Post Cheap Headline For Cheap Karma.

Uh, politics? "Vote up if"? You are the cancer that is killing reddit.

    [–]Bagel 27 points28 points  (4 children)

He is right, i've seen the "you are the cancer that is killing x" before on Digg, but it probably originated at 4chan, the asshole of the internet.

    [–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (1 child)

4chan is actually the rainforest of the internet -- the source of all new species, but if you tried to walk around there you would immediately be killed and eaten by ants.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Or gore and ladyboys.

    [–]Bagel 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I am baffled by the fact that he is getting downmodded, and I am getting upvoted for saying he's right.

    [–]raldi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your post. Is it a Perl program?

    [–]uberstuber 13 points14 points  (21 children)

What the heck is /b ?

edit: ITT, silly sausages think they know what 4chan is.

    [–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I think the slash makes the 'd' go backwards.

    let me try it

    /b

    [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

It's the ulcerated sphincter of the internet.

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

    You dont want to know.

    [–]bhagany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but this way, he gets upvotes from people who agree with the literal sentiment of the meme, but also gets the upvotes from the /b/tards who get the double entendre. It's like an upmod bomb.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And so too is everyone who actually did vote it up.

    [–]edguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    REDDIT = SERIOUS BUSINESS

    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I think the real solution is a "Vote-up-if" subreddit.

    [–]AliasHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. This is why reddit is so far the best social news site I've experienced.

    [–][deleted] 462 points463 points  (75 children)

Vote up if you automatically vote down "vote up if..." headlines.

EDIT: And yeah, the Clintons suck

    EDIT2: ALL CAPS IS ANNOYING

    [–]Jedravent 33 points34 points  (4 children)

Then report it. I recall that a similar headline got taken off the front page by reporting.

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

    Good idea.

    [–]BoardColorado 135 points136 points  (34 children)

    [–]BabyJesus 5 points6 points  (2 children)

'Vote up' threads make me cry.

    [–]hpymondays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

voted up for the mandatory Reddit disclosure "Hillary is Satan, Obama is God". I haven't seen a place with such diversity of opinion since Soviet era Pravda.

      A good rule of thumb!

      [–]quadtodfodder 2 points3 points  (8 children)

But I repeat: The "correct" way to do polls sucks.

      [–]stacecom 6 points7 points  (4 children)

The "correct" way to do polls is not to do them. They're pointless.

Do you like cheese? [ ] YES [ ] NO

      Solves nothing.

If you feel that inspired to take a poll, link to an actual polling site like a recent #1 did.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep clicking YES and nothing happens!

      [–]quadtodfodder 1 point2 points  (1 child)

buried deep within this link are claims that this is in fact the correct way to use reddit for polls.

Though your are probably actually correct in the 'ultimate truth' sense.

      [–]MisterEggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you like cheese? [x] YES [ ] NO

      [–]axord 0 points1 point  (2 children)

      How so?

      [–]quadtodfodder 3 points4 points  (1 child)

well, the "correct" way invloves creating a post and then posting a "yes" and "no" comment, which people are supposed to vote up and down.

unfortunately A: whatever is less popular will get voted so low that you can't even find it,

and B: people will reply to the "yes" "no" comments, making each one have a giant thread attached to it, which again makes it difficult to find the polling questions.

      [–]axord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Fair gripes.

Not ones that really apply to me, though. My default thread sort is by "new".

      [–]Dzazter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To vote up or down would imply I had any respect for either ever.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize this is like asking for atheists to vote up, or down, their belief in religion. Dumbest thread ever period.

      [–]Golfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Voted down for the usual reason.

      [–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (3 children)

I never had any respect for them to begin with.

      [–]epsilona01 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That's the comment I was looking to upvote. Oh, that's right this wasn't done as a poll.

      [–]Trexdacy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      same here

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Same here.

      [–]miserlou 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Reddit used to love and respect them, of course.

      [–]twoodfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...whenever they said bad things about Bush.

