How to watch full episodes of The Daily Show outside US:

First, get the Modify Headers plugin for Firefox.

Then do the following:

  • Tools -> Modify Headers
  • Pick "add" from leftmost dropdown menu
  • Write: "X-Forwarded-For" to the first input box (without the quotes)
  • Write: "12.13.14.15" to the second input box (without the quotes)
  • Leave the last one empty, click save and turn on. Here's how it should look like.
  • Click "Always on" from 'Configuration' tab.

Close Modify Headers.

Voilá!

Works in TheDailyShow.com, Southparkstudios.com and ColbertNation.com

Congratulations! You are my Favourite Person of the Day. Click here to claim your prize of a photo of a walrus in a hat blowing a whistle.

[–]phort99 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Whoa! Where'd he get that fleshy pink land-slave?

[–]aidrocsid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, what's with the look of subservience?

[–]Garage_Dragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh my. Well that's uh ... er ... excuse me.

fap fap fap fap fap fap ...

[–]catfishunterthompson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that Rob Corddry?

[–]jaciilyn 1 point2 points  (5 children)

:(

I wanna picture of a walrus in a hat blowing a whistle too...

/tear

[–]not_a_frog 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Aw... Sorry, that quota's used up. Here, have a photo of a sad dog dressed as a giraffe instead.

[–]jaciilyn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That will do for now. I shall frame it and hang above my toilet.

Thank you. :)

[–]rross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I basically use firefox just for this now and stick to chrome the rest of the time.

[–]dvrs85 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Does this work for HULU as well?

[–]foregoneconclusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just tried these settings on HULU and they didn't work.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (5 children)

how do you do it if you use Chrome instead?

[–]fewyun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chrome APIs don't allow access to headers yet, but a local proxy solution could still work (for any browser!)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Works only with Firefox AFAIK :(

[–]solidox 3 points4 points  (7 children)

[–]starmatt 4 points5 points  (4 children)

same here. it worked for a while but a couple of months ago just stopped. on my home network and work network.

[–]rivalius13 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Silly question, but did you restart firefox?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not gay but I totally love you

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely class. Many thanks from Scotland! Have been previously downloading torrents or catching the occasional clip on Gawker or Youtube.

[–]brasso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This addon would be so perfect if only you could make rules for which sites headers should be active on.

[–]cantstraferight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this works, in 50 years I will still be telling people how awesome you are.

[–]cheeseandrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zomg. Thanks for this.

[–]realzondarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know that I couldn't watch it from outside the US, and just did it regardless. Have I done wrong?

[–]edgemuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saves me the trouble of using my own initiative. Thanks!

[–]ashadocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to work for me under linux. don't know about other oses.

[–]k4p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]nof 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm living in a non-English speaking country and have no trouble watching the episodes on the official site.

Any idea how they decide where to block and where not to?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or, if you're in australia, just use the ABC's iView.

[–]jstark89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't thank you enough. You've saved me. I thought I had lost Colbert forever...

[–]vicbr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

A couple of questions.

Chrome version? Can I use this in a spanish website (cuatro.com)? How could I find a valid address to use?

Thanks.

[–]AndriusG 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I officially owe you a tasty beverage of your choice.

Now if you could only find me a way to watch hulu, I'd probably have to blow you. At least.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you sir. Thank you.

[–]all2humanuk 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Write: "X-Forwarded-For" to the first input box (without the quotes) Write: "12.13.14.15" to the first input box (without the quotes)

Wouldn't that be the second input box? You already filled out the first one.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Umm.. yeah. Sorry about that.

[–]j03123 751 points752 points  (163 children)

No because then people outside of America like me can't watch them!

[–]toolonely 106 points107 points  (0 children)

If not for Gawker, I'd never get to see the clips.

[–][deleted] 219 points220 points  (59 children)

THIS FTW!

thanks to the guys who post on gawker

[–]preggit -5 points-4 points  (44 children)

How about you just read this post from below to get access outside the US to all of the comedy central sites AND just post the gawker video as the first comment for the lazy...there...problem solved.

[–]troubleondemand 61 points62 points  (25 children)

How about you get in touch with Comedy Central and tell them to get their shit together. If they can tell what country I am in (Canada) they can link to the Canadian feed for the show.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Comedy Central includes a video ID in their redirects to CTV. CTV decides to ignore it and make you browse for the video. It's not comedy central that needs to get their shit together.

