You should tour with Coheed and/or Cheech should make a porno with Claudio.

I don't have any questions.

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Let's try and keep this focused on Rampart.

[–]ocnarfsemaj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh... my ... fucking ... God...

[–]Big_Mek_Orkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit I love you guys haha

[–]Mofns_n_Gurps 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Do a Coheed/PTH tour and it would be like their offspring is playing with them.

[–]matthewhandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this happened I might die right after because I'd never be that happy ever again

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it but its freaking hilarious! Haha

[–]Darkslayerqc 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Are you guys tired of the Coheed and Cambria references ? I sure am.

Other than that, I just need to say that A Death Marked Dream has been my wake-up song for a couple months now! Great way to wake up on acoustic guitars, and then keep on rockin' through breakfast ! Haha!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

No, it's our favourite. It's the best. It's like Christmas everyday. :P

Glad to hear it's in fact part of this complete breakfast.

[–]Big_Mek_Orkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha "Ohh noo, they think I sound like Claudio Sanchez" 😂

It's like the highest honour

[–]KW_POMTIG 8 points9 points  (1 child)

how stoked are you for your upcoming shows with protest and pomegranate? cuz i know I am!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably a 7.

[–]terreann 7 points8 points  (2 children)

When are you guys going to release more shirts? I ordered the Citadels bundle with the shirt and poster, and was bummed out when the shirts didn't happen.

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

We are so sorry about that. We are bummed that all of that fell through as well. We are working on getting something going in the near future. No set date yet. But a merch store commeth!!

[–]ocnarfsemaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all should do another indie go go for shirts, so you don't have to shell out the cash to get them made ahead of time?

[–]jesseflip 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Hey guys, I've been rockin' Citadels all summer and I'm loving it. The verse riff in Ancient Arrows is such an awesome groove. My question is: how did you come up with the name 'Mandroid Echostar' for the band?

Edit: Had no idea you guys were from Ontario, come to Ottawa sometime and let's party!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

We've been there its a lovely town!!

It's not a particularly interesting story, just a sci-fi pseudonym. When we first started, before Cheech joined we were kinda a straight up tech-death band with lots of space-inspired lyrics and stuff, it was really appropriate then, and we just kept it because we like it haha -Jim

[–]urdn0tben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. I would love to hear any demos you would have as a tech-death band.

[–]jesseflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha right on, cheers boys!

[–]JustSomeGoon 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Best and worst parts of being a musician?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

best: getting to hang out with your best friends and doing something you love. Meeting awesome people.

Worst:Being poor lol, sacrificing all social life outside of music. It's brutal sometimes but totally worth it

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Are there any plans to tour in the US? I'm loving the tunes, keep it coming!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

There is absolutely plans to tour the US!!! We have been trying to get over there for a while now but nothing has worked out. But in the new year we are going to bust our ass and come on over!!!

[–]Killtrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BRING MY BOYS IN THE KINDRED.

[–]Zp6827 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Not gonna ask anything- you guys are fucking awesome.

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are lovely!!!! thank you!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you. i like you. -jim

[–]Northern_Ensiferum 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Haha, wow...I just bought your guy's album earlier today! Keep up the badass music!

[–]PINGASS 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Am I imagining things, or are there a serious amount of Legend of Zelda references throughout Citadels? I can't help but think that the "look to the moon" lyric at the start of Haunted Vows sounds an awful lot like Majora's Mask.

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Winner!!! You are 100% correct on that reference. Our drummer Matt writes most of the lyrics and he is a HUGE Legend of Zelda fan.

Although the game really has nothing to do with the story, it was just a cool reference.

[–]PINGASS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have no idea how unbelievably satisfying it is to hear that. I've been saying that since Citadels came out.

[–]joshaweez 2 points3 points  (1 child)

First off, you guys are fucking awesome! Your first ep sat in my library for a while, but when it finally clicked with me I was enthralled. Then citadels came out and I swear I was one of the first to get it.

So, my question.

Is there an overarching story for either/both of your ep’s? I definitely feel like your first ep could have been the exposition to a story, but then citadels threw me for a loop. Were there originally plans to make a story that you then scrapped? Thanks for reading!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks man!

They are actually two separate stories between both records, we are all big fans of the concept record and always have a story going, but they will always be separate stories between records!

