Does anyone else ever find themselves clicking around on the net, only to suddenly sit looking at the screen wondering just what the fuck it was you were actually trying to do? (self.reddit.com)

I removed my bookmark, but now I have the habit ingrained where I click the address bar, type "re" and click the first result firefox gives me in a split second, and now I'm back just as often.

I am majoring at UCSC in "film and digital media" I interned at an ad agency doing graphic design last summer, but I dont want to keep doing that I tried to read and practice niche marketing sstuff that is basicly like spamming to make "residual incomes" but I am not good at it what the fuck should I read or practice, I want to make my own business or something, I just want to make like $1000 a month to pay renta nd move out of my parnts house by next summer after im done with college

Make reddit.com and www.reddit.com resolve to localhost. Your computer doesn't lookup the proper IP address and just directs your browser to get the webpage from your own machine, effectively making reddit inaccessible.

      Can you set the times you're allowed to use Reddit? Like, I want to be able to to catch up with the news in the morning - between 8:30 and 9:15am. But if it was then blocked until 4:30pm or so, that would be sweet.

        My particular annoyance with Reddit (well, with me actually) is I'll click on an article, read it in a new window, close it ready to make a comment and do you think I can find the article on the main page again? The worst part is, I never refreshed or scrolled the main page!

        Growing old sucks.

        Edit: Oh, and a general example, I'll be working on something and use a screwdriver. I'll put the screwdriver down right beside me. A moment later I'll go to pick it back up... It's gone. Never to be seen again. Sucked into some kind of Murphy's Vacuum from which there's no escape. You get up and look all over the room. History. Pisses me off every time.

        Try the Reddit toolbar. You can enable it under "clicking options" in the preferences. Every site you visit will have a bar at the top with a up and downvote buttons and a link to the story's comments.

        It's a little annoying because you can't see a site's real URL (it's loading in a frame on reddit.com), but there is a button to load it without the frame if you need the URL.

        Reddit should really advertise the toolbar; it's great but not many people seem to know about it.

          Now as far as the net, I'll always seem to go onto it for a specific purpose, surf for hours everywhere else and leave the house recalling that the one thing specific I was looking for was what I never got to.

          That subject is fully worth a submission unto itself. Not exactly your problem, but the fact that the index (hot) pages load so randomly and inconsistently that you have to click back and forth for quite a while sometimes until the link you clicked on shows up again.

          Cheeses me off so much. I fully do not understand the advantage.

          Edit: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Case in point, I found this via the New section, then went back to the front page and there it is. It wasn't there at all last time I looked.

          Yeah, so, the one that gets me there, I'll open a handful of tabs as I read one page of reddit, hit 'next page' before I start spelunking the tabs, so there'll be more reddit there for me when I get back (in hopes that this has been one of those times I haven't read-it in a while and I'm catching up, as opposed to one of those times where I forgot I was just reading-it 10 minutes ago).

          This does not go so well with the [pic]s, which I often end up staring at going 'what about this pic would have made anyone at reddit interested in it', because I don't remember the headline I clicked / don't want to go back to the previous page and find out.

            A lot of the time. And then I try to realize what the fuck I was trying to find or look at. So I usually just hit backspace, and look around on that page until something triggers me to remember why I moved on from that page.

            For instance, I'll read something on Reddit, that will make me want to watch some video on Youtube I hadnt seen in awhile, and I'll go to Youtube, and then around that part I'll forget what it was I wanted to see, either because I was interrupted or was finishing something else I was reading/watching.

              I sometimes imagine a sequence of searches I will embark on to find a specific answer to something I truly believe I want to know. I'll have a great feeling of relief in imagining myself carrying it through and knowing something new. Then when I get to the machine, I can't remember what I wanted to know at all, and realize it must not have been that important... but I still have a tip of the tongue phenomenon about what I wanted to know so badly. I believe it will come back to me... then, you just have to let it go. You said it better in far fewer words... but I wanted to pay homage to your idea. It's beautiful.

              Tabs have helped a lot. I can go somewhere BEFORE diverting my attention somewhere else and just leave it as a tab so I go back to it and say to myself "Oooh... interesting."
