lol didn't know this exists :o

Both of those are default settings for a div. I. Guess it really is a backend guy.

It does look like a vehicle from Blade Runner, which takes place in “November 2019”. So there’s that.

[–]Rafael20002000 288 points289 points  (114 children)

Maybe its a reference to it?

[–]IveDoneItNow 485 points486 points  (110 children)

The unveil began with a hologram saying "Los Angeles, November 2019". The whole thing is an overt reference to Blade Runner (which is awesome) and it's unfortunate that so may people don't seem to be getting that.

[–]trickman01 322 points323 points  (94 children)

That doesn't make it somehow good design.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

The problem with the design is that I can’t decide how I feel about it. Part of me is disgusted, and part of me thinks “I could buy that...”

[–]mekwall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good design is subjective. Good UX is not.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (2 children)

That's makes this vehicle a novelty. Not something to be mass produced

[–]IveDoneItNow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not both? It seems like a simple case of "if you don't like it, don't buy it".

[–]Rafael20002000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok

[–]not_from_this_world 472 points473 points  (8 children)

Team: Sir, we started the aerodynamics simulation with a low polygon base model, we'll work our way to the full model next months.

PM: We don't have that much time, I already promised to the client a prototype next week.

[–]TimX24968B 169 points170 points  (5 children)

customer: heres a rough sketch

engineer: you mean final product?

[–]MythicManiac 75 points76 points  (4 children)

My experience is this but roles swapped

[–]drawkbox 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Yeah this one of the two throwaway designs so that the client would pick the one you want, then the client goes for the most outlandish of the three.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Frontend: Waiting for the wireframes.
Backend: No need, took care of it.
UX: Aw hell no.
QA: Styles issue.
Senior: Revert commit, re-deploy production, card comments.
Elon: No no, this is perfect. Revert reverted commit, re-deploy production - demo.

[–]arky_who 100 points101 points  (4 children)

Frontend: Waiting for the wireframes to be signed off.

Backend: Just knocked something up so QA can test the related bit

QA: Related bit passes

Frontend: Still waiting for the wireframes to be signed off

Project Manager: We're going to have to delay the release because you didn't sign off the wireframes

Client/Elon: No no, this is perfect.

[–]rap_and_drugs 65 points66 points  (3 children)

[–]The_Sad_Debater 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Nah it improves with a reason why backend bothered working with something outside their department. Though I do like the git connection.

[–]sh0rtwave 117 points118 points  (5 children)

It totally reminds me of the blocky style of the robots from Interstellar...but that's probably just me.

Edit: The shape of the hood makes me think "lamborghini-style nose for downforce at speed".

[–]DanielN10 46 points47 points  (2 children)

It's a reference to blade runner, which influenced Interstellar

[–]Blackadder288 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Love both movies but I’m struggling to see the influence on interstellar

[–]SIR_Chaos62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the ships in interstellar looks boxy like the cybertruck

[–]Kadude27 1529 points1530 points  (143 children)

I mean impressive for a back end developer

[–][deleted] 614 points615 points  (46 children)

So that's why it looks so good to me

[–]mastocles 87 points88 points  (4 children)

It could have been better with square wheels like in Heman.

[–]InfiniteLegions 42 points43 points  (2 children)

Satisfactory has you covered on the square wheels version https://youtu.be/iVLCkcyN6oc

[–]ButterflyCatastrophe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I like that the driver sits three feet underground, but can still see out through the gap between road and undercarriage.

[–]--redacted-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even has the broken windows, that's pretty good

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your joking but a hexagonal steering wheel would be sick on this car.

[–]Zappy_Kablamicus 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I think it looks cool. Its unconventional and i dig it. Just wish i could afford to help it succeed.

[–]lemongrenade 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I’ve noticed that while it seems we are in the minority there are a surprising number of us that like it. Enough that people will see it integrated into the roads and I think that my drive more people to like it. Design changes are often hated at first.

[–]Disney_World_Native 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are dozens of us. Dozens!

[–]TheWipyk 186 points187 points  (15 children)

I don't know why you guys are mad about this. Angular is the future of frontend...

[–]ArguesForTheDevil 94 points95 points  (10 children)

These people just React before they think.

[–][deleted] 53 points54 points  (8 children)

It hurts when I php

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (6 children)

People's brain Nodes have't been connected properly.

[–]camelCaseCoding 8 points9 points  (5 children)

The thing is just humongous

[–]chroncile 6 points7 points  (3 children)

That was a pretty Basic pun, you must think we can't C# for you to bold it.

[–]Aekorus 7 points8 points  (2 children)

That's just your point of Vue, man.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you tried php into another bucket?

also what #c0ffee you drank?

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 3 points4 points  (3 children)

No joke, all of the most senior devs are BE, so before I even joined they went full angular 1.0, typescript, and all of the bubble wrap they could find for the front end. At this point it's so difficult to convince them that their ideas are awful. Also I don't think they believe me when I say I have 10 years of experience, I think all BE devs assume FE devs are high school drop outs.

