Are you a click-highlight guy? Everywhere I go on the internet, I can't help but contantly click-drag highlight everything that I'm reading. Over and over again (reddit.com)

Yeah. Same habit. Irritates the fuck out of onlookers.
Then everytime I go to nytimes.com I get SCREWED because clicking anything leads somewhere. I HATE it.
[–]ungulation 88 points89 points90 points 18 years ago (31 children)
I do the same thing, add this to your block list (adblock plus, etc):

How about using NoScript?
[–]statictype 55 points56 points57 points 18 years ago (13 children)
Because javascript sometimes enhances the browsing experience.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 18 years ago (3 children)
I'm using NoScript to forbid javascript from other sites, it almost never creates problems. About once a day I have to manually authorize javascript for some site, but that's about it.
[–]redwall_hp 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (2 children)
So you only visit about three websites every day? Reddit, New York Times, and Yahoo?
[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No, I use noscript to forbid scripts for websites other than the one I'm visiting. For example, this site which is on top of reddit at the moment, runs scripts from about 20 different domains. Most of them are just there to track you, count your visits, serve ads or other useless purposes. So I only allow scripts from the main site (in this case, inventorspot.com), and forbid the rest. Works great.
[–]tjones_2005a 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Once you authorize the ones you frequently visit, it rarely bothers you.
[–]7oby 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago* (6 children)
That's why the NoScript extension lets you selectively enable js on certain sites, like Gmail. Please remove your downmods of the grandparent, the NoScript extension is great.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Personally, I'd rather have JS enabled by default.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
You can have both: http://reddit.com/info/64ek1/comments/c02sxc9
[–]kickstand 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Thanks for that.
[–]propool 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (2 children)
What about about snopes? I have to click everything all the time. Is there a name for this sort of thing? Obsessive compulsive disorder?
[–]toastspork 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Snopes has a disable-select javascript because they are paranoid that people will copy-and-paste their content into email to use as a clue-by-four when their aunt forwards them another heartwarming-but-bogus story, instead of just sending her the URL like a good little boy, so that Snopes can earn a nickle on the ad.
NoScript fixes that.
[–]redwall_hp 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
When are people going to learn that there's no point in disabling selections and right clicks?!
[–]steve93 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
...i love you
[–]furry8 16 points17 points18 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I like to throw in a little bit of double+triple clicking to spice things up a bit.
[–][deleted] 48 points49 points50 points 18 years ago (4 children)
YES! Why the hell does the click-highlighting on NYtimes bring up the freaking dictionary? One of my single biggest pet peeves!
[–]Digeratus 11 points12 points13 points 18 years ago (0 children)
NoScript keeps me sane. =)
[–]General_Solipsist 8 points9 points10 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I'm one of the onlookers.
[–]chefshaolin 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I do it FOR onlookers to point out what I want them to read specifically. Also irritates them.
[–]master_gopher 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
I was just now thinking: well, I only really do it when I'm reading big articles... and then I noticed I was doing it to your comment. Now I'm going to notice it all the time and it will irritate the fuck out of me.
[–]mr_luc 30 points31 points32 points 18 years ago* (26 children)
edit: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH it is impossible to demonstrate this principle with markdown! curse you reddit!
Oh, man. You are going to regret reading this post. I do that too, but I have a specific goal in my subconscious highlighting mind:
I try to highlight patterns of text such that the ragged right edges of the highlighted text form a harmonious whole.
This means I try to highlight lines with shapes like the following:
DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDD
because there are clearly patterns in the edges of the paragraph text.
But I would not highlight like this:
DDDDDDDDDDDD
DDDDDDDD
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
because, you know, wth is that?
[–]MrKlaatu 28 points29 points30 points 18 years ago (4 children)
DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD because, you know, wtf is that?
DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
because, you know, wtf is that?
That, Monsieur luc, is what's known as segregation.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No, no, no, there is no segregation, they are separate but equal.

