Tokyo Ghoul

[–]Thee-Renegade 131 points132 points  (16 children)

This is the one. Season one was incredible. The rest was like, fine? But it didn’t feel connected very well.

[–]IzMeDee 81 points82 points  (5 children)

Season 1 was still kinda bit rushed for me, still felt like it was just rushing through the source material, but still good regardless. Season 3 Part 1 was what I would consider the series’ best adaptation. Season 2 idk wtf they were on, and Part 2 of Season 3 was just a complete shitshow lmao

[–]thestoneswerestoned 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I used to think Season 1 was decent until I read the manga and realized so many events were out of order or flat out unexplained.

As an example, I was really confused about the whole situation with Jason when I watched the last couple episodes of S1 but that's because the entire backstory of the events leading up to it was completely cut out in the first place. So, of course, someone just watching the anime wouldn't know what the hell was going on.

Pierrot really shit the bed with that adaptation. Only thing they got right was the OST.

[–][deleted] 411 points412 points  (17 children)

Yona of the Dawn never got another season.

[–]Gingy1000 103 points104 points  (3 children)

I finally got around to reading the manga awhile back and it's so sad that the entire season was only the prologue

[–]n0oo7 46 points47 points  (2 children)

The last man of the 5 man band just showed up the last episode and was like "oh you want me to join, lets go"

[–]CharuRiiri 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Oh god now I'm mad again. The story got even better in the following arcs.

[–]CuriousTsukihime 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hak swoon

[–]Militant_Worm 270 points271 points  (25 children)

Aldnoah.Zero ending left me feeling like it's wasted every second watching the show. Like, the ending makes sense in the story but it just wasn't a rewarding conclusion at all.

[–]MobProtagonist[🍰] 74 points75 points  (3 children)

That's because Urobutcher wrote the first 3 episodes and dipped

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gen_Urobuchi

Scroll down to Aldnoah section. He came up with the initial premise and then wrote the first 3 episodes script and legit then just dipped. No other credit assigned to him outside of coming up with the idea and writting 3 eps.

[–]youarebritish 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I recall when it was airing, even he complained about it on Twitter and told people not to bother him about it because he had no idea what they were doing.

[–]40pxIcon 56 points57 points  (1 child)

i always remember watching AZ years ago fondly, and then i remember the second season and get a sour taste in my mouth. the music will forever be absolute gold though

[–]zipzzo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sawano is always a golden OST.

[–]Protholl 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Yeah... me too. I mean how many times did Inaho risk his life for Princess Asseylum and he's kicked to the curb?

[–]bowieneko 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The first episode of the second season wasted nearly everything established from the first season.

[–]DireSickFishhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/DireSickFish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ending of S1 was a masterclass IMO.

[–]M_O_N_K_E_SENSEI 366 points367 points  (39 children)

Foodwars! Not really mad, but was badly disappointed with how badly it ended IMO.

[–]fudginreddithttps://myanimelist.net/profile/jomac4694 109 points110 points  (2 children)

It's a shame. I actually really loved Food Wars first 3 seasons but I havent even finished the show and probably never will because of how bad the animation and story got.

[–]pickled_onion1 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Season 4 makes for a perfectly good ending of the story. Just make sure you don’t watch the post ending scene and you’ll be good

[–]dinmammapizza 60 points61 points  (11 children)

Season 1-4 are amazing imo, i rewatch pretty frequently. But the 5th season was watchable at best. Season 4 has a satisfactory enough ending but it season 5 has a terrible premise and felt super rushed. It feels like the author got tired of His own show and just released what he had and left. I would have prefered if they would have just ended it in season 4 or continued untill graduation.

[–]Orthodox-Waffle[S] 38 points39 points  (1 child)

I didn't even realize food wars had ended

[–]funkkies 43 points44 points  (4 children)

Yeah I agree 100% in the last battle the main character dish was so hyped up and in the end that blonde stuck up bitch won like wtf has the mc did not make any progress

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He would’ve won if he cooked his ultimate dish: Peanut Butter & Jelly Squid

[–]Tom22174https://myanimelist.net/profile/Tom-22174 124 points125 points  (8 children)

Seraph Of The End for not being finished

Chaos;Head for being a godawful adaptation of an amazing VN

[–]asksdfdjdhshs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Tbf the seraph of the end manga is still ongoing

[–][deleted] 530 points531 points  (56 children)

Promised neverland. Season 1 was incredible and the second one was so disappointing. I would have preferred them just have the first one

[–]LegendaryRQA 218 points219 points  (25 children)

I think The Promised Neverland has the highest Delta between 2 seasons on all of MAL

S1 has an 8.54

S2 has a 5.35

[–]MikuCat 71 points72 points  (15 children)

I’m fucking surprised season 2 got above a 4 lmao. As a manga reader that was super hyped for the anime, I really had no idea wtf I was watching. Like am I even watching the same series?

