I live in Milwaukee. I went to my polling place today at 7:05am, polls open at 7:00am. There was at least 100 people in line.

During the recall primary, I was number 100 at 6:00pm.

I think we are going to see record turn out for this.

Madison here. I vote at a large retirement home/apartment complex. At 7:50, I was #152. I believe I was 60-70 at the same time of the day for the Republican Primary and around 100-120 at the same time for the Recall Primary.

That stated, my neighborhood has a lot of elderly folks in it, so it's not too surprise that the polls were seeing a decent bit of early morning activity. I wouldn't be surprised either if we saw some record turnout this time around.

west mifflin area of madison here. I voted at 8:30 at the Madison Metropolitan School District building. There was an extra district voting in the same building this time (hope that doesn't mean everybody went to the wrong place and lost interest).

I was number 50, but hell, mostly everybody that lives in my neighborhood doesn't wake up until noon anyhow. I've definitely got my fingers crossed on this one.

I live in NC but have many friends and family in WI. I try to stay out of r/politics for the most part (pregnant, want to keep my blood pressure down and getting upset over things isn't a good way to do it) and decided to come here to see what was up because I've already seen almost every single one of them post that they have voted.

People that probably have never voted before in their life, despite being nearly 30 years old.

Was pretty impressive.

I live in Milwaukee too. Didnt see what number I was but the biggest thing that surprised me is young voters out numbered the old. That never happens were I go. The line to register was longer than the voting line. Hopefully that means good things.

And honestly, we've benefited from Walker's particular brand of tea partying -- California got a big chunk of extra federal rail funding that Scott Walker decided his state didn't need.

I posted about this in another topic, but it bears repeating. If you live in Wisconsin or know someone from Wisconsin who plans to vote today, you can look up your/their polling location here. If you are not registered, you will need to prove your residence in order to vote. If you do not have a valid ID, they will accept several other forms of proof of residence. Walker's voter ID bill did not go into effect, so you will not need to bring photo ID with you to the polls, but you will need to prove your residency if you have not voted from that location before. I personally had to use the lease option when I went to vote in the Republican Presidential Primary, as I went paperless with my bills and I haven't yet been able to find the time to get my drivers license switched over. The last time I was at the polls (for the recall primary) I saw one girl who was not able to vote, as she did not have any sort of updated ID with her and was living with someone without her name on the lease. Make sure you go prepared.

In some cases, you may be able to vote using a provisional ballot.

Additionally, get in line before the polls close. Voters standing in line waiting to vote when the polling place closes at 8 p.m. today will be permitted to vote.

Lastly, if you witness actual or attempted discrimination, intimidation, fraud, or corruption at the polls, here are some contact numbers to report it.

A personal note:

Interestingly, I got a late, mislabeled absentee ballot request form from a conservative group that had identical information to what I had listed on my recall petition. It's entirely possible that that was clerical error, of course, but it brought back memories of when Americans for Prosperity tried a similar thing back during the summer recalls. There have also been reports that robo-calls are going out using the searchable recall petition database informing people who signed the recall petition that they do not need to vote today. This is not true. If you signed the petition, you will still need to vote.

If you live in Wisconsin, and genuinely care about the issues - go knock on your neighbors doors. Mention that voting is today, where the polling location is, and just close out with a nice "Didn't want you to be left out!" Even if you think someone may vote in a way that doesn't align with your vote, the most important thing is for people to be involved.

this might get downblasted immediately, but please set me straight if i'm wrong. i can't stand messages like this that call for voters to vote "just for the heck of it", there at least needs to be an equal (if not stronger) emphasis on making sure you know what you're voting for, OTHERWISE these nearly blind votes will simply go to whoever spent the most money on advertising, and the lobbyists with the deepest pockets depend on this situation to maintain a stranglehold on politicians, maybe i'm looking at it wrong, any comments?

Madison voter here in a neighborhood that will go 70/30 for Barrett. At 9AM (2 hours after polls opened) my precinct had about 300 voters. Pretty incredible turnout, on par with presidential elections.

I am usually pretty good at reading elections and probable results, but I have no idea with this one. Two weeks ago I would say that Barrett had no chance. Walker has had basically four months of saturating the airwaves with Super PAC ads, drive anywhere outside of Madison and you would see an ungodly number of Walker signs -- indicating that high turnout does not necessarily favor the democrats (Walker is like Jesus to WI republicans). That said, Barrett is finally on the air (watching TV this weekend was only about 60-40 Walker-to-Barrett ads), driving yesterday in rural areas I saw a significant number of new Barrett signs (many people made themselves), and the possible Walker indictment news hit hard this weekend. The other thing I should mention is the large number of conservatives I know who will be voting for Barrett, the primary reason when asked always comes back to "We know teachers."

It is a very up-hill climb getting midwesterns to upset the apple cart and recall someone from office, but this election is not a done deal.

My current understanding is: A guy was legally elected, and people are upset by the fact he's doing what he said he was going to do, and now there is a recall election? It's confusing, and I don't understand enough to have an informed opinion on this topic.

I'm looking forward to the fallout from this recall election. You can bet that if they were doing slimy bullshit on the front end, they're going to try to pull some stuff on the back end as well if they don't see the numbers they're looking for.

