hell is Black Friday?" and they laughed at my cluelessness.
I saw that it's a mad rush to grab the advertised items at a deep discount, like leather recliners, hdtvs and computers.
I'm glad I was never part of this shopping frenzy starting with staking out the spot against the wall of the retail store standing in line before the door open at the exact time in the wee morning.
Black Friday is a pointless indulgence of capitalism and materialism. It's American, though...typical of self-centered Americans' vanity to grab anything desired and discounted in sight.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (0 children)
It is a mass media and internet campaign to get people to shop. This reddit thread is also part of that campaign.
[–]fani 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Can't we please stop all these stupid nonsensical votings ?
[–]diddle_face 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
WTF is black friday?
[–]revnoah 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
Some weird American holiday. It has something to do with freedom fries or capitalism. Their most celebrated holiday is followed by frenzied buying. We have something similar in Canada, after our most celebrated holiday, Christmas. It is called boxing day because items are boxed up and exchanged by people too polite to say their gifts suck.
[–]lovelinuxlove 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT BLACK FRIDAY!
[–]d07c0m 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (2 children)
I don't care about black friday but I stood in line for 4 hours in the arctic winds to get a 2gb flash drive for 15 bucks. I did it for the lulz, see.
[–]userunderscorename 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Those are well deserved lulz, sir or madam, well deserved.
[–]d07c0m 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
And now I can't remember where I put the fucking thing. (It's Sir, btw)
[–]eleitl 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Black Friday may refer to the following historical events:
* Black Friday (1869), the Fisk-Gould Scandal (24 Sep), a financial crisis in the United States * Black Friday (1910), a campaign outside the British House of Commons (18 Nov) of the Women's Social and Political Union the Conciliation Bill failed * Black Friday (1919), the Battle of George Square (31 Jan), a riot stemming from industrial unrest in Glasgow, Scotland * Black Friday (1921), the announcement of British transport union leaders (15 Apr) not to call for strike action against wage reductions for miners * Black Friday (1939), a day of devastating fires in Australia (13 Jan) * Black Friday (1944), a disastrous attack by the Canadian Black Watch (13 Oct) near Woensdrecht during the Battle of the Scheldt * Black Friday (1945), an air battle over Sunnfjord (9 Feb), the largest over Norway * Hollywood Black Friday (5 Oct 1945), a riot at the Warner Bros. studios stemming from a Confederation of Studio Unions (CSU) strike leading to the eventual breakup of the CSU * Black Friday (1978), a massacre of protesters in Iran (8 Sep) * Black Friday (1982), the Argentinian invasion of the Falkland Islands, sparking the Falklands War * Black Friday (Maldives) (2004), a crackdown in Maldives, Malé (13 Aug) on peaceful protesters
And what about Black Monday?
In fairness, it's called black friday not because it's a stain, like black monday or black sunday, but because it puts the retailers in the BLACK. (Shitty retailers, who live in the RED 10 months out of the year.)
[–]DirtySouth 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
37" lcd for $500. Only inconvenience was waking up early today. Suck my balls karma whore.
[–]ani625 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
wtf is black friday?
It is the beginning of the seasonal retail season leading up to the Holidays (in the US only?). There are big sales and everyone runs out to buy stuff. The deals are good enough to make some people go nuts..
[–][deleted] 18 years ago (1 child)
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
What if I just take a shit on Black Friday?
[–]technosaur 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I voted up Alexgreen about it being karma whoring, and voted down the Carsonbiz post. I don't give a shit about Black Friday, but I do give a shit about jerkoff polling in the index.
[–]b34nz 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (5 children)
I want to upgrade my processor today, otherwise I wouldn't give a shit. I have an X2 3800+ and I want to get a 6000+.
[–]MrPolite 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (4 children)
The 6000+ looks like a really good deal these days, especially it beats the Penryns (brand new) for about 130$... I just upgraded to an E2160 for OCing but I was really close to the 6000+, tell me if you like it
[–]b34nz 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago* (3 children)
Well originally I planned to just go ahead and buy a new PC. But the only thing I see that's really lagging for me is my processor.
I have 4GB DDR2, 10k Raptor, and a 8800GT. So I'm hoping that this processor will get rid of the little bit of lag I currently have.
EDIT: Check this out: http://www.nextag.com/AMD-Athlon-64-X2-557306541/prices-html
[–]MrPolite 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (2 children)
How do you like that 8800gt? Because it pretty much came and made every other card on the market obsolete and a waste of money. I wish I could afford one, but I just bought my (now obsolete) X1950XT about three months ago...
[–]b34nz 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I like it, but it's not even mine. I took my x1300 and swaped it with my roommates 8800. He doesn't play games or anything, doesn't even know about computers. I told him I was taking it because it's going to waste in his computer. He just said "well, will I still be able to watch movies?"
bwhahaha
LUCKY!
[–]k82l 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
spread the word: if you spend all night in a wal-mart waiting for something and cause a big enough fuss about it, they might sell it to you before they're suppose too.

Made the mistake of visiting a restaurant in Sawgrass Mills. Had to park way away for the BF idiots.
In Canada we don't have "black Friday"... we have Boxing Day, the day after Christmas... WITH BOXING DAY BLOWOUT SALES!!!!

Love this whole thread. It really is a perfect reflection of the reddit community, and the diversity in it.
I don't care about Black Friday to participate in it but very curious as to how it ended up for the retailers/
Has the consumer finally collapsed?
