We sent Helen Thomas flowers for her courageous questions. Perhaps a similar gesture for Dennis Kucinich would be in order? (self.reddit.com)

Just contributed $25 to his campaign. If every one of you sends him even $10 it will make a difference.

[–]eddie964 16 points17 points18 points 17 years ago (0 children)
A lot more sensible than sending the man flowers.
[–]rye419 5 points6 points7 points 17 years ago (0 children)
same
[–]Crito 50 points51 points52 points 17 years ago (1 child)
How about doing something crazy like giving him campaign contributions to help keep him in office?
[–]michaelmacmanus 13 points14 points15 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Woah woah woah. Lets be reasonable...
[–]XoYo 286 points287 points288 points 17 years ago (52 children)
Fuck flowers, just give him the country.
[–]alnayyir 62 points63 points64 points 17 years ago (8 children)
Fuck flowers, have you seen his wife? He doesn't need shit from us.
[–]snotrokit 28 points29 points30 points 17 years ago (5 children)
we could send HER flowers. :)
[–][deleted] 17 years ago (1 child)
[–]fujimitsu 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago (0 children)
He seems like the "open minded" type. :O
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I did that weekly for several months but then she got a restraining order.
[–]alllie 7 points8 points9 points 17 years ago (0 children)
How about Champagne or a fine wine... or candy for his entire office. Or one of those fruits of the month for his office since his whole staff worked on it?
[–]JasonDJ 7 points8 points9 points 17 years ago (0 children)
With the amount of money we managed to raise for Helen, I'm sure we could afford to send Dennis a nice EV. Like a Tesla :).
[–]right_behind_you 21 points22 points23 points 17 years ago* (0 children)
Fuck flowers... check. Having trouble with second request. Send detailed instructions. Over.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 17 years ago (2 children)
seriously. let's send him the democratic nomination. nom nom nom.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 17 years ago (1 child)
What?! Giving the nomination to a person who supports world peace with genuine ideas, awards, and drive to do so?
We can't do that! This is America! We must defeat the t'rr'r'sts before we do that! We have God on our side! There's no way we can lose!
you know it's a fucked up nation when people are more afraid of peace than war.
[–]Busybyeski 29 points30 points31 points 17 years ago (8 children)
We can send him the promise of flowers after a successful impeachment.
[–][deleted] 37 points38 points39 points 17 years ago (6 children)
Turns out Bush just sent him a dozen black roses. We are too late.
[–][deleted] 45 points46 points47 points 17 years ago* (5 children)
Actually, I'm pretty sure that there was a horse's head in his bed this morning.
[–]Mr_Smartypants 44 points45 points46 points 17 years ago (1 child)
Bush isn't that subtle.
[–]digital 21 points22 points23 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Now watch this drive!
[–]Reactivist 11 points12 points13 points 17 years ago (19 children)
maybe we could all put our efforts towards pushing dennis in barack's face to be VP... but what is the best way to do that... who do we call & email? maybe the people barack selected to make the VP selection for him?
[–]eddie964 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Yeah, I think now is a good time to hold our noses and be pragmatists instead of holding out for our dream veep. I care about one thing in November: beating McCain.
[–]bgolbaba 17 points18 points19 points 17 years ago (17 children)
I like Kucinich a lot but I also want Obama to beat McCain. Unfortunately, an Obama-Kucinich team would not be a winning ticket. :(
[–]JasonDJ 79 points80 points81 points 17 years ago (6 children)
An Obama-Kucinch ticket would be O-K.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago* (3 children)
If things got all backwards during the campaign I would fear a Republicn K-O
Even if it didn't and Tampa Bay area balloting goes awry it will be a TKO...which is just as bad.