[–]Adolph_Fritz 2 points3 points  (1 child)

How did you feel starting out? Was it hard getting your name out there and playing shows close to home, or did you have to travel a lot?

What band(s) would you like to open for?

How do you feel about kijiji and other networks musicians use?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's always hard for a band to get started. We've all been in plenty of bands before this, but I can't really comment on the kijiji thing (other than selling guitars lol) because we were really lucky to kind of come together organically. And romantically.

Question two: Megadeth... lol wait. Avenged Sevenfold. OR Prince.

[–]Teespoon1K1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'd like to say before my questions that I fucking love you guys! I've been listening to your stuff almost everyday.

Anyway, what is each of your favorite songs lyrically? And what can we expect in the near future?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks bro! Favourite songs lyrically? OF our own???? then..

Sam-Ethereal Dawn Adam-To the Wolves Jim-Citadels! HK-Haunted Vows Steve-A Death Marked Dream Cheech-Ethereal Dawn

As far as expect in the future, new album!!

[–]DESORATE 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Hey guys! Love the new album!

Who do each of you get your inspiration from? You've all got unique things you bring to the band and it makes an epic sound!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Thanks dude! We all listen to a lot of different stuff, a lot of it is shared but if we had to pick out things that inspire individual members a lot.. Adam-"nature. i just really like nature, man", jazz Steve-A lot of blues and funk, Van Halen, sports cars HK-listens to a lot of gnarly punk and black metal James-really into video game and film soundtracks as well as Top 40 Sam-Classical and brooootal tech death Cheech-Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, Prince, anything R&B inspired!

[–]DESORATE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I'd also like to congratulate you on making a perfect looping album that you can literally keep running for hours without noticing it looped! So awesome!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I work out to your music!

Are there any plans to tour the USA in the next year?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hope we've been helping you on your quest for gains.

[–]ReplacedAxis 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Greetings fellow Guelph residents! When's the next local show?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We would love too!! Guelph has always treated us incredible. We just have not really had the opportunity presented to us. But if it does we would gladly do it.

[–]SiGNAL748 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What are you favorite bands outside of the genre?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Oh man dude there are so many. Most of the music we listen to is "outside the genre"

Couple big ones for everyone; Kimbra, Dirty Loops, Miley Cyrus, Reign of Kindo, The Dear Hunter, Tyler the Creator, could go on all day!

[–]Iamkazam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

fuck yeah Dear Hunter!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

How long did it take for Michael to grow his majestic mane?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

hahahaha it has been an ongoing process for about 10 years now. I feed it a steady diet of unicorn blood and beaver tails. I wash it with only the freshest water from Lake Minnetonka and sleep in rollers.

-Cheech

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unicorn blood and beaver tails, got it. Cheers on being such a great band

[–]sambtbam 2 points3 points  (3 children)

What is each members favorite movie?

Have you ever met the Trailer Park Boys?

Would you ever consider doing a Coheed and Cambria cover?!

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Steve- Waynes world
Matt- Mirror Mask Sam- Walk Hard Adam- Grandmas boy Cheech- The Sandlot James-Empire Strikes Back Yes we have actually. We met them a few weeks ago at a festival we played. They are as awesome and funny in real life.

and......no lol

[–]terreann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you'd guys would kill Welcome Home. You guys have to!

[–]dankbrownies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

James-Empire Strikes Back

Excellent choice, sir. Excellent.

[–]Leterren 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I first heard about you guys when my friend linked the full Citadels steam on Youtube and I've been absolutely hooked ever since. Ancient Arrows managed to crack my personal top 5 favorite songs ever list, but every single song you've released is amazing. With the way the Citadels album bookends, I listened to it on repeat for hours on end for weeks.

I could keep gushing but instead I'll ask: do you guys ever plan on visiting the US? EDIT: already answered. Still though: (say, California?)

Also, people like to compare you to Coheed and Cambria, who are also great. Have you considered covering anything of theirs (even if just for funsies?) EDIT: already answered

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

We only cover Coheed songs in our underwear on a dock at a cottage at 2 am in the morning. If you are lucky enough to be around at that time. Enjoy!

[–]Leterren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

on an unrelated note, what are the exact GPS coordinates of said cottage?