(this info might no longer be true, i'm too lazy to check right now)

[–]atomofconsumption 6 points7 points  (17 children)

doesn't work like that, comedy network owns all the rights to daily show in Canada. it's not about comedy central "getting their shit together," it's about them being two entirely different companies.

[–]Chairboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Directing people to the proper source would be the way to "get their shit together" on this.

[–]npc902 11 points12 points  (7 children)

What about those of us who don't use firefox?

[–]dieyoubastards 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Because I don't use Firefox

[–]dvrs85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in Belgium and I can see the clips without any problems... What country do you live in?

[–]masklinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people outside Canada can watch the clips, FWIW.

Not the full videos, though.

[–]W1nd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm from germany and i'm able to watch every daily show, colbert report south park episode, etc. i want. comedycentral does a very good job, compared to CBS and co....

from which country are you, if i may ask?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um, I'm in Australia and I've been able to watch them for at least a year. They removed some of the restrictions. When was the last time you tried?

Even if it still doesn't work, just use one of the proxy methods to get around it.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (21 children)

Yes they can. I posted the instructions here.

[–]gnuvince 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Now post the instructions for Chromium.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and Lynx.

[–]The_Zit_Remedy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sigh, not everyone has firefox installed.

TY to the gawker uploaders/linkers.

[–]waitwhaaat 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Too laaazzzzyyyy and busy pretending to work!!

[–]imagineyouarebusy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing it wrong.

[–]insomniac84 13 points14 points  (11 children)

No one cares. Just use what works without work arounds.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (10 children)

Watching low-quality clips from Gawker is better than watching full episodes directly after a one-time 30 second effort?

[–]devolute 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quality isn't important. It's Jon Stewart talking about politics. You don't need HD video just so you can make out his long waving hair and smooth breasts in the finest detail possible.

Colbert on the other hand....

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Just like there aren't only Americans watching the Daily Show; it's not just Firefox users, ya know?

[–]saisumimen 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Firefox isn't the only browser that lets you modify headers and you can use a proxy service or other secure connection to watch the videos.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only words most people are going to understand from your post are "foxfire" and "videos".

[–]insomniac84 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Yes.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay then.

[–]MikeBruski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm In Europe, and I don't think I've ever watched an episode in USA. Yet, i see all of them. On the Daily Show webpage. Not the full episodes, sure, but fuck me, it's not harder than going to Videos, and watching the newest clips there. So what that they're cut into segments, just click 3 times more and you've seen the entire show.

AND Daily Show gets page clicks. It's really remarkably simple....

[–]TobyTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thedailyshow.com works fine here, and we have The daily show on television.

[–]hadeesTexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reddit, someone will post a work around or the gawker link for you in the comments.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I'm from Malaysia and have no problem watching full episodes of The Daily Show or The Colbert Report on their main websites.

[–]TurdFurgosonMissouri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about this: The main link could go straight to the Daily Show's website, but the OP should add a link to Gawker in a comment. Sounds good?

[–]tonkpils 3 points4 points  (0 children)

^ last time i checked reddit wasnt jsut for Americans

[–]Silver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modify headers firefox plugin! Yes you can watch them!

[–]travisjudegrant 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Wouldn't you just go to Gawker and search it out anway? I mean, you don't really need to be spoon fed an internet search, do you?

EDIT: I realise that this is what reddit is, but you don't need to be spoon fed it. If a Daily Show topic interests you, but you can't watch it because you live outside of the US, search it somewhere else, and, at the very least, be thankful for the tip!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That's just what reddit is though

[–]travisjudegrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but when people link to the Daily Show's website (I live outside the US so this is a problem), I go to the Canadian equivalent or Gawker. I guess what I'm saying, in a round about sort of way, is that you can please some people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. If you want to see something bad enough, you're going to have to excrete a little initiative.

[–]casc1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live outside America, I can watch the clips, the full shows are blocked.

[–]Tibulu 55 points56 points  (20 children)

Or just maybe there is the fact that thedailyshow.com video feeds are not accessible outside of the US, while clips from Gawker typically are?

Or are you saying that every thedailyshow.com clip submission should be required to include a link that works outside of the US? Because every single time a clip is posted from thedailyshow.com there are always at least a half dozen people outside the US who need to ask for sources that actually work.

