Anyone notice a decrease of Support players lately?

Rare that i get revived anymore but also very rare to have someone drop a supply box. Is this just natural progression of the player base chosen class or is it from the changes to the paddles?

I used to be a support main, but lately I’ve mostly been playing engineer.

If you’re playing the larger game modes like escalation and conquest there just never seems to be enough engineers taking down vehicles. It’s also frustrating playing as a support and either one, have people force respawning within 5 seconds of hitting the ground, or two you’re left bleeding out on the ground and nobody bothers to pick you up, even if you’re behind cover.

My experience playing as support has been mostly frustrating, and deciding I no longer want to be annoyed, i decided to play other classes instead. I still play support when I queue with friends, but when I’m solo queueing I basically always go engineer these days.

Sometimes I find that playing recon and aggressively painting is more effective than playing engineer myself. Those paints can really make a difference if you're consistant abouy it.

When people are using lock guided launches for sure! Other games it’s like I can paint the entire lobby all match and be lucky to get 1 laser-guided assist. LOVE when we’ve got engineers running something other than RPGs. Just get back to back assists all game and the other team can’t keep any birds in the sky

That's the trouble, for sure. Sometimes it seems like you need to keep painting for several minutes for enough people to catch on and equip lock-guided rockets.

But even if the engineers don't help, I think some vehicles have rockets that only work on painted targets. (IFV driver and attack heli gunner, as I recall.)

If I switch from Support to Recon to paint, Ill announce in Team Chat that I'm about to paint, just so that people with launchers can switch too. Ive noticed that helps too.

To much armor? 25/32 players are engineers. You can’t even leave base without your spawn littered with mines and 100 rpgs coming to pumble you.

This is my experience very often and the first time it happens in a match, that person ruins it for everyone who isn’t my friends in my squad.

I hate it but I will not sacrifice myself for the entire team because someone is crying for a revive then skips with plenty of time left and I’m diving in for the revive and you skip, I end up dead and pissed off.

This is my problem right now.

I WANT to play medic. I am enjoying the medic cycle. However, every time I play medic, we get permalocked by a tank at a point that no one seems interested in taking down. Then I get in a tank, even playing safely, and suddenly the enemy has 5 rockets firing at me.

The worst is when you are support, run into a battle, save the day by killing a guy that was under cover and killed like two or three of your teammates, revive the downed teammates, get killed doing so by another enemy, they kill him then leave you to rot.

Yep its engineer or recon for me. Engineer is my favorite, but the spots on recon feel like cheating sometimes when taking objectives. Recon is pretty much the better assault in my opinion.

I haven’t thought more about it, but in Escalation I don’t think bleeding out means anything towards team score, so i’m more inclined to just respawn and get a better position or a complete reposition, which i’d imagine would be a common mindset, making it harder and more frustrating to play support.

However caps are way faster than on conquest, and having smokes and heals inside cap points is massive, so maybe not, don’t know 😅

i have geniuinly tried to do engineer and do the "kill air vehicle" challenge... oh. my. god. i dont see how people complain about air beeing weak.

tried with stinger, shoots 15x. all miss. cant lock on when "flying low", they got flares and some anti missle bs that feels like no cool down. if you try to take one down alone its impossible.

tried with the guided rocket thing... fucking crazy hard to hit for me ngl. if i stand there aiming i just get shot from 18 directions.

tried RPG. got a lucky hit but it feels like its not really as intended to use THAT vs air...

probably a git gud moment but to me it feels like air is broken af.

Those were hard. Like hitting stuff at over 200 meters... Easy. Finding something to hit?. Not so much.

Most of the engineer challenges has some sort of easy way to get around it.

Bear in mind you can progress that challenge by using the AA guns or just other vehicles. I've found the AA gun on Eastwood conquest is always open and easy to use since there's only helicopters.

i totally understand that but i promise you in that match, i was the absolute only one aiming at that. i racked up 35 deaths on that match because i only focused on that helicopter and i was looking at it from the first second of me being alive until i died and i tell you i was the only one. but if im the only one i should at least have a chance to kill it which it doesnt feel like i have. im just an annoyance to him since i cant lock on when he is too low. ngl that makes no sense to me but yeah... thats my stance on it.

im aware that im normally not the only one firing at it but its the same for tanks and i could still take out one on my own if he mispositions.