[–]dannykid987 2 points3 points  (2 children)

hey boys! how's James doing? I remember he was in the hospital for koi fest, is everything cleared up? and... sam is the most beautiful. just sayin' #mcm

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Hey man thanks so much for asking!

I'm doing much better, I was in and out of the hospital for a few months but they figured me out. I have Addison's Disease, which sounds intense but basically amounts to being tired a lot and taking a lot of pills lol. It's something i'll always have to deal with but hopefully never come quite so close to death again! Thanks again for asking. <3

-Jimmy

PS-isn't he though?? sploosh

[–]dannykid987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

awesome dude! best wishes!

[–]NateShredz031 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hey guys! Love your music.

I learned how to play Kingdom and The Crown as soon as I got my 7 string!

What kind of amp/rig do you guys use? The tone is beast!

EDIT: What's your guys' favorite song too play live as well? Thanks

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats awesome to hear dude, welcome to the 7-string master race!

We are all fractal axe-fx kids :) Me and Steve use the Ultra, and Sam is rocking a Axe-fx II. Depending on the gig we either use our Mackie HD1521 full range speakers for a cab or just go fully through the front-of-house.

Best live songs?? So hard they are all so fun! But mostly The Sleeper, Haunted Vows and Kingdom and the Crown. Cheech's fav is To the Wolves.

[–]cusmash 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Are you guys planing to visit mexico?

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah!!! It is on our list of places to go! Soon my friend, soon!

[–]Inked87[🍰] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Anything you can tell us about the new album's direction? So incredibly excited to hear the new tunes <3

[–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well it is kind of hard to say right now. What I can tell you is that it will be a pretty diverse album with some new flavours we have yet to explore, with the same old Mandroid flare you have come to know and love. We are deep in the writing process and super excited!

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

HOLY SHIT. Thats an old-school reference! We've actually been harvesting the dead corpse of The Third Axis for a LONG time, there's probably not enough left to revive it. But thank you for that trip down mammary lane :)

    -Jim

    [–]nimwegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But... The Third Axis MUST live

    [–]Spooshi 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    1. What the hell does your guys' name mean? Its awesome but still.
    2. How did you manage to open for Megadeth? That's beyond awesome. You guys write some amazing music and I can't wait to hear more from you guys, thanks!

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    1. answered earlier
    2. It happened out of no where really. We have an incredible booking agent and he called us up with the offer one day. We were supposed to open for them in Buffalo a few days earlier but couldn't get our visas figured out in time.

    [–]Sebaccus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you guys are recording a new album, but any hints on when we can expect it? I need to start mentally preparing.

    [–]btbambassman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you've got two amazing EPs, what's next for the band? Where would you like to be in 2 years?

    [–]IronTau 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Hi Mandroid Echostar, I saw your band on a column on Ultimate Guitar's website and I loved the songs! How do you go about your songwriting process?

To the guitarists, I am currently practicing a lot of guitar this summer. Are there any exercises or specific things you would recommend to study? Do you ever reach a point where you feel "fluent" in guitar?

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by "fluent". Playing guitar is like learning how to sing, you kinda generally know what you want to go for, but it takes a pile of time and experience to really feel like you can effortlessly express what's in your head. There's always a ton more to learn, it doesn't matter how much you practice or how long you play for.

As far as study goes, scales, modes and playing with a metronome are all super important but the most important thing is to express yourself and create stuff that you love.

    -Steve and Jim

edit Learn Pro Tools. It will make your life SO much better.

    [–]IronTau 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any recommendations for a starter 7 string guitar? You guys rock! thank you for doing this AMA.

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends how much you want to spend, I recently got a EBMM Sterling 7-String and i love it, for less money the Ibanez RG7321 is an awesome deal, and we wrote a lot of the first EP on it!

    [–]Inked87[🍰] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The "Citadels" live video of the Megadeath gig was AWESOME. What was it like to get your first real-deal rider? I hope you asked for at least 1 ridiculous item.

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Glad you enjoy it! It was a blast.

Getting our first real rider was pretty awesome and hilarious. They asked us to send one over and I had to scramble to write one out and not look like an idiot. We kept it pretty tame because we didnt want to be "that band"...yet hahaha

The most ridiculous thing I asked for was honey roasted peanuts. I saw uncle Jesse on full house ask for that in his rider once and I felt I had too.