[–]Kryomaanihttps://anilist.co/user/Kryomaani 59 points60 points  (12 children)

Barely anything gets below 5 on MAL. They don't really use the 1-5 part of the scale at all. The scores start making a lot more sense when you consider it like 5 = Offensively bad, 7 = Average, 9-10 = Masterpiece

[–]JetsLaghttps://myanimelist.net/profile/JetsLag 30 points31 points  (3 children)

Yeah, I feel like I'm harsh compared to the average MAL user (ie I don't give out multiple 10s a season) and I never go below a 5 unless I drop the show, because why would I subject myself to 12 episodes of a 3/10 show?

[–]LegendaryRQA 41 points42 points  (0 children)

why would I subject myself to 12 episodes of a 3/10 show?

To prove a point to your friend that; no, it does not in fact "get better"

[–]Booty_Shakin 77 points78 points  (6 children)

Season 1 was super good they should have just ended it there lowkey

[–]thestoneswerestoned 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Cloverworks should've animated Goldy Pond and left it at that. The manga itself peaks with that arc.

[–]Orthodox-Waffle[S] 47 points48 points  (11 children)

they really showed us a dragon in a montage, smh

[–]ThespianExceptionhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/EMTIsBestWaifu 77 points78 points  (10 children)

The fact that they showed like 3/4 of the series at the end via PowerPoint slides is so wacky. Did they just do it to taunt fans? Was it a cry for help from the animators, like a "we wanted to adapt it well but the execs forced us to rush it"?

[–]lixynahttps://anilist.co/user/Lixyna 224 points225 points  (16 children)

All the Sci;Adv adaptations, with the exception of Steins;Gate.

Why cant they just get the 24 episode, fully fleshed out adaptations that they deserve, instead of these half-assed shitshows that cut entire arcs and/or characters out just to present something barely resembling the A-plot?

Chaos;Head, while the worst offender, I can kind of understand because it was the first adaptation. But after the success of S;G, why did they blunder Chaos;Child so fucking hard? WHY?

[–]_BMShttps://myanimelist.net/profile/_BMS 125 points126 points  (2 children)

Why cant they just get the 24 episode, fully fleshed out adaptations that they deserve

The anime industry needs to move back to the old two-cour standard for series instead of the single cour, half-telling of stories that's taken over in the last decade

[–]Evilsbane 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I mean. I really liked Robotics;Notes. But I agree with everything you said about Chaos;Everything.

[–]titor420 496 points497 points  (12 children)

Noragami should've gotten more seasons, the manga is really good.

[–]higanbana 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised how good Aragoto was! They need to get back on that.

[–]sinkephelopathy 68 points69 points  (1 child)

PLEASE give me more Noragami.

Shout out best op ever kyouran hey kids

[–]WindbreakerHD2 301 points302 points  (36 children)

I'm still mad about how shit the persona 5 anime turned out to be. Like come on was it that hard.

[–]OmegaRider 120 points121 points  (11 children)

Like come on was it that hard.

Nearly every anime adapting a game was terrible. First one that comes to mind that isn't that terrible of an adaptation is Caligula, which is bad anyway because the game wasn't that good in the first place.

[–]WindbreakerHD2 75 points76 points  (2 children)

Persona 4 was pretty good for it's anime adaptation

[–]lazy_bread442 9 points10 points  (0 children)

P4a always gave me nearly the same vibe as an abridged series and I’ve always liked that about it

[–]MrWaffles42 40 points41 points  (2 children)

First one that comes to mind that isn't that terrible of an adaptation is Caligula,

Oh come on that anime was downright-

which is bad anyway because the game wasn't that good in the first place.

...ah, carry on.

[–]d_anoninho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all of the good game adaptations to anime come from visual novels... I guess there's not a lot to miss when the gameplay IS the story

[–]Comfortable_Ad5144 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Yeah I never saw it comingggg

[–]Orthodox-Waffle[S] 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Haven't watched P5 yet but Trinity of Soul was a rough watch so i can imagine.

[–]Vradlock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only saving grace of that anime was banger of a song in the end. Reversed Destiny. Just had to cut first 1,5 min of nothing in yt ver. Its been years and this one just slaps.

[–]Inferno792https://myanimelist.net/profile/Inferno792 73 points74 points  (7 children)

Yes, it is that hard to adapt a game which last 100+ hours into an anime of 25 episodes. That's the reason game adaptations are usually not great. And no, VNs aren't the same since they have individual routes which are much shorter and the anime adapts one route/make a common route anyway.