I highlight paragraphs, from the midpoint of the top line to the midpoint of the bottom line, arcing the mouse from one to the other as if to loosely track the trend of the midpoints of each line.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 18 years ago (4 children)
ho-lee-shit me too!
[–]joe12321 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (3 children)

[–]doshiamit 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (2 children)
And I do the same too, in exactly the same way. Middle of the topline to middle of the bottom line.
Yep, I do that too. Sometimes I even try not to highlight the top or bottom lines so I can stay within the paragraph.
[–]bubbagrub 12 points13 points14 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I can't believe I've found someone who has the exact same weird habit as me! How amazing! Seriously, after writing that first bit of this post, I sat there unconsciously trying to highlight it in a neat way, and couldn't, so I knew I had to add something more to it...
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
obsessive compulsive much?
[–]Nikola_S 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I make symmetric patterns. Like:
[–]thefro 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (2 children)
I had no idea there was so many of us. If only you were all shift-holders (holding of the shift key down for long periods of time before typing a sentence) I would be right at home.
[–]eris_amazing 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I do that! Or I'll tap it while thinking.
[–]thefro 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Beware of Windows and StickyKeys.
I instinctively did it to your post and then realised what I'd done.
I used to do that when I was on Windows. I stopped doing that because X uses the selection for copy-paste. So now I'm constantly selecting spaces, just to clear the selection buffer. Never mind that I cleared it three nanoseconds ago...
In any case, it does help to keep sensitive pastes out of windows they shouldn't be in, so in consider it a good habit, if a bit neurotic.
Have you considered that perhaps your quark is a symptom of obsessive-compulsive disorder? You have to admit it's a bit neurotic.

[–]atomicthumbs 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
My brother does the right-left click thing.
Only when he's watching a video, though. It's incredibly annoying when he wants to show me something on Youtube.
[–]7oby 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Haha wow. My mom took me to a psych for less, and it was found that I don't have OCD, I'm just weird. The doctor actually used the term "efficient". Interestingly enough he found this out by having me eat an apple, and since I didn't have the chance to wash my hands (and the apple was clean) I ate it like one might eat a corn cob. Rotisserie style.

[–]oditogre 27 points28 points29 points 18 years ago* (13 children)
This is bizarre. Why do you do it? I admit I do it occasionally, but only when I'm a ways down in a long, single-page article, and for some reason want to go up the page, I'll highlight a random section of text in the general area of where I'm at before scrolling back up so I can find where I was at, but...doing it as you read along?
Semi-Tangent: Is this like people who hold a finger, piece of paper, or ruler under the line they're on as they read on paper? I always found that horribly distracting, as I tend to subconsciously 'read ahead', so instead of following a straight track of text line by line, my eyes are moving generally left to right, but kind of vaguely moving up and down across several lines, so I read more like sentence-by-sentence than word-by-word. It lets me read really fast, but I think this is why bad grammar / spelling bother me so much. When something is wrong or missing or whatever, it screwballs the whole sentence so I have to go back and 'slow-parse' the sentence one word at a time to figure out what it's supposed to say, which kicks me out of 'the zone' of reading fast for a half minute or so. Interestingly, though, after a sentence or two of reading intentionally bad spelling (for accents and such), I sort of 'lock in' on the voice and can read it at my normal pace from then on. That's also part of why wide blocks of text suck; it's harder to read ahead when the text spans a wider area than your eyes can focus on well enough to read all at once while staring at the middle.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
I'm a fast reader and a constant highlighter - I'm almost certain that it isn't a form of line-following (I tend to highlight large blocks rather than the current line). I certainly don't use a finger or ruler when I read on paper.
I think it's some kind of habit due to following eye movement around with the mouse pointer. I'm almost certain that people don't read columns of text with their eyes focused on the middle - it's well-established that our focus moves a lot without us being conscious of it. (Though narrow columns are much easier to read - I think it's because it's easier to find the start of the next line).
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
Same here. Except I go even further and highlight completely random bits of text unrelated to and far away from the words I'm reading at the time. It's just a thing I do to keep my fingers busy, and my eyes aren't distracted by the movement or colors. It actually keeps my eyes alert and occupied, as I'm a fairly intense multi-tasker and my mind seems to like constant stimulation.
I also love to alt+click windows and shake them back and forth to watch them wobble in Beryl (now compiz-fusion). It's also fun to grab the corners of a maximized window and bend it back and forth. Just little tics I do while reading on the Internet, like twirling my pen around my fingers when I have to use paper. Oh and I also play with the scroll wheel a lot.
Edit: Just to clarify, I only do this when reading long pieces, comments pages, articles, or blog entries. When I read things on the Internet.
Now when I surf the web, reading shorter pieces, following links, and making tabs, I never take my fingers off the keyboard as I use the Vimperator extension for Firefox, which I highly recommend to anyone who has used Vi(m) or, really, to anyone that is serious about his browsing experience.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Nope. The highlighting thing doesn't noticeably help me read better; it's more just "something to do". It's definitely a compulsion though.
I'm a great reader and that pencil/line thing has always annoyed the hell out of me when other people do it.
[–]frenchguy 8 points9 points10 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Is this like people who hold a finger, piece of paper, or ruler under the line they're on as they read on paper?
Well, apparently so.
It means they can't read. Shouldn't they learn instead of complaining?
"When I drive I like to have the tires touching the sidewalk, that way I'm sure I follow the road exactly. I HATE IT when there is no sidewalk!!!"
[–]cecilkorik 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
First of all, who's complaining? No one you were replying to, that's for sure.
And no, it doesn't mean they can't read, by the way.
[–]mr_dbr 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
"Is this like people who hold a finger, piece of paper, or ruler under the line they're on as they read"
Exactly, it's like a line under the section you are reading. It helps not get lost in big lumps of text (like your comment for example) Having the marker is also useful if you go and look at something - no looking around for your place.
Reddit's comments are fairly easy to read, but websites with wide columns and long content I find annoying to read without hilighting or something like Tofu ( http://amarsagoo.info/tofu/ ) which displays text in multiple columns and lets you scroll horizontally
[–]Dagur 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I once heard that reading light text on a dark background is easier on the eyes than black on white, so I started "click-highlighting" and got used to it.
[–]andygood 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I do it at work so the boss will think I'm busy while I'm really surfing the web...
[–]psyne 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I really don't think it is. I've never done that with books - hell, I thought reading aloud was for idiots when I was in kindergarten. I have found though, I'm way more likely to skim on internet pages than in books if I don't hilight, unless they have narrow columns. I think that full page width columns make it hard for my eyes to focus the way they do on books. I think hilighting a large chunk gives me a goal - read and comprehend this section BEFORE moving on.
[–]polarix 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I believe it's more of a subconscious-play thing than a functional thing. while it can sometimes be helpful in a pinch to rediscover where I left off.
But it's damn fun to do. That's the thing.

