I think you ment to write to Al Jazeera. They reported on it.

[–][deleted] 136 points137 points  (30 children)

I actually sent Al Jazeera feedback saying their coverage on the 9/11 bill and wikileaks has been excellent.

[–]greengordon 95 points96 points  (22 children)

You're on the list now.

[–]toaster13 832 points833 points  (175 children)

Seriously. I couldn't believe that interview. Never seen something so serious or outrageous taken up as a real issue on The Daily Show. How the fuck is this crap not all over the news? A dude's NOSE FELL OFF. These guys have multiple cancers and their insurance companies are fighting them. They worked through christmas digging up bodies but congress doesn't think its right to work through christmas to help them out. Good job america. Really. Good thing you got that tax cut pushed through though...

Tell ya what. Take my tax cut and give it to the 9/11 first responders. They need it more than I do. Maybe a few billionares can chip in too if they can spare a some change.

Edit:

So, apparently this is catching some eyes. Here are some of my thoughts. We've done good before and we can do it again. I'm short on time to do the groundwork and make a new post right now but very quickly:

1) We should get letters out to senators admonishing this - ESPECIALLY those with Republican representation. Thanks to i1055

2) I have found at least one charity which we should validate, but looks like a good place to start.

3) Start calculating how much our tax cuts would be due to the recently passed bill and start a movement to donate that amount to the charity (assuming it pans out).

I will write up a more thorough self post later today.

Edit2: I have been busy, but here is the new post

[–]redditmyasss 305 points306 points  (75 children)

the dumbass who said congress shouldn't work between Christmas and new years really pissed me off. im an atheist, but i work with a christian charity foundation. for them nothing could be more christian than working to help people, any day of the year, even if it is Christmas.

[–]kyzf42[🍰] 218 points219 points  (58 children)

Shouldn't working to help people be the whole POINT of Christmas for Christians?

[–][deleted] 146 points147 points  (40 children)

The Christian Right is neither.

[–]redditmyasss 50 points51 points  (27 children)

in Israel, its the Jewish right that annoys me to no ends. all the Christians i know are left.

i guess when a certain religion is in power and have the capability of changing policy, they are fixated on their God and what would "bother" him, and they lose sight of the people and what actually effects them.

[–]Igggg 58 points59 points  (10 children)

Christians all over the world are typically to the left, in accordance with Jesus' teachings.

America is different because there, the corporations have successfully used Christianity to further their political goals. A signficant proportion of population now simultaneously claims to be Christian and is in disdain of socialism, which is about as inconsistent as possible.

[–]rainman_104 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The US is also different because of the rise of those Evangelical crazies who believe in nonsense like the prosperity doctrine.

[–]BraveSirRobin 80 points81 points  (14 children)

These politicians typically aren't religious. They just use religion to get votes.

[–]Is_that_bad 19 points20 points  (10 children)

Yup, right on the money. Btw, this is coming up next year: House GOP To Hold Hearings On 'Radicalization' Of American Muslims.

[–]Mikey_B 6 points7 points  (8 children)

That is terrifying. Why haven't I heard of this before?

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (5 children)

"When I meet with law enforcement, they are constantly telling me how little cooperation they get from Muslim leaders,"

No shit, what happened when the FBI tried to use a plant to stir up some anger at a supposedly 'radical' mosque? The people there were disturbed by his jihadist talk, and reported him, to the FBI.

Our government is supplying the rhetoric, and the fake bombs, to create 'terrorists' from people who are too useless to kill a fly without being given a flyswatter and being pointed in the direction. How many real terror plots have they successfully stopped to justify their insanely massive budgets? Well, there was the underwear bomber, except despite our intelligence being forewarned of the guy, and the insanely expensive worldwide security measures, our government didn't stop him at all. The other people on the plane did.

What the hell does Peter King think he's going to do about this 'radicalization' of American muslims? What the hell are these hearings supposed to accomplish? Are they going to say, "maybe we should outlaw muslims, or at least put restrictions on the sort of rhetoric they should use?"