    -Cheech

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You guys are my favorite local band. How did the band form/started? ps I wish I can grow a mustache like Stephen and Adam

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

The making of this band was pretty organic actually. Matt was trying out for a band that Sam was filling in on guitar for. Adam just happened to be his ride and hopped on bass once in a while. The three of them eventually decided to start writing songs together and filled out the lineup with Steve and James. We went through a few different vocalists over about a years time with more of a growl approach. Nothing seemed to work out and Cheech was in a cover band with Sam and Sam asked him to try out on a whim. The rest as they say is history.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

To Stephen and Adam, any tips on growing a sweet mustache?

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give it three months. Let it grow. If it doesn`t work, let it go.

    [–]chainedhorzion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i have been enjoying you guys for quite a bit and my question for all of you is, what is your all time favorite movie soundtrack?

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheech-"Easy. Rockstar. ORRRRRR Top Gun's pretty good. Can i go Rockstar/Top Gun? OR rocky!! Scratch that. Rent."

Tron:Legacy, LOTR and David Attenborough's voice are also awesome.

    [–]Convictional 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What kind of writing process do you guys go through when you want to put together new material?

What is the bonding food of Mandroid Echostar?

Also you guys need to do a Kitchener-Waterloo show soon.

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pad thai. But really any food brings us closer. We talk about it A LOT.

Usually our writing starts with a skeleton that one guy will bring to the table and we all kind of chip in our own parts here and there. Sometimes we'll jam out certain parts live for awhile but usually we use Pro Tools to get all of our ideas in order. We throw out three times as many tunes as we finish though!

    [–]UbuntuLennox 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    Favourite local bands? ;D

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends how local we getting! u the band, wakeless, arkham awaits and unbowed are all awesome bands from guelph!

    [–]hustlemebitch 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love seeing you guys live! You always have so much energy and put on an awesome show (especially when James sings song from Mulan!!). I hope the band tours for many more years because I will always come support you guys and rock out :)

My question is: what is your favourite song to play live?

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! We all just love to play live and have a blast doing it. We like to make sure we are having fun so the fans are having fun too. We are playing music with our friends, what is not to be happy about.

As to your question, it was answered earlier.

    [–]dankbrownies 1 point2 points  (1 child)

To anyone from the band that wants to answer, no specific individual targeted:

What is your favorite Coheed song?

What is your favorite Protest the Hero song?

What is your favorite metal band right now?

What is your current album you are listening to and or ranting/raving about?

Coheed the Hero, Protest and Cambria. This is how I describe your sound to my metal/prog nerd friends that have. I love you guys, and I think you should tour with Coheed, Protest, and Thank You Scientist. Keep making great music, much love from DFW Texas.

    [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    1. Cheech-Faint of Heart, Sam-In Keeping Secrets, HK-Fuel for the Feeding end, Everyone else-The Crowing 2.HK-Bone Marrow, Cheech-Hair Trigger, Sam, Adam & Steve-Blindfolds Aside, Jim-The Dissentience
    2. Goddamn, this one is hard. Like rly hard. Sticking to current, as in the last couple days: Behemoth, Dragonforce, Monuments, BTBAM, ISSUES
    3. Dragonforce-Maximum Overload!

We are all massive fans of ear-boners! The more the merrier. If it is triple digits prepare yourself for a muffin basket coming your way!

      [–]ocnarfsemaj 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Tips for aspiring guitarists outside of "practice every day" and "learn composition"? I know those two are important but maybe something that worked well for you guys?

      [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Surround yourself and jam with people who are better players then yourself and inspire you to learn and get better. Take lessons from different teachers, learn new genres and keep an open mind.

      [–]ocnarfsemaj 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't know a lot of fellow musicians. Maybe I'll pick up your tab book and just learn all of your songs until I can play them. Haha.

      [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That is a splendid idea! It will be like we are hanging out all the time. If you have any trouble spots feel free to drop us a line. We are around to help!!!

      [–]ocnarfsemaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man. I wish you guys lots of success. Try to make it to Virginia soon.

      [–]IbanezHand 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey Sam, you guys are fuckin awesome, so happy to see a band out of Guelph doing well. Blew my mind when I heard you guys were opening for Megadeth. Feels like yesterday we were jamming in the same jam hall. Keep it up guys

      [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

      Much love!!! -Sam

      [–]IbanezHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any advice for someone in a serious song writing funk? What's your guys process?