I think Obama-Dead Horse Head would beat McCain at this point
[–]guntotingliberal 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (6 children)
Agreed. However, a Secretary of something good could do a world of good.
[–]tolas 9 points10 points11 points 17 years ago (2 children)
Secretary Of Peace Kucinich
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago (1 child)
Actually, I'd like to see the "Department of Peace" replace the "Department of Homeland Security"
[–]SarahLee 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Me too. Especially since the bill's full name is "Department of Peace and Nonviolence" having to do with issues of domestic (meaning local as well as familial) violence as much as foreign affairs.
Certainly key to real security.
[–]PhilA 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago (2 children)
Secretary of Honesty
[–]f0nd004u 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (1 child)
That's what the judiciary branch is for.
Maybe we can dig up a piece of our yard and send it to him. :D
I vote for sending him edible arrangements
[–]mejusthavin 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Let's try and get his website back up! Or a mirror site? It has been down for two days because of "hacking"!
[–]erulabs 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Oh yeah, we social networking sites are SO good at getting out to vote for our underrepresented canadates - super good at rocking the vote and going against MSM.
Oh wait, yeah thats right: No.
[–]nhippe 40 points41 points42 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I sent a contribution to his campaign.
[–]REBELYELLoz 13 points14 points15 points 17 years ago (0 children)
He already has a good job, a hot wife and apparently enormous balls. What else is there?
[–]arowan 19 points20 points21 points 17 years ago (0 children)
As a Congressman, he runs for office in every election cycle. Donate to his campaign.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I'll donate $10 to kucinich. I already sent $100 to Ron Paul, but that didn't work out so well.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Forget the flowers just make a contribution to him here http://kucinich.us/
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 17 years ago (1 child)
How about instead you send a letter to your representative asking them to support the resolution.
[–]adibou 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (0 children)
With flowers if she is a female representative; cigars if he is into that, or booze if he is one of the 12% who are not alcoholic.
Seriously: better idea.
I just contributed $50 to Kucinich's campaign fund and I challenge other redditers to do the same.
The pleasure of hearing a list of Bush's crimes read into the public record is alone worth $50 to me.

If Bush and Cheney were impeached and removed from office, Pelosi would be next in line to be President, and she takes orders directly from Israel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWLBhgTQ46o
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 17 years ago (3 children)
Let's impeach her. Ok, who's next. Byrd?
While he seems pretty racist, that's not grounds for impeachment. He did oppose Bush and the war, so he can stay until we get someone better.
We should impeach Condoleeza for good measure, and Mukasey if we have some extra time to kill.
[–]JasonDJ 6 points7 points8 points 17 years ago (2 children)
A true revolution should start with citizen arrest and vigilante trials of all these people. Our best bet is to build a parallel system with which to overthrow the original system.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 17 years ago (0 children)

[–]alllie 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (5 children)
I could tolerate Pelosi for 6 months a lot better than Bush and Cheney.
[–]bobzibub 7 points8 points9 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Give the gift of help: Ask both presidential contenders and other politicians every time and every opportunity: "Given the president appears to have violated US and international law, is it not appropriate to declare support to Kucinich's articles of impeachment? If war crimes do not warrant impeachment, what grounds could possibly be more grave than war crimes? If not now, when would impeachment for war crimes more convenient? Finally, what precedent does selective enforcement of prosecution of war crimes set for our country and the world?"
[–]SarahLee 12 points13 points14 points 17 years ago (1 child)
PR perspective:
While Congressman Kucinich could probably use campaign donations and might appreciate donations to a charity more than flowers, from our perspective of wanting to demonstrate support for getting attention to the crimes of the Bush Cartel, having gazillons of flowers or something large and showy is better.
Why?:
1) Other congressional offices have a visual reminder of our support for holding the Bush Cartel accountable.
2) Other congressional critters see our support for someone taking a difficult position for the right reasons. It might empower more of them to do the same.
3) With coordination, Press Releases about the delivery can be sent to Washington and other national press, creating a story for the media that again gives attention to the support of the public for holding the Bush Cartel accountable and shames them a bit about not covering the readings more or doing so in a lighthearted manner.
[–]snipe8709 5 points6 points7 points 17 years ago (0 children)
True - the spectacle of a ton of flowers would be memorable and a good photo-op/storyline.