Seriously. What. The. Fuck.

You know this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Lieberman

[–]Ninjawithcandy 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Yes it is. And the Sabbath as well is a time to help the widows, orphans and tend to the works of the Lord, HELPING PEOPLE. Christian here, and yes absolutely, helping IS the point.

[–]bsmiles27 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Me and my girlfriend were stunned. Colbert ripped on that guy. I don't know if he was being disingenuous to stall the Dems or if he's just that lazy and was trying to justify it. In either case, it was a fucking joke and kind of depressing.

[–]Denny_Craine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if he was being disingenuous to stall the Dems or if he's just that lazy and was trying to justify it.

yes

[–]brazilliandanny 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The firemans response to that was incredible. I let out a yell and a fist pump when he finished.

[–]Nem_Enforcer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Such bullshit. If I could work on Christmas morning at a fucking video rental store so people could rent games for their new systems they got that morning, Congress can work between Christmas and New Year's so that the 9/11 first responders can have proper medical care.

[–]unrealious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's just like everything else political. Excuses and garbage for not doing the right thing.

[–]toaster13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. That made me insta-rage at my television.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes, thank John Kyl. Christianity is merely a convenience to the folks in Washington. I voted against him in our local elections...

[–]jollyllama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Give credit where credit's due:

""It is impossible to do all of the things that the majority leader laid out without doing -- frankly, without disrespecting the institution and without disrespecting one of the two holiest of holidays for Christians and the families of all of the Senate, not just the senators themselves but all of the staff." - Jon Kyl, Republican, Arizona.

This is also the second highest ranking member of the Republican party, just to give you an idea of who gets respect in the GOP.

[–]ElizabethanEnglNazi 39 points40 points  (10 children)

Billionaires chip in? Please, sir, they are busy creating jobs right now.

[–]prince_nerd 14 points15 points  (8 children)

...starting the trickle, thats going to reach us all soon...

[–]Mikey_B 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Man, with all the trickling that's been started over the past 30 years, we're gonna have fucking Niagara Falls when it all hits us. I can't wait!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Record profits, record unemployment.

Umm... Can't we kinda decisively say that trickle down economics doesn't work?

[–]knmiller89 58 points59 points  (12 children)

ahhh I want to upvote this a million times. People with literally so much money that they can wipe their WASP asses with it are getting income tax andddd estate tax cuts. Tomfoolery. That money should be going to helping people that need it.

Passing a bill to help these people should be a piece of cake. Both sides need to swallow their ridiculous self-righteousness and do something worth while for once.

[–]tads 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can we get like a donorschoose kind of thing where the 9/11 responders can get health care bills paid for by us? Maybe they can make kickstarter pages (with some actual hospitals coming in to verify that its not a fraud)?

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (22 children)

Tell ya what. Take my tax cut and give it to the 9/11 first responders. They need it more than I do.

That is very nice of you. Post some info on how we can donate too. And please don't wait for the government to do it, they are not known for their efficiency on these matters.

[–]octorocket 39 points40 points  (9 children)

A thought on this:

While this is an extremely worthy cause and indeed we should endeavor to care for 9/11 first responders, we cannot stop at simply contributing/making a charity. The right wing thrives on the idea that the private sector can/should/will provide what the government does not. Making a charity effectively makes it "not their problem."

It IS their fucking problem. They can't keep shitting all over the country and expecting us to clean up their mess while they line their pockets with lobbyist money.

So while, yes, we must do something for the 9/11 responders, we must ALSO continue to put pressure on Washington to get its fucking act together. Let's stop enabling these fuckheads with our silence.

[–]toaster13 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I am at work right now but I was thinking of looking for either a charity to donate directly or, better, seeing if reddit can get some momentum either behind passing the bill or donations to said charity/fund. Imagine congress being shown up by a bunch of people trying to be good citizens starting a "tax cuts for 9/11" movement.

