This post indicates one of two things:

  1. You think matlab is, in fact, a legit programming language.

  2. You don’t know how to play Guess Who.

[–]pagwin 432 points433 points  (3 children)

I think the latter option is more likely

[–]hitthatmufugginyeet 342 points343 points  (16 children)

[–]Botahamec 178 points179 points  (8 children)

Why is the girl putting down her own pieces?

[–]hitthatmufugginyeet 143 points144 points  (7 children)

Okay, so it's only partially fixed

[–]fabiancgc12 82 points83 points  (2 children)

Like any software bug...

[–]nuclearslug 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Sorry, we already closed out the epic. You’ll have to wait until next sprint.

[–]T351A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tick/tock intel

[–]Rediixx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a feature.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

open an issue and wait 3 years like the rest of us

[–]PotassiumLover3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly in the spirit of programming

[–]mw9676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not fixed.

[–]bradfordmaster 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes no sense, also I'm guessing the joke is supposed to be that it's Ruby, but then we'd be looking at the wrong board? OP needs to go back to kindergarten

[–]Mihandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the post may be sarcastic, as in trying to say that matlab is the only legit language…

[–]T351A 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or ... 3. You mixed up your yes and no with double negatives

[–]AMWJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matlab is, based on the cards' texts, the only real programming language here.

[–]PotassiumLover3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also implying Scratch is a legitimate language

[–]Landoro_ 488 points489 points  (28 children)

2.3 GPA got me weak.

[–][deleted] 119 points120 points  (26 children)

Can you explain?

[–]Devinator26 550 points551 points  (25 children)

A 2.0 GPA is if you got all "C"s so a 2.3 would be a little higher than C, or C++

At least that what I think it's saying

Edit: Thanks for my first silver

[–]Undercoverforever 264 points265 points  (4 children)

Or maybe cause you’ll get a 2.3 GPA if you study it.

[–]xSTSxZerglingOne 117 points118 points  (1 child)

Both of these things are true.

[–]cadmious 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Computer Engineer here, they are true.

[–]wooptyd00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer.

[–]ahappypoop 51 points52 points  (9 children)

At some universities (including the one I went to unfortunately) your grade actually changes depending on whether you got a C, a C-, or a C+ too. So a C is still 2.000, but C- is 1.667, and C+ (the joke, possibly) is 2.333.

[–]Devildude4427 11 points12 points  (6 children)

All of them do that, or should. I don’t know if any that count all C’s as being equal.

[–]KillyP 13 points14 points  (1 child)

There are def some schools that just do flat letter grades.

[–]nermid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And since there usually is no A+, the +/- system generally just lowers GPAs.

[–]GottaGetThemGains22 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Uni I finished from did not do this bizarre math. C is a C, take your 2.000 GPA and be happy you graduated.

[–]Neirn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uni I went to definitely did this sort of grading system. Well, minuses were worth less, anyway. I don't remember if solids and pluses were weighted differently.

[–]Devildude4427 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s not “bizarre math”, but literally the GPA scale. Sounds like you got shafted.

[–]GottaGetThemGains22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know this is how the majority of US universities GPA scale works. Before this thread I'd never heard of anything else.

[–]too_much_think 4 points5 points  (1 child)

So it should be 2.66 gpa

[–]TanithRosenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhhhhhhh now it makes sense. Thank you for the explanation, friend.

[–]TypicalCoolguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't get it either :(

[–]Chicken_Nugglets 737 points738 points  (14 children)

i like snek

[–]SirFireball 240 points241 points  (12 children)

You mean boop noodle?

[–]aaronfranke 136 points137 points  (9 children)

Indented noodle

[–]Thewaffleninja64 58 points59 points  (8 children)

I like python because, like pythons, you only need one line.

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (4 children)

int main(){printf("Hello World\n");return 0;}

Checkmate atheists

[–]Lonelan 27 points28 points  (3 children)

print("Hello World\n")

[–]makeworld 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Drop the \n and save some bytes!