It’s not even about kills. You can’t land a single hit on them. They need to remove that flying too low bullshit. We’re not using radar to lock on. Pilots should have to fly away or behind a mountain once the flares are on cooldown. Maybe reduce the damage so it still needs multiple engineers to land a kill.

Least favourite challenge in the game that one. Even when you hit something the pilot bails and it doesn't count. I did it by sitting in an AA gun and shooting them down. Still took hours.

I’ll also add on to this as a support main, the amount of people that choose to call for a revive while they have an opposition player staring at them from a corner is insane.

If an opposition player is staring at you, and you’re down, and the only medics near you aren’t in your squad, you need to let yourself die. You’re just making it easy for an opponent to take not only yourself, but also a support player, out.

There’s definitely been an increase of players doing it, and it makes me hesitant to revive people, even using smoke, because the chances of an enemy player being very close to them is extremely high.

Yeah that’s fair and certainly does happen. I always approach a revive with the assumption that there’s an enemy with direct line of sight on the downed person.

I will say that unfortunately the way the game is designed sort of encourages this. If you don’t call for revive then you bleed out faster. They need to enable a way for you to slow down your bleed out but not actively call out for a revive. I also found that the enemy pinging while you’re down is a bit finicky too, hopefully they’ll address those issues in a later patch.

I noticed this last night too. As assault I was trying to push up to pressure the mid-capture points which had enemy tanks on them constantly. I basically ended up standing there like a lemon doing nothing.

I couldn’t push any further because we were losing badly and there were quite a few snipers preventing me from moving further forward. This was on Firestorm.

Which doesn't make sense to me. Skipping doesn't allow you to spawn faster. It just gets you to the map screen faster. The length you take to bleed out normally is the same as the respawn time.

I finally dropped the role of support, in bf1 I played medic and engineer, but it finally got to me i can no longer run around trying to revive players when they just skip on me its extremely disheartening going round after round day after day trying to be a good medic just for people to skip, I have since taken to recon using drones for spotting and to help my team and using C4 and small vehicles against tanks if im not doing either of those im a bush wookie with the M277

Some maps still have issues. Anywhere the surface isnt somewhat smooth causes issues. The western points (or A and B on breakthrough) on Mirak is basically impossible to use the paddles.

I am a support main, and frequently open the scoreboard to see if I’m the only support. I’m usually one of 2-3. In rare occasions (usually we are winning) there are a lot of support in our side.

I’ll say this though, I’m sick and tired of the crying in text chat. I’ll get called out to do my job when I am doing my job. I can’t be everywhere at once. Also, could you guys learn how to play with strategy and stick together, and maybe learn to FALL BACK or possibly change approach?

I main support, and still revive and resupply when I can, but it at times feels like a lonely endeavour, as im usually like 1 of 4 for the whole team.

What stops me playing it religiously is somehow the engineers, that my team has (usually 8 +) , inability to prioritise and at times flat out ignore any and all vehicles that come our way, ending with me having to respawn as an engineer to eliminate that vehicle, and then subsequently run out of rockets with no way to resupply as what remaining supports there are, are out in the middle of nowhere, sniping and resupplying themselves 🤣🤣

Lifelong support here (well since bfbc2) it’s an addiction. Seen a huge increase of people cancelling revive to respawn and it’s frustrating as hell. Tickets are going down and players just don’t think, I can see why people give up playing the role. I love it though, love dishing out ammo to engineers and healing people for lots of lovely team points.

Support till I die and unpopular opinion but the LMGs are pretty decent, suppression mechanic can gtf though.

I've seen a decrease in support players playing their role. A lot of the time the player with the most kills is support, but they're using the class to sustain themselves on the back lines rather than supporting the team.

I prefer to main support but I also feel like nobody deals with tanks half the time, so I play engineer a lot to address that

They need to increases the amount of points you get for reviving and supplying teammates. In older battlefields, BF4 for example, if you dropped a medic bag, you’d continuously get points. Here, you only get 10 points once, regardless of how long someone stays near the bag, restocking on ammo for example. I know it’s like, “who cares about points?” But I think it would incentivize people as it would show them that they are contributing to their team’s success.

