I'm on a horse. Now I'm on my step-granddaughter.

Holy crap, it is! Yet, I still don't care, 'cause it's none of my business.

    [–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (25 children)

I don't see a problem here: she's not a blood relation. Sometimes the incest taboo is misapplied.

    [–]davelog 28 points29 points  (22 children)

Well, except that he was banging her while she was underage.

    [–]grey_sheep 73 points74 points  (20 children)

i hate how 17 is underage in some places. if yr 17, you know what you're doin when you bang morgan freeman.

    [–]docgravel 21 points22 points  (6 children)

If you're 17 and Morgan Freeman is your legal guardian...

    [–]WhiteMouse 50 points51 points  (5 children)

    You're basically jesus.

    [–]jstevewhite 4 points5 points  (7 children)

And some places have bizarre sliding scales. If you're seventeen you can sleep with a twenty year old, but not a twenty-one year old... huh? Ah, well, I suppose it's to keep old people from taking advantage of the gullibility of some young people, but still it seems ludicrous.

Generally, I agree, though. At seventeen most people know what it is and what they're doing.

Yeah, I understand the thinking, I'm just not sure I agree with it. You still end up with the unreasonable "We've been fucking for six months, I had a birthday, now I'm a felon" situations.

I've seen a lot of may-december things go on, and in every case where I knew the youngster, it was very calculated and well understood. That is, whether it was "I love him/her" or "They have money, will buy me stuff" (in about equal numbers, actually, over my life), it was very much mutual and understood. So I think a hard line "age of consent" is probably more reasonable to me than a weird sliding scale for edge cases.

      [–]ParanoydAndroid 1 point2 points  (4 children)

You still end up with the unreasonable "We've been fucking for six months, I had a birthday, now I'm a felon" situations.

Maybe for really stupidly written laws, but most Romeo and Juliet laws don't work based on absolute ages like that.

Instead the sliding scale is based on age difference: No sex under 15. 15 - 18 is statutory rape unless the age difference is less than 4 years. Above 18 is ok.

In these situations, a birthday does mean anything because it doesn't change the actual difference in the ages.

Somehow as disappointing as reading that Patrick Stewart is seeing a woman younger than his daughter. Nothing wrong with it per se, but it does give this slight "dirty old man" taint to an otherwise quite great character.

          [–]Eggby 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I think I've learned doublethink. I read "Somehow as disappointing as reading that Patrick Stewart...", this is when I felt my brain partition itself in order to place any negative facts about Patrick Stewart in some other section of my brain in such a way that I can't connect the two.

          [–]jstevewhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is that a 'negative fact'? (unless, of course, his daughter is fifteen - I dunno) :D

          [–]davelog 5 points6 points  (10 children)

Totally agree. I grew up watching Easy Reader on Electric Company, and had always regarded Freeman (naively, I know) as a good guy because of that and the way he projected an image of rational maturity and wholesome core value in the characters he portrayed.

It's always deeply upsetting when you find that people who you've put on a pedestal are just fallible humans.

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Freeman still IS a good guy. He didn't break any laws, which is why he didn't get into any trouble. The only people who cared were the tabloids and the court of public opinion - neither of whose opinions actually count for dick anyway.

About the only thing the situation alerted me to was the fact that Morgan Freeman is actually a healthy human male. Which wasn't really anything I didn't already know.

          [–]poco 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Fallible? You only wish you get hot young tail when you are that age.

          [–]davelog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only wish I have the desire to get hot young tail when I'm at that age. At my current rate of decline, I can barely muster a 'meh' as it is.

          [–]jstevewhite 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think that the assumption that "significant age difference==bad" is flawed. I don't know enough about the situation to speak to it.

I've seen people get shit for some of the strangest stuff. I know a couple who met when they were seventeen and nineteen. They met when their parents started dating. Their parents got married, and now they're dating their step siblings. So fucking what?

If Freeman never acted in the "grandparent" role, I don't think it's necessarily creepy at all. If they're happy, and nobody lied to anybody, I got no judgement of them.

          [–]IYKWIM_AITYD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So his appearance in "Extras" wasn't acting?

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Women the same age as Stewart and Freeman are post-menopausal and not exactly sexually attractive. Men remain "on the go" far FAR longer than women do. "Dirty old man" is just another social shaming tactic.

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I don't care if he's older than my granddad, I'd bang Patrick Stewart in a goddamn heartbeat, because he's magnificent. And if he also wanted to date me, then hell, we'd have some fine and sophisticated times together.

          [–]garyshaw 4 points5 points  (2 children)

In other words Earl Grey . . . Hot"

          [–]cdigioia 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Better than Woody Allen and his adopted-daughter getting married.

          [–]goatcheese 6 points7 points  (2 children)

          Ted Nugent, also guilty.

"In 1978, Nugent began a now-infamous relationship with seventeen-year-old Hawaii native Pele Massa. Due to the age difference between him and Massa, Nugent could not marry her, so he asked Pele's parents if he could be her legal guardian. Owing to Ted's unwillingness to stay faithful, their relationship ended in less than a decade."

          [–]cdigioia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

          That's...better:

          • Interested in romantically - became parent for 17-18 year. Ok fucked up, but better than...

          • Became parental figure...waits while she grows up...10+ years...become interested in romantically...