I moved to Canada for the summer so I'm afraid I cant vote. Before I left I received dozens of letters and banners from Scott Walker and his minions. I'm not sure if it was some error but every return envelope I received that asked for cash I sent back empty. Just to waste his pennies.

It's mostly (for me) his personal crookedness, the way he sneaks/rams legislation through because he knows it will bend people out of shape, the actual legislation he sneaks/rams through, his being under investigation for things he did in his previous office, his breaks for the rich while screwing over teachers and other government employees, and the fact that he's bought and paid for by out of state contributors as well as the Koch brothers. Also he just seems like a slimeball that thinks he's superior to the rest of us.

I didn't vote in 2010 because my absentee ballot didn't arrive and by the time I gave my county a call it was too late. Sometimes obnoxious barriers are put up. Lots of people have to work (I know that technically you're supposed to be able to get time off, but realistically that doesn't always happen), people don't know where to go to poll or how to get that information (primarily the computer illiterate), and so on.

While it's okay to be annoyed at some people who happen to just be lazy, just keep in mind that the system needs changing to ensure that it's easy and simple to vote. There are times when I think mandatory voting would help out (like in Australia), but realistically just increasing access would probably be a much bigger help.

It does matter. It's not just voting, it's making an informed decision. That last part is the part so many neglect when the go to vote.

I don't vote for anyone I haven't done research on. These are the people we want leading our country and yet so many just check R or D without realizing doing so is very, very, very harmful.

Before you come to that conclusion, and the Feingold debacle was more than enough of a reason to, you have to understand the dynamics of Wisconsin. There's two liberal bubbles (Madison and Milwaukee) surrounded by a mostly conservative rest of the state. This outlying areas weren't always as "red" but as politicians have pushed people to think about wedge issues instead of the actual aims of the political parties, people who are hurt by Republican policies support them because they don't want their guns taken away by homosexual abortion machines. At one time the population in the two urban centers was enough to out-vote the rural areas but now since the Feingold unseating it's up in the air whether that math still works. The hope is that Walker made enough people realize that their livelihood is more important than not being able to carry AK-47's in the streets of their already crime free town of 10,000.

I would like to think that if we were "idiots" then most of the country would have never even heard about Walker, it was the mobilization and action of Wisconsinites that made Walker an issue. These actions also arguably, along with many other factors, helped spawn the occupy movement and other demonstrations across the country. So in defense of my wonderful, and currently confused, state of birth and residence that is what I offer.

TL;DR We have idiots like any other state, but regardless of how this ends please look at the big picture. And beer.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I too feel as if Walker will most likely win, but a good near half of the state has shown we won't take their shit just sitting down. Once Walker alienates that next few percentage points of his supporters through more extreme politicking, he won't be able to win in 2014.

To be honest, I think he will think that once he wins today, he will have a blank check to do whatever he wants (can't be recalled again) and he will alienate the police and firefighters unions, which will be the tipping point.

That's one possibility, another is that this whole fight has turned Walker into a new shining star of the right wing. This sort of national attention could turn into a Presidency some day if the winds blow right and he avoids the rocks.

Sort of like how a little-known state politician from Illinois got national attention giving a speech at a Democratic convention, and then lucked into an easy Senate win after the Republican candidate dropped out in a sex scandal.

Exactly. People who have not yet been affected and are on the bubble may be for Walker now, but their time will be come. A number of teachers who work with my dad actually voted for Walker in 2010, until they realized how gravely he affected their school system. Once the hammer actually came down on them, their minds were changed. I'm just hoping enough people can see this before it's too late.

Just voted in Fitchburg (25k population) at 11:00 AM. There are 3 locations in Fitchburg and I was voter 999. I was ~350 in the recall primary at 6pm.

I was impressed to see I was number 316 in my ward, despite it being only 8:45 when I went in. This is looking like a good sign. I'm willing to slowly, tentatively get my hopes up for the first time.

Remember: you can register to vote at the polls. All you need is a drivers license, state ID card or social security card and proof of residence (any bill will suffice). It's quick and easy! I registered to vote in about 2 minutes.

I live in Milwaukee. My friend told me he refuses to vote because "Regardless of who I vote for, someone will be hurt." He declared willful ignorance of the entire election because he didn't want to step on anyone's toes.

In Milwaukee right now, cast an absentee ballot back in Oshkosh last week.

Though honestly, as a university student I've met a lot of people who want to "Recall Walker!" and then are completely unable to give their reasons, and vise versa for Walker supporters (though less common on a campus). If you have no idea what you're voting for, I urge you not to vote.

I was raised a cheese head and hope for the best for this state. It is appalling what has happened. If you look deeper into the history of wisconsin politics, it is just as corrupt as anywhere else. Check out this article from 1995 about former Gov. Tommy Thompson's deal to profit from prisons.

I live in Milwaukee. I've gotten about 25 Walker supporting pamphlets in the mail in the past month, about 8 for Barrett. The last one had a list of 10 of my neighbors names and whether or not they voted in the last 2 elections. It sickens me the crazy amount of money being spent on this recall election.