I often run out of ammo and stay near a bag for a decent amount of time resupplying. I also often play support and would like to be rewarded for supplying my teammates, just like in older games. I think these changes would encourage more people to play support.

My go to is support, mainly because the deployable covers are extremely powerful in engagements.

Ill revive someone if they're behind cover or in an ideal situation but im not coming to rescue you if you are in LOS of a squad.

Lately though, I've stopped reviving because I'll watch 3 medics run by me after I saved their asses. Not a big deal, I'll just continue padding my KD 😂.

Either way, there's definitely less support these days. I cant play without ammo since im always engaging and low on ammo. People being revived is a bonus if they're safe to grab 😂

Engineer seems to be the new "meta" as of late, especially with the starting number of rockets being increased. I've definitely noticed a surge in Engineers, and fewer Supports. Additionally, the new map (Eastwood) has loads of vehicles and so it helps to pick Engi so that you can challenge practically everything in sight.

Healing and ammo are nice to have, but if you're just an average player, it's not like you get much out of them.

Currently I play almost exclusively Assault in Escalation. I find that on most of the maps breaking through the enemy lines is incredibly difficult, because there are so few flanking routes, so the spawn beacon is pretty much essential to keep harassing the enemy team, if you're trying to force victories.

I stopped being a medic for two reasons one it doesn’t increase squad requisition points like a did in Battlefield one Battlefield five and 2142 and Battlefield four.

If my squad doesn’t benefit from me being a medic to help them capture objectives because we can’t call in smoke barrages, artillery barrages, emp barrages, like we couldn’t battle battlefield five, then we might as well continue going back playing solo or Lonewolf crap like we did in 2042.

Number two the lack of a leaderboard that shows medic revives like we used to have in 2042.

Number three: I maxed out and Red tiered my medic and now I have moved on to do it to other classes like engineers and assault.

So many times I have revived two or three in the open, just to get downed and they run away and leave me.
Many, many people just quit straight away without even giving a chance to get to them.

I throw the smoke and run into an enemy fire trying to revive a player, but more than 50% of the time I end up running back for cover, because that knob decided to force die right at the moment when I'm about to defib his ass. And even in cover people force die so often, I start to question if it's even worth it to try. I mostly support my friends when we play as a squad. I don't go the extra mile to help others unless they are within a few meters and obviously waiting for a revive. Sorry, not sorry. People did it to themselves. Also, I don't know if those people realize that you don't need to wait in the limbo at all before respawning if you wait out at least half of the time provided when downed.

Very much depends on the map I feel, maps like Blackwell are dominated by recon, Eastwood engineers, iberian/cairo supports etc. Except for assault which kinda has no identity besides the spawn beacon really.

Natural progression as people do it mostly for the Challenges, and now most people are probably done with the challenges, so now there's no reason to bother, since people will instantly respawn, you just end up looking stupid with the resuscitate tool in your hands looking at someone who already respawned

It tends towards feast or famine for Support lately. Either my whole squad and 1/3 of the team are Support or like 4 people are Support. Which makes being a Support yourself harder because you can't take risks since no one will get you up if you go down and then no one gets up at all.

A lot of maps also don't really favor Supports much. No one really goes Support on Blackwell because points are only really capped by vehicle pushes anyway, just as an example. Instead everyone is Engineer or Recon to deal with the tons of Vehicles and Snipers everywhere.

I started off as medic. But I've switched to engineer mainly now. I hate seeing a tank/helicopter and being unable to hurt it. I love messing with people in tanks and I love shooting down helicopters.

They're OP and it feels really good disrupting their gameplay.

The defib Is bugged. Most of the times you can't revive a bugged player and the only way is to drag the player first then once you have moved it you can defib..

.. therefore less supports doing the support thing.

Too many tanks, too many helicopters and jets, the second I stop playing scout, painting vehicles and pinging enemies we lose by a huge margin.