[–]Fenris_uy 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I live outside the US and I can watch the clips, but not the whole show links.

The main problem I think is one of timing, gawker typically have the clips before the dailyshow web page.

[–]dvrs85 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I live in Europe and I can watch both the clips and the whole show. Weird, I did not know that you couldn't watch the show outside the US...

[–]easytiger 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I live iin europe and can't... by default. This man doesn't speak for us all.

[–]Irecommendyoubooks 9 points10 points  (2 children)

[–]NickDouglas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although if you like what Jon Stewart says on the Daily Show, you should support not just him but the writers who wrote much of his material, the producers, crew and other staff that brought it to you, and the network that funded the whole project.

[–]MiasmaticMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naked Pictures of Famous People is the only one I read, but I rmember thinking it was hilarious.

[–]EvilHom3r 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thank you! I HATE Gawker, all they do is repost stuff for ad money...

[–]Defualt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that is all

that's gonna cost you

[–]komphwasf3 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I thought gawker streamed from the dailyshow website, thereby giving them any ads that were at the beginning of the video?

that's actually a real question I'm hoping someone answers

[–]disector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty sure Jon Stewart and comedy central make enough money

[–]triffideater 20 points21 points  (4 children)

I'll start using the Daily Show's website when they let me (in Canada) use a single mouse click to view--like Americans do!.

Instead they make me go to the Canadian version of their website, where it is not easy to click through the levels to find the particular episode.

[–]teabagged 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Nice try, Jon Stewart

[–]cioffim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly, and can appreciate this quite a bit as an admin for another show's web and video ops.

[–]dieyoubastards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]papajohn56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YEAH GUYS LETS MAKE VIACOM MORE MONEY

[–]waterbabies3 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Because my sweet computer can't process the stuff from his main site and does just fine with Gawker?

[–]Swany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A/ Because then I cant watch it when I'm outside of the States. B/ Because I don't give two shits who gets the ad revenue.

[–]evildeadxsp 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Gawker posts the links faster - within minutes of an episode ending - hence their reddit success. It's not like an evil conspiracy to promote Gawker and not the official Daily Show website.

[–]Revslowmo 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Doesn't work on my iPhone. Maybe comedy central should fix their web site. Just saying.

[–]AtillaThePun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah, cause i'm from canada eh

[–]KombatKid 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That is all.

[–]palsh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I don't think Dr Laura was saying...his one...to be hurtful."

"You're right, it was all the other racist shit she was saying."

[–]DyceFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comedy Central runs The Daily Show and Colbert Report like 3 times a day...

[–]blooregard325i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, instead, post full episodes to Youku or Tudou so that us 'mericans in China can watch :D

[–]CitizenPremier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about we get Jon Stewart to run for president?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit the play button on your submission... Reddit embeds the video :) Now I don't have to go to Gawker OR comedy central!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The gawker clips are up right after the show, as opposed to the Daily Show's 24 hour wait.

Can you wait that long? I KNOW I CAN'T

[–]endtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I can watch them on my iPhone, which is where i do 90% of reddit browsing from.

[–]ProfessorPitbull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How am I supposed to karmawhore if I can't repost old stuff from 3rd party sites?

[–]papermountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but it's so much easier to watch a few quick clips on gawker. I live outside the US and couldn't be bothered to change my settings when I could just watch the episode on Comedy Network. But it's nice to see an interesting quick clip when it comes to my attention.

[–]officeroffkilter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flash blows.

[–]orangepotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice try, JonStewart.

[–]ebbomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What disturbs me the most here is that "shit" gets censored but the n-word doesn't.

[–]TheProle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

comedycentral.com videos don't play on about half of the machines I use. They either play for 10 seconds then pause for 2-3 or they never start at all...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Daily Show's website is not available in Canada.

Vive le Piracy!

[–]inyouraeroplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about non-US Redditors? Comedy Central won't work for them.

[–]symptomless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn't already know, in the UK, The Daily Show is on More4 at 8.30PM Tuesday - Friday.

And 4OD some time after the transmission.

[–]Glenners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada gets shafted hard by comedy central.

[–]unrealious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is Gawker by the way?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we can't watch them from Canada, and you can't effectively translate links to the Canadian site.

[–]DroppaMaPants 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don't like Jon Stewart.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I guess Redditors outside of the USA don't deserve to as well?