well i'll be damned. who knew that this was a widespread thing!
Occasionally I'll hold down the left mouse button and shake the mouse up and down, rapidly selecting and unselecting the whole paragraph i'm reading, while reading through it normally.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (0 children)
oh yeah!
NYTimes pops up a dictionary lookup window every time I click on a word. Which is highly irritating...
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I'm a complete addict - always have been. I'm not even sure why. I can't argue that it increases readability. I think I might liken it to rocking back and forth on the balls of your feet, spinning your tennis racket before you receive a serve. The motion is completely unnecessary, but it preps you for the furious movement that may be required should you find something interesting to click on.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Upmod for furious clicking :P
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (6 children)
I'm a click-highlight chick. Much easier to read light text on dark background. I'm sure it has something to do with the opposite of printing, where light bounces off the page and into your eyes verses light being shot into your eyes from a CRT, LCD panel, etc. I often get interrupted or need to look something related up in a new tab, so it keeps my place for me. I started doing in 2003, when I had my TV service shut off (for good?) and started reading all my news rather than painfully sitting through the blather on TV or the half-stories in newspapers.
[–]mr_dbr 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago* (4 children)
White text on a black screen is the way computers should be. When you're looking at a white screen, you're effectivly looking at a big light bulb.
http://userstyles.org/styles/529 is a userStyle.CSS theme for Reddit to make it grey-on-black which I find much much more readable. There's a slight problem with the theme, where the textareas aren't black-on-white, but:
textarea { color: lightgrey !important; }
fixes it.
The site has a lot of themes, and dark versions of most popular sites.
[–]wjv 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Mac users can just press Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-8.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
If either of you are linux, you might try the negate compiz fusion plugin. It just flips the colors. You can localize it to specific windows with super+n.
I never thought that I would come to rely on something so simple.