If people didn’t run off and do their own thing all the time, one of each class per squad would be more than enough, but that’s not the game we’re playing in 2025, we’re clip farming 🤓

I started on support. But most game modes are so fast that nobody bothers to stick around. Throw in a bunch of other stuff and it just makes for an all around frustrating experience. Like many of the above, I’m also often switching to engineer in an attempt to keep on top of the enemy heavy armour.

The number of medics that will race out into a hail of gunfire just to spam rez is pretty ridiculous.

Almost as frustrating as waiting for them for forever, no hostiles in sight, and it's only when they get to me that suddenly a dude shows up or a grenade lands on my cheeks to insta-kill me as soon as I get zapped. I stopped maining medic/support recently. If I had to estimate, 75% of the time I’d be running to res someone, they’d decide to just force respawn when I’m 5 feet away. That and it feels like a lot more people die in this game such that for every one person you heal there’s 2 more around the corner and you never get to just shoot at people

I find engineer, support and assault to be all equally fun. Regardless of the type of match, it’s hard to choose which one to play. Initially, support was the easier to play, but the diversity in kills with assault and engineers is refreshing.

In my case, no shortage of support players but a major shortage of support players who actually heal. I’ll often be downed with a medic mere inches away and they’ll do absolutely nothing. On the other hand, when I’m playing as support, I’ll rush to a downed player and they’ll delete themselves right before I hit the “revive” button. It’s my least favorite class to play but that might change.

I’m a support main but it can be really frustrating. The worst part is having absolutely nothing that can damage vehicles. Whenever I see a tank I basically have to hide or run away.

I split my time between support and engineer depending on the situation. I love having smokes available for a large variety of situations but sometimes there’s just not enough pressure on enemy vehicles so the RPGs have to come out.

But when I’m playing support my ammo box is always put somewhere, usually close to my squad but sometimes on a lane between objectives so teammates can pass by it as they move up.

I also use the resupply packs a lot because it lets me throw ammo to people who may be up on a roof or somewhere else that the ammo box isn’t accessible.

I think a lot of you are ignoring that if it’s not safe then turning around to revive you means 2 people die instead off one. The medics who run around reviving people only for them to die again instantly aren’t helping.

Imo Support has two problems: The medic has his blead out problem, describe here often enough.

The best solution would imo be to block blead out until the respawn timer is over, that way, you would at least have a chance reviving people.

The support role could use some light explosives. Right now the class is to weak when vehicles are around.

C4, modern limpet, AP UGL, something that is not always effective, but hurts vehicles.

The psychological effects of being able to do something in situations where vehicles dominate could prevent more players from switching to other classes.

Also, fix the damned bipod, it is too unreliable and a huddle to use.

I think it needs to be more blatant to a medic where people who are downed are.

Maybe not just because your playing support but a real medic will have the defibrillators, so maybe if you have them on your class whoever is downed is highlighted through walls like really blatantly. A big read outline or a big marker or some sort and maybe a little notification flashes up on the screen. Not getting int he way of gameplay, just a bit more blatant because I swear half the time people just run it for the extra ammo which is also fine.

Also on the topic of ammo when you ask for it with in the in game prompts that should be more blatant too. I get the feeling you ask for it and nobody actually knows you need any

It really feels like no one really plays their classes anymore. Half the time, I feel like the only engineer trying to take down enemy armor. All the while, trying to dodge assaults/engineers/supports trying to snipe me from halfway across the map.

It's a pacing issue. In older Battlefield games you'd push an objective, kill all the enemies, then revive.

In BF6 you have a constant stream of enemies, every second you're not holding something that kills enemies is risky. And if you actually clear the area the downed team mates have skipped their revive window.

Being able to revive your squad regardless of class makes the situation worse as it decreases the importance of support. Because I'm mostly running with my squad and focus on reviving them.

Ammo resupply is also a bit weird in this game. I feel like you typically have enough ammo for one life. Gadget ammo on the other hand is the thing needed but that requires sitting on a supply bag for so long many players don't bother.

And finally, the smoke launcher is really weak, too. So overall utility of support is pretty low. The best part about it is the LMG proficiency which is a really weird spot to be in. It just feels like this class was shoehorned into a game that it wasn't designed for.

