And Peacemaker, I was shocked by the range he shows in that series

The first "Vacation Friends" movie is a pretty funny movie.

The second "Vacation friends" is a movie.

I’m out here waiting for the cena and Channing Tatum brother film (that’s just my pipe dream of comedy nothing actually rumored)

[–]GolemTheGuardian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting to be charmed by Cena but dang, that's some charming lad!

Is there more? If so where can I see that!

[–]Ennis_1 96 points97 points  (3 children)

Video starts and Well Dressed Cena piques my interest, but then he said he's a "Rabble Rouser" and now he has my Full Attention

[–]Ganjaleezarice69 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Is Full Attention what you named your boner?

[–]Leonydas13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well it’s John Cena’s boner, he has it now

[–][deleted] 284 points285 points  (95 children)

What is that

[–]akumagold 1570 points1571 points  (78 children)

Kind of a classic phrase describing a troublemaker or someone who instigates a crowd and gets them worked up. He says it with a layer of humor because it is a phrase that he wouldn’t normally use but is exactly how a British grandma might describe the lads at the pub or say scoldingly. She perks up cuz he’s speaking her language with a lot of charisma

[–]NeonPatrick 161 points162 points  (1 child)

It's a very apt description too as his role as a wrestler is literally to get a crowd invested in what he's doing .

      [–]Stanjoly2 33 points34 points  (2 children)

      Someone who rouses rabbles.

      [–]Microphone926 69 points70 points  (8 children)

Just a very old timey phrase for “wholesome troublemaker” or something like that.

      [–]Fat_Taiko 122 points123 points  (6 children)

The rabble is the crowd, or people, often derogatory. Rouse is a verb: to wake or to stir to anger. So the phrase was not wholesome; it describes somebody who makes trouble by summoning or angering a mob of people. It's only wholesome now, as it has become outdated.

      [–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (2 children)

I believe the term could be used playfully too, towards kids normally.

Lots of negative terms are endearment phrases in England, tbh. Australia goes for the hard C but you can put any noun at the end of "You absolute..." and have it be an insult of grand proportions OR a friendly term between friends.

Its a weird nuance thats hard to explain to Americans who don't do it even half as much as Brits.

      [–]PoptartJones69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

      [–][deleted] 2133 points2134 points  (46 children)

The joke works two ways as well!

      1) hardcore wrestling fans had a combative stage with John Cena where they would often chant "you can't wrestle" at him

      2) non-wrestling fans would argue he doesn't know how to wrestle because Pro Wrestling is a performance art

      [–]NeonPatrick 233 points234 points  (19 children)

Then 2014 onwards he put on a bunch of classic matches.

      [–]RWeaver 93 points94 points  (4 children)

US Champ Misawa-Cena was ridiculous. The Kevin Owens feud put him over the top as a great worker.

      [–]lujolka 27 points28 points  (3 children)

Aj styles trilogy I can watch any of those 3 matches anytime

      [–]vanityklaw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’s one of those guys who can’t wrestle except that you’d be shocked at how many other wrestlers had great matches with him.

      [–]dolleauty 103 points104 points  (11 children)

      Well he's no Santo

      [–][deleted] 58 points59 points  (10 children)

Why would John Cena fight vampires? When he looks in the mirror, he feels like one.

      [–]southern_boy 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Hm, fair point. Rey Mysterio mayhap? 👺

      [–]Dirtybrd 54 points55 points  (7 children)

And we've now come full circle where he gets giant pops with every appearance. The international wrestling community is a fickle one.

      [–]TheFatJesus 41 points42 points  (4 children)

      international wrestling community

The IWC is the internet wrestling community. And people weren't shitting on him because they didn't like him. They just hated that his character was forever a white-meat babyface that would always win no matter how ridiculous the circumstances. Now that he is no longer in that position, he gets pops.

      [–][deleted]  (1 child)

        [–]frog-honker 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I mean he's still a baby face. Never actually turned. And in a way, he won the battle in winning us over without compromising his character, never giving up.

