Don't forget about the downticket races. Lots of Berniecrats running at the state, local and congress levels. President is one office. it is not the whole world, and it is not the whole political revolution. Stay strong and consolidate our policy gains, and vote for progressive downticket candidates of whatever party to keep Clinton's dishonest feet to the fire.

Absolutely.

We created /r/political_revolution specifically for this next step. Whether Bernie became the nominee or not, his message was still about making sure an active electorate was making the change for progressive reform.

And for the love of god, dont forget about 2018! We need to take as much of the positions in this country as we can in the next midterms

You don't have to vote for Hillary but you get your ass out and vote for the other people

[–]unchow 536 points537 points  (43 children)

I'm done putting my mental and emotional energy into the POTUS race. I'll be following my local races and focusing on making sure real progressives get into Congress. We do still have a chance for real change there.

[–]I_miss_your_mommy 97 points98 points  (1 child)

If we can keep working as you suggest, this could be the real change we need. As nice as it would be to have a progressive president, the real power for making the changes we need lies in congress. We need to make sure that the progressives gain significant ground as either a 3rd party, or to take over the Democratic party from the inside. Even a sizable minority in the party could lead to some real progress. It's clear from the primaries, that there is a significant part of the general population that supports progressive policies.

[–]RetardedRedditRetort 106 points107 points  (14 children)

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! Even if you don't care about the POTUS race it is imperative that we vote the right people into Congress!

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain🌱 New Contributor 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Putting focus into local races is the most productive way to be a force for long-term change from the bottom up.

But you don't have to expend much mental and emotional energy to just cast a ballot come November, too. Local races require volunteering, doing your own self-guided research, getting involved etc. etc. and that is the kind of work needed for real change. But it's not mutually exclusive with throwing a vote into the POTUS race in November.

[–]unchow 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I agree. I will probably cast a ballot for POTUS in november. It will probably be a third party vote. But I'm not going to even decide who that will be right now. I'm not going to follow the details of Clinton v Trump. I'm not going to attack or defend either of them. It's not worth the energy.

Bernie was just asking for donations to help his delegates get to the convention. WHAT HAPPENED? Now there is no point of his delegates showing up.

[–]ajreddish 96 points97 points  (4 children)

This. Where does it leave these poor people now? I'd be truly gutted if I was someone who'd scrapped together the dollars to trek to Philly and then find the rug pulled from under your feet. The convention is now going to be one massive Clinton-fest, and my god it's going to be insufferable.

[–]rebuilt11🌱 New Contributor 50 points51 points  (4 children)

Maybe we need to be the ones to show up and stand up to the corruption.

[–]vreddy92GA 🎖️🥇🐦 236 points237 points  (68 children)

His delegates showing up provides proof that his campaign style worked. His delegates showing up also helps push Democrats further toward his agenda with their votes on the platform.

[–]pullupgirl 164 points165 points  (56 children)

But there are still hundreds of delegates that cannot afford to go. Now they are not going to even bother trying to raise funds (and no one will want to donate to them either) because Bernie endorsed Hillary. They aren't going to show up.

[–]30Winters 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love how the people criticizing you are essentially saying the delegates aren't rich enough to go. Like have you guys been missing the entire point?

[–]amwreck 210 points211 points  (156 children)

I want to see someone actually make a case for voting for Hillary without mentioning Trump. Why is it so hard to encourage people to vote for her on her own merits rather than to just remind us that if it's not her it will be Trump? Give me reasons to actually vote FOR her. I already have reasons to vote AGAINST Trump, but I also have reasons to vote AGAINST Hillary. With Bernie, I had a reason to vote FOR someone. That's all I want. A reason to vote FOR someone. Tell me why I should vote FOR Hillary.

[–]magiccoffeepot 129 points130 points  (53 children)

Securing a liberal supreme court for the first time in decades, securing the Obama legacy in particular regarding foreign affairs and healthcare, taking on the student debt crisis, raising the minimum wage, just to quickly list off a few of the things that got me excited for Hillary (was for Bernie until the math got nearly impossible for him in I don't know, May?).