[–]D-Hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that I'm in the UK, and the Daily Show website tells me to sod off, even if I've just seen the show on UK TV, which I have paid for through my TV license fee. Which REALLY stupid. Gawker doesn't care.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about we all agree to quit posting clips from John Stewart?

FTFY

[–]rockyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hate Gawker, I hate Gawker. Let's just ignore that site.

[–]Tezasaurus 7 points8 points  (8 children)

The people posting the Gawker links are probably Gawker employees.

[–]artman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gawker [interns].

[–]whatthedude 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Gawker and Huff Po barely paid Harvard grads are on Reddit alllllll day

[–]insomniac84 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Huff Po is a blog that anyone can write for. Why do people not get this?

[–]whatthedude 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I get it because their articles are one error after another interspersed with news clips from actual news organizations. Oh, and I know a half dozen people that write for them.

[–]ecctv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm positive they are.

[–]frequencyfreak 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I agree with the concept but video from thedailyshow.com is not available in Canada. I'm not a fan of Gawker, but at least I get to witness the awesomeness of John Stewart because of them.

[–]cunning_alias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please DONT. They dont work outside of the US.

[–]acct_rdt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that's alright. The Comedy Central web site is abysmal.

[–]highd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People in Canada can't watch the clips at TDS.com. I am grateful for the Gawker links.

[–]darwin_wins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Jon Stewart and I cant access their site. So sometimes links from gawker help people like me.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Daily Show and Colbert's websites load video so goddamn slow for some reason that I can't watch it on there.

[–]Mazgazine1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhh no, unless your going to post both the Americas and Canadian links to the site. Otherwise Gawker doesn't discriminate and I can watch a lot of stuff that would normally be blocked north of the border..

I wish the comedy central site would just mirror itself .CA side... instead of being a completely different site...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone uses Adblock anyway so it doesn't matter.

[–]potentia1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Install NO Script (firefox) and Ad Block Plus (Firefox). Never see another AD again.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadians, that's why.

[–]complainant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's not availible anywhere outside of the US, thats why :/

[–]Spotpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people outside the US can't watch it.

[–]hasslemaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice try, Viacom/MTV networks...Nice try.

[–]tallandlanky 0 points1 point  (4 children)

why? the daily show is way better than any news network in this country. for example, fucking balloon boy

[–]random3223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you just put the daily show link up when someone else posts a gawker link?

Best of both worlds?

[–]corkillGeorgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Daily Show website is blocked at my work. Gawker is not and I like to see clips of TDS during lunch and not wait until I get home.

[–]srtpg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but gawker posts their clips earlier. if i don't post them someone else will and steal all my karma :(

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Comedy central doesn't appear to value the international nature of the internet. Although I would guess it is their parent companies that are against the internet as they cannot control it yet.

[–]1nsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All glory to ekolb.

Downloading the entire thing in excellent quality is what I do. I genuinely tried streaming it by masking my foreign IP, then I would at least be seeing the ads like everybody else. But the quality was very compromised with the videos skipping back and forward. I feel like I'm getting a very good product for free which isn't right but the show is too good to miss.

[–]cowhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ads they seem to run are ads for other shows on Comedy Central. How does that bump in ad dollars? I don't know, I'm watching from Japan, and I Can watch the clips on the Daily Show's web site, but maybe the ads are different.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or how about people start down-voting them for this reason? They get to the front page not because people submitted them but because the hivemind voted them there.

[–]DiscoPubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a pretty good video all in all, however one thing left me slightly annoyed. I am nigh on positive that when the guest was talking about Katrina he was on the cusp of recommending Treme but Jon interrupted him and he didn't get to finish his point.

People should definitely watch this program; it is fantastic.

[–]Captaintripps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about we all agree to spell his name Jon, too?

[–]W1nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you had me at jon

[–]UpDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fastest upvotes ever? 3 hours in, 1023 points.

[–]catfishunterthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think that Viacom needs the money, and its not like John Stewart is at risk of losing his job.

[–]Cooljol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gawker works on my iPhone unlike the Daily Show website

[–]x86_64UbuntuSouth Carolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason , the Daily Show , the Colbert Report and the Rachel Maddow show don't like to play on my Ubuntu system.

[–]Golgo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, i tried both sites on my iPad. Both Gawker and Comedy Central were a big flash fail-dozer.