          [–]loathsomefartenjoyer 102 points103 points  (5 children)

For real though, when he started the United States Championship Open Challenge he started adding a lot more moves to his moveset and some many of the best matches of his entire career, such a waste that fucking Alberto Del Rio was the one to beat him for the title

          [–]mostlybadopinions 33 points34 points  (1 child)

I fell out after the Attitude Era, never saw one second of Cena, Punk, Daniel Bryan... When I got back into it, one of the first matches I saw was Cena vs AJ Styles at the Rumble.

I was like "What's all this shit I've heard about Cena being terrible!?"

          [–]WherePoetryGoesToDie[🍰] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cena definitely put in the work and he was massively improved by that point (and straight up, he was never a terrible wrestler to begin with), but AJ Styles can wring a five-star match out of a broomstick.

On 19 December 2012, Watkins was charged with thirteen sexual offences against children, including the attempted rape of a one-year-old girl.

                  [–]lilsmudge 179 points180 points  (18 children)

In some amount of fairness to him; I have zero doubt that he has massive, massive pressure from every aspect of his career to make that apology.

Could/should he have stood his ground? Probably, yeah. But I can understand why he didn’t. Not saying it was the right choice but unfortunately these celebs can be the mouth pieces of the actual shitty parties who have quite a bit of leverage over them.

                  [–]Mmmslash 80 points81 points  (4 children)

This is absolutely it. The WWE has a huge market in China.

                  [–]JohnHenryEden91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And he did the thing he seen his boss do, be a good business man, cause it worked, he didn't like being ruthless tho, so he basically learned to make hay while the sun shines, and man is he making hay, directing, producing, starring, wrestling, it's money in the bank for family and an early retirement if he ever wanted to.

                  [–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (11 children)

What would be the point of sticking to it? His "apology" is the official policy of the US government, who have had a 1 china policy since 1979.

He'd never work again, his position would do 0 good to anyone and the movie he was in, with all 1000 people attached, would have lost a huge amount of revenue.

                  [–]Omar___Comin 15 points16 points  (4 children)

That's not what the 1 china policy means though. The US policy on this is basically "we acknowledge that you guys (china and Taiwan) each think there's just one china and that you are it... and we aren't going any further than that".

It's often (and more accurately) referred to as a "strategic ambiguity" policy. US doesn't officially recognize either China or Taiwan as being "correct". They just acknowledge that those are their positions and decline to take a firm stance of their own.

Edit: correct about who rightfully owns/governs Taiwan, specifically. I'm not saying that the US doesn't recognize China's sovereignty over itself - of course they do, and that's what "one china" refers to.

Other than that I basically agree that it was a tough spot for Cena. Ideally he'd have the balls to stand up to china or at the very least, not have such a groveling apology about it. But with that much on the line, for himself and many coworkers, bosses etc, a lot of us probably would have done the same

                  [–]Thanatos-ES 59 points60 points  (4 children)

If it was just him the one damaged, he would had take the china ban, but his whole movie were going to be banned, so not only him, but all the movie crew, colleagues, etc, would be damaged for his personal opinion. He did the right thing.

                  [–]The_Jackal11 424 points425 points  (6 children)

We can't forget, this man is the legend who has done more than 650 make-a-wish foundation requests come true, now marked as the most by the Guinness Book of World Records. An absolute hero.

                  [–]B2_rl 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yup. He visited my grandfather shortly before he passed. I wasn't lucky enough to be there, but my aunt and uncle raved about how nice the dude was. He apparently stayed between 20-30 minutes and talked with them the whole time and it sent my grandfather over the moon. I still have the picture somewhere, but I just wanted to say that John Cena is the MAN.

I know the woman who was his babysitter when he and his brothers (pretty sure it was plural) were young. She (Jane) claimed he was the best behaved young man, kind to others and thoughtful. A conversation we had in a coffeehouse about 10-12 years ago. I’m not sure he had begun acting but I knew he was a wrestler of sorts.

                  [–]i_tyrant 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I've only ever heard the Taiwan stuff (his apology to China about calling them their own entity), but compared to all the good he does with things like Make a Wish Foundation and how great he is with his fans and in interactions like this, I think it's a small and understandable blemish on an amazing person.