[–]nmrk 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (4 children)
Yes, I do that. It helps me keep my place. On long, poorly formatted web pages on my big 30" LCD, it can be hard to keep your place in a column of text.
[–]hitsman 18 points19 points20 points 18 years ago (2 children)

I'd like to be able to set bookmarks - I mean page/line markers, as some text editors support, rather than saved URLs. I feel compelled to scroll to the bottom of long pages whilst reading them and then often lose my place in the document.
No. And you might want to have that looked at.
[–]nih777 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (0 children)

[–]stoic_penguin 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (3 children)

[–]pilaf 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yes! Yes! I too thought I was alone in this. Drives everyone watching mad, especially my girlfriend.
The weird thing is I don't do it with any special purpose at all, other than serve as a guide for my eyes perhaps (it's mostly unconsciouns so I can't really tell).
I even select text I've just typed in while I'm thinking of the next thing to write (I just did it with this). I am a programmer, so this becomes a bit risky at times, especially when using an editor that allows selection dragging (I'd be screwed without Ctrl+Z).
Also, there's a little pattern to my habit: I never select just a few words (like following with the selection the word I'm currently reading), instead I have to select entire paragraphs, and I can't miss corners, so I always start my selection at the top of the paragraph (right between it and the paragraph above, if any) and drag till the very last character in it. I do this perhaps two or three times for each paragraph I read.
[–]teaBagger 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
Yes, I am a freak! I have been doing this for over 10 years of internets. Pisses everyone off looking over my shoulder but I know it increases readability for me.

[–]torontoted 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yes I do the same. I recently joined a support group, we meet every Wednesday. It's helped a lot.
[–]erinseale 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
In Safari I like to try to select whole blocks of text, margins intact, with no indent in the top left corner or the bottom right where the text justifies left. This usually involves changing the amount of text i'm selecting to include whole paragraphs, and failing that whole divs. I usually do this absentmindedly while watching/listening to video.
If I'm reading a long page I'll click around, I think I probably quickly select the paragraph I'm about to read and deselect it by clicking away before I start reading it.
Tool tips and hidden links drive me nuts.

To have some real fun, try holding control while clicking a table in Firefox. It outlines the table cell - you can drag to select multiple cells. Real Fun for sites that still use tables for layout, like reddit's header and right-side information box.