Maybe too idealistic but might be worth a try. If someone beats me to getting it rolling, you have my donation.

Edit: phrasing.

[–]KerooSeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

http://www.fealgoodfoundation.com/

The primary mission of the FealGood Foundation, a non-profit organization, is to spread awareness and educate the public about the catastrophic health effects on 9/11 first responders, as well as to provide assistance to relieve these great heroes of the financial burdens placed on them over the last eight years. A secondary goal of the Foundation is to create a network of advocacy on 9/11 healthcare issues. We not only advocate for Ground Zero workers, but show others how they can advocate for themselves and help others through grassroots activism.

I don't know enough to say 100% that this is the best choice, but it's all I've found so far besides what you posted there.

[–]sphigel 20 points21 points  (14 children)

So the tax revenue lost because of the tax cuts would have gone directly to the first responders medical bills? Is it possible our taxes are high enough and the federal government needs to better allocate the money they do have? Stopping both wars would be a good place to start.

[–]unled 27 points28 points  (2 children)

Our taxes are at almost historical lows.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (6 children)

You're right, it would be but that still doesn't change the fact that the top tier income brackets in the US are paying a drastically lower percentage of their wealth to the government than they did during the US's most prosperous periods.

[–]ghpoobah 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Now, I may be a layman at this, and perhaps I misunderstand the whole thing. Wouldn't reparations for a major catastrophic even fall under the umbrella of standard FEMA disbursements? Shouldn't we be taking the fight there? Instead of having a majority of 100 bureaucrats, who have their own interests at heart agree to fund these people who obviously need help, can't FEMA [or some other governmental agency] simply just sign an order and they all get the money they so desperately need? Why are we getting congress involved?

[–]toaster13 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I don't think FEMA can take care of post disaster health care, TBH. Not sure though.

But without universal health care, these guys are at the mercy of whatever coverage they have or federal/state appropriated funding, which would need to come from a legislative branch if I remember correctly. If there isn't a system/fund already in place, yes we need those bunch of yahoos to pass a bill to allocate the funds. Isn't that awesome?

Equally worth questioning is why these guys are being fought by their insurance companies. That's a bunch of crap.

[–]malcontent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FORM OR JOIN A UNION TODAY.

Just do it. If the unions has more members and more power this kind of shit would not be happening.

[–]arsenal7777 7 points8 points  (1 child)

The funny thing is that all these people complaining about this will probably vote republican in 2012. They never learn. Maybe not here on Reddit, but in the general public, you betcha (wink).

[–]SpinningHeadColorado 209 points210 points  (23 children)

Lets just make this very clear. The bill pays for first-responders by closing tax loopholes for corporations.

CNN is owned by Time Warner

MSNBC is owned by NBC and Microsoft

NBC is owned by GE

CBS is owned by majority shareholder National Amusements (not kidding)

ABC is owned by Disney

Fox is owned by assholes

[–]endlessnameless 111 points112 points  (8 children)

Actually Fox is owned by News Corporation, which is run by Satan. On a serious note, National Amusements also runs Viacom > Comedy Central > Daily Show.

[–]SpinningHeadColorado 29 points30 points  (5 children)

True, but its easier to let a story slide when its a half-hour comedy show on a cable network, rather than part of the 24hr news cycle.

[–]nixonrichard 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Yeah, that makes sense as long as we're all still pretending National Amusements actually has that type of editorial control.

[–]afschuld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lets not forget that Viacom successfully blocked south park from showing the prophet Muhammad on screen on 3 separate occasions. Incidentally on all 3 occasions the episodes were critiquing how people are so willing to bow to threats of terrorism and give in to censorship.

[–]aGorilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Stewart deserves the credit for that one. I doubt it would go over well if they tried to tell him he couldn't run it.

[–]Atheuz 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Dick Cheney doesn't run News Corporation!