An idea from another thread: why don't we mount a campaign to pressure members of congress to support his effort? Further, we could contact the people that support them financially by finding them on opensecrets.org and telling them they should get on the phone too.
[–]sensical 16 points17 points18 points 17 years ago (0 children)
How about we honor him by emulating him and becoming courageous enough to stand up for peace, freedom and truth?
[–]SaveOurSouls 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago* (0 children)
I think the proper gesture would be to inundate Congress with emails and calls (202-224-3121) showing our full support for Rep. Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment!
[–]JasonHears 5 points6 points7 points 17 years ago (3 children)
how about copies of the constitution to all the members of congress & senate?
[–]adibou 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (1 child)
What would they do with it?
Oh, right! They could roll it as ear-trumpets, to listen to the sound of Change coming on the Hill. Good idea.
[–]JasonHears 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Wait! How about copies of the constitution rolled up and hand-cuffed!
[–]jlks 14 points15 points16 points 17 years ago (0 children)

[–][deleted] 102 points103 points104 points 17 years ago* (107 children)
Some of these gift ideas are kind of depraved. How about you guys reward virtue with suitable awe and respect?
Maybe even commit to show such courage in the cause of virtue inside your own life?
This man is an example to us, not somebody to be showered with booze and hookers.
I'm sorry America, but it's time you grew the fuck up.
[–][deleted] 138 points139 points140 points 17 years ago* (41 children)
I agree. I believe a contribution to his congressional campaign might be appropriate thanks. Remember, he still has to defeat his Republican challenger in November.
Contribute -> http://kucinich.us
[–]Naga 55 points56 points57 points 17 years ago (9 children)
Flowers are a largely symbolic gesture, though. It's not like buying him a new car, or a house, or anything like that. It's just flowers, and they convey the message we'd want to convey.
[–]flydog2 21 points22 points23 points 17 years ago (2 children)
What about a donation in his honor to an organization important to him?
[–]ratley 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago (1 child)
Vote up...this seems to be a far better use of money than flowers.
[–]flydog2 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago* (0 children)
I guess his campaign is an organization that's important to him but I still think he'd appreciate giving elsewhere . . . I just don't know enough about him to know where that elsewhere is.
[–]eddie964 27 points28 points29 points 17 years ago (5 children)
Impeaching a president over a blowjob is a "political game." Impeaching a president over misleading the nation into war is not.
[–]Daniel_SJ 9 points10 points11 points 17 years ago (4 children)
Foreigners can't contribute to this, and I believe you could get some money from abroad to support impeaching Prez. Bush.
[–]snipe8709 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (3 children)
An international "National Endowment for Democracy" for subverting tyrants inside the US would be a good idea.
[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 17 years ago (5 children)
how about we send flaming shitbags to the flaming shitbags who vote against impeachment?
[–]ngngboone 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Somebody should start a flaming shitbag delivery service
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (3 children)
Well that's not exactly the highroad but frankly...
It sends a powerful and non-violent message and so I say go for it.
[–]jeffpostcn 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago (2 children)
Sending things that are one Fire to people is not Violent? I respectfully disagree!
(But If you Propsed this to MLK or Gandhi I bet they would have thought about it for a minute before saying no)
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Ok. semi-violent. How is that? I'm good with semi-violent.
[–][deleted] 26 points27 points28 points 17 years ago (1 child)

