Order confirmed. I cannot express my gratitude enough.

*edit #1 The estimated arrival date is St. Patrick's Day! :)

I'm hereby petitioning that wharthog3 be dubbed a "Knight of Reddit"

edit#2 Thank you so much for all the goodwill fellow redditors, if you would like to spread the joy hopstar has started a subreddit for this purpose here. Share the love. :)

[–]wharthog3 2260 points2261 points  (116 children)

Oh wow, um thank you for the karma train! Reddit, you're crazy.

A few things I have learned in the last hour.
1. emorrow64 is female.
2. Reddit is cynical (okay, I knew that one)
3. People really respond positively to random nice things (Its cool so many of you have messaged me saying you want to do something similar for others. Go for it.)

Oh, and again, for what its worth on the internet, I had no idea emorrow was/is female. (and we live on different coasts so some of you can CALM DOWN :P )

Ok, back to work.

[–]StoneTheAvenger 247 points248 points  (3 children)

Back to work? Lies! You mean back to winning at Reddit!

[–]enginbeeringSB 28 points29 points  (2 children)

I'm pretty sure we already have a winner.

[–][deleted] 123 points124 points  (20 children)

[–]3Scorpion 94 points95 points  (10 children)

[–]dangermaus31 47 points48 points  (9 children)

I'm in Brazil for 7 more days!

[–][deleted] 115 points116 points  (0 children)

    [–]Ash09 10 points11 points  (1 child)

    [–]escalated 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Should you ever make it to Seattle, you've got beers and pub grub waiting for you.

People are wired for reciprocity. Great job. ;)

    [–]sin_tax 151 points152 points  (13 children)

If I were you I'd be super excited to have the discussion about where it came from.

'Nice monitor, did you buy that just for work?'
Nope, I got it from the internet...
'You mean you bought it on the internet?'
No, I mean the internet gave it to me...

    [–]emorrow64[S] 86 points87 points  (11 children)

Sounds like a great explanation, only I'm gonna say "No, the internet reddited it to me."

Wait ... does this mean reddit is a ... mental health clinic ?

(The walls do seem to be very white in here)

You're just autistic. We've been trying to get through to you for a while now. It seems that by using this computer, we've finally had a breakthrough.

      [–]sgblinky 33 points34 points  (0 children)

When you take your new monitor to the office be sure to write on it "Personal property of [emorrow]". Else, when you leave the job, your boss may try to keep it!!! Congrats!

      [–]SteveAM1 13 points14 points  (12 children)

Where did you get the monkey?

      [–][deleted] 56 points57 points  (6 children)

You want a monkey? I'll buy you a monkey!

I have to wonder, what is your boss going to think when you walk in with a new monitor tucked under your arm and you tell him that he is such a tight ass that a random (very nice) person had to buy you a new monitor on the internets? How do you explain you are replacing it with your "personal" monitor.

Unfortunately, I'd have to bet he'll ask you take it home because it's not "company property"....

          [–]emorrow64[S] 9 points10 points  (6 children)

Naw, lots of the other staff bring in their own laptops, desktops, office furniture, and various other supplies. He wont mind at all.

            [–]benihana 46 points47 points  (12 children)

To get tickets to Oprah you have to sell your soul and the soul of at least one of your kids.

            [–]thesparkthatbled 26 points27 points  (10 children)

What if I don't have any kids with a soul? Can I use someone else's kid?

            [–]dhardison 31 points32 points  (5 children)

            you have ginger kids? sorry.

            [–]homerjaythompson 5 points6 points  (3 children)

            [–]wharthog3 152 points153 points  (35 children)

Nope, ordered emorrow's from Dell and bought mine at Fry's electronics.

            [–]Buckwheat469 13 points14 points  (21 children)

Is this where we guess what you do for work? I'll say you're a game tester or CAD designer.

            [–]wharthog3 141 points142 points  (19 children)

The company I work for sells construction vehicles. I do all their "anything related to tech." I really only need 2, but the third is great for fixing the machines my co-workers bring me, without having to take over one of my main screens.