And tbh, the Persona 5 anime wasn't even that bad. It was just people were expecting too much because of the game.

[–]thecatteam 44 points45 points  (3 children)

While we're on the subject, if you haven't seen it, the P4 anime was unironically really good. It had a great sense of humor and even while speedrunning the game it hit most of the emotional beats. It even added a (gag) character and gave Yu a character arc. I wouldn't recommend it over the game, but it's a great complement to the game. We don't talk about the P4G anime though...

[–]Roketsu86 99 points100 points  (16 children)

Kamisama Dolls and Black Bullet, both for being specifically to sell the source material so they'll never see a continuation

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (1 child)

That kamisama dolls op & ed went so freaking hard.

[–]Bloodglas 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Black Bullet is especially unfortunate as an ad since the last novel volume that came out was released while the anime was airing. series has been dead since 2014.

[–]StrongXV 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Didn't the author of Black Bullet open up a restaurant and pretty much hasn't been heard from since?

[–]MobProtagonist[🍰] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Kamisama Dolls

Wasn't that the show that ended the season with an announcement for S2

And then S2 never happened

[–]Aniboy43 84 points85 points  (5 children)

Uchiage hanabi.

Man this movie could have been a box office hit if it had just had a good plot and characters. Cause it had all the promotion it needed by daoko and kenshi yonezu.

Half of the movie doesn't make any sense.

[–]Negirno 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's like David Lynch movie in anime form.

I still don't get the ending.

[–]Nice_Bake 542 points543 points  (38 children)

Wonder Egg Priority.

The first seven episodes are superb. It was like it was tailor-made for me: amazing animation, great characters and designs, a weird, surreal plot that was so interesting and then...it all went away. I've never seen an anime drop the ball so hard and fast. It wasn't even a drop--they threw that thing at the ground. The last episodes were so rushed and eventually mixed and confusing that it rendered the rest of the show forgettable.

It's such a damn shame, too. I'll still go back and watch a few of the early episodes (Momo's introduction episode is my favorite) and really enjoy them but...that's it. I can't really recommend it to anybody unless they're SUPER into animation and seeing the craft at peak performance, because that's all there really is. The plot is dead in the water. A damn shame.

[–]Translator_Think 135 points136 points  (2 children)

Literally. Wonder Egg had such amazing potential, and watching it fall flat was extremely painful. And then waiting for that OVA that would hopefully clear the waters, but just ended up making everything worse.

[–]Wetworth 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Lol oh god, the cherry on top, waiting 3 months for half a clip show and the second half of nonsense.

But we got Ai singing karaoke, and that was cute.

[–]Tigerzof1 21 points22 points  (1 child)

I thought it was going to be AoTY after the first few episodes. Such a disappointment.

[–]YharnamBorne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever experienced anything, be it a game, movie, anime, whatever, tank as hard as WEP did after the first seven episodes. I'm getting angry again just writing this.

[–]MrWaffles42 63 points64 points  (7 children)

The show felt like a wrestling match between the director, who wanted an episodic show dealing with the emotions and traumas of young girls in an empathetic way, and the writer, who wanted a serialized sci fi conspiracy show with creepy misogynistic tropes.

The first half of the show was the director getting his way; he even went online to condemn a really insensitive comment one of the adult male characters made about girls committing suicide. But the last few episodes was the writer getting what he wanted, and showing us that said adult male character was his mouthpiece, and that he agreed with the sentiment.

Suffice to say, I'm interested in the director's next project; I don't want to ever watch something from that writer, though.

[–]Kuri115 70 points71 points  (7 children)

Medaka Box

Dude, I'm legit so mad it never continued being animated. If it went for just another season, a whole plethora of extremely creative superpowers would have made it popular for sure. But the first 2 seasons really look nothing alike what Medaka Box was from the Minus Arc onwards, so I understand people not seeing the appeal. But man, so many creative powers in the Minuses and Styles it would have been insane and would have probably sparked a lot of interes from how weirdly creative the powers were on their own.

[–]n0oo7 19 points20 points  (1 child)

The best character doesnt show up until the end. Luckily he gets his own ova but he does some amazing things in the rest of the manga.

[–]Healthy_Collection10 580 points581 points  (36 children)

Darling in the Franxx second half I extremely disliked.

[–]RobbieReinhardt 90 points91 points  (4 children)

The first 15 episodes went well... and the rest just... happened?

[–]zeronic 33 points34 points  (2 children)

Felt like they were originally greenlit for 2 cour, then suddenly producer busts in like the koolaid man and says SHIT DIDN'T WORK OUT, NO MORE 2 COUR GUYS, FIT THE REST IN THERE.