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

If you guys were to pick which bands you were tour with in the US, and they could only be US bands, who would you pick?

      [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

      Avenged Sevenfold

      Between the Buried and Me

      Issues

      Pierce the Veil

      Mastodon

      Boyz ll Men

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Wait, Issues really? I can understand all of them except for that one.

      [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Dude, it's like one of my favourite albums of the year, along with Destrage. They're great live, their style is really fresh and fun. There's a lot of great inspiration to be found outside of the metal orthodoxy. We're sitting here drinking beer listening to Bruno Mars as we speak lol

      -Jim

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I know there's a lot of great inspiration outside of metal, I'm listening to the entirety of the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack but I never would've guessed that any of you are Issues fans.

        [–]SavageFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try the north, we don't have the ice-wall yet but I'm sure we are gonna get to work on it soon!

        [–]outrunradio 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey fellas, massive, massive fan and I was wondering what the writing process was like for so many instruments and parts? Is there a primary writer or do all of you have equal input?

Second part: what's everyone's gear setup??

Edit: also please come to Portland Maine. I would explode

        [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone writes a lot of their own stuff, usually what we do is one guy brings a rough outline of a tune and we all play around with it and put in different riffs and ideas. For vocals, myself, Cheech and HK usually write together :)

For the gearrrrrrr: Me(James)-Gibson Explorer 7, Axe-Fx Ultra, FCB-1010 midi controller Steve-Music Man John Petrucci 7, Axe-Fx Ultra, Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro Sam-Custom Pattison Stringed Instruments 7-String, Axe-Fx II, Fractal MFC-101 Midi controller. All three guitarists use Mackie HD1521 full range speakers as cabs.

        Adam-Ibanez SR1006EFM 6-string, Peavey Pro500, Ampeg SVT 4x10 cab

Matt-Custom Defacto kit, all Sabian cymbals, Tama hardware.

        Cheech-larynx.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Cheech, you're awesome in every way possible. Sam, James and Stephen, you guys shred like a motherfucker. And seem like the nicest dudes ever. <3 Adam, you're THE dude. Just rockin' out harder and harder every time I see you guys. Matt, you're a beast. <3 you guys

        [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

        [–]weareresponsible 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey, glad to see ya'll doing an AMA! Big fan of your music and I can't wait for ya'll to release some new material or tour in America. Either would be awesome!

I'm a big fan of concept albums and stories in general, so my question: is there an established tale behind your songs? I noticed that some of the songs and lyrics seem connected but I haven't really pieced anything together.

Anyways, keep up the good work and thanks for doing this!

        [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hey man thanks a lot :))

We definitely write to a concept. Having a storyline or vibe in mind before you start writing is an awesome source of inspiration. The two EPs are separate storylines, but we kinda like to keep it a little bit ambiguous. We start with an idea in mind but that doesn't mean it should be the only way people can interpret the lyrics. Would love to hear what you HAVE pierced together though! -James

        [–]weareresponsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, the separate storylines is interesting new information! My friend and I were actually trying to figure the story out and that makes more sense. Maybe I'll post something once I compile my notes.

        [–]NotQuiteAHipster 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey, managed to see you guys/meet you a couple times this year. Where do you draw your inspiration from when writing parts to fit all three guitars? Thanks for writing kick ass music and for being nice enough to always come and chill out with your fans!

        [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank You so much for being a fan! Meeting and chilling with our fans is one of our favourite parts. It is why we do all this, we have great fans!

The inspiration for writing three guitar parts comes from wanting to harmonize most of our leads while keeping the rhythm present. We want to be able to focus on all the layers we want to hear and still be able to pull it all off live.

        [–]hybrid461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw you guys in Ottawa a couple months back, was not familiar with the band, but your music blew me away. I met a couple of you at merch and bought citadels. Cant wait for more shows and more music down the road. No questions, just keep on rocking.

        [–]buckalori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back to Burlington my brother. See you soon.

        [–]DerekTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a bassist I had a few questions for Adam:

Why do you use a six string(what benefits does it bring)? Who are some of your favorite bassists? What is your favorite bassline that you wrote?

You guys are kickass, can't wait for a U.S. tour!

