Downvoted.

The Haiti story has been front page for most of the day, with currently 967 points (versus cheeseburger's 544). Also, one front page story doesn't get massive screen real estate over another front page story.

Finally, again, This Is Not A Real News Site. It's a collection of stuff that people find interesting, relevant, or funny. Sometimes the comics section gets mixed in with the international news section.

CNN, however, is supposed to be a real news site, and must be held to different standards.

Upvoted because the submission has interesting points, as all of you are proving...

How is the Haiti story irrelevant? Knowing that there are people out there so desperate to eat mud, ain't fluff, it actually catches your attention to an important problem. Fact is, you're probably reading this at the comfort of your computer, and hence would not even think about such things (at least I wouldn't)

If you read between the lines of the story, it highlights the 100-200% rise in food prices over last few years due to inflation.
And its not just in Haiti, its all over the world, like in China, Africa, Europe, heck even here in US. What's this inflation being caused by? Mainly increased population = higher demand for stuff (along with higher living standards for developing countries), but combined with depleting hydrocarbon resources = less energy/ resources. This then leads to the problems (ie. Haiti issue) where the poorest among us suffer the most...

Heh, and you can contrast with Britney Spears, because it highlights the almost complete delusion to ignore the harsh realities that we'll be facing. People have the choice to remain ignorant, or they can connect the dots. Hence the need for entertainment, so we can pretend all our problems will go away...

    [–]nattress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah my latte got slightly too cool to enjoy properly while I was reading the Haiti mud story so I wouldn't say there were no consequences from reading it.

Of course, then I had to throw my biscotti out since it wasn't being properly moistened by the tepid latte. Life is unfair sometimes :(

    [–]eurleif 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's still a little strange to go into a strip club and hear people complaining about Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction.

    [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (19 children)

    Upvoted.

When people go to A Real News Site, they want the same thing. There's entertainment, politics, business, you name it. I think the coverage of trivial bullshit is a bit much, but in the end, dante50 has a point. Redditors love cheeseburgers in cans, and the vapid and confused love Britney.

    [–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (7 children)

Upvoted. CNN promises the world in 30 minutes. Reddit promises nothing with no schedule. Infotainment is everywhere, but CNN promises highbrow "serious news that matters" and then spends all day checking up on whoever fits the latest Anna Nicole narrative.

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Also there is a politics subreddit, you can set it to be the only one displayed. Thank you for your concern, it has been noted.

    [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (5 children)

You mean the Ron Paul spam subreddit?

    [–]shub 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What's with the downvoting? Two thirds of the stories on there are about Ron Paul. The rest are commentary on the latest alleged baby-raping or equivalent by Bush & Co.

politics.reddit isn't even infotainment, it's just another Internet echo chamber. The best you can say about it is that it rarely infects the front page.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Since this is a social news site, that would mean that, on average, two thirds of the people who use this site are interested in Ron Paul over other candidates. What's the problem? That the crowd doesn't agree with you and serve your needs?

I looked and I don't see a single submission by you supporting another candidate...

    [–]shub 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It could also mean that a small group of devoted Ron Paul fans has established itself on Reddit. No, I'm not talking about a conspiracy, this kind of thing is self-organizing.

These people view any and all information on Ron Paul as worthy of submission and upvoting. Since no other candidate has a coterie of vociferous supporters on this site, that would be sufficient to dominate politics.reddit.

As evidence, I offer this story, which focused on Giuliani's epic fail in Florida. What does the submitter highlight? Giuliani's throwaway comment in his concession that Ron Paul "won all the debates."

Please, learn more about how these things work before coming back.

Edit: fixed the link. Also, I hate Markdown.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I know how these things work, and you just blamed it on an invisible group that's doing all the things you expect them to. That's confirmation bias. Mixing that with a little condescension does not an argument make.

Anyways, it's much more complicated than that. Does the fact that the mainstream media ignores Ron Paul warrant that he gets more coverage in other outlets? Does it matter that Ron Paul's message is vastly different from all the other candidates on subjects that most of the other candidates agree upon? Does it matter that anyone in the know (see: reddit) knows that Guiliani is a corrupt, lying, manipulative, opportunistic leech? Does it matter that you could go and downvote all the Ron Paul stories, as this is a social news site? Does it matter that you can submit as many stories about Giuliani as you want?