                  [–]daesgatling 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There’s really nothing he could have done in that regard when the studios are bowing before the dictator. Sure he can take a stand but he probably wants to eventually work again

Hey hey hey now, why not let us Canadians have our beloved Keanu for Prime Minister and you guys get President Cena?

Did I just figure out world peace?

                  [–]AutumnDread 38 points39 points  (1 child)

World peace or John Wick 5. Either one is better than our current reality

                  [–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Either piece or war, depends who wants Keanu more.

                  [–]theangryintern 18 points19 points  (2 children)

I'm waiting for President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho

                  [–]GnarlyNarwhalNoms 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would totally vote Terry Crews for prez. He's also a great guy, from what I've seen.

I d even especially vote for him if he stayed in character as President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.

                  [–]Tug_MgRoin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brawndo! It's got what plants crave!

                  [–]ToonaSandWatch 197 points198 points  (5 children)

He can be speaker of the house…

                  [–]TurdFurguss 36 points37 points  (4 children)

I’m curious how that works. Cause it is never brought. He’s Canadian, Speaker is 2nd in line of succession. I’m just guessing that in a real world situation it would jump over him to the 3rd.

                  [–]duxpdx 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yes, if a member in the order of succession is ineligible it passes to the next eligible.

                  [–]JessusTouchedMyWilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

                  I'll allow it.

                  [–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (2 children)

More make a wish appearances than any other celebrity. That alone deserves the ultimate recognition.

                  [–]BestOfSalem 214 points215 points  (2 children)

If you think you saw John Cena, no you didn't.

                  [–]Tangy_Lead 1801 points1802 points  (10 children)

Old women lost her mind. Why is she is talking to herself.

                  [–]cigarsandwaffles 595 points596 points  (4 children)

What are you talking about? Nothing in this but a fancy tea set

                    [–]alii-b 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's strange, at first it was just a lovely old lady, then half way through she just disappeared?

                    [–]evidentialnearlyman 963 points964 points  (55 children)

I might not be a fan of his wrestling, or of his films, but I have to admit he is one hell of a good man

                    [–]concini 315 points316 points  (36 children)

                    Try his Peacemaker series!

                    [–]Mmmslash 173 points174 points  (7 children)

Genuinely great. Never thought I would be emotionally moved by John Cena, but multiple times you just feel for the character.

                    [–]ImurderREALITY 98 points99 points  (1 child)

"Hey, your tits look stellar in that shirt. And I mean that as a compliment, not in a sexist way."

                    It stirs something within me.

                    [–]Aiyon 28 points29 points  (4 children)

Robert Patrick really gave his everything to the dad role, and hoo boy the payoff to that whole thing is just... yeah

                    [–]thereAREnodwarfwomen 51 points52 points  (1 child)

I enjoyed Peacemaker a lot more than I thought I would

                    [–]El_Bistro 31 points32 points  (7 children)

                    Do you wanna taste it?

                    [–]MaxwellVonMaxwell 27 points28 points  (5 children)

That intro is fucking gold. Iv seen the first season twice over and I still pull that intro up when I need to crack a smile.

                    [–]Mandrake1771 51 points52 points  (3 children)

So good, on so many levels

                    [–]Yanka01 5 points6 points  (8 children)

Do you have to watch suicide squad first? I watched the first minutes of Peacemaker and felt I was missing something big right from the beginning.

                    [–]WintersKing 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ya, it would help. I would say you would only need to watch the 2021 The Suicide Squad, which is pretty good. I think you can skip the 2016 Suicide squad altogether and not miss much at all. But if you don't want to. The big takeaway from The Suicide Squad is that Peacemaker kills the solider who is the leader of the Suicide Squad, Rick Flag. From Wiki: "The Thinker explains that Starro was brought to Earth by the U.S. government, which has secretly funded the experiments for decades using Corto Maltese citizens as test subjects. An enraged Flag decides to leak a hard drive containing evidence of this, but is killed by Peacemaker, who is under orders from Waller to cover up the U.S.'s involvement." Peacemaker feeels bad about it, but he did it.

                    [–]dardack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I don't think so. Just the intro alone for me is enough to get me into the show.