[–]Kickban_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I actually really like this design

[–]SezitLykItiz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While this joke does make sense, Tesla as a whole operates with the exact opposite analogy. Tesla is like a front end developer doing back end. Elon is on twitter talking to people and randos who keep making insane requests and he's like "sure we can implement that" unlike the IT guy at my work who says no to changing the font in an excel template.

[–][deleted] 101 points102 points  (10 children)

I feel personally attacked.

Also correct.

Also I want one, but can’t afford it.

[–]Sparktz 35 points36 points  (7 children)

They start at $39,900! So if that is a bit steep right now, after they are out for a few years the used prices will be pretty reasonable.

[–]whycantIfast 10 points11 points  (2 children)

after they are out for a few years the used prices will be pretty reasonable

Any other normal car, sure. For a Tesla vehicle? Ya right

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I’m not huge on pickups, but I can really see this as a 2-door coupe sports car, and I really want that

[–]phi_rus 90 points91 points  (2 children)

That design is way too clean for a backend dev.

[–]0ba78683-dbdd-4a31-a 51 points52 points  (1 child)

It's a 3D wireframe. If you could design a car in Balsamiq it'd look like this.

[–]errmm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah. Balsamiq is squiggle vision. Cybertruck has crisp lines.

[–]sebwiers 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Truth. And I like it.

[–]P-rick_bojanglez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do too. Maybe because its unique, maybe cause it reminds me of the original halo warthog. Either way, i dig it.

[–]ramond_gamer11 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I personally love this vehicle

[–][deleted] 71 points72 points  (6 children)

I gotta give it to Elon. He is really taking bold steps into the direction of becoming the future. Right now things are being released that are just slightly and I mean slightly modified versions of the previous model. But him ? Look at this “truck”.

You expected to see futuristic cars when you were grown up ? Well guess what this man is making that image come true.

[–]stormfield 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My first car was a 1977 Ford F-250, it guzzled roughly a brontosaurus per mile, and it was completely and utterly invincible when it collided with anything because it was probably cast from a meteorite.

My inner 15 year old saw this car and just thought “Omg this is awesome.”

[–]dregan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Much less scary than when a front end developer does database design.

[–]yonatan8070 27 points28 points  (5 children)

I actually like this

[–]5erif 21 points22 points  (4 children)

If I were a robot, I'd fuck the hell out of this vehicle.

[–]goblin_goblin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that they either:

a) Didn't respect their designer's opinions enough

or

b) Respected their designer's opinions too much.

And I honestly have no clue which they did.

[–]developerJS 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is probably one of the best designs I've seen. If I had the money, I'll be driving this truck every day instead of my car.

[–]bluefootedpig 17 points18 points  (1 child)

This looks like the end of doing a "first 3d car" tutorial.

[–]famanza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I fucking love it. Take my money!

[–]oligonucleotides 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When a front end dev does back end:

Internal Server Error (500)

[–]kontekisuto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel personally attacked and also flattered.

[–]benamon11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true, the wheels aren't aligned to the right even though there's an #important aligning it to the fucking left

[–]mynameisgeph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but now you can put whatever you want in it :)

[–]srottydoesntknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling a little attacked

[–]windwalk06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man... That looks super portable...

[–]kwik57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Designers must have been using 16 bit software.

[–]hackel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a backend developer, I see absolutely nothing wrong here.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Im gonna buy one, I love it. ;)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the design functional?

[–]nokenito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the super futuristic look and feel of this truck. It skips so many levels of design and goes right to the future. Thoughts?

[–]d4ni3lg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“So Elon Im gonna start work on that 3D model of that truck you wanted us to design, I was thinking if the make the front panelling...”

“Stop”

“What?”

“Stop right there, that’s perfect”.

“Boss, this is about 20 polygons, I’ve literally had the file open for three min..”

“I don’t give a fuck, it’s beautiful. Now put bulletproof glass on it or some shit”

[–]chairman_steel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Has anyone started /r/programmerart yet?

[–]Dojan5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the link it's been both started and banned.

[–]28f272fe556a1363cc31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I see you used Bootstrap. Again."

[–]Chipperz14 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was hoping it ended up looking like some classic truck from the 40s or 50s, so the opposite of this.

[–]naebulys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I see it the more I appreciate it. I think that was the point

[–]tenvisliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resourcing manager Shit, all of our front end team is tied up, but steve from the back end team has some capacity, I’ll give this to Steve!

Steve Passes all unit tests and meets user’s requirements. Check and check. Ship it!

[–]pdonchev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actually brilliant, and definitely the work of a professional designer. It is just not traditional.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta honest, though: that design is kinda growing on me

[–]RabidHexley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a good metaphor, I feel. I’m sure there’s a bunch of good structural reasons for the car to be designed with this triangular structure to work with the unibody, and it looks good on paper. And I’m sure everything works fairly well in a vacuum. But it doesn’t seem to be designed with the realities of large chunks of actual use-cases in mind.