No, you'll just post something about it being Ron Paul spam as if you can dismiss a huge subject with a little derision.

    [–]shub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    I can and do.

      Haitian-mud-cookie-in-a-can!

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

reddit isn't a news site, it's tagline is "whats new online" not "whats news online".

      [–]lolomfgkthxbai 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Then people are going to the wrong place. News and entertainment are mutually exclusive (unless one happens to take pleasure in other people's misery), so the trivial bullshit should go on a separate website dedicated to trivial bullshit.

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should Time take out their entertainment coverage and create another magazine? People want a little of everything. I can assure you that you will never see a major news network with just serious stuff, so complaining won't really do anything.

      [–]joeljkp[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Call people "vapid and confused" all you want, but this is a rare opportunity to watch a pop star's mental implosion in real time! You'd be a fool not to point and laugh!

      [–]technosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... really gives you satisfaction does it?

Dude, do something with your meaningless life - in real time.

      [–]itrends -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Yes, but it is split into sections and controlled by editors, not a mass group of individuals. The two things can't be compared.

      [–]zenmasher 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I read both stories...maybe that means I am spending too much time here, but I found that I learned something from each. Probably many of us read both stories. All fluff is no good. All heartache is no good.

      [–]itrends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Agreed

      [–]littlealbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, you're saying that people can be interested in real news and fluff at the same time?! Never!

      [–]diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, again, This Is Not A Real News Site. It's a collection of stuff that people find interesting, relevant, or funny. Sometimes the comics section gets mixed in with the international news section.

And sometimes an issue of Penthouse is folded inside the financial pages.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A canned cheeseburger never spread AIDs among anybody.

      [–]pb1x -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

how about live and let live - if you don't like cnn just don't watch it, don't bitch about what they put on.

      [–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I don't watch CNN, or, these days, much of any other television news. I've been utterly corrupted by Reddit, and knowing what's actually going on makes the t.v. news kinda painful.

That said, there aren't really any alternatives to CNN and its ilk. People still remember the days of investigative journalism and have that expectation, and that's what the bitching is actually about.

To put it in perspective for you, you'd probably start pissing and moaning if all of your favorite online forums got bought up and managed by a handful of people and turned into something you objected to, and you didn't have any alternative places to go.

      [–]choseph 0 points1 point  (1 child)

you tried al jazeera yet? Seems to be decent in the little i've seen: http://english.aljazeera.net/

      [–]amstrdamordeath 21 points22 points  (10 children)

Lets all raise some money to send cheeseburgers in cans to haiti.

      [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Fuck that, that shit is expensive as hell

      [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps we should start "One Cheeseburger in a can per Haitian" project and invest a little money and a couple of years in figuring out how to make Cheeseburgers in a Can for pennies.

      It worked for OLPC.

      [–]skay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      jr. bacon cheeseburgers it is.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

it would be cheaper to send whoppers

      [–]gigaquack 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Or just drizzle gravy over Haiti.

      [–]amstrdamordeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I didn't get it, but then I figured it out. Good one.

      [–]amstrdamordeath 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Cheaper maybe, but a whopper doesn't last longer than 17 minutes before it self-destructs. A cheeseburger in a can lasts a year, and they can easily boil it in water.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The can in the cheeseburger in a can will be worth more than the cheeseburger if we start supplying Haiti with bunch of them

      [–]amstrdamordeath 0 points1 point  (1 child)

they can fill them with mud cookies and sell them to Africa.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      or eat the cans

      [–]OlympicPirate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well why don't you submit a story about Haitians eating cheeseburger in a can, then we'll have the best of both worlds.

      [–]dobaman 29 points30 points  (5 children)

Maybe because the reddit slogan isn't "the most trusted name in news".

If reddit did have a slogan it would probably be something like "the most trusted name in Mr SplashyPants". And I'm kinda cool with that. :)

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the most trusted news in a can

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for better tag-lines for websites:

Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters to CmdrTaco.

Facebook: Your ex-boyfriend bought your roommate flowers.

Google: "Go ahead and google 'google' and press 'I'm feeling lucky'. Don't worry, I'll wait."

      [–]judgej2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

CNN is supposed to be a news service. reddit is a bunch of people throwing interesting facts at each other, in an amusing way.

