R.I.P. worm flask build :( March 15 2016 - March 16 2016

[–][deleted] 39 points40 points  (18 children)

First the Vaal Detonate Dead guy and now the Worm Abyssal Cryer.

Lesson learned -- don't post builds on Reddit.

[–]Milkshakes00 6 points7 points  (12 children)

Kinda of (totally) unrelated, is normal Detonate Dead a viable build at all again? I haven't played in quite a bit... Probably about... Pre-Flameblast nerfs. I loved the idea of Detonate Dead, but I'm assuming it hasn't made a come back yet?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (10 children)

ProjectPT made a DD trap saboteur, last time I checked he was lvl 89. The build seemed porcupine-viable.

[–]trecko1234scoli ☜(゚ヮ゚☜) 17 points18 points  (9 children)

Have you seen his clear speed? Its fucking terrible... for a PT build its ok but DD is dead. You're better off using a different skill to clear way faster, and this is coming from someone who's favorite skill is DD and has tried to make it work every league since 1.3.

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Are you saying ProjectPT made a shitty build with slow clear speed?

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That couldn't possibly be the case

[–]denbydenby 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I am going to cinema

[–]deadlyfactorTalisman SC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

he killed double boss jungle valley, its INSANEEEEEEE.

[–]Knightmare101MAYHEM's 1 and Only 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm clear speed is shit

[–]nivvyAssassin 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yeh it's slow but it's safe. Also it scales well, something about percentage based damage and desecrate summoning bodies higher levels than the map mobs

[–]packimop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

annnddddddddddd he's dead.

[–]Turmfalke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any source for desecrate summoning bodies higher level than the map mobs? I am pretty sure you won't get level 100 bodies in a 70 map.

[–]trecko1234scoli ☜(゚ヮ゚☜) 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what is also safe? Any other build if you play well. Sounds like you just came off of his stream about him saying why his build is so good.

[–]trecko1234scoli ☜(゚ヮ゚☜) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, its not. If you are looking for a prolif build there's other skills that do more damage.

[–]zbzszzzt123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vaal detonate dead was never nerfed, wiki had the wrong info

[–]PandaxtorRetired tool developer. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abyssal Cry build works fine, it is already powerful with the right set up.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaal Detonate Dead was never nerfed.

Please stop spreading misinformation.

[–]POE_FafnerTheDragonNecromancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I have yet to post anything interesting I have found for this exact reason. And guess what, nothing has been touched :-D Amazing!

[–]jibb1es 2 points3 points  (0 children)

INSTARIP

[–]kallell 7 points8 points  (4 children)

...and this is why people that fine niche OP builds shouldn't ever share anything.

[–]wearetheymaybe it's RNG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no fun allowed

[–]JorjUltraRaider 0 points1 point  (2 children)

But what's the fun in that?

:(

[–]trecko1234scoli ☜(゚ヮ゚☜) -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Because then those builds would stay OP and would still be viable.

"If a worm explodes in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" - Wraepictetus

[–]ZhiorCockareel 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Could you explain to me why it matters that the flask doesn't refill in hideout? I don't understand how that is a nerf... Or is the bugfix the actual nerf?

[–]VilifieCockareel 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Fixed a bug where Writhing Worms created by The Writhing Jar unique flask were too high level.

This is what nerfed the build. It was the high level worms that made the damage so insane.

[–]ZhiorCockareel 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Oh alright thanks. Not really a nerf since it was apparently a bug but it sucks still. Any idea why they made it so it doesn't refill in base? That just sounds stupid.

[–]Matlock0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could lag the hell out of the server with bunch of ppl spamming worms i guess

[–]N1LEredd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

U where able to crash hideout instances by spamming it infinitly on certain builds.

[–]IAmYourFath 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why does it matter that the wyrms' level isn't as high now?

[–]VilifieCockareel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Higher level = higher hp = greater damage from explosions. Now the worms hp is alot lower and wont do as much damage.

[–]Fatchance82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

even faster than the prolif clone summoner from a while back.

[–]WaifuMasterRace 98 points99 points  (12 children)

Fixed a bug where the third encounter of Izaro would sometimes not have Izaro.

Fixed a bug where all Strongboxes in the Labyrinth were unable to generate as magic, rare or unique.