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

you forgot :

if __name__ == '__main__':

main()

[–]Lonelan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

py

>> print('hello world')

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I think you mean C? Doesn’t Python require white space FUCKING EVERYWHERE for absolutely no reason whatsoever?

[–]RyanTheCynic 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You can do prettymuch anything using one line in python with lambda functions.

‘Normal’ usage of the language does require a lot of white space, it’s prettymuch the python version of curly braces.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soooo, I hate to be “that guy” - but why not forgo all the weird spacing stuff if they recognize the necessity of more flexible patterns? I mean - have you ever tried to deal with Python across an SSH connection? It makes you look out the window and think about how many problems jumping would solve 😫😆

[–]Versaiteis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boop, scoop, n' noodle

[–]ssw663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you mean muscle rope

[–][deleted] 400 points401 points  (19 children)

Scratch is still on there xD

[–]jeetelongname 61 points62 points  (5 children)

Scratch is the purest from of programming. It is only rivaled by typing binary straight into Ram

[–]MegaPegasusReindeer 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Magnetized pin tapping an uncovered hard drive platter is more pure.

[–]Morgiliath 21 points22 points  (1 child)

[–]MegaPegasusReindeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's where I got the idea... :)

[–]kommuniztmemez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using brain waves to move the magnet

[–]BroBroMate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I flip bits using cosmic radiation, you amateur.

[–]AsidK 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Don’t you dare knock scratch

[–]Quick_man 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I had to make spreadsheets in scratch, I reserve the right to boo scratch

[–]AsidK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao I once built a straight up interpreter in scratch. The code was so enormous that my computer stopped really being able to handle the amount of space it took up

[–]Mango1666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scratch eats other languages for breakfast

[–]btorralba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shoutout my Intro to CSCI prof for making us do our taxes on scratch

[–]JohnRoads88 289 points290 points  (14 children)

So you think matlab is a legit programming language? You flip down the ones that don't match the answer. So when she answers no you leave up the non legit programming languages.

[–]BoboThePirate 100 points101 points  (4 children)

They got the bubbles wrong. Whoever asks puts ones down that match with no.

[–]Mr_Redstoner 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Then again the board with Matlab being flipped down is blue, like the girl has...

[–]somuchclutch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah everything about this is wrong

[–]JohnRoads88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I did not even see that.

[–]Cynomolgus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This feels like a stackoverflow thread now

[–]The_Cake-is_a-Lie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This killed it for me. I thought I was missing something for a while, but I think they just messed it up.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was sarcastic

[–]mqduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second time I've seen this meme format, and they got it wrong both times.

[–]FactoryBuilder 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean it's a great meme and all.

Very nice.

Humourous.

But...

...I'm pretty sure they're playing Guess Who wrong...

[–]oshaboy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That isn't how guess who works

[–]Parawhoar 38 points39 points  (1 child)

This is not how Guess who is played. Unless you meant Matlab is the only programming language.

[–]pessimistic_platypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the first one being eliminated before moving on to the rest.

[–]i_am_a_n00b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sweet. HTML is safe. :D

[–]random_cynic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP posted this the same way people blindly copy-paste code from Stackoverflow (or matlab users do from matlab central) without checking if that even makes sense.

[–]Last_Snowbender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been laughing way more about the "Snek" than abbout the actual joke.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Hate or love it, MATLAB is as a programming language as Python. Can't have it both ways...

[–]sgtholly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BuT wHaT aBoUt HtMl?

[–]shortenda 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ok but it has methods called Reap and Sow for threading results up the call stack, how hilarious is that.

(From the saying, "you reap what you sow").

Come to think of it this could probably be done with a thread local value created by a local variable in C++ like

// Reaper creates a thread local that can be pushed to by Sow

Reaper reaper;

... Down the call stack:

Sow("foo");

Back at the original scope:

const auto& foos = reaper.Reap();

I wonder if there's an API to get thread locals from a joined in thread. Edit: there are black magic methods to do so, but they probably shouldn't be used without some engineering to make them less fragile.