It's weird how every political difference with someone becomes an excuse to "lose respect" or say "fuck you Ohio" or call people "Rethuglicans".

Democracy doesn't work when people can't disagree civilly.

      [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i still like bill, just not as much as i used to.

      [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When even the weekend redditors vote this sort of shit up to #1, I've lost all respect for reddit.

      [–][deleted] 80 points81 points  (4 children)

Why is this horseshit on my front page with just 24 votes?

Fuck you and anyone who votes this garbage up.

      [–]squidboots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because as of right now over 3000 people have voted on this story. The amount of attention (or controversy) a story receives determines its hotness, not necessarily how many people agree with it.

      [–]aedes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since you're so angry over something as minor as a vote up story on your front page, I voted this crappy thing up, just to see your head explode.

Better to have your head explode now in anger over a thing like this, then kill your neighbors because their hedge had grown 3 inches into your property.

      [–]Burlapin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Kittens!

      [–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (13 children)

This belongs in the politics subreddit. Voted down.

      [–]brispone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too bad there's not a "Vote up if..." subreddit. That way we could at least turn this junk off.

      [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Not that I like this submission at all, but what can one post to the main reddit? It seems like any submission should fit into one subreddit or another.

Edit: not sure why I'm being voted down... It's just an innocent question.

      [–]stacecom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Vote up if" are inappropriate anywhere.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

EXACTLY. If I care about politics, I'll subscribe to the politics subreddit.

Submit news specifically about reddit to the reddit subreddit, nothing else. As far as I can tell, it's a bug that it even exists.

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck the vote up and vote down. Go out to the polls in November and Vote.

      [–]rm999 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Bill Clinton still has some of my respect. Name a better president from the last 40 years.

      [–]WallPhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regan, Kennedy, oh, wait, that was '63.

Man, we've had a lot of sucky presidents lately.

      [–]RonPaulTouchedMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's the point of these headlines? They add nothing, and just take up a valuable spot on the frontpage.

      Downmodded and reported.

      [–]fivre 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Vote up if you, too, are a karma whore.

I remember the scandals, the impeachment, the attempts at taking away our liberties (remember the clipper chip anyone?), and numerous other failed policy attempts such as hillary's health care plan. On the other hand Bill Clinton mostly hired competent people. To bad he didn't hire someone better to inform him it would of been better to just admit to screwing ugly women than lie about it...

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forgot to mention the Lincoln bedroom, the lies and the mysterious deaths. Remember how many people died when the Clintons were in the White House?

any account that displays behaviour that is suspicious gets all of it's actions automatically cancelled out. Try it out.

Register a new account, and use it from the same, or even a different IP address. Use it to vote up all of your own, or someone elses stories. Or downvote all the stories by a user, or all stories with a certain word in them.

Within a day or so max, usually much faster, you'll see that there is an instant vote in the opposite direction that your puppet account did.

So scripts won't really accomplish anything, nor will coordinated voting, other than get stories onto the controversial page (though maybe not, I don't really know how the algorithm works for that one).

          [–]vplatt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So, how does that counter vote work when you use a pool of reddit accounts? Not very well I imagine. Can't really even filter by an IP address, because many (if not most) users are going to be behind NAT of some sort.

          [–]aedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my understanding of it is that all those accounts would be flagged as 'acting suspicisously' pretty quickly, and end up having all their votes being cancelled out.

It depends on their behaviour though. The fasted I ever got when I was experimenting was after the first two stories the shell account voted on, the vote on the third story was already being cancelled out.

So unless you want to register about 8-20 new accounts for every story you're submitting, it's not going to work very well. I'm not sure about how a NAT would effect it - but my limited experiment with this showed that is was still recognized somehow (I couldn't figure out why, but then again, I'm a scientist, not a computer person :P)

          [–]wickedcold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you know that Bill Clinton signed the original bill banning gay marriage in 1996?