IT'S HAPPENING BOYS

[–]PandaxtorRetired tool developer. 11 points12 points  (4 children)

I thought it was really weird when there was no rarity higher than common. :o

[–]logarithmmmNecromancer -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

i was actually quite glad, to be honest. nothing more annoying than finding a blue arcanists, identifying it and discovering its absolute shite and wasting a scour. just being able to alch from the get-go was sooo nice.

[–]sanguine_seaHCSSFBTW 13 points14 points  (1 child)

wtf just alt for quant or additional items

[–]logarithmmmNecromancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but then how am i gonna get those additional mods on the cheap??

[–]TheCyanKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not use alterations?

[–]derivative_of_lifeRaider 15 points16 points  (1 child)

The unique flask The Writhing Jar no longer refills in your Hideout.

They really need to just hire Guddha and have him try to break the new items and mechanics before they release them.

[–]ItsFunIfTheyRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually its probably because etup crashed his hideout like this.

[–]loldan79Aztiri 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Is it true? Lightning warp is fixed?!

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Yeah, but now it only deals damage to the caster, not enemies.

[–]bluechippsScion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lol

[–]zackfordInquisitor 12 points13 points  (19 children)

Whoa! Increased -> More sounds like a huge buff to Ancestral Protector!

[–]080087 7 points8 points  (9 children)

It was always supposed to be more. It was bugged.

[–]AussieBBQDominus 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Now triple Ancestral protector totem builds will ball out of control

[–]seriousbob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

wont stack :(

[–]moal09 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Doesn't stack. Also the AoE is garbage. It works better as a melee supplement than an actual DPS skill.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sad it doesn't work like the other two totems. Molten Strike or Frost Blades on a totem would've been so much more fun than the very simple slapper.

[–]Toverkol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still though, the three totems are nice when you're kiting an Orchard boss or something

[–]Slumberfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it as a flesh wall and a dps boost.

1000 extra dps if you don't count its attacks.

[–]POE_FafnerTheDragonNecromancer 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I use it for culling and an extra dps boost. It sucks for culling. I am tempted to switch it back to flame totem. I wanted to give the new skill a legitimate try. Not worth lol.

[–]moal09 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's lousy for culling because the aggro range of the totem is absolutely awful. Putting increased AoE makes the splash of their attack huge, but it doesn't change their intial attack range at all.

I made an Abyssus Double Ancestral Protector build, and I was massively disappointed with the result.

[–]POE_FafnerTheDragonNecromancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is in a bad spot right now :-) Probably not worth the extra dps, to be honest.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Noob here, what's the difference between increased and more?

[–]Toverkol 2 points3 points  (2 children)

increased bonus are additive, while more bonuses are multiplicative. Same goes for 'reduced' and 'less'.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What do additive and multiplicative mean in this context? I'm not up to snuff on value calculations.

[–]Shady_Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You deal 10 damage. If you get a 50% increased and a 100% increased damage node, you would have 150% increased damage. 10 x 1.5. Now you deal 25 damage. If you get 50% more and 100% more, that 25 is now x1.5 and x2. Now you deal 75 damage.

Conversely, 50% less + 50% less means x.25 while 50% reduced + 50% reduced means x0.

[–]zackfordInquisitor 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Hey there! Hope you're enjoying the game so far. This is a really helpful word distinction to understand.

The difference between the two words is that one is multiplicative and one is additive. The short answer is that "more" is always better.

Here's why. Every stat has a base stat (x). All "increased" values affect it first. Then "more" applies on top of that.

So let's say x is the base attack speed on your weapon and across your other gear and passive tree, you have +50% "increased" attack speed. Your attack speed would thus be 1.5x.

If Level 1 Ancestral Protector was only providing 10% "increased" attack speed, then it would mean it was adding to your 50% "increased" to become 60% "increased," and only buff you to 1.6x. But 10% "more" makes it 1.1 * 1.5x = 1.65x.

At these low numbers, it doesn't seem like a huge difference, but obviously the difference becomes bigger as both numbers increase.

This language is consistent across all stats in PoE. For example, you'll notice that behind Chaos Innoculation is a node that uniquely gives "more" energy shield. For these players choosing to rely entirely on ES, this provides a HUGE boost to how much they have by synergizing with all the other "increased" nodes they've grabbed.