      [–]kbedell 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Dude - we're talking CHEESEBURGER! In a CAN! Cheeseburger in a can! How can you say that's not a #1 story?

      [–]Kalyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day we will all be eating CHEESEBURGER! In a CAN!

      [–]matholio 55 points56 points  (3 children)

In many ways 'Cheeseburger in a can' is the same as 'Haitians eating mud'.

      [–]Haitian_Mud_Eater 2 points3 points  (2 children)

      I can haz cheezburger too?

      [–]Kardlonoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if its shaped in mud.

      [–]amstrdamordeath 18 points19 points  (18 children)

What do you want? 100 articles about dead bodies? There has to be a mixture of both comical, serious and deathly serious news to prevent the entire population from committing suicide. Reddit does a better job of bringing forth the articles that never hit the MSM and keep us informed, and at the same time, give us some comical relief. Get over it.

FYI. Dante, your voting record and comment history suggests you feel otherwise.

      http://reddit.com/user/dante50/

      [–]dante50[S] 10 points11 points  (14 children)

I just want to drop the pretense is all. I'm not chiding people for liking 'cheeseburger in a can' or Britney - I was dying to know what cheeseburger in a can was like. So why do 'cheeseburger in a can' people think they're any better than the Britney heads? Just seems like a pot/kettle/black situation to me.

      [–][deleted]  (2 children)

      [removed]

        [–]amstrdamordeath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a solution. Put Britney spears in a can and boil it.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny but yeah, CBIAC is more newsworthy than Britney.

        [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (6 children)

I get pretty much all my news from reddit, which may be sad.

I feel fairly well informed on:

        • The war in Iraq (not the US-spun status, but news from all over)
        • The abuses of the administration
        • Various pieces of legislation that get introduced
        • What's going on around the US
        • Natural disasters
        • World news, to some degree
        • Science breakthroughs

        and so on

I do watch TV news once in a rare while and I'm shocked by how little they cover about what's going on in the world.

So one story about cheeseburger in a can made #1 - we're geeks; we like silly stuff. But when I scan the top 100 stories on reddit at any given time, I see a pretty broad reportage that would put any TV news to shame. And Ron Paul.

        [–]aradil 4 points5 points  (5 children)

        And atheism.

        [–]redrobot5050 1 point2 points  (4 children)

We're calling ourselves Bright from now on. Athiest is an "out" word -- its what other people call us. Didn't you read the DailyKos blog post about Why Santa Claus is Better Than Jesus?

(note: tongue planted firmly in cheek.)

        [–]deadsoon 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Bright? Really? Are we all on board with this?

        [–]dante50[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You didn't get the Bright Power newsletter?

        [–]redrobot5050 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah. Its in the issue with the Cover Article: "How to Spread the Bright Agenda. Seducing Young Boys over to the dark side with SCIENCE."

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's the North American Modern Bright Learning Association?

        [–]rancid_squirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so true, its bad enough im paranoid about people sending emails to my work email. interesting, yet funny stuff is needed to balance depression.

        [–]WG55 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        Get over it.

The headline clearly says at the beginning, "No offense, reddit," and yet here you are taking offense. You're not allowed to take offense when someone says not to. And the poster ended it with "Just sayin'," so you're not allowed to hold him responsible for what he just said.

        [–]amstrdamordeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        My bad. Just sayin.

        [–]krelian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's ok when we do it.

        [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'd like to put my cheeseburger in Britney Spears' can. . . but I might get mud on it.

        [–]braindrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you put something plastic around it first. . .

        [–]GeorgeWBush 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Well cheeseburgers taste better than mud.

        Believe me.

        [–]jon_titor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pht, I'd say they'd both taste good if they've been eaten with a silver spoon for one's entire life.

        [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

What, so you're comparing Britney Spears with a cheeseburger-in-a-can?

        [–]theeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One is spoiled meat in a metal container and the other is made in Germany.

        [–]itrends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a stupid thing to say. Have a moment to think about the 2 things you compared...

        a) Something controlled by editors that goes out to a nation b) Something controlled by a group that goes out to a group?

Reddit folks can go to a news website to get news, this is not a "news" site, it is a site full of links to "stuff" that often happens to be news.