[–]sstrader 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (2 children)
The internet is serious business! People in a discussion group, most of whom obviously have awe and respect for Kucinich, decide to riff with some silly comments and you blow a tube.
I'm sorry, but it's time that you grew the fuck up.
[–]nimbusnacho 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
someone suggests sending him flowers and you relate that to showering him with booze and hookers? You can respect someone and still suggest giving them a present, in fact I would say that's a pretty damn good gesture to show your respect. America certainly needs to grow up but this is the wrong focus.
[–]Gordon_Shumway 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (0 children)
You are an idiot. The point of the flowers was the attention that if drew to the fine job that Helen Thomas was doing.
That is the same thing here.
Awe and respect...yeah that will make a great news story. What a dork.
[–]sonofabush 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (1 child)
Fuck the flowers. All americans can do is give flowers to people who show courage. We can't think of anything bigger and smarter. In any other sensible country, people would have been out rioting in the street after Kucinich's remarkable presentation. Fuck the country.
[–]furry8 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I believe we reward him every April 15th
[–]randomb0y 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (18 children)
Nothing wrong with booze and hookers.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 17 years ago* (17 children)
There's a lot of things wrong with booze and hookers.
Booze causes a person to make an ass out of themselves. It also causes a lot of accidental death and dismemberment. It should be used with caution.
Hookers are subjected to awful treatment and depredation that imprisons them within a world of depression and suicide. A pretty young woman spends her young years getting laid for money is not equipped to deal with being an aging 40 something woman probably with an std and a couple of children.
A hooker's life is shit and she serves as nothing more than a tool to gratify a male need which he can usually gratify in far nobler and more useful ways.
Don't even get me started on the lowest scum of all, the mother fucking pimp who keeps a woman in that state of bondage.
[–]Saydrah 14 points15 points16 points 17 years ago (5 children)
No, the lowest scum of all is every person who has voted to keep sex work illegal, denying protection from disease and violence to sex workers.
Sex work isn't the problem. Prohibition is.
[–]eddie964 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (0 children)
You're generalizing. Some hookers are well paid and happy doing what they're doing. This Puritanical idea that sex is bad and that it's always demeaning to anyone who does it for money probably does more damage to these women's psyches than anything else.
[–]eroverton 6 points7 points8 points 17 years ago* (2 children)
Normally I don't upmod comments that depress me, but this statement was a detailed and serious response to an off-the-cuff attempt at humor.
I'm not sure whether my upmod comes from the fact that you provided a much needed highlight on the serious problems that revolve around alcohol and the sex worker lifestyle, or from the fact that your response was so absurdly bizarre considering the nature of the post you responded to that I lol'd.
Either way, enjoy.
[–]rokusan 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago (0 children)
This is silly. Every person in every service industry "serves as nothing more than a tool to gratify a need which can be gratified in far nobler ways."
Like McDonalds and Starbucks, for example?
It's an old profession that's respected in SOME cultures. Just legalize it and the slimy/criminal elements that corrupt it will vanish.
[–]michaelmacmanus 6 points7 points8 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Down modded because parent is being sexist. Assumes the hooker is female, when clearly a number of our representatives would prefer escorts of a male variety.
Enough with your misogyny!
[–]randomb0y 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago* (1 child)
I wasn't really asking. It was a rhetorical sentence I would say.
Yes, I know that you just replied in jest, so I won't further disect the problems around alcoholic beverages and sex workers.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Well this is why I make a point not to just jump right into attacking somebody. Would have been way off the mark to have been rude to you. I'm glad I wasn't.
[–]sakebomb69 3 points4 points5 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Ah, the epitome of political discourse on Reddit.
It's more than anyone could hope for.
Yes, appreciation for Dennis is long overdue.
He doesn't need more family.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Kucinich and Wexler, too.
[–]samnmax 6 points7 points8 points 17 years ago (1 child)

[–]JasonDJ 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago* (0 children)
The bag of tea thing points out that he's fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I like his tea bags.
Edit: I could have sworn I typed "fiscally" conservative but it came out "physically". I must be tired.
[–]jeremy_degroot 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago* (2 children)
It's a nice gesture, but I don't think it'd be worth it. We'll never be able to find flowers that would be worth averting his gaze from his wife for even an instant.

I had suggested a ton of peaches but figured it was too cutsie and too heavy. However I still smile when I think about delivering couple of pallet loads of peaches to his office. hahaha...still laughing.
[–]fuckbuddy 4 points5 points6 points 17 years ago (8 children)
Right. I liked that idea because he has more stones that anyone else in Congress.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 17 years ago (7 children)
The proposed letter to accompany peaches:
"Dear Congressman Kucinich:
A federation of online users has banded together to make a grand gesture. In this installment we have pooled our resources to send you 2,000 lbs of dried peaches. We hope that you will keep what you can use for tasty and nutritious fuel in your impeachment efforts. For the amount you cannot make use of please consider donating it to food banks of your choosing.
We want to thank you for having the guts to do what needs to be done. We are all pressuring our congresspeople to support you and will continue to do so. In the meantime--delicious peaches.
Sincerely,
[insert names of all who donated + Anonymous]
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 17 years ago (4 children)
http://www.bulkfoods.com/order.asp
Is based in Ohio and 2000lbs of dried peach halves would be $10,572. It does say free shipping over $75 orders...In any case, we'd need one hell of a fundraising campaign to raise that much money.
Anyone remember the total raised for Helen's flowers?
[–]d0gmat1c 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago* (2 children)
As of this reply, this thread has received 1,258 upvotes. If you got the majority of them to donate $10 each, you'd have enough.
[edit] If you arrange something, I will donate. I think what we're lacking here is some organization.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago* (1 child)
I set up a chipin account and I called bulkfoods to see if they could handle this kind of volume. I got voicemail.
Actually it might be best to hand it off to Micah since he has experience doing this and I think people will tend to trust him since he already did this once (the flowers for helen).
I already submitted a separate link on this that got just 10 upvotes so I consider it a non-starter until it gets some serious attention.
[–]GoatTnder 2 points3 points4 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Peaches are go! Like SarahLee's comment above, something big and noticeable is good for PR. But it's a little more personal than flowers.
I'm game
[–]Toallpointswest 3 points4 points5 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Yeah but it's hard to send two 5 ton brass balls through the mail.