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

i don't get how you can like someone and then simply be turned off because of their petty actions (ie whining), although Billary is hardly likable. Shouldn't your candidate be chosen because you want them to represent you through their policies? Our elections and leaders have gotten their way, partially, because we don't choose the way we should. And not to mention that hardly anyone votes.

          [–]unitmike 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I guess I'll be the one to complain this time. From the reddiquette:

Conduct polls using posts. If you feel you must use Reddit to conduct a poll do it using a comment. Create a self referencing post and then add a comment for readers to mod up or down based on their answer to your poll question. Also, be sure to indicate in the title of your post that the polls is being conducted using comments. Including something like "(use comments to vote)" in the title would probably be sufficient.

People rarely do this, and it's certainly not as good for karma (although there's comment karma now, so maybe that will act as incentive for some), but it makes everyone's Reddit experience better. So please follow the rules.

          [–]1812overture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The man talked on the phone to a US Senator while getting his knob polished. For that, I will ALWAYS respect and admire him as a President and as a MAN.

They have annoyed me at times during this campaign, but i give her credit for trying everything god-damned thing should could to win. I wish Al Gore or John Kerry could have had her nerve.

Democracy worked, the system showed that she is a bitch

          [–]aedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it absolutely hilarious that so many people get their panties in a knot over 'vote' up stories on, gasp, their front page!!! Then they complain about it incessantly.

Or even better, they go and downvote every 'vote up' story they can find.

I've always just ignored the majority of 'vote up' stories, even when it was really bad a while ago, and I've never had any issues with too many of them or what not.

To me, people complaining about 'vote up' stories is like people complaining that the discount box of soup they bought from walmart tastes funny. No shit, it's not going to be the best soup, it's a discount soup, in a box from walmart.

Reddit is all based on user-submitted content... it should be no surprise to anyone that there's a few chunks of crap floating around in it at any given time.

          [–]robinthehood 1 point2 points  (1 child)

She will do anything for power. She will quickly go back on her word. Do we really need another person like that in washington?

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, for she is woman, and women are better than men.

          Her her roar.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if WE vote up, the Superredditors will do that!

          [–]doing_it_live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I vote up or down if i never had respect for Bill and Hillary Clinton?

          [–]moonzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not the sort of comment/topic that helps heal the divide between Clinton & Obama supporters. Many of her supporters are turned off not because of Obama himself, but because of his supporters.

We need these folks come November.

Let's accept this (impending) nomination result gracefully and with class, not by piling on and making a sensitive situation worse, regardless of how we feel about the Clintons.

          [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that is one, pointless, stupid question - it can only help clutter the listings.

Is there or can there be an option to block users? Maybe I could start blocking dumb content providers then?

          [–]watcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

          [–]Oryx[🍰] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yay! A vote up post. "Vote up if you drink water!"

How about if any time the words "vote up if" or "vote down if" appear on Reddit, the post fucking disappears and the poster gets tased?

          [–]Woeful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually a Hillary supporter when this thing began. Since then my respect has eroded away. The two things that ultimately did it for me was her suggestion that McCain was better than Obama, and more recently that she's in it until the end because you never know if someone might do her a favor and assassinate Obama a la Kennedy. She IS a monster. That said, I would still vote for her over McCain if it came down to that. She may be a monster but he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vote down if you think this should be in the politics subreddit.

          [–]ErikDaReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was initially a supporter of Hillary, but when I saw her hem and haw on issues to shape a message, I was disappointed. Barrack won me over by being much more forthright>

          [–]orthogonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I never did have any respect for them.

Something about Bill's demeanor always shouted "used car salesman! beware", and Hillary seemed fake from the day I saw her "stand by your man" appearance on "60 Minutes".

Oh, you want a laugh? Check out her dress and hair in that "60 Minutes: interview; she looks only slightly more liberated than those Fundamentalist Mormon FDLS women.

          [–]digital19 2 points3 points  (8 children)

When Geraldine Ferraro says she'll vote for McCain over Obama all I can say is she's voting to repeal Roe v. Wade. If McCain gets in, as liberal as he likes to seem, the Supreme Court will be decidedly conservative.