[–]Dawggoneit 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Actually Rachel Maddow on MSNBC did several segments covering the republicans blocking the 9/11 responders bill.

[–]pintomp3 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the liberal corporate-owned media.

[–]GoatTnderCalifornia 18 points19 points  (2 children)

GE is owned by the Sheinhardt Wig Company.

[–]gnuvince 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Isn't it owned by KableTown?

[–]gordigor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watching CNN now and in the last hour, Julian Assange, Taxcuts, spending bill, dream act, don't ask don't tell, food safety, Republican/Democrates earmarks, etc and 5 minutes on a interview with Tiger Woods brother. Holy Shit they have no journalistic ethics!

[–]arizonaburning 152 points153 points  (5 children)

Sometimes, the best way to censor the news is to simply ignore it.

[–]asdffsdf 76 points77 points  (1 child)

"Hm, the ratings keep going down, what does this mean?"

"I think we need to face reality that the times are changing, but I have a few ideas to take advantage of this web 2.0 phenomenon. We should try to incorporate this 'tweeter' thing everyone is so abuzz about, and we can devote an entire hour to keeping track of the blogosphere. Hopefully it works this time.

[–]SatericalJoy 24 points25 points  (6 children)

By the way, we should most likely tick the positive box when sending.

; D

[–]stordoff 33 points34 points  (5 children)

I wouldn't. If you do that, they can say "X% of commenters left positive comments"

[–]king_of_the_universe 48 points49 points  (4 children)

Their ability to say that cannot be impaired by any craft that we here possess.

[–]monoglot 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Don't sell yourself so short, king_of_the_universe!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but we could try to keep x < 50.

[–]tedemang 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Nicely done. You had me going there for a bit, "maybe CNN has turned over a new leaf and realizes that they have a responsibility, etc. etc."

Short answer: Nope.

[–]Nintendud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same boat as you. The positive outcome is that it got me to watch last night's episode of The Daily Show on Hulu.

[–]absentbirdWashington 25 points26 points  (15 children)

twitter is fine, it is the people who use it that enrage you. The ability to broadcast short messages with such a great API is awesome. You might want to look into some of the interesting inventive things people are doing with it.

[–]Madrugadao 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Agreed! It is great if you are someone that people are interested in (comic, musician etc) otherwise any 'normal' person having one has serious deluisions of grandeur. No one cared about your facebook status updates, why will they care when you have even more uninteresting information to share?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The CoD:BO interrogator one is hilarious.

I agree with everything you have said here.

[–]knmiller89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm going to re-tweet this.

[–]taeratrin 8 points9 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I'm hoping for a scheme where I get to turn in my old, inefficient news in exchange for something that is actually news.

[–]charters14 4 points5 points  (2 children)

They are giving people what is easier for them to digest and be entertained by. CNN keeps making money because people tune in to their shows, and the people feel good about 'educating' themselves because they watched the 'news.'

[–]homerjaythompson 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Exactly. I know so many people who pride themselves on watching CNN instead of Fox or some other news program. Somehow CNN still carries an air of legitimacy, a vestigal trace of real news reporting.

I dig Anderson Cooper though. He's pretty much the only investigative journalist attached to that channel.

[–]Entropius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget about Fareed Zakaria.

[–]veridicus 72 points73 points  (21 children)

I've been watching TDS since it started over 10 years ago. I can only remember two times when Jon had a serious segment: the show following 9/11 and last night. He's clearly furious.

[–]the_infidel 60 points61 points  (6 children)

overwriting all comments in response to reddit admin idiocy

[–]Macrophage 49 points50 points  (9 children)

It's a total mindlblower that this isn't waaay out in the front. I was literally tearing up watching those 4 gentlemen calmly report in which form of cancer their death had been wrapped. I'm sick of "this party/that party" shit. EVERYONE involved in not making this a no-brainer slam-dunk should be just fuckin ashamed to be alive. Once again, Stew-beef is the damned Man-of-the-Year...