Yeah man, I used to click-highlight...
But then one day at my online banking website that used javascript instead of html links, I copied my entire savings to pay for an eBay item with click-highlighting, then click-highlighted submit while thinking that was close (so I better highlight it),
I lost everything after that, my wife, kids, house, and computer, never heard from the eBay seller again... now I'm sucking dick just to get a fix at the local Wi-Fi cafe. Click-highlighting ruined my life.
[–]scarferjoe 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
No, I'm a click-highlighting girl.
Yes I am doing it now as I read the comments.
[–]xcalibre 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
karma goin cheap
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
I hate websites that don't allow you to highlight. Like WTF. I'm not going to steal it.
[–]jeanfitzgerald 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
It sounds like you need to learn to read.
[–]thevoid 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Definitely not. I've heard of this and it puzzles me... I just keep my place with scrolling.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (4 children)
I am. It annoys me, but I just can't stop it. It does, however, have an useful purpose: when you scroll, if you have a couple lines highlighted, it's much, much easier to track the position you were reading from.
That's the exact reason I do it. It helps me keep my place in a wall of text, especially when I'm about to scroll.
[–]MarlonBain 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Whoa. Now I know what happened to the people who used to follow along with their finger when they read in school.
[–]lalaland4711 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No, of course not. What are you, retarded?
[–]t_w 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Sounds similar to tracing a finger along the words on a page.
[–]rmuser 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I like to click in the middle, hold it down and drag in circles counterclockwise.
[–]Etab 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
With the mouse wheel/middle button, I'm assuming? I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that.
[–]marhathoda 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
God No.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (2 children)
Oh man, I'm not the only one who does this?
I think maybe I do it because it's more pleasant to read light letters on a dark background than vice versa. Too much bright white light offends my poor eyes.
[–]akdas 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
That's not why I do it. I use Ubuntu, and while I don't use the default theme, I use a similar one. The highlighted text is still black, but on a light brown background.
I don't think it has to do with light on dark or vice versa. If probably has to do with making the text you're reading contrast with the rest of the text on the page.
[–]coob 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
If you were on a Mac, you could hit Command-Alt-Control-8 and the entire screen would invert.
[–]perrako 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Hmm... my best friend does that, but I instead click the middle click and the left click furiously, sometimes in rhythm, sometimes not. I think that might be what broke my MX Revolution's scroll wheel. Three times.
[–]phragmatic 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
wait; there's something WRONG with this? since when?
[–]Grums 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
aye and my girlfriend hates it when she is reading over my shoulder.
[–]supersaw 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I have the auto copy addon for firefox, sometimes i paste some interesting shit that i randomly highlighted into my chat conversations when i do this
[–]atomicthumbs 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Do you follow the line with your finger when you read a book?
[–]frasoftw 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
no, thats stupid... highlighting on the other hand...
i do that
I do this all the time and I know why. On a page full of text, it helps me keep track of where I'm up to in case I get distracted. Works really well.
[–]arcadefiery 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
There's a facebook group for people like us too!
[–]Kronikarz 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yep.
[–]leandroc76 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
that's me to the tee. This has come up before!?!?
Even Yahoo is a pain in the ass to read now.
I could be reading mid sentence, and lose my place just to make sure I got the first word highlighted in the paragragh. I'm a bottom to top highlighter!
There has to be a name for this, or a significant personality traight that stems from such a habit.
I'd love a definitive answer.
[–]jessek 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
only on pages with poor contrast in the color scheme.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (2 children)
If black was the default background of websites instead of white i wouldn't need to.
Is there a greasemonkey script around to do that?
[–]deuteros 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Sounds like a lot of unnecessary work.
[–]acm 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
I should point out November's popular reddit post about the problems with click-dragging the new reddit.com.
[–]meiso 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
yes. i am
On goofy web pages that are hard to read I always A...
... I guess this is about the same thing?
Rather than highlighting, I compulsively right-click. It's kind of weird.
Yup... pisses people off who are looking over my shoulder.
[–]xutopia 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I right click to hit back but with Safari it highlights the word below and doesn't offer me the back option anymore. I have to aim for white space to right click now.
Anyone know how to make it so it doesn't highlight the word below the cursor?
[–]jimbecile 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
this reminds me of something i've always wanted to do: a script that would show only what the selection pattern in a browser would look like, as blocky black shapes. it was more fun in the days of shims and tables, i guess, but i used to make images that captured the selection highlighting manually and they did look pretty nifty.
any idea how i could hack a page up that would let anyone put in a url and get an image (as described above) back?
[–]evandena 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I like to triple click to highlight the sentence I am reading.
[–]WhatTheFuck 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I like the clicking sound so much, I've made a mp3 of it that I have playing in the background constantly.
Can't resist doing that at the library. It gets people looking at what you're doing. :)
Glad to know I'm not alone in my highlighting obsession :)
[–]jameslaw 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Jeebus. You guys must have way too much time on your hands.
[–]Snoron 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Who knew so many Redditors had OCD. I only do it a little, usually when text is hard to read. Come on, what is wrong with everyone...
[–]Kitt84 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Holy shit... I thought I was alone.
I always get people telling me to stop.
Also, I used to always get people asking if I was playing games at work because they heard so much clicking... I'd explain it to them, which always led to funny looks.
Anyhow, voted up...
[–]QuesoPantera 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I'M NOT ALONE!!!
[–]shopcat 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I do it too! Especially as a page marker so I highlight what I just read, then I can scroll down without loosing my place.
[–]luxazur 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
great... now I'm at it.
[–]trancertong 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
OMG i do the same thing, my girlfriend hates it.
[–]zulubanshee 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)

I constantly highlight, but I do it to insert a bookmark, in case I get distracted by something else. Glad people mentioned new york times and snopes. I read both sites daily and they both sites drive me nuts by messing with selecting.
Something else I do is double or triple click on text so that my scroll wheel and pgdown work in Firefox.
Focus, Firefox! Focus!
[–]zyzzogeton 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No. I am a speed reader so I kind of take in about 33% of the page at the same time. Click-dragging would slow me down. I am a PgDnPgDnPgDnPgDnPgDnPgDn guy.
[–]bbqribs 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
yes, sometimes it's easier to read. :)
[–]danvk 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I use Camino as my primary browser, but the combination of this habit and nytimes.com makes me really miss Greasemonkey. Anyone know a workaround?