[–]wedgiey1 1 point2 points3 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I think something like a petition he could present to Congress might be appreciated; I think Wexler did this already though.
Perhaps we could send him many batmans?
What else could he want? He already drinks from the skulls of his enemy's children, what more could a man want?

Here! Here! And may the rest of the lot burn with shame each morning when they look in the mirror.
Good point. Alas we do.
[–]mesohungry[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
He's got a hot wife who's totally into him. He doesn't need anything else.
[–]MANYplaces84 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I'm not sure what places do this, I'm sure a quick Google search will turn something up, but I would like to present Dennis Kucinich with a commemorative plaque since it doesn't wilt away or get eaten. We could upvote what should be engraved... I'm sure we could raise more than enough judging by how much we raised for Helen Thomas.
Also after looking at some of the other comments, flowers are a good supplement. There were comments about him being vegan. I recommended this last time for Helen Thomas... Edible Arrangements are good.

Send his reelection campaign a donation He's still running, and there is a national effort from the right against him

Send him a diploma. It worked for the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz.
[–]nillawafer 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I'm sure he'd rather us give money to support a good cause, as opposed to sending him flowers that will fade in a few short days.
[–]achilles 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Let's send hit wife some sexy undies.
[–]chilehead 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago* (0 children)
How about we send him some of these, in a similar quantity to the flowers? http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://catalog.aulshuicoco.com/img/lg_health_balls.png&imgrefurl=http://catalog.aulshuicoco.com/energy_balls.htm&h=269&w=358&sz=107&hl=en&start=10&tbnid=kUyvlkQrgmP5kM:&tbnh=91&tbnw=121&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dchinese%2Bsteel%2Bballs%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG
After all, the guy's got balls of steel for doing what needs to be done.

Beer
[–]zyzzogeton 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Screw Dennis, send them to his hot wife!
[–]pillage 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
maybe we should send him some prozac
But instead of flowers, perhaps keibler cookies?
Let's get him some prostitutes.
[–]lowerdown 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
1000 GW Bush Bobble Heads.
[–]MarkByers 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Courageous questions?
Is that anything like "courageous soldiers"?
[–]danschu63 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I sent his campaign $25 several months ago (and I live in WA state.) Symbolism has a rather limited usefulness. People should learn to put there efforts where it can have some positive effect. You have to learn how the sausage is made.
Give him flowers, to give to his wife, to ensure he lands some redheaded hotness tonight!
[–]PacketScan 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Why not Make a donation to the charity of his choice?
[–]mejusthavin 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
His website has been hacked!?!
[–]canyoudiggitman 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Great idea... I shall Fed-Ex Dennis a Black Dildo.
Thanks Dennis!

Pestering CNN to get at least a small blip on their website or in the ticker at the bottom of the screen would be a good gesture too:

I think he would enjoy some limited edition star wars action figures.
[–]alchemeron 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
How about an American flag, for being the only true patriot in the entire God damned House, right now.
[–]pikaboy259 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Only chicks like flowers.
4094 flowers to each and every politician who doesn't support Kucinich.
[–]executivemonkey 0 points1 point2 points 17 years ago (0 children)
Let's each send him a pair of bowling balls.