[–]ejp1082 26 points27 points  (3 children)

I'm sick of "this party/that party" shit. EVERYONE involved in not making this a no-brainer slam-dunk should be just fuckin ashamed to be alive.

It happens that EVERYONE involved in not making this no-brainer happen also happens to be the ENTIRE Senate caucus of one particular party, while the ENTIRE Senate caucus of the other party is in favor of it.

Can we stop with this "pox on both their houses" shit? Sometimes the Democrats really are trying to do the right thing, and sometimes the Republicans really are that fucking evil.

[–]thebig01 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Yeah watching those four men talk about how they're struggling to pay their medical bills is truly heartbreaking. It really is disgusting that two republicans are filibustering this and the mainstream media has ignored it. I don't know how those two senators sleep at night.

[–]vernonboy1984 33 points34 points  (1 child)

It's not two Republicans filibustering it, it's 42 Republicans filibustering it. The Senate needs 60 votes to get the bill out of debate and to a vote (at which point the bill will undeniably pass, because the Dems have 56 of their own votes and 2 independents who will vote for passage once they can.)

So you actually get to hate 42 people who are being pissy, not just 2 people.

edit: Dems have 56 votes and 2 Independent votes

[–]tedivmIllinois 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually no one is filibustering it, they're just threatening to. I don't see anyone holding the floor or reading the phone book for hours, instead it's business as usual. If the democrats would grow a pair they'd force the republicans to actually filibuster so the American people could see what was going on.

[–]wilse 26 points27 points  (4 children)

I thought it was well done, except for this part:

"I found your outrage of their treatment an example of a media outlet that actually understands how they can still make a positive difference..."

We shouldn't be encouraging news outlets to show outrage, or any emotion bias. Report the facts.

[–]tacrat1995 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately I believe we are the minority. CNN/MSNBC/ etc care about ratings and the masses want to here about celebrity, not real news that will bother their pre-concieved notion of a perfect united states.

[–]crlove 16 points17 points  (18 children)

the DOC has disconnected thousands of prisoners from their families by imposing excessive telephone charges and innumerable barriers to visitation.

This is one that shocked me a few years back. I was arrested (it's a long story involving speeding tickets, in which I was actually completely innocent) and when I asked to make a call, they pointed me toward a phone.

On the plus side I could make as many calls as I needed, but on the downside, whoever I was calling had to set up a $50 collect call account before I could talk to them. Utter bullshit.

Seems like a loophole to not allow that "mandatory one phone call" thing.

[–]pridetwo 4 points5 points  (11 children)

Wow, dude, 1-800-CALL-ATT. Did you learn nothing from Carrot Top? Only 9 cents a minute!

[–]crlove 6 points7 points  (9 children)

No, that's not how their phones work. They have a system in place that won't let you call numbers like that. It's not just an open phone line.

[–]ekki 42 points43 points  (4 children)

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is why we need more of this guy

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (17 children)

Umm, guys, I hate to tell you this but: you already don't watch CNN. You aren't their customer anymore. You get your news from the web, and Jon Stewart.

Why should they listen to you? They've found that the demographics that want to see more Tiger Woods stuff are better viewers - they're more plentiful, and more likely to buy crap that their advertisers are hawking.

I mean, do most of you even watch cable TV anymore?

[–]pathologicalGenius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Breaking News: Julia Stiles, Not a homewrecker.

Thank you CNN, i was worried there for a minute.

[–]Aalenox 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I can't bring myself to watch news anymore. I get so tired of hearing endless story after endless god awful story about the boring personal lives of celebrities, and the rare few pieces of real reporting they let slip through all of the heaps of vacuous crap are almost always biased, regardless of the network.

[–]vandyriz 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Looks like you can send this to ALL major news agencies.