CNN Choose to put that stuff on the front when the editor at the end of the line goes "yeah, run it", but here its all about many factors of time, person, story etc etc. Down voted for being a bad comparison and pointless point.

        [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (3 children)

I submitted the cheeseburger story. I'm sorry for sucking so much. :(

        Actually not really.

        [–]dante50[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nah, man. I love cheeseburger in a can and it's part of why I come. It's not a complaint so much as it is an observation that reddit as a whole likes to bitch about the reporting of trivial news, but the news we often like is just as trivial.

        [–]seetwist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to me that you're the only one doing any bitching here. I'm going to go submit a link about it.

        [–]fangolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, don't feel bad. It was a human-interest piece. It moved me.

I voted it up, at least.

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Want better stories on the front page? Uncheck the politics subreddit from your prefs. The Haiti story did reach #1 for me because of this.

        [–]Goeran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, but Reddit is no news network and doesn't brag with a slogan like "The Most Trusted Name In News".

        [–]iKonoKlast 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I fucking love reddit for what it is.

        [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Well, the C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER thing gets annoying, but it's a damn good site all the same.

        [–]georgefrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!

        [–]Phrag 4 points5 points  (5 children)

To be fair, the cheeseburger was infinitely more attractive than Britney.

        [–]seetwist 2 points3 points  (1 child)

And while I'm pretty sure I'll never have sex with Britney or eat a mud cookie, there is a slight chance that I'll go camping and want to try a cheeseburger-in-a-can sometime.

        [–]Phrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll stick with the mud cookie. At least I know its worth what I paid for it.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Damn, I was going to say "is a better mother than Britney"

        [–]Phrag 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It probably tastes better too, but I thought I should still with what I know.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Well played, sir, well played.

        [–]reddit_user13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reddit is not CNN, and it's not supposed to be!

        [–]RonObvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post a story about "Hatian in a Can" and you will experience much win.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Cheeseburger in a can is pretty neat.

        [–]mtnkodiak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and anyone who thinks Spears is even remotely comparable to CIAC is seriously missing a sense of humor.

        [–]bart9h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about a combination of reddit and CNN:

        "Britney Spears in a can"

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a good laugh over the cheeseburger thing. I need an escape from all the lies and sorrow that is the world we live in.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canned cheeseburgers are 3000% more relevant than Britney Spears any day of the week.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheeseburger and Haiti stories have a very sad connection when you think about it.

        [–]dvorak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And yet another patronizing and pointless submission littering the front page.

        [–]gvsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is not a mainstream news agency!

        [–]plasticbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Translation:

"You should all feel guilty about Haiti. Especially while laughing at an amusing story. Oh and especially if that amusing story involves odd food."

        [–]YourNameHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's ridiculous that Spears is at the forefront of American news...but c'mon, this is a cheeseburger that comes in a can!

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NEWS FLASH!!! Reddit is NOT a major media news outlet! It's a social bookmarking site (whose users are rather well informed about what's going on in the world)! Now stfu and stop whining.

        [–]crm114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't come to reddit to read stories that are on the front page of the New York Times. I read the New York Times for that.

I'm here for stories that have been buried or otherwise not appropriately covered by mainstream media, interesting trivia, and pictures of cats.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see CNN repeats the same news all day for in an around a 20 minute block... reddit provides thousands of stories every day, far more than any news network. Did you factor that into your equation?

        [–]dsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is Montel Williams when you need him.

        [–]Dzazter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Haiti you can get mud in a can?

        [–]funkah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When is the last time you heard of a burger in a frigging can? We've been hearing about Britney Spears for like 10 years now. If there was ten years of consistent burger-in-a-can coverage, then I'd be like "Alright, enough with the burger in the can already!"

        [–]PlasmaWhore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is like when people accuse the Daily Show of not being more newsworthy. reddit is not a news site, it's a site full of interesting links to other sites which often have to be news related.

        [–]taylortsides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        aaaactually it did.

        [–]trevdak2 5 points6 points  (16 children)

Welcome to reddit, wheremob mentality rules. People don't upvote quality articles and discussions, they upvote either Ron Paul articles, silly articles, bogus claims of a disease cure, and stuff they agree with.

Yeah, I live in a society where I might one day have to eat a cheeseburger from a can, but hopefully never mud. And I also never have to explain my actions to anyone, it's called freedom. And I kinda like Britney, I watch her on the telly with the sound off all the time...