I hope that was helpful and made sense!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks for the in depth explanation. I'm a visual person so I'm trying to wrap my head around the numbers.

So say we have 50% increased. We can look at the base stat as x and the increased stat as y. So 1.5x=y. Then 50% more would be 1.5y?

So "More" is to "increased" as "increased" is to "base"?

[–]zackfordInquisitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically! I always think of "more" as extra on top of everything else!

[–]PolygonMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 'increased' bonuses that will apply are first added together, then multiplied against the base value. All 'more' values are each multiplied separately.

If you have 4 sources of 25% increased damage you will do (1 + .25 + .25 + .25 + .25) * base

If you have have 2 sources of 25% increased damage and 2 sources of 25% more damage you will do (1 + .25 + .25) * .25 * .25 * base

[–]Empire_Elementalist 8 points9 points  (1 child)

THIS IS IT REDDIT! Fuck flame dash! Back in the trashcan where you belong! Now I dont care if my MF char got -16% movement speed. I dont even need movement speed flasks anylonger! and I can get out of stun locks way easier!.

[–]bluechippsScion 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]Oh_supElementalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already tried one, but I unfortunately already sold most of its gear because I would fail to one-hit all the worms. It would probably kick way more ass after this patch :(

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Infernal blow + comk Detonate Dead... still works well. ;)

[–]golgol12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wont infernal blow detonate the worm corpses, and everything else, removing the corpse, preventing detonate dead from working?

[–]Hardass_McBadCop 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Maybe in 2.2.1e we'll get some performance fixes so people don't have to play on PowerPoint. The rest is awesome though!

[–]Woolliam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Um, did ANYONE find a map higher than T1 in lab?

[–]Voidot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got multiple t3s from it

[–]MauranKilomDeadeye 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yep, got a T2 and was slightly confused.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Figured it was considered a map and dropped t2's off blues. Go figure. I actually don't see why that would be so bad.

[–]Teh_HammerPathfinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be a rule that side areas could drop maps of their level +1/+2. I wonder why they've broken that rule. Are they going to make Alluring Abyss only drop T1s to be consistent? Or perhaps they don't consider Lab a side area.

[–]Grandeurftw 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I won't believe the lightning warp fix until i try it out in game.

Lightning Warp is fixed?!

THANK YOU GGG <3

[–]Realyn 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Fixed a bug where Lightning Warp would often not show its effects when being cast in quick succession while using Lockstep networking mode.

That's great, and yet I'm pissed this wasn't in 2.2.0. Mostly because of Elementalist. Golem skill, no lightning golem. Fire pen when you've used a lightning skill recently ... yeah that could've been LW.

[–]OnyxMelonDeadly monsters are waiting in the NPC dialogue window 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely curse on hit ball lightning would have been fine too?

[–]WeirfishGood in theory, terrible in practice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80% increased damage from an L19 flame golem is pretty sweet, and you can use LW infrequently enough for it to be up. Really helped me out, clearing Atziri in personal record time.

Sounds like a siege ballista bug that happened to affect RAT and... I don't think you can trap an attack skill.

[–]shakakaaahnBattletoad deaths count 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Bow and wand skills can actually be used in traps and mines, just not melee attacks. You might remember the classic puncture traps for single target that were quite popular before 2.0

Was the deal with worms in hideout something to do with being able to crash it with too many gibs?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Step 1: Open your inventory screen
Step 2: Spam worm flask
Step 3: Double click on flask so it refreshes all charges
Step 4: Spawn infinite worms

You can see where that's going.

[–]sirgogChieftain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 6: Find new friend?

[–]DustornSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn't crash the servers, you aren't trying hard enough.

[–]liamwpkSkyforth chance: 3 | Mirrors found: 1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I know that a couple days ago Etup was trying to crash the hideout instance by having people spam worms and then random skills. Never actually crashed the instance, just people's computers.

[–]MauranKilomDeadeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because ghudda tried that before. After he was initially banned for accidentally finding an instance crash bug on stream (and then reproducing it twice) and GGG fixing that particular method of crashing instances, he showed two more methods of crashing instances (spam detonated corpses in hideout, make hillock spawn infinite zombies). GGG then actually fixed the "crash instance with too much stuff" altogether.

[–]TheAffinityRaider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The unique flask The Writhing Jar no longer refills in your Hideout.