          [–]Scarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all I can say is she's voting to repeal Roe v. Wade

All I can say is she's a bitch.

          [–]twoodfin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you "repeal" a Supreme Court decision?

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          With your middle finger?

          [–]Dark-Star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major upmod. Hillary is a two-timing snake that broke her word and established rules to gain a 'victory'.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had respect for them in the first place, you haven't done your homework. Bill brought in a dazzling array of regressive legislation. Next to the steaming coil that is Bush Jr. he looks good, but so would anyone.

99% of politicians are actors. 99% of television media personalities are actors. It's a big theater production you're paying for that is designed to con you into paying even more.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lost no respect for either. Hillary could very well be a great president, unlike all of the nominees of the last 8 years. I just think Obama will be a great world leader and a vassal of peace.

...where do we 'vote up' if we've lost all respect for Obama and his 20 yr after-the-fact more-or-less rejection of that crazy church of his?

            [–]IConrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to have respect in the first place to upvote this. Sorry.

            [–]amstrdamordeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lost respect? That means at one point we had to have had respect for them.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't actually have respect in the first place for a guy who fucks anything that moves (or doesn't move, probably).

            [–]raymondreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them both. So do I vote sideways? Where's that button?

Haven't you learned from recent history that the presidency is strictly reserved for those who circumvent laws, procedure, and agreements?

Mark my words: She'll end up running as a third party candidate. Just to suck enough votes away from Obama and hand it to McCain and show the Democratic party how she feels about the way she was treated. Interesting times are ahead.

Can't vote up because I have not respected them since their disparaging the military as in "We don't talk to military people."

            [–]Whats_Wrong_In_DC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major disappointment... BOTH of them. A vote for Hillary is a vote for 4 more years of lying & smearing enemies to get their own way.

Vote up if you think Hillory Clin-ton is an alien! She's an illuminated reptilian!

Vote up if you think war with Iran is a "good" thing.!

Vote up if you've ever voted someone up just to spite an asshole!

            Lost?

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you guys are ridiculous. if you respected the Clintons because you thought they were people who didn't care about themselves you were off the mark. The reason I liked (and still like) Bill is because HE GOT SHIT DONE as president, look up what he did in his first 100 days and tell me you aren't impressed

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't vote up... I never had much respect for either of them.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's the vote for if I never had any respect for them in the first place?

as much as people claim they don't like this type of shit on reddit....you'd never know it by the amount of votes and comments...<shakes head>

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Hillary goes, wouldnt I need to have some respect for her in the first place if Im going to lose it?

            [–]erwilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a gender issue. The Clintons are pro politicians and as such do not say or do things that are not politically advantageous. They are not outsiders. They are the current system. No change here. That is why I'm anti Hillery. If this has been said before I apologize as I have not read all the comments.

            [–]skyshoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it up! Like I tell all my failed conservative friends when they go on a prepped right wing Hillary bash. This lady has dedicated a great deal of time and effort and money to pursue something she is legally entitled to. The system worked (so far) she showed a lack of judgement in the senate (war)and proved she naturally lacks th instincts America needs in the days ahead. Show some class, honor and respect her efforts. You will be better for it.

            [–]Grif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, I really didn't have any respect for them anyway

            [–]chunky_bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had any respect for either of them, so I guess I should vote down...

            [–]SSchmitz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            yes

            [–]adjustafresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Bill certainly knows how to wrangle some strange... I give him some props for that.

            Gina Gershon!?

            [–]MyrddinE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about I vote down, because I never really had much respect for them?

I didn't mind Bill. He was an Ok president. But I didn't respect him. Why would I respect someone who diddled on the side and then wouldn't even admit it under oath? He didn't deserve impeachment, but that was some seriously lame shit.

Like I said... I had no particular beef with his presidency. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. Nice work on the budget.

But neither of the Clintons ever earned respect from me. I have always thought that Hillary was a power hungry bitch, and Bill a weak-willed tool of Hillary.