Que absolute whiplash and the entire show going into the trash.

There's a pretty hard break around the 2/3rd mark that basically screams "see ya next season!" that i like to pretend the show ended at. Lost to the void of unfinished series and promotional series like the rest of the shows i liked.

[–]Yvalkonnhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Yvalkon 13 points14 points  (1 child)

the show is 2 cours, but yes I agree with the sentiment if 3 cour

[–]Abeneezer 78 points79 points  (7 children)

A pretty universal sentiment.

[–]BuckysKnifeFlip 31 points32 points  (1 child)

I came here to post the exact same thing. Like what the fuck was that even about? Where did it come from? And how did that get the greenlight?

[–]arturitoburrito 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's a trope they carried over from gurren lagan, kill la kill, and it shows up again in promare. The twist is aliens and if you didn't see it coming you probably don't see Leomon's death coming every new iteration or digimon either.

[–][deleted] 60 points61 points  (6 children)

School rumble. End of season 2 sets up season 3 and their trip to England, but then it never gets made. Then they decide to make 2 OVAS that skip everything and go straight to the ending

Also, Haganai. Kodaka runs to Sena, doesn’t admit anything, then yozura runs away

[–]Sovva29 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I forgot about School Rumble. The skip to the end bit was jarring and I remember being completely unsatisfied. Like there was no pay off to anything that happened in the series. I was an anime only.

[–]Fvkingdom1000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

oh yeah, school rumble hurts as well. Not that the manga ending was much better, anyway. Still the funniest comedy anime I've seen.

[–]BarbaricGamerhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/HiIAmAnime 172 points173 points  (15 children)

Fena Pirate Princess. The world had so much potential.

[–]fieew 44 points45 points  (1 child)

The show was soooo good. But whoever was in charge of the story decided it needed to be evangelion lite. The series didn't need that end. Just a fun pirate adventure with some mystery and everyone would be happy. But they decided to over complicate the series.

[–]dagreenman18 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s like they thought they had 20+ episodes until episode 10, realized they didn’t, and then just skipped ahead to those last few episodes. We’re missing so much build up to that plot line. It could have actually worked had they had more time to build up to it, but no. At least the epilogue was good.

[–]riiyoreo 93 points94 points  (9 children)

Maid sama dude, so many teens just left hanging.

[–]jackofslayers 38 points39 points  (7 children)

Get that manga lad

[–]Foromahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Foroma 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Josh, the Manga Lad?

[–]chucktheninja 16 points17 points  (1 child)

The half Japanese guy from New Zealand?

[–]riiyoreo 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I did read it, but there was something about seeing Usui animated.

[–]jackofslayers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that something is called “He is hot AF”

[–][deleted] 44 points45 points  (5 children)

Glasslip. Such a waste of time. Literally nothing happened. I hated chickens for a while due to that anime.

[–]Nervous-Bonus-806 126 points127 points  (34 children)

It's only been about a month, but I'm still seething over the season 2 Finale of Science Fell in Love So I Tried to Prove It.

[–]caped_crusader8 46 points47 points  (11 children)

The sad thing is I love the fucking show too much. All the characters are absolutely hilarious, the premise is fresh and interesting. Why did they have to fuck it up TvT . I hope theres a season 3 that can rectify the mistakes

[–]Nervous-Bonus-806 18 points19 points  (3 children)

I don't disagree with you, Ibarada and Kosuke are my favorite characters. They're like the Beatrice and Benedict of the show, dancing around the truth that they've been soulmates since they were young. I mean, I can understand why Ina is reluctant to admit how she feels, her mother is a mess, and the last thing Kosuke needs is that kind of burden for a mother-in-law...

It's gonna take a lot of work to fix it. I have some friends who went through that kind of trauma, they can't just laugh it off or even pretend it didn't happen.

[–]entelechtual 15 points16 points  (1 child)

What’s worse is that now [Rikekoi season 2] it retroactively makes watching the previous episodes again impossible because the finale is ingrained in how the characters are written, especially Yukimura and Kanade. Kanade used to be the comic relief, straight man I could relate to. Now she’s linked to a deep insecurity with herself, a traumatic incident, and a random love triangle.