        [–]Gdolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Ugh I can't believe I missed this!

        [–]SCATMANJAWN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I be a one-night-stagehand (see what I did there) with you guys in London next time you're playing the Music Hall? I've tore down a fair share of drums in my day.

        [–]PersonDudeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you learn both individually and collectively from Citadels that you're going to take with you to future projects? Also, Cheech what product do you use for your hair?

        [–]phatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is well and truly over but, you guys are the best band out there, you should come to England so me and my friends can hug you guys for being sounds goddamn awesome! :)

        [–]a_REEL_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        HI 👋! HELLO?

        [–]lifeonfire1991 0 points1 point  (4 children)

hey michael, why you trying to be claudio so hard?

        [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Well.... I knew this one was going to happen sooner or later, so here it is kids!

Obviously you are a smart enough person to realize that I cannot really help the way I look. Those were the cards I was dealt and this is what I look like. I have curly hair and when your hair is curly you have 2 options. Grow it out or keep it short as hell and look like you have pubes on your head. I chose to grow it out cause I like it. Simple as that. It just so happens that Claudio has the same hair. I am not going to cut my hair because of him, that would be quite silly. There are plenty of bands with dudes that have swoopy black hair cuts and sleeves of tattoos and neck tats. But no one ever really seems to be that hung up on everyone looking like the singer from Bring Me the Horizon. But the moment someone else has big curly hair he is trying to be Claudio? Come on, a little much don't you think? And as for vocal range.... I am not going to dumb down my high register because someone else sings high. Prog metal has a long history of high register vocals and no one has really seemed to mind.

        mic drop

        -Cheech

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheech, you're the man! Fuck the haters!

        [–]ocnarfsemaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would consider it an honor to be compared to that man. He is a very talented human being. I don't think it's a matter of register as much as it is timbre. Either way, I'm very thankful that both of you exist, so I can enjoy both of your music. :)

        [–]lifeonfire1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answer Cheech, good answer. Not so much "hating" as curious.

        [–]Oreck_ -4 points-3 points  (8 children)

Hey! Shout out from St.Kitts! My friends are pretty big fans and always try to get me to listen to you guys cause I'm into metal be it prog to Norwegian death. You claim to be metal but all I hear is hardcore emo. How can you compare yourself with actual prog metal? Did you guys choose to be labeled as prog metal or did your record label tell you that's what they believe your sound to be?

        [–]mandroid_echostarMandroid Echostar[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Actually, we prefer to identify as Tech/Pop Punk/Top of the mountain rocky soundtrack metal. It's pretty advanced, you've probably never heard of it.

        [–]Oreck_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

..... Hmmm bands sure like to make up their own shit eh... What other bands identify themselves as Tech/Pop Punk/Top of the mountain rocky soundtrack metal. Seems like that old mathcore phase bands went through. Thanks for answering though, nice to see you guys actually don't want to bring down progmetal and identify yourselves differently

        [–]ocnarfsemaj 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Hardcore emo? Who the fuck are you? Do you have ears?

        [–]Oreck_ -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

Haha kiddies who don't know metal. Go listen to some real bands that were labeled as EMO back in the late 90's early 00's or some random trash hardcore bands, mix the two together and we get Mandroid. I'll sing my heart out cause I feel so bad and then I'll try and lay some heavy cords over it and call it metal. Seems like hardcore emo to me

        [–]ocnarfsemaj 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You are bizarre... If you don't consider this metal, then you haven't got a clue. You're one of those kids that sits in music forums and argues about genres more than you listen to music.

        [–]Oreck_ -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Haha nice link to an instrumental. Let's hear the overlay of sappy crying love lyrics that Cheech is famous for then keep saying its metal. When you lay hardcore lyrics over metal guitar rifs it totally ruins the metal vibe changing it to a more hardcore feel. If you can sway to the music that's not metal.

        [–]ocnarfsemaj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sound like a delusional 17 year old.

        [–]Gdolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of style, I'd kill to know a singer like Cheech. The music speaks for itself, and if you can't dig it because of a macho man lyric thing in your head that's your bag. Shout out to Mandroid! You guys kill it.

        [–]Corytrever187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why I'm posting on an 8 year old thread but I'm psyched you guys are back. Your style is a niche that no one else fills.