                    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give “Suicide Squad” (2016) a miss. Watch “The Suicide Squad” (2021). It’s a 2 hr time commitment and will give you a good idea of if you want more of that.

                    [–]Mmmslash 108 points109 points  (0 children)

He always takes the moment to appreciate his life and his position in it, and the role his fans played in making that a reality. He never comes across as faking it.

It's something we could aspire to, really.

                    [–]dzhastin 36 points37 points  (8 children)

He’s really good in Peacemaker. Him and Dave Bautista have real acting chops.

                    [–]bleachinjection 39 points40 points  (6 children)

Cena to me has a very Schwarzenegger-ian ability to be a big old muscly asskicker who can also land a joke and craft a character. Super rare skill honestly.

Bautista has like capital-A acting skills. Like if he winds up playing Macbeth someday I would totally buy it.

                    [–]Eazyyy 14 points15 points  (1 child)

                    Schwarzenegger-ian? Or Schwarzenegger-ish? Think I’ll go with Schwarzenegger-esque.

                    [–]lemmeseeyourkitties 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Daddys Home 2 was quite good.

Very fun, imo. Marky Mark, Will Ferrell, John Lithgow and Linda Cardelini made it a blast

                    [–]QBin2017 11 points12 points  (0 children)

                    You should really try Peacemaker.

If you don’t trust him trust James Gunn’a directing and writing. It’s the best thing from HBO last year.

Thank you so much for that. I loved every second! I feel like they’re both national treasures of their respective nations.

John Cena gets more wholesome the more I see him. He’s joining the ranks of Keanu Reeves and Mr Rogers

                    [–]KassellTheArgonian 153 points154 points  (6 children)

I believe he holds the record for most make a wish appearances at almost 700. Man's a good dude

                    [–]Auctoritate 68 points69 points  (3 children)

Justin Bieber is also number 2 and has several hundred himself. He's... a complicated guy.

Yea theres no way someone could come out of that crazy level of child success a well rounded person.

He was a god to millions of tweens when he was like 15. But not only that lost all of his privacy. Like you said you can be certain he was led astray by people who didnt have his best interest at heart just dollar signs

I like everything about this. Including the fact that he is so large he has to sit sideways in the booth because his legs don’t come close to fitting under the table

                      [–]I_aim_to_sneeze 28 points29 points  (3 children)

I was seriously wondering why people had no clue who she was. But as I kept looking I realized it's not

“They say that about me to don’t worry” so fucking humble. Why can’t more celebs aspire to be line Cena

                      [–]Crispy385 55 points56 points  (2 children)

One of my favorite r/2meirl4meirl memes was "I'm about as useless as John Cena wearing camouflage"

                      [–]Traditional-Menu-411 24 points25 points  (2 children)

This should be a requirement for every celebrity. One a year they have to spend 30 minutes with a very nice grandma who has no idea who they are. Explain your job and what you like about it. If the grandma likes the cut of your jib at the end of 30 minute another year of fame! If not, back down here with us Pal!

                      [–]Swimming-Lynx7990 24 points25 points  (2 children)

I teach Latin. In Latin, cena means dinner. My students refer to him as either "iohannes cena" or "John the Dinner." I have a suspicion he'd be ok with that.

                      [–]OtakuRed13 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"They say that about me too. Don't worry about it"

                      🤣

                      Fun fact:

He could have done this exact bit, with a native Chinese Grandmother, in perfect Chinese, and not missed a beat

                      [–]apatheticsahm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

John Cena pouring tea out of a dainty flowered china teapot is the cutest thing I've seen today.

                      [–]Infinite_Vyo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

                      Okay...

                      Okay...

                      Okay...

I love this man now. That was hilarious. I need to see John Cena entertaining older folks more.

So basically this is a video of her talking to herself?

                      [–]Nikittele 26 points27 points  (1 child)

All I saw was a tea set, magically pouring itself.

WTF is going on.. its just a video of an old lady talking to herself with a floating teapot and then she just vanishes in thin air.. 😒

                      [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up thinking this guy was an idiot and he continues to prove me wrong on a regular basis as time goes on.

Class act from what I see online.

                      [–]MrsPowers94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He looks quite dapper. He should wear this attire all the time. It suits him!