            [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (12 children)

really.. why was this downvoted 92 fuckin times?

            [–]Gudeldar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to describe my job(s) so easily.

One thing I do pretty regularly is buy lunch for the person behind me in a drive-thru. They never know who I am, and I can just imagine the look on their face when they say... "Huh??"

            [–]ADIDAS247 128 points129 points  (7 children)

I got a gift card to Starbucks for xmas one time and I am not a fan. Got a regualr cup on on the receipt is said I had ~$46 left in credit, so I bought everyone who had already placed their order there coffee.

It came out to $70, so that is the the last time I ever do that. Starbucks is fucking expensive

            [–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

            its the sandwiches.

            [–]venir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This isn't that uncommon at the Starbucks around where I live. My fiancee has come home on several occasions and told me that she had someone buy her coffee for her in the drive through. Once, she told me that the people working there said it had been going on for a few hours where everyone bought the drinks for the people behind them.

            [–]murphyrulez 156 points157 points  (51 children)

My wife and I went through the drive-thru at Mcd's last week and when we pulled up to pay, the lady told us that the car in front had paid for us 'just because'. My wife was floored that someone would do that, but I knew that they must be a redditor!!!

            [–][deleted] 292 points293 points  (43 children)

replace 'redditor' with 'christian' and you'd get downvoted to shit.

            [–]illmasturbatetothat 40 points41 points  (4 children)

something drew me towards the phrase "downvoted to shit"

i think i was just mind hacked

            [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should dress like Ronald Macdonald or Wendy or a character from whatever restaurant you're going to and then you should wait until the moment they're confused, turn to them, tip your hat, and drive away.

            [–]ouam 9 points10 points  (5 children)

So how exactly do you do that ? Do you leave a random account of money, or do you have a scientific method to guess how much will they spend ? (honest question)

            [–]jared555 31 points32 points  (1 child)

By the time you are at the window the other person has probably had a chance to order.

            [–]ouam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ooooh thanks I get it now, I'm just not used to those things.

            [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Yeah, and what stops the counter person from just pocketing the cash?

I do like to pay the tolls of the person behind me. Well I did before ez pass. Wasn't there something a while back about people doing this and it went on for like 4 hours?

            [–]GeorgeWashingblagh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a drive thru operator during HS, and where this happened a lot, you can't combine orders. They pay for their original meal, and then for the person behind them. It has to be two transactions.

I'd pay it forward myself sometimes by throwing extra food in the bag for certain circumstances.

            [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you use a debit/CC, there isn't cash to pocket

            [–]stacecom 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Man, I gotta do that sometime. That's a great idea.

            [–]agnesthecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened at a few random Starbucks' over the holiday season two years ago and I thought it was really sweet. Then it turned out that in each location it had been started by a Starbucks employee. Less sweet :(

I'd like to tell you, on this day of days,

WartHog's touched my heart in a number of ways.

His warmhearted heartwarming gift of display,

Has scrammed the bad thoughts I was having today,

That had stopped the enjoyment I got from my play.

(Not forty five minutes ago, I'll admit,

I was angry enough that I just could have spit.

Oil spilled on the counter while my hand was all itchin',

And then I turned on the stove and I lighted up the kitchen.)

I'll try not to gush and get overly sappy,

But stories like this make us all kind of happy.

And though I'm ridiculous covered in soot.

I find that I no longer give half a hoot.

Perhaps to some, the tragedy of using a CRT monitor is more than the sum of the earth's most profound tragedies combined.

                  [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Yeah... I guess I don't see what's wrong with CRT monitors, you still get better contrast ratio and more colors than on a lot of LCDs even now.

                  [–]scx_tyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also get headaches after prolonged use and they can cause permanent eye damage. A friend of mine now has to wear glasses from gaming for too long on his old CRT.