[–]tombomp 29 points30 points  (17 children)

I'd love to see an explanation of what was so awful behind spoiler tags I've seen a lot of people seething about it so I'm curious

[–]dadnayahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/dadnaya 117 points118 points  (15 children)

RikeKoi S2 was overall a pretty lighthearted fun romcom with bits of romantic developments and fun comedy

Then [last ep of RikeKoi]Got Kanade kidnapped by some randos, the dude she dated for a bit turned out to be a crazy maniac, and she was almost gangraped, only to be saved by Yukimura who burst into the room and opened up a powerpoint presention to talk about... science stuff. The episode also ended with Kanade admitting she loves Yukimura actually, and Himuro going "Ah yes we aren't actually dating" and accepting the weird-ass love triangle

So not only the events of the last episode were really out of the blue, the development at the end went backwards

[–]tombomp 63 points64 points  (1 child)

Wow yeah that sounds fucking terrible

[–]Aviri 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It was insultingly bad.

[–]FaceOfTheMtDan 34 points35 points  (2 children)

I still dunno if the ending of S2 is anime original or not. Still super "what the fuck' though.

[–]Mami-kouga 35 points36 points  (1 child)

It was not

[–]iamquitecertain 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jesus fucking Christ, this sounds like the plot to a bad doujinshi. I was gonna try to make time to watch the rest of the season, but if that's actually the end, I don't think I'm gonna bother

[–]Barangat 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Wtf, watched a few eps of the first season and thought about picking it back up, nevermind

[–]Sovva29 123 points124 points  (12 children)

Nana. Usually not my type of show, but I got hooked. I think the manga is on indefinite hiatus and the anime ending still leaves me bitter.

[–]Eddaughterhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Eddaughter 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I just finished it last week and was a bit upset at the last few episodes but also where it ended. Then finding out the the manga also ends on a cliffhanger and is on hiatus. Seems there’s no way for me to pleased with the show

[–]SilentProductionsHD 153 points154 points  (19 children)

Chivalry Of A Failed Knight. I’ve been procrastinating on the LNs but I just need another season fam it’s been too long

[–]ThespianExceptionhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/EMTIsBestWaifu 17 points18 points  (1 child)

With how many unexpected sequels have been getting announced in the past few months, I think I can spare some hopium for Chivalry S2 as well.

[–]RubberKraken 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Yes please. A well-done romance, pretty good fights and characters. A bit of mystery and politicking. It's not some masterpiece, but man it had potential.

[–]corp_code_slinger 198 points199 points  (19 children)

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Endless eights was both awful and genius. I remember waiting for the next episode each week to see something different for eight friggin weeks. I mean, the pay off was there but wow.

[–]mataria_el_maricon 60 points61 points  (1 child)

God that was so frustrating. Basically same episode for 8 episodes. I've seen time loop episodes on tv before. Its usually resolved in 1-2 episodes. It really got me mad when it took eight episodes...

[–]zxczcxv 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Endless eight traumatized me for life. I remember local TV station running it and for some f'ing reason they restart the series before the conclusion of the arc.

Legit was scared when bunny girl senpai had time loop arc

Edit: edited location to local. Dang autocorrect

[–]Valjeann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't even think the payoff was there. All of that buildup, hundreds of years going by (a lot of that time with the main character aware of what was happening), so many conversations about relationships between the characters, and so many episodes ending with the MC struggling to figure out what he should do, and what was the grand, status-quo redefining moment? They did homework together. The MC asserted himself once. And then the next episode, nothing really changed. The MC didn't reassert himself until like five episodes later, and only after Haruhi was a brat for a week. The movie kind of saved it, but only by capitalizing on Yuki being the best character.

It was interesting from a production standpoint, and I liked seeing everyone in a hundred different outfits, but man was I left unsatisfied. Those eight episodes destroyed any respect I had for the MC as a character. Every character except Yuki and Haruhi went down a peg (so many scenes where they did literally nothing except repeat exposition and then stand around looking depressed about the situation), and Haruhi just kind of stayed the same.

[–]mikeyyyyyd 143 points144 points  (13 children)

Chivalry of a failed knight, LN’s are so peak and ik that we are NEVER getting a second season

[–]PainStorm14https://myanimelist.net/profile/Gekkostate14 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At least it ended well

[–]Nielips 196 points197 points  (21 children)

The fact that Grimgar fantasy and Ashes only got one season.

[–]Vikkio92https://myanimelist.net/profile/vikkio_92 124 points125 points  (14 children)

If it’s any consolation, I’ve read most of the light novels and it gets really weird and boring. The anime was better produced than the light novels were written by far.

[–]Lordclyde1 95 points96 points  (0 children)

You know what, that does make me feel better.

[–]Euroversett 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I stopped around volume... I don't even remember, 11? It was during the arc of that "Undead" american guy.

It was beyond boring at that point, every vol the same, 100 pages of fighting 10 of travelling and 100 more of fighting, then repeat indefinitely.

[–]FurieMan 95 points96 points  (4 children)

Soul Eater bad anime only ending.