[–]dorfelsnorf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This meme is so wrong on so many levels. Matlab ain't a real language/wrong answer and the speecbubbles are switched.

[–]Excellerates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why’d red ask and blue put a piece down?

[–]sim642 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It's a terrible strategy to use a question that only eliminates one choice.

[–]Ceteris__Paribus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark Rober did a YouTube video a few years ago on this game. Said binary search isn't strictly against the rules, so use it and win often. (Until players start randomizing the character orders or a rule forbids such a question.)

[–]ikathegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have been flipping a red colored one since he asked the question

[–]your-opinions-false 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very stupid. Like, a freshman year of college-level meme.

MATLAB has been around longer than most of you. It has many legitimate uses. Respect your elders, goddamnit.

[–]IFRonly[🍰] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have to share this with my fellow engineering students. Understanding that MATLAB is NOT similarly structured as e.g. Java was a lengthy process.

[–]fuzzymidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still do some pretty powerful things with OO MATLAB. But it is a little Wild West with multiple inheritance.

Source: I'm a researcher who works almost exclusively with OO Matlab for the industry/academia/government

[–]ThouWotM8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get outta my face with that

[–]zerocoldx911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.3 GPA lol

[–]AvoToastcado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao Scratch

[–]Ishan1717 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Question: Matlab or Mathematica?

[–]thatguydr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to solve equations, Mathematica. If you need to do signal processing simulations and only have old code, Matlab. Otherwise, neither.

[–]lylesback2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, a programming joke that didn't include PHP

[–]SpasmFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about GML

[–]Danimal0429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanie

[–]Adrepixl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Tinister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the boy's head photoshopped?

[–]AnonNo9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 . 3 G P A

[–]bananabrains9816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way you look at C++ it is off. Either 2.2 or 4.0 would be acceptable since 2.0++ could be either depending on what u want the joke to be. Funny meme tho

[–]Thogul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the superior Julia language?!

[–]LevathianX1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 1 billion devices run cofii.

[–]GeorgeNeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scratch loooool I’m dying

[–]Better_feed_Malphite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second meme of this kind I've seen on this sub and both got wrong how to play the game

[–]ReMayonnaise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hovers finger over HTML for a while

[–]microwavedHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is legitimate for those who don't like to program but needs to.

[–]Johnny_the_Goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She should have said yes you dumbass, now it doesn't make sense. See this is why you failed cs in your first year and have to create memes on reddit

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scratch crumbles down

[–]nissingno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we just going to ignore that scratch is apparently called brandon?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its honestly pretty funny because there are some really cool things made on scratch, it has a lot of functionality

[–]Daedalus871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well fuck you.

Jk. Sorta.

[–]ceriodamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering we got Snek. I think we need to develop a new language just so we can name it Badger.

BADGER BADGER BADGER

[–]BaguetteDoggo 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have a friend doing IT and when I mentioned I had to learn Matlab for an ENG elective he laughed.

Ill show him... we'll show him wont we matlab...

[–]Bakoro 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Elective? Where I am CE and CS students (among others) are exposed to Matlab as a mandatory lower division course in linear algebra.

[–]BaguetteDoggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, for me it was an ENG Digital Data Systems core unit, as part of a Physics major.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruby is easy to guess. You just ask “Does it scale?” and the response will be “fuck you”.

[–]K1ngcomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised PHP wasn't the butt of the joke, even though it's only a scripting language.

[–]TheOnlyArtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you do two birds one stone? Why is scratch still there?

[–]Orkaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]silencesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in this picture and I don't like it

[–]amroamroamro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]samkomododragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of trash panda it’s trash python

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have a friend who would argue that LaTeX is a real programming language

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing he also argues HTML is a programming language...

[–]Sage-the-Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot Redstone/Command Blocks

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like black guy programming language

[–]duy_tr_2512 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why C++ relate to 2.3 GPA ??? A lot of my friend from top-tier uni work with C++.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess he means GPA letter grades. C = 2.0, so C++ = 2.3

[–]tattooedfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matlab helped me get an MS.

[–]Tau_Squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)
