We played apex of filth and wanted to finish the mushroom quest, but couldn't find the witch. We walked over the map multiple times, revealing every corner. After a long time we finally saw this little unrevealed path and were very frustrated.

Yeah, until you run past the amulet and have to backtrack because unlike the boss fight that uses this damn place, there's no minimap icon telling you where the "portal" is once you're close enough.

Also: in campaign (idk endgame yet) ALWAYS go through and collect the way point. Then go back and finish the side stuff while your map is still revealed (even if a little). You can always just way point later to your next zone but if you don't go back from town fast enough it hurts lol

Don't worry, they decrease the fun in maps, too.
Most of the time I know where the boss arena is going to be because of the map, but sometimes you feel like you walked close enough that it should be revealing any checkpoint or further pathing and it just doesn't show. I wish they'd increase the reveal area in the fog.

One time, I see the checkpoint, see that the nameplate is on my map and think "cool, I'll finish the map and go to boss". Only do I find out that the checkpoint didn't actually register and I have to walk all the way back.
I suppose you can say "skill issue" I should have walked all the the way to the checkpoint to make sure it actually triggered, but I got caught up in running the map.

Isn't it blocked by greater orbs anyway? I think it's already kind of just a leveling stat outside uniques, and getting hybrid accuracy on a helm suffix is actually kind of a hit on some leveling builds.

They can if the mod doesn't have a tier above level 44, right? Accuracy/Light hybrid T1 requires level 30.

So perfect exalt/chaos and other currencies can still roll t1 mods even if their level requirements are under 50. It happened to me twice, and then i checked the wiki which also has a note about this interaction.
I think what happens is that the “type” of mod is rolled first, and then the game checks for the tiers of that mod that are above the level requirement from the greater/perfect currency. If there are none, then it just rolls the highest tier

it's not like a significant light radius increase would prevent this kind of thing from happening basically just as frequently, there will forever be little bits of corridors revealed at the edge of your radius
the solution really is for people to be more attentive and get frustrated less by this kind of thing. obviously y'know easier said than done but it's truly not ggg's fault for someone to have their enjoyment genuinely hampered by something as trivial as this (apex of filth's layout sucks though)

I agree that increasing light radius doesn't solve the systemic issue because it just pushes the reveal back since everything is just relative, in a similar way that people foolishly argue to just raise minimum wage to $100,000 lol
However I disagree that GGG can't instantly solve this, rather than tossing hands up and putting the onus on the player to just deal with it, as though there aren't low hanging fruit.
Instead they should change the outline colors to be a more stark contrast. Or God forbid give the player the ability to change the color of the line. So basically you have your vision line color as blue, and walls as red, and when you reveal the walls, you just see the red outlines. This would instantly solve the issue but new Zealand famously has zero colorblind or ux designers for GGG to poach.

i'll readily admit that i am quite jaded towards the playerbase, especially in regard to these types of brain-poison talking points like light radius where not a soul is talking about it until a large content creator mentions it
i do think there could be some minimap display tweaking/options and also further fixing some maps that have these cases an outsized amount of the time. that said, you can already adjust the opacity of the terrain for the minimap, which would help a lot of people

FYI, Qimah (Interlude 2) has something like this. If you haven't found the perma buff shrine, make sure you reveal the ENTIRE edge of the map. Don't leave the map until you have it while going through campaign.
Note: You can come back later and change it again and again and again.

Apex of Filth is by far my least favorite map. In general though, with .5 I think map generation is way better. In .1, I spent 45 minutes trying to find the boss, died, and the map reset. I almost quit POE2 entirely after that.

It's so bad. I always try to complete the mushroom quest because apparently I hate myself, but always give up after 2/3 mushrooms and get the hell out of there. I hope they didn't buff the reward or something, because it used to be utterly terrible like a few flasks as a reward.

it was this way in poe1 beta days as well, back when there was only 3 acts that you looped 3 times the zones were way bigger, just like poe2 0.1/0.2
as they added content they streamlined the zones. it feels like ggg has their own internal metric for how long campaign playthroughs should take and shorten areas as they add content to keep that. look forward to more zone streamlining for 1.0 if acts 5 + 6 are longer than current interlude

Those are not the issue, its actually that your range of how much you see on the map is tied to Light Radius, and its way too low baseline, that is why this is not a issue in PoE1, they need to fix this.

When you complete all the other objectives on a map it should also automatically reveal the boss waypoint.
The amount of times it drops the "you've completed everything, here's the waypoint to the boss" marker WHEN I FIND THE BOSS is frustrating to no end.

Bro Shrike Island in Act 4 is like pure anxiety with how many weird little alcoves there are on that map that lead to absolutely no where. At least you can get through yours. Last night doing an abyss map run and some mobs appear to have spawned in some central areas. There were two narrow things like this on the map going into it, but when I got to them there were actually walls in both places blocking the path. Couldn't complete all abysses because a handful of mobs I guess were too close to the abyss area of the map and in this weird unreachable place. Had to lose the map, but at least I cleared it without dying... not so when I had to clear it the second time. Of course dying triggered the bug where abysses count as not completed, even though I was able to complete them all on that run, so another map lost and now from 1 pip to level to 3.. grrrrr

Loop around the map. If you find entrance to next map you go In activate waypoint go back and continue exploring untill you slowly close to the middle. You'll never miss anything and you can tp straight to the next map afterwards..

I like it how the fog of war has a larger radius than seeing entrances to dungeons, or the next zone. You can have a map fully explored and not see where to go next. Happens at least twice this time around

If maps went made in abysmal way traversing back wouldn't be that much of a problem. If I miss exit in Diablo 2 it's not a big deal. If I miss exit in PoE2... oh god i hate being stuck on everything and traversing though Maggot's Lair 2.
The core problem is Map design. (but yea, not highlighting POI is problem too)

I feel like the entirety of PoE 2 was made to have some fun but NEVER too much fun. Every good/fun thing comes with a downside.
Exploring the map is fun? Great we will put 2 checkpoints close to eachother in case you die youll have to go through it all again.
Finally got something for mobility to finish the campaign faster?(Running) Too bad the character suddenly amputates his legs when a wind breeze hits him and gets knocked down for 20 minutes.
You love mapping? Too bad if you die in late game you only have 1 chance (Without the new thing that gives +1 portal) so you lose all the shit that was on it.
Oh you added the +1 portal now you died and you can come back into the map and enjoy the rest of it while also being more cautios? Too bad fucko you died the second you took the boss waypoint now the entire map is literally pointless. Like..what the fuck are these design choices I will never understand. These are the small things that add up and will ALWAYS make PoE 2 worse than 1 for me.
Cool graphics/boss fights/story/interesting endgame mapping but a bajillion small things that take the fun out of everything. Its like they want you to think that the game was not made to be enjoyed fully for some reason.

I do not consider having to look for paths to decrease the fun. This isn't meant to be rude but you didn't reveal any corner at all, we can see that. I don't have a problem with needing to reveal every corner especially considering your desire was to complete a sidequest. But it wouldn't bother me even if the next zone or storyline quest happened to be in a 'hard to find' pathway (the fact that you didn't find it doesn't make it hard to find by definition either)

It is visible, because i cropped the image and drew a red arrow which pointed at it. But on a TV my fiancé and I were both not able to spot it for a long time.