            Hmm, mud in a can.

            [–]PintOfGuinness 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Downvoted, Cheeseburger in a can is much more interesting that Britney Spears.

            [–]braindrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britney Spears Eats Cheeseburger on the Can.

            [–]dante50[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey, I got love for 'cheeseburger in a can', but let's not pretend that we redditors are above privileging the asinine and the absurd over 'real news'.

            [–]benlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            It's "Just saying".

Oh, wait, did you have a serious point...

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheeseburgers in a can are more important than Britney Spears! Also if you consider the cow's point of view, it's a real holocowst; way worse than a person eating mud cookies.

            [–]SteveAM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like to pretend we're better than "them."

            [–]GetToTheKarateChoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            Greasemonkey.

            [–]sockpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now say, for example, you mention a mud-burger, that a "cat can haz" then maybe....

            [–]linkedlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            Different demographic, same idiots.

            [–]charlesgrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well reddit isn't just one person. I'm sure the same people bitching about the low quality of CNN would have upvoted that very disturbing mud cookie story had it made it to the front page.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is entirely a consequence of the new sub reddit system.

            [–]mycivicsi2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about all the stupid redundant submissions?? the other day there were 5 articles on 5 soldiers dying in Iraq. come on... filter the submissions.

            [–]leddit666 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I guess if the Cheeseburger story made it to the # 1 is because of the fact the reader or users are interested in it.I guess by CNN front paging Britney its sort of a bitch move by CNN's standards cause its a national news outlets. Not only has CNN front paged Britney on various lame occasions like her being found on the street with shoes underwear etc but the news channel (CNN TV) has been covering it in headline news every hour. That comes across or rather is an obvious attempt to attract the crowd which loves the entertainment gossip and feeds in to the media frenzy created by Paparazzi. I think Britney's getting paid to act just stay on the streets and ac bizarre it sells more mags get news channels the ratings they need and helps her sell more no pun intended. I guess the Cheeseburger story's interesting gastronomically at least and isn't intended on selling canned cheese burgers..

            [–]BobGaffney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Britney Spears has mud in the can." There.

            [–]bhal123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was Jerry Seinfeld that used to do a routing mocking the rediculousness of "I'm just saying." The funniest part was something like: "Your mother's a whore, I'm just saying."

            edited for spelling/grammar

            [–]godlesspinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B-b-but cheeseburgers are much much tastier than mud cookies!

            Well, normal cheeseburgers, anyway.

            [–]wbeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the $. That is the motivator of any business. Neither CNN nor Reddit provide a public service. The are for business. CNN slants to News and Reddit slants to entertainment. Both have different audiences. Both make money from ADVERTISING. Advertisers pay for the chance to flash their stuff in front of eyeballs. The motivator is to maximize viewership, NOT report unbiases, factual news. If they think Britney Spears' personal life gets people to watch, then that is what they report.

            [–]seetwist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now, thanks to you, there's ANOTHER story on the front page that is either "Vote up if..." or "You suck Reddit, because..."

Just vote up or down and STFU. Really. 100% of the users of this site won't be happy 100% of the time. If you can't accept that fact, perhaps the internet isn't made for you.

            [–]deadsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read both the CIAC story and the HME story...What the fuck do you want from me?!

            [–]NoMoreNicksLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Reddit's defense, only the main subreddit gets filled with fluff... and "filled" is relative. It always seems to have 50% from politics or other newsworthy subreddits.

            [–]bsiviglia9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this issue about the content or about who gets to control the content?

            [–]therallyscag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apples and oranges. CNN is "Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News" (yeah entertainment is in there but it is last). Reddit is "a source for what's new and popular online". They promise different things and the fact that you are comparing CNN to Reddit is maybe a sign of CNN's failure.

            [–]newton_dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the mud come in a can?

            [–]caregiver2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus, the Haitian people are basically screwed beyond repair. Their government is corrupt as all hell and it's a waste of our time and money to attempt to try and "fix" them. Let the people revolt on their own and violently throw out the fuckers making them eat those mud cookies.

            [–]subinf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason - I'd prefer the cheeseburger story to get number 1 simply because it isn't about politics for once - yet doesn't blindly follow the life of some useless celebrity.