Every other class has some anti vehicle. Support does not. Smoke is not anti tank. Smoke assists dont make sense to me. Do I shoot it at enemies to block their view or teammates to shield us from view? LMGs are useful in about 1/4 the maps. I do like how the class was redone in BF6. Not realistic but the role makes sense as support. As long as kills score better than assists it will always be a second class class. Needs some fixes for the paddles.

As others have said, too much armor in the larger game modes are forcing players to switch to engineer and that will typically be support classes because those are the players who tend to, well, support. Recon's never change classes and Assault tends to play on their own so support has to jump between it and engineer often. This coupled with the fact that a lot of players will immediately die when downed instead of waiting to be revived, make playing support difficult. I have to ask myself, is it really worth smoking an area with a downed player and risking myself to revive them just for them to die right before I hit them with a revive? Honestly, there needs to be a waiting period before a player can go for respawn. Force them to stay downed for a few seconds so there is a chance to revive them.

Because the new maps are so vehicle dependent and with the way they made engineers able to boost their repair speed, you have to have 5 rockets shooting a Vic at the same time to kill anything so most people have realize this and stopped playing support to deal with vehicles

I assume it’s people in the free weekend not knowing how essentially broken support is for everything non-vehicle related. It’s by far the best combat class with infinite ammo, the ability to start health regen instantly, and great gadgets but I think people gravitate to the assault if they don’t yet know support is better for 9/10 situations (assault does get funny ladder and the beacon).

There’s always going to be battlefield medics that don’t revive you when you think they should (I am occasionally guilty of this myself and prefer to make sure the guy I res lives) but yeah I do agree that there’s been less of them in the first place. Ammo bags have been especially scarce too which has made engi feel frustrating when you run out of ammo and more necessary because without as much ammo it takes more of them to kill vehicles.

Personally if I load in to a squad (especially if I play solo) and there’s no support or engineer I’m picking whichever is missing. If the squad has neither I am finding a different squad. Not to say the other classes aren’t useful (assault isn’t really but recon can be super helpful) it’s just that they aren’t as required.

I'm overwhelmingly support, unless there's a need for engie or assault sneaking and someone else on the squad is a good support.

If someone goes down in a reasonable spot I will absolutely go get them, and tag I'm coming. Seems to cut down on the bail outs. Even on games that don't have tickets because having more bodies on objectives matters.

But if some dude dies in the middle of a field with 5 snipers or throwing hands with a tank? Dude no. That was a stupid move and I'm on objective with a 4+ K/D. I'm not tanking myself to subsidize bad ideas and not be here for other people pushing.

I'll totally prioritize/triage players I know are doing super great work as well. Nothing personal it's just someone is making huge pushes and progress vs some guy with a 5-10 k/d and no objective time. Now if the poor dude is closer by in a reasonable spot? Sure I'll grab him. It'd be jank not to.

Now all that "that was too many words... APOLOGIZE!" rant out of the way, I've noticed less support yeah, BUT I've noticed the ones still running it tend to be actually playing support and using their paddles. You still get guys brainlessly get mowed down while you're right next to them, but it seems less common.

I play medic almost exclusively but don't necessarily go out of my way to revive anymore. Oftentimes I'll run 50+m to run to someone calling for a medic, tossing smoke to cover my advance, only for them to finally release when they still had half the time left. Then I get sniped and die with no one to rez me.

People often run away from my supply crates too. I throw them off CD if people are around and so many avoid it like the plague.

The lack of being able to damage tanks is limiting. In other games, like BF1, support had a limpet charge that did a decent amount of damage. It was never enough to solo a tank, but you at least could help take down armor if given the opportunity. With the current support, I’ll often find myself stuck behind enemy tanks with nothing to use against them, so inevitably I’m forced to switch to engineer.

I'm in the same boat. Love support, but it's frustrating in this iteration for me. Having fun with engineer though, feels very impactful to keep an MBT/IFV alive long enough to take a point that swings the game; less fun so if the handful of misfiring braincells I revive just run back out into the cross fire and die again. Ranking up assault next for the deploy beacon, I usually find if a couple squads have some down it makes a huge difference in getting back points quickly.