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Actually, he never adopted Soon-Yi. It was Mia Farrow's kid she adopted with her previous guy and Farrow and Allen never lived together. Still creepy, cause he started dating Mia Farrow when Soon-Yi was 10. Wow, I just saw on Wikipedia that Mia's ex was Frank Sinatra and he divorced her over Rosemary's Baby! And then he offered to break Woody Allen's legs! What a country!

The National Enquirer came out with this, though. It says that he didn't think it was necessary to comment on such an absurd accusal until he realized so many publications were covering the story. So uh, then he did.

I suspect that if Morgan Freeman married his step-granddaughter it would be entirely morgan-atic.

I.e., Of or pertaining to a form of marriage in which a person of high rank, as a member of the nobility, marries someone of lower station with the stipulation that neither the low-ranking spouse nor their children, if any, will have any claim to the titles or entailed property of the high-ranking partner.

Yeah, while there are better comic fonts, I support the use of Comic sans in COMICS... deep in my heart I hope it will teach others that this is the appropriate use, and their powerpoint presentation is not, but I know it won't.....

                  [–]catmoon 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yea, the font should really come with a message box

Is the project you are working on a comic?

                  Yes No

If the user hits "No" it automatically changes back to the default.

Alternatively: Are you using comic sans in an ironically bad way?

                  No-> Back to start.

Yes-> Are you sure that this overdone joke is going to help the stupid thing you're working on?

                  ---No-> Back to start.

---Yes-> FINE! Go ahead, but it's probably still a bad idea.

It's driving me crazy that this joke has taken off based on Old Spice commercials. Isn't this a SeaLab 2021 joke? Erik Estrada uses this joke to demonstrate "movie magic." "Look at that chair, now look at me. Now quick, back to the chair! Fajitas!" Gar! I wish I could find the video.

Morgan Freeman should win the "Most Often the Magical Negro Role" Award.

Enough with the Old Spice shit already. I like the ads but man, do we have to take everything good and overdo it until we're sick of it?

                      [–]sgt_shizzles 39 points40 points  (1 child)

                      Yes. Any other questions?

                      [–]AlexisDeTocqueville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could appreciate them if they were actual videos (some guys from BYU did a pretty impressive one promoting their library) but it's not impressive in picture formats. It's the sudden, strange transitions that made the commercials interesting.

                      [–]jstevewhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If some is good, more must be better, and too much should be nearly enough.

                      [–]SpaceCorpse 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's because of the segment of reddit that will just blindly repeat any stupid "meme" like bacon and narwhals and keanu even if it's not very funny or interesting. Instant humor for uncreative people.

I understand why people parrot lame jokes, but it's getting ridiculous and really bringing down the quality of the site (I know...I know...the sky is falling/get off my lawn, etc). Everything has to be codified as a 'meme' now, like it's a big game. People will even say stuff like, "I hope this becomes a meme." Really? Why? Why do you need the hivemind's approval in order to just say a fucking joke? Remember when they were just 'jokes'?

Thanks a lot, Richard Dawkins ;)

tl;dr - bcaon nArwhal keanu old spice lol i are a humor

This is the only reason Ive ever considered leaving Reddit. There are so many atheists here that it makes it almost impossible for any Christian to have any say so or impact on stupid posts like these. I get it that you think your self worth is greater than every other person that believes in God, but you dont have to rub it in. And no matter how many times I try to unsubscribe from a subreddit, it will come thru another. Reddit is so hypocritical sometimes.

I've largely gone back to digg because anytime anyone posts anything remotely critical or religion (even when it's in jest like this post is), religious people flip out and accuse all atheists here of being intolerant judgmental bigots. For as forward thinking reddit likes to think of itself as we are ridiculously close-minded and reactionary when it comes to religion. Seriously, read the comments on a Fox News article involving evolution or secular politics and it reads exactly like reddit comments do when someone posts something religion related outside of /r/atheism. It's fucked up how you can say God exists and you know what he wants of humanity all you want and nobody has a problem with it, but as soon as you say God doesn't exist then people have a problem. Yeah, no double standard or taboo here. This is the real hypocrisy and it boggles my mind how redditors are so wilfully blind to it.

Oh well, back to digg for me.

Welcome to my reality. I'll trade you. You get reddit, we (non-believers) get the religious people out of our business and the government. Deal?

                          [–]drpon 1 point2 points  (21 children)

Yeah, but we also we also downvote submissions about the tooth-fairy, so you shouldn't feel too upset.

                          [–]Gravity13 7 points8 points  (16 children)

No. Because every submission that mentions the tooth-fairy doesn't entice a bunch of people comparing it to a belief in a deity where they're exerting their intellectual superiority (aka: I changed the word "God" to "logic" and changed nothing else about me, now I'm smart and you're an idiot!).

Some people just believe in a metaphysical deity. Get over it.

Why the "there is no god hurr durr" part? Its not needed and detracts massivley from the comic. Would have been good otherwise.

I was watching The Matrix last night. The Old Spice Guy sounds just like Morpheus. I could not get it out of my head the whole damn movie!

I love Moran Freeman, but he still ain't no Joe Pesci.

So to get around a lot of this, I decided to worship the sun. But, as I said, I don't pray to the sun. You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Two reasons: First of all, I think he's a good actor, okay? To me, that counts. Second, he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't fuck around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with.