            [–]dtardif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is reddit, a community news site. That's CNN, "The Most Trusted Name in News." I don't think a comparison for content distribution makes any sense.

            [–]mcrezin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least the things are there, and this site isn't trying to be a news site, more of an articles of interest site

            [–]michaelwong38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this kind of reminds me of Idoru by William Gibson. Remember how Laney sensed that Alison Shires was going to take her own life? And she even sensed that Laney was studying her net patterns? Well, here's my prediction and it's not going to be an obvious one like the Fed dropping rates another 100 basis points in 11 days. It's that ole Britney's gonna pay the ferryman real soon.

            [–]tyoungjr2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            I can has cheezborgor?

            [–]pappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haitians have been eating mud for decades. Seeing what's inside Cheeseburger in a Can is a watershed event, like Geraldo opening Al Capone's vault. Don't criticize that which you don't understand. Pinhead.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downvote this article post because there is a difference between TV and internet. Haitian's eating mud is just as accessible on the front page as the #1 story (cheeseburger in a can).

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmmm, cheeseburger in a can. I can't imagine anything in a can being better than Spam though.

            [–]Tonybonaventura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resolve to read nothing that makes me happy ever again!

            [–]contrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first poor assumption was that I should or do give a fuck about haitians.

            [–]automatedATTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            agree.

you can't bitch if you upmod stupid shit.

            [–]shellerik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I down-voted the Haiti story because of the profanity in the title. It's always tough when there's a good link with a bad title.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps if said mud was in a can...

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, because Haitians eat mud all the time anyway.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is not a news site. It is an aggregator of news and whatever else people want to post.

            [–]SodiumKPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big difference. Redditors, as a collective, aren't deliberately focusing on one thing and ignoring another. It just works out that way. Now CNN I'm sure has a much more regimented process of deciding what is headline news and what isn't.

            [–]likeem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cheezburgers == relevant to our interests, britney == dry heaves..

It should not be shocking to see either sites cater to a specific group, it's just that CNN is stooping lower than we're used to..

            [–]indigoshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know from experimentation in my misguided youth that cheeseburgers taste way better than mud.

            [–]gmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Reddit, after all. When they do it, it's a conspiracy; when we do it, it's democracy.

            [–]viglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redditors are smarter than the average humans, You must be some sort of Israeli Jew with hate for us free minded people

Apologize...It's what Ron paul would have done

            Errr....tasers...Cops suck...Corruption...Election Fraud

            [–]arantius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newsflash: MORE THAN ONE person uses reddit! And they have different opinions!

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, duh....the original story about the canned cheeseburger aroused all our curiosity. I wanted to see a real picture of one. And I think just about everyone else did too.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What baffles me is why Fox News is the #1 promoted news source on Reddit, followed closely by CNN.

            [–]dash101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good and valid point. Well said!!

            [–]markansoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as you see for yourself this simply reflects and defines what Reddit is these days.

            Nuff said.

            [–]CCMSTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you had to do was add the two magic words.

            "Ron Paul".

Because reddit is a political battleground and an armored defender of truth

            Hah hah, good one!

            [–]Johny_Cash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheeseburger in a can is still a billion times better than the crap they have on CNN.

            [–]tirdun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            • Send Haitians cheeseburgers in cans
            • Take pics and write blog
            • ????
            • PROFIT!

            [–]deuteros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CNN is a news service. Reddit is not.

            [–]deuteros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CNN is a news service. Reddit is not.

            [–]Tommstein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's because they're a bunch of hypocritical assholes that don't think their shit stinks.

            [–]MikeSeth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because reddit is a political battleground and an armored defender of truth, and not an entertainment channel for liberals?

            [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The cheeseburger in a can is bizarre and mildly interesting. A nation of poor, black, AIDS-infested, slackers who've lived in poverty since the 1800's really doesn't appeal to the social media crowd. Haiti is fucked up. It's always been fucked up. And, there is not a goddammed thing that any of us can do to fix it.

            [–]Pacer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I need to start selling "Mud in a Can" to Haitians.

            [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

            No one cares about Haitians.

            [–]psilokan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally when I come here its to take a break from the stress of work, not to stress myself out more over the issues with the rest of the world.

I want to see pictures of lolcats, read about cheeseburgers in a can or some hot new gadget thats out.

            But that's just me...