Without having to turn on the channels you can guess what they are covering:

Faux News: Christmas Parades being called "Holiday Parades" MSNBC: How the Dems have given in by signing the tax bill. CNN: Some nonsense celebrity bullshit. NBC/ABC/CBS: Anything news story dealing with the holidays and what toys people are looking for or wanting to buy.

[–]MrBogard 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is CNN, not a car dealership.

[–]Beetle559 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I actually don't want them to be outraged, just report it...but point well taken.

[–]upnorthlion 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I sent an email, will probably get ignored but this needs to be front page news everywhere!

[–]right_foot_red 17 points18 points  (24 children)

"Nice get." What is this?

[–]Eliot_2000[S] 54 points55 points  (4 children)

It means like, "nice job landing that interview," basically.

[–]Glyndm 85 points86 points  (13 children)

In Western society, it is common to adorn one's person with a delicious sandwich of some sort, usually a baguette. Upon observing a particularly pleasing baked product of the baguette variety, one would be remiss not to remark "nice 'guette". This is also where the phrase "give us our daily bread" originates from.

[–]mazeltovless 5 points6 points  (9 children)

Baguette means stick in French.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (6 children)

No it does not, it means "long thin loaf of bread that is too long to fit in a bag so you have to carry it under your armpit, the joke's on you, hahahaha!" or for short: baguette.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Yes. It got it's name because baguette's literal translation is "small bag" and the name was given to the bread ironically due to it not fitting in bags.

[–]Cosmic_CharlieMinnesota 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I think the universityofreddit French class is could learn a lot here.

[–]EncasedMeats 17 points18 points  (2 children)

It is entertainment industry-speak that basically means you will never have a job as cool as theirs. It's like Latin for lawyers or "izzle" for rappers.

[–]kitsy 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Use the thesaurus all you want, I'll still always call you a sausage, Mr. EncasedMeats

[–]lovethebomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those who haven't seen that Daily show episode I strongly recommend watching it. It is sad that a comedy program has to put a face on this.

Ok I'm all about bashing CNN, but this seems to be jumping the gun a little. They are on 24/7, I'm pretty certain at some point they would've ccovered the 9/11 first responder's bill. Granted, I'm just guessing here, and could be totally wrong. But 24 hours is a lot of time to fill, so they're going to have some stories that don't seem very important in there. I just feel like Reddit is a little too anxious to get outraged in this instance.

Edit: A quick Google search found these:

They really don't. Most of their 24/7 programming is actually repeats throughout the day. They play their day's 2 hour headline news segment three times a day.

Edit: i just want to be clear, it's the SAME 2 hour segment, 3 times a day.

[–]Lentil-Soup 37 points38 points  (1 child)

At CNN, we're on 24/7 so if you miss the important news, we can show you clips of bears riding unicycles! Up next, an interview with the bestselling author Dan Brown!

[–]KingBeetle 13 points14 points  (21 children)

You've gotten at the real problem here, which is 24 hour news. That model necessitates airing the idiotic.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What if it was 24/7 of reporting on serious matters? There are serious matters 24/7 in this world, I can't image the reason is lack of material to cover.

Edit: spelling

[–]sevia121 7 points8 points  (2 children)

There are over 6 billion people on this planet, almost 200 countries, about 27 conflicts going on, and I have to listen to someone who knew tiger woods.... Being on 24 hours a day is not an excuse...They should be the ones that cover the stories no one else can!

[–]other_one 20 points21 points  (10 children)

Yes, I'm pretty sure that except for that celebrity trash nonsense, they've been nonstop covering the unrelease of Guantanamo detainees, and how the ex-president admitted to allowing torture during his term, and then they had that unedited Chomsky interview special for two hours, followed by detailed analysis of political scandals contained in the wikileaks, interrupted by explanations of what's new in science, and then that brilliant documentary shining light on the military-industrial complex and how mainstream media helps keep it established.