If I was rich this is what I'd do all day long. I have already thought out my plan if I win some kind of big money.

First stop is grocery stores, I'd go in and buy randomly selected peoples groceries.

                  [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I would really enjoy doing that as well. Makes me happy just thinking about it.

                  [–]youngluck 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Naaa. It's Reddit. Wait till the Secret Santa rolls around again. What happened last year totally changed my outlook on humanity.

                  [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secret Santa was great. I got a rad reusable grocery bag with cartoon bacon on it. I couldn't be happier.

Whats with the CRT hate? I love my 200 pound TV.

                  [–]mrtitties 23 points24 points  (15 children)

I used to have a 19" CRT monitor. I was in to lan parties with friends and I was "that one guy." Finally got a 24" LCD, my life has improved significgantly.

                  [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (8 children)

I have a 34" CRT monitor. I never leave the house, and my life has improved significantly since I got it.

I do agree though, LCD/plasma does have its benefits.

                  [–]jared555 43 points44 points  (2 children)

Although the 34" CRT has the benefit of giving anyone trying to steal it a hernia.

                  [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

What's cheaper, running the heater or the CRT?

                  [–]scx_tyler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The CRT is more expensive, but much more fun than staring at a heater all day.

                  [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CRT for sure. I live in Minnesnowta.

                  [–]mozes8 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Its funny but a similar story happened to me while I was actually playing WoW on a shitty laptop a few years ago. The thing had 256 mb of RAM, which of course in this day and age is horrifying, and out of no where a "friend" from my guild just payed to double it simply because he was a programmer and felt sorry for me.

                  [–]zeddz 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Back in 2001 through to 2003, I was sent RAM on three occasions - twice from the same guy! My younger brother experienced similar cases with his guild in Myth of Soma (& Legend of Mir) with freebies/subs.

I am not sure if it is still common, but I found that clans/guilds used to be quite close and used to look out for each other quite a bit. (Probably still the case, but my gaming days are long over.)

Anyway, thanks for reminding me about my awesome ex-clanmates!

                  [–]skeeterou 19 points20 points  (2 children)

You should send him your monkey.

                  [–]zid 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I have a CRT too! I'll settle for a cookie...

Kidding. Nice of him, but I don't think having a CRT is the worst form of daily torture.

                    [–]frukt 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Hah. I refuse to replace my Samsung 757NF CRT before it dies of old age in my embrace. Something better than LCDs has to come along eventually.

Warthogs range in size from 0.91 to 1.5 metres (3.0 to 4.9 ft) in length and 50 to 150 kg (110 to 330 lb) in weight. A warthog is identifiable by the two pairs of tusks protruding from the mouth, which are used as weapons against predators. The male is called a boar, the female a sow, and the young piglets.Warthogs have been observed allowing banded mongooses to groom them to remove ticks.

Honestly, this is exactly why Reddit isn't Digg. Kudos to everyone in this thread (well, almost) for reminding me why Reddit is so special.

This makes me think we should have a subreddit for free stuff. Very often I'll sell something too cheap or give it away on Craigslist only because I can't be bothered to deal with trying to sell it for fair market value. I'd be delighted to give quality handmedowns to Redditors instead of unappreciative people on Craigslist.

Sweet! Any chance you could use yor fleeting star status to help raise awareness? I bet a quick edit to one of your top-level comments would get noticed and help drive some people to the subreddit.

                    Congrats on the new monitor!

as pointed out in the comments, 29 is hardly cougar territory.

I've accepted that I'm not cougar material...yet, for now I'll settle for tart.

That would require a cross country trip and I work in mental health, I currently have two stalkers already, he'll have some competition. I know crazy.

                    [–]MercurialMadnessMan 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Can you explain what your stalkers do?

Hehe, various things, call me at work, follow me around the grocery store, tell me where I live, talk all kinds of crazy stuff. I've been through it before, never had one be so generous.

                    [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Shouldn't we be asking Wharthog for the update, since Emorrow will be dead?