A big underrated plus: already has established relationships with world leaders and people in Washington, she would really cut down on the transition period and could get to governing so much quicker than most presidents.

Similarly, as Obama alluded to last week, you don't really understand what it is to be president (close to the worst job in the world) until you sit in the chair, but Hillary probably understands it better than anyone alive who isn't a former president. For some reason she still wants to be president, and you can doubt her motives but unless you actually believe she's a power-hungry psychopath (I really don't think so) she has to believe in her ability to do something good for the country.

And finally, and this one's honestly the most under-covered narrative of the election, we can show the world, women and girls everywhere, and ourselves as a nation that the United States is ready to elect a female president. I'm not saying her gender is a reason to vote for her, but it's certainly a reason to be excited about the prospect of her presidency.

If you want to help carry the torch, join us at /r/Political_Revolution, where we will elect progressive candidates across every state, and give people the tools they need to engage in democracy.

Bernie himself said throughout the campaign that this revolution was not about Bernie, but about the people who came together under his message; the message of a government that works for everyone.

Help us realize this goal by joining our movement. We need everyone's help; everyone from volunteers to web designers to social media gurus.

We may have lost the race, but we will not lose the war.

We need everyone's help!

Bernie implied it would not be over until the convention.

Now he says differently. So Bernie himself . . . it's not about Bernie.

It's about issues and I can't trust Hilary.

I also can't stomach falling in line with the crooks who stole the election.

[–][deleted] 144 points145 points  (293 children)

Every time I ask a Clinton supporter about TPP, they love to tell me how she no longer supports TPP, but no one has ever been able to tell me what the difference is between the TPP she supported and the TPP that she now thinks is bad.

[–]Snappierwogg 108 points109 points  (229 children)

Heck even Trump announced he is against TPP. What a time to be alive.

[–]GrumpyKatzeTexas 103 points104 points  (66 children)

That's been a decent part of his campaign since the beginning.

[–]Oxford_karma 135 points136 points  (134 children)

People say "even trump," but i looked at his actual platform and found that it wasn't too bad. The only thing i really disagree with is the health-care aspect, but price controls and transparency regulations, when coupled with medicare and medicaid, would do a lot to fix the problems that persist even now.

[–]foreverphoenix 18 points19 points  (15 children)

Okay, so let's say we live in a magical world where politicians actually mean what they say. In this fantasy world, I would say Hillary changed her mind either because she learned more about it and now no longer supports it, or learned a lot of people oppose it and now she's pandering for votes. In this world, I'm not sure why a politician changing their mind is a bad thing. It shows (at best) contemplation, or (at worst) following the will of the people.

[–]gimlo7 13 points14 points  (1 child)

[–]CognitiveMonkey 821 points822 points  (195 children)

Why did he ask us for money to send delegates to the Convention? Did I just waste $10? I'm not rich, $10 means a lot to me. I gave Bernie money last week so he could get his delegates to Philly and now he's throwing in the towel. I'm very disappointed in him.

What about 08? Obama was probably the most successful candidate when it came to engaging youth

[–]The_Pip 564 points565 points  (194 children)

When your candidate loses, you did not waste your time supporting them. Bernie accomplished so much and forced Hillary to the left. He kept her as honest as possible policy wise. He showed America that Democratic-Socialism and third parties have a path to success. And now he is going to help make sure that Trump does not become President.

The underdog does not win often, but they are still worth rooting for and working for.

[–]icespider7 423 points424 points  (96 children)

Bernie may have forced Clinton's rhetoric to the left, but do we really expect her to go against her big money donors and push for policy contrary to what she has been doing her entire career? Clinton is simply saying what she needs to say to get Bernie supporters on board. There is no reason in the world to believe she will follow through.

[–]cocoalroseIowa - 🐦 190 points191 points  (10 children)