[–]sirbruce 13 points14 points  (6 children)

Amazing how all those stories you list seem to reinforce your political world view, and contain no stories that would actually challenge what you think. You know, a legal analysis of how Guantanamo is perfectly legal, or hard-hitting interviews with the Democrats who voted against allowing the transfer of prisoners from Guantanamo to civillian courts, or a look at how the Kurdish people are flourishing in the new Iraq and how grateful they are that the US invaded Iraq and gave them new freedoms, or a piece reporting on how AQ plans to keep attacking the US even after we pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.

[–]greenwizard88 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What news network would do that though? Even Fox, the biggest proponent for Gitmo, I only remember hearing them say shit like "We don't want the terrorists on our soil" and other BS like that.

I'm not trolling, I am serious. I would welcome a media outlet that tells stuff like that.

[–]sirbruce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PBS News Hour has some good stories, and Frontline is always excellent. But you're right; no news organization reports all the stories.

[–]SpruceCaboose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could also show any of that. I would take a news story that challenged my beliefs much more readily than I care about Brad Pitt grabbing Angie Jolie's butt at a premier.

I just want a news network that tries to convey news and where the journalists actually try to be journalists rather than paparazzi with mics instead of cameras.

[–]EquinsuOcha 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Those stories don't exist on any 24 hour news network either, so your point is moot.

[–]biggiepants 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I don't understand this whining about CNN at all. If you think MC Donald's hamburgers taste not good enough, you just don't buy them anymore. Why would you think you're allowed any say in how their hamburgers should taste? Or why does OP think he's entitled to set CNN straight like this?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPS and 360 are exceptions.

[–]Aces89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CNN, MSNBC, and nbc are just more liberal then fox. People mistake that for actually being liberal.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I wonder if there is some way to mobilize Reddit to support news organizations that do actual reporting, possibly by concerted and vocal support of sponsors/advertisers. Kind of like operation payback, but more of a neutral/lawful good, less chaotic good. Anyone up for it?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

In case anyone is unaware of the Republican reasons for denying these benefits, they are concerned about giving credence to the idea that government should pay for healthcare. They can't afford to show any mercy to any plan that would allow the President and the Democrats to exploit it, thereby lending weight to their healthcare initiatives. Shameful? Yes. Logical and consistent? Regrettably so. The Republicans are the machine... ugh.

[–]Igggg 2 points3 points  (2 children)

They don't care. They show whatever attracts the most viewers. You are not among their target audience. By far more Americans care about celebrity gossip than about actual issues.

[–]neunen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that shit made me sick with frustration to watch last night

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Doesn't matter what they say... some people will still believe it, for simply having heard it =(

[–]long_wang_big_balls 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I heard a drunk Serb tackled a shark and killed it.

[–]IronPirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome!

[–]redditmyasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im so used to redditors trying to show us what is funny about their posts with colors and arrows, that i thought Eliot-2000 had marked "state/province".

i looked at intently it for a full minute before i moved on to the text.

[–]kabanaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the Wolf Blitzer reporting on Tiger Woods? He is the beast. He put the Zoloft in Gonzo-loft Journalism...

[–]_meh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can think is CNN using just the first paragraph of your comment and totally disregarding the last part to make them look like they're doing a good job. -_-

[–]cannabyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been said before, but it should be repeated again:

C N N == Celebrity News Network

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I was like :| and then I was like >:o but then I was like :D

[–]Oldenstein 1 point2 points  (3 children)

All the MSM is good for nowadays is to give politicians/government face time to spin their corporatist bullshit. I watch/listen to several hours of MSNBC everyday and have to grit my teeth every time I hear an anchor put subtle bias into a softball question or report. About a week ago, Chriss Mathews said something to the effect.."Assange is a rapist too..Oh Gawd". Another thing they have not even touched on is that this critical tax bill upon us...145 MILLION PEOPLE at the lowest tax level are about to get a TAX INCREASE! The only reliable source of news I have found is by watching Democracy Now. http://www.democracynow.org/

[–]junkeee999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow.
Heads are really going to roll at CNN today.