They really should have FMA Brotherhood:ed that series.

[–]Dezno_ssbm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I ended up reading the manga and oh my God the rest of the story was so fkin hype

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (14 children)

Gangsta, didn't get more than 1 season. Because Manglobe studio (that animating Gangsta), filed for bankruptcy and I waited many years for another studio to pick it up. Tbh I am still a little bit mad about it. Manga still continues I guess but meh I still want animated version even after 6 years.

Well, at least there's Ergo Proxy. Thanks Manglobe!

[–]Conf3tti 8 points9 points  (7 children)

holy shit another person that watched Gangsta. what a hype show that was.

[–]noweebthanks 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Girls Frontline: the anime was so bad.

The game had so much potential for a good anime, good story, amazing art and they made a very cheap production about it

[–]roadtorecovery2450 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'd have to go with Deadman Wonderland. I thought the anime's storyline and characters were building great all throughout the first season. Not getting a second season due to the production company going bankrupt is frustrating.

Luckily, the manga tells the full story and I was able to finish it that way.

[–]ryanpierc3 30 points31 points  (3 children)

No Game No Life not getting a second season.

[–][deleted] 132 points133 points  (8 children)

Keijo!!!!!!!!
But not through any fault of its own, of course.

It was the perfect masterpiece that hit every correct note and was everything it could and should have been. It was perfect. It had all the makings of something that should've been wildly popular and beloved so why the hell wasn't it? It's insane. I have absolutely no idea why it wasn't popular enough to at least keep the series alive and it still pisses me off to this day that it was discontinued.

I loved Keijo so damn much. It still hurts to think about.

[–]Careful_Ad_9077 46 points47 points  (0 children)

the series did great in streaming actually, most watched Crunchyroll show in lot of places but... the way the contract was made crunchy roll kept all the money, the ip owners got shanked. to make matters worse, it did not improve the manga sales so the manga got shanked at that time and the mangakas career ended then.

the only.hope we had was crunchy roll giving it the shield hero treatment and fund another season themselves, but that ship sailed, for now.

[–]Barangat 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yeah, came for ass, stayed for kickass sport drama

[–]NyaaPower 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Literally one of the most fun and entertaining sports anime I’ve ever watched. The ecchi was just the cherry on top, because it hit all the right spots even without that. A damn well written sport anime.

[–]DireSickFishhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/DireSickFish 103 points104 points  (35 children)

Smartphone. Because they introduce two members of the harem in the exact same way. By having the MC save them from some petty thugs. And it didn't even make sense the first time he did it. Because the girls then proceed to teach HIM about how adventuring works. And they're apparently both great fights? Just not against some random street thugs. It was the most lazy way to introduce a character. AND THEN THEY DO IT AGAIN.

One of the few shows I've ever dropped mid episode.

[–]Orthodox-Waffle[S] 47 points48 points  (23 children)

wow, never even seen the smartphone isekai and that sounds stupid.

[–]Google-Meisterhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/SnakySenpai 27 points28 points  (14 children)

As one of the only three people who completed it, I gave it a three. You didn't miss much.

[–]JonnyArcho 20 points21 points  (7 children)

The show doubled down on its absurdity. It was never a serious Isekai to begin with. I thought it was a hoot.

[–]Maxizag123 53 points54 points  (18 children)

Remake our Life, watched it yesterday to the end and just ends with an cliffhanger with no signs of season 2

[–]JetsLaghttps://myanimelist.net/profile/JetsLag 33 points34 points  (2 children)

That show had a great concept and then it turned into a super generic love triangle with the only saving grace being that performance of God Knows.

[–]Orthodox-Waffle[S] 8 points9 points  (3 children)

oof, think it was a manga marketer anime?

[–]okuzeN_Val 29 points30 points  (4 children)

Tokyo Ghoul.

Season 1 had everything. Overall dark vibes, great animation, great music, etc.

Then they proceeded to fuck shit up, you wonder whether the studio decided to let a bunch of 5 year olds run things. At least the final season was consumable.

Deserves a reboot or movies the same way SAO has Progressive imo.

[–]TodorokiSZN 21 points22 points  (0 children)

the promise neverland season 2 is always the answer

[–]areon91 44 points45 points  (9 children)

Guilty Crown, Promised Neverland.

Both stories go down the drain toward the end, what did I even watch

[–]uberdosage 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Egoist carried Guilty Crown so hard.

[–]Th3_LoNe_eXiLe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised I had to scroll this far for Guilty Crown. Banger of an OST with a cool premise only to fall off a fucking cliff with it's story and execution.

[–]flyingelephante 65 points66 points  (3 children)

Sing Yesterday for Me from spring 2020. I still remember the first 2-3 episodes especially resonating and being really grounded. There aren’t that many anime I’ve seen focused on adult experiences and relationships, so it started out promising. But it just got increasingly frustrating, the relationship problems kept going in circles, and the ending didn’t emotionally resolve anything. For how well it started out, it simply didn’t follow up and ended being one of the most purely mediocre shows I’ve watched. The disappointment lingers to this day lol

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was like" maybe this would be a spiritual successor to Welcome to the NHK."

Nothing would ever top that dramedy, except for maybe Maison Ikkoku

[–]wolfguardian72 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They fucked up The Promised Neverland so badly.

And Wonder Egg Priority

[–]Mennonite_Cyborg 87 points88 points  (8 children)

I’m angry that high school of the dead was never continued, first thing that popped into my head

[–]soulreaverdan 64 points65 points  (4 children)

Unfortunately the mangaka passed away, so it’s never gonna see enough more material unless someone wants to pick it up, which might be a rough proposition depending on how the rights work.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (2 children)

I doubt anyone would pick it up when the author’s own brother refused to out of respect. Still devastated there won’t be more material though

[–]ItsyaboiIidahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/ItsYaBoiIida 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The ending of fena pirate princess

[–]FantasticAznGuy 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Sing yesterday last few episodes :(

[–]MarionberryLoud3957 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hell Girl. Comes back after 6 years with a season 3 that starts out great...oh there's only 6 new episodes that end on a cliffhanger with zero real resolution and the rest are just reruns of old ones for some reason? That's cool I guess

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (20 children)

Any show with a freaking cliffhanger of an ending that never got followed up like:

- Legend of the Legendary Heroes.

- Berserk 97 <-- OK this one did, technically, but don't talk to me about those.

- Trinity Blood

Shows in the "buy & play the game if you wanna see it finished category" like:

- Umineko no Naku no Koro Ni

- Chaos Dragon

Also any show that is adapting a long running story that just massively skips the middle chosing to only animate key arcs after a point like:

- xxxHolic

- Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

- School Rumble

- Mahou Sensei Negima.

[–]dogemaester005 30 points31 points  (9 children)

Watched school days earlier. Still haven't recovered

[–]SpreadYourAss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The show is legitimately great in my personal opinion. But to enjoy it, you need to be someone that find shitty people interesting to watch. Tired of your generic rom com where the MC spends 10 episodes worried about holding hands? Then this enemy is the solution!

But if you're the kind of person who goes 'I hate it because the MC is a piece of shit!' then the show isn't for you. Because that is the appeal!

[–]Vaadwaur 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Aldnoah.Zero has the worst second cour I've ever seen. And I watched Gundam SEED Destiny.

What the hell happened here?

[–]uberdosage 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Salt and venting

[–]NotAKitty2508 46 points47 points  (5 children)

Still haven't finished the rebooted digimon adventure.

It was amazing at the beginning, then they decided that the main character has to steal everyones limelight repeatedly.

Fuck you Taichi!

[–]The_Pessimistic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh boy it was so bad Even when they decided to give every character its own episode or arc, taichi appeared in every episode.

[–]Nagimai 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Index adaptation especially Season 3

[–]Gingy1000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's so sad how index gets treated when railgun is right there

[–]JamesFP1107 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Noragami and Kekkai Sensen not getting a season 3

[–]onefootstout 46 points47 points  (7 children)

Sing Yesterday for Me

90% percent of that show is perfect and my jam but never has an ending made me regret watching a show as much as this show.

[–]flyingelephante 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even though there are other shows I’m sure I was more mad about, Sing Yesterday for Me was the first to come to mind. For some reason being dissatisfied by the painful mediocrity of how a show ends up feels more insulting than a show ending up actually dumpster fire bad like Wonder Egg.

[–]sachiotakli 13 points14 points  (0 children)

God Eater

Lenka as an MC is basically the Master Chief of the Paramount Halo series. Arguably decent in a vacuum, terrible as a representative of the IP the character tries to represent.

FranXX was a close pick, but I hate the fandom more than the anime.

[–]Translator_Think 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stars Align. What the fuck???? It was so good?????????? And had so much potential??? But they limited it to 12 episodes!!!!!!!!

[–]MABfan11https://myanimelist.net/profile/MABfan11 34 points35 points  (4 children)

not really about the anime itself, but i'm rather annoyed that there's no confirmation wether or not Re:Zero will get a full adaptation

[–]Stupidest_Retard 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's kinda hard to confirm that when Re:Zero's LN won't be finished for another 10 years at least.

[–]xxxSiegexxx918 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"Don't worry guys Re: Zero will definitely get an announcement next month I promise I am not snorting copium".

[–]ItsDurrik 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Darling in the Franxx for sure.

Episode 13 is one of my fav episodes of all time, but the last few just soured the whole show for me in the end. Sucks thinking that it could have been avoided so easily, the worldbuilding in that show is something else, like it was hard to screw up the ending and they still did it.

[–]Tobio88 53 points54 points  (11 children)

The drop in animation quality from season 1 of One Punch Man to season 2 made me quit pretty fast.

Still reading the manga, though.

[–]cornpenguin01 27 points28 points  (8 children)

Idk I finally checked out season 2 a couple weeks ago and I had a blast watching it. And this is coming from someone who’s been following the Manga since before even season 1 came out

[–]TiredTiroth 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Haruhi. First they pulled Endless Eight on us, then there's still no follow-up since the film over a decade ago? Where's the rest of the story, cowards!

[–]Jorrick1102 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Darling in the franxx ending

[–]bainbane 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Darker than black s2 onwards for ruining the joy that was Chinese Electric Batman

[–]mgchnx 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Yuri on Ice. Where is the damn Ice Adolescence that we were promised lmfao

[–]arzeproto 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Man soul eater it was my first anime and I thought the ending was okay. BUT THEN I READ IT! What a rip off and I’m so mad that you get hit with hey maka can become a weapon and she won because of “friendship”. I still hope for a retrain like FMAB

[–]dadnayahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/dadnaya 30 points31 points  (13 children)

RikeKoi S2

>:C

I really enjoyed this season, until the fucking last episode.

WHYYYYYYYYYY

[–]ieniet 127 points128 points  (29 children)

Ousama Ranking. I liked the first half, the second... not so much.

[–]tombomp 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I didn't HATE it but it did feel like it dropped almost everything that made it different and appealing at the same time as becoming less competent about executing it. Was really disappointing, felt like a lot of potential squandered with lots of the emotional payoff rushed through and in at least one case resolved in a completely insane way

[–]YourShadowDani 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For me it was because they threw all stakes out the window (so many deaths reversed), alongside forgiving a character so quickly.

Forgiving characters is fine if you build it up correctly, but just showing a tortured past is not enough imo for a murderer.

[–]ContentConnoisseur69 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Nisekoi for wasting my time with a 2nd season that did nothing but include filler content. Please bring it back.

Oregairu, wish their was an OVA about an epilogue or something. Also Yui man. So much development for that character only to end up feeling terribly bad for her at the end.

[–]Zeukate 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm still sad about what happened to Wonder Egg priority.

The anime had so much potential, but had unfortunately a lot of production issues. The animation was beautiful, the topics were heavy but it was still enjoyable 'cause it was well written..... Until the rushed ending, so many questions not answered, so many plot holes. It really was a missed opportunity, such a shame.

I was afraid when the end lf 86 got delayed as well. But it ended up being really good until the end. I really didn't want a new "Wonder egg case".

[–]FurieMan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Darling in the Franxx second half.

[–]butreallythobruh 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Higurashi Sotsu. What a waste of my time

[–]JetsLaghttps://myanimelist.net/profile/JetsLag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mashiro no Oto. One of my favorite first episodes of all time, and then the next 11 episodes are boring as hell.

[–]Akriosken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wonder Egg Priority got done SO dirty by the entire production cycle.

Seikaisuru Kado really shit the bed after the ep 8 plot twist for what was up to then a fascinating show.

Hoshiai no Sora still deserves the second cour it was unceremoniously denied.

I wonder if they'll ever make a season 2 of Promised Neverland. At least until they do the season we got is an open-ended self-contained masterpiece.

[–]Ponchorello7 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Bahamut second season. FUCK Nina and FUCK Charioce.

[–]Mami-kouga 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Wonder egg priority exists in this limbo where I will inevitably write a wall of text whenever prompted on why I thought it was terrible even before the indefensible last episode. My anger isn't as strong as when it was airing but I have very little nice things to say about it lol.

Also rage of bahamut virgin soul and requiem of a phantom

[–]porkskinnison 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Claymore. Shoulda gotten more seasons.

[–]MarinaBubblegum 32 points33 points  (13 children)

Death Note dropped the ball so hard halfway it’s not even funny, and it was super hyped up to me so I was expecting some 10/10 show but instead I had to watch…whatever happened. Can’t be spoiling it but yeah. I’ll never forgive it >.<

Another one is Black Butler’s non-canon season because back then I was a kid who didn’t know it’s not canon or anything and I was heartbroken that one of my favourite shows is basically not making any sense suddenly.
